Well with just under 2 months to go, we thought we should give it another mention. On March 17 to 23 the Puerto Rico PGA Open will take place at the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club. Brian DeCorso of Guelph, Ont. must be happy though as he finished tied for 74th at Q School in Winter Garden, Fla., and that gets him fully exempt status for the Nationwide Tour in 2008. DeCorso shot a 74 in the sixth round Monday to finish at eight-under for the tournament, the exact cutoff for being fully exempt on the Nationwide Tour for next year.The three other Canadians Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont. (T-85th), Lee Curry of Kemptville, Ont. (T-93rd), and Leggatt of Cambridge, Ont. (T-141st), will be conditionally exempt on the Nationwide Tour.

2007-11-14 18:06:00 The PGA Tour has announced that it will begin it's speculated drug testing policy as early as July of 2008, with penalties that range from year long suspensions to outright banning from the tour for 3 time offenders. Tim Finchem, PGA Tour Commissioner, says that players can be tested anywhere, anytime without prior notice and that in addition to suspensions for violating the policy, fines of up to $500,000 could also be assessed, depending on the severity of the offense. Finchem said violations for recreational drugs, such as marijuana or cocaine, could be treated differently from steroids. Reasons for this answer vary, but the popular answer seems to be that golf is based on history and tradition, and you can't just create a tournament in this era, declare it a Major, and gain instant acceptance from players and fans alike. While I do agree with this rationale, it doesn't defend the answer of "no" to the question, Will there be a 5th major? The Open, Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA Championship tournaments were not all created in the same PGA season. Each of these majors had their turn at being the "new major on the block". Was the Masters an instant hit the first year it was played...hard to say, but one thing is for certain, tradition and history is not an instant trait.
