CROS ARE DE FACTO WAY FOR PHARMA OUTSOURCING
2008-05-24 08:55:00
As drug companies lose patent protections, they are laying of thousands of employees across the world. Contract research organizations (CRO) saw possibilities in the trend. The numbers of such firms- who handle research or clinical trial for pharma and biotech companies – have thus substantially increased nationally, especially in Massachusetts. The trend is not new, it has been around for years, it's only recently got momentum.CRO contracts range from under $100 for a simple analysis to millions of dollars over a couple of years for management of a clinical trial, through either a flat or monthly fee, depending on the client.Biotechnology startups are also relying more on CROs to stretch valuable venture capital cashRead Three years ago someone suggested not calling it outsourcing. Dabur Pharma: Is it undervalued?
2008-04-22 00:02:00
By Priya Nigam?Consolidation? has been the name of the game across the world this year. The news so far in 2008 has been dotted by mergers and acquisitions. Despite the US credit crisis and the tight global financial situation, the value of M&A deals this year has surged passed the $1 trillion mark. Closer to home, however, the story has been different. In India, the value of M&A deals has plummeted almost 72% year-on-year. This is notwithstanding Tata Motors Ltd?s offer to take over Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Co.Another interesting deal in the Indian market involves the offer to buy a 73.3% control of oncology major Dabur Pharma. The company has announced that its promoters (the Burman family) and certain other stockholders have agreed to sell their shares to Singapore-based Fresenius Kabi Pte Ltd for Rs76.50 per share. Fresenius Kabi is a 100% subsidiary of the $12 billion German healthcare group Fresenius SE. The deal, which costs the global giant Rs878.2 crore...

EXCISE ON PHARMA; LOAD ON CONSUMER
2008-03-22 08:02:00
In a first-of-its-kind move, the drug price regulator asked pharmaceutical companies to pass on the benefit of the recent excise duty cut to consumers even on medicines that are outside government’s price control. This will reduce prices by 4.58% on brands that account for three fourth of the Rs 33,000-crore domestic pharmaceutical market.   While intervening in the control-free segment of the market for the first time to emphasise that excise cut benefit should be passed on to consumers, the price regulator said emphatically that companies “must” reduce prices. The regulator also said it will use a public interest clause in the drug pricing law to enforce Monday’s order. Finance minister P Chidambaram had halved the excise duty on all medicines from 16 % to 8 % in this year’s budget. Excise duty will now be levied on 64.5% of the MRP instead of 57.5% earlier. This works out to a 4.58% cut in the MRP on all medicines.   Drug makers have to s...

Need For Drug Detox Will Increase In Spite Of Big Pharma Cut-Backs

Prescription drug detox numbers may likely grow as generic drugs replace brands. With 40,000 jobs lost and more cut-backs expected, Big Pharma is shrinking. But before you breathe a sigh of relief, the industry wide reductions occurring among most Big Pharma corporations will probably create even more of a need, not less, for prescription ...

Dabur Pharma: Trading call
2008-01-06 18:30:00
Hi A new trading call for you savy stock investors. Dabur Pharma The Stock closed at 84.20 on Friday January 4th. It touched a 52 week high of 92.4 on 3rd January. Profit booking might have brought the stock down. Technically it had a breakout over 86-87. For more than a year it tested these levels but went down from there. In this January rally it might go above this level and trade above it for quite some time. Tomorrow that is Monday January 7th,2008 we will see a sharp cut in the market because of weak US Job data numbers and the fall in US markets. This will give us a good level to enter in this stock. Try to get into this stock around 80-84 levels with a price target of 95+ this means a gain of around 15%+ in the next 15 trading sessions. Hold the stock even when the target is achieved. A new target will be published after 95 is crossed. All Loss should be booked if it goes below the Stop Loss level of 75. Summary Buy: 80 - 84 Target 1: 95+ Target 2: Visit after T1 i...
