Signs that Phil Mickelson may be getting too old for the PGA Tour
2012-01-20 16:55:00 Although he will always be the fan favorite, Mickelson?s season-opener at the Humana is a challenge for Phil and for the event. Both had glory and are now trying to reclaim it. Humana is using charming ex-President Bill Clinton as its new host replacing the incomparable Bob Hope. Once a five-day star-studded event, the Humana has scaled back in size and scope hoping to regain its popularity; the two biggest names in the field this week are Mickelson and Greg Norman, another "sentimental favorite". Mickelson will be attempting to get 2012 off to a strong start in a comfortable setting where he is the leading money winner in order to help reclaim his top-ten spot in the OWGR. Lefty currrently resides in the 14th position in the world rankings. Humana Tournament Chairman Larry Thiel, while welcoming Mickelson to the event, mentioned that Phil chose a comfortable start over a more intense one. ?Everyone who has the privilege of watching Phil play sees a true master at his cr...

Is Keegan Bradley flying to China on the wings of Phil Mickelson?
2011-10-24 16:24:00 Keegan Bradley, the sensational rookie winner of the PGA Championship, says he can?t wait to take his place at Asia?s only World Golf Championship, the WGC-HSBC Champions, in Shanghai in November. Tim Maitland reports. Phil Mickelson, Keegan Bradley at BarclaysThe 25-year-old nephew of LPGA legend Pat Bradley had already booked his ticket to China when he sealed his maiden PGA Tour win at the Byron Nelson Championship in May. He guaranteed he?d be one of the stars of the show in Shanghai when he joined the flood of recent first-time Major winners and put his name next to those of Francis Oiumet (1913) and Ben Curtis (2003) as only the third player in the history of golf to win such a prestigious title at his first attempt. Further icing on the cake came last week when he won the four-player (2011) Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda.?I?ve watched that tournament on TV for as long as it?s been there. I can remember a lot of the holes. It?s exciting to think I?ve qualified to ...

I'm sorry Phil Humber...for today
2011-04-10 06:48:00 Why is this picture the only Phil Humber option? (Nuccio DiNuzzo, Chicago Tribune / April 9, 2011)Ok, sometimes I overreact. Sometimes, I'm overly dramatic. Sometimes, I'm very mad at the White Sox. All of these things came together last night when I said that the loss killed me because Phil Humber was pitching the next game. I thought that we would lose that game. Considering the final score was 4-2 in our favor, I stand corrected. Considering that I didn't mind him giving up 1 run because I expected it to be 30-0 in 2 innings, I was, in fact, pleasantly surprised by his start.6 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts. Not bad. Actually, it's very...

2011-04-02 17:16:00 ?J? is a collaboration between friends/music partners Jason Campbell, Bass and Vocals, and Jamie Humphries, Guitars, both known to friends and family as Jay, hence the name. Jason and Jamie first met in the early 90?s, while both performing in bands on the Kent Rock scene. Both shared a love for the music of Jimi Hendrix and Kings X, and soon began to work together on various projects. Although at various points they both embarked on other work with in the industry, they still continued to write and record tracks together in their studio. Jason performed and recorded with renowned UK rock guitarist Phil Hilborne, and also performed with US guitarist Richie Kotzen, (Poison, Mr Big, Vertue). Jason also recorded a series of Bass tuition programs for the M Channel, now shown on Rockworld TV. "Fun" Phil or "Safe" Mickelson?
2011-02-02 19:50:00 One article on the Phil Mickelson website mentioned that "fun" Phil reappeared at Torrey Pines but will the "let it ride" or "safe" Mickelson attitude win more PGA Tour events this season? On Sunday, Mickelson's play on the 18th hole at Torrey Pines gave fans mixed signals about what to expect from Lefty's game. Did Mickelson make a hasty decision by carving a safe shot out of the rough before watching how Bubba Watson played the 18th? Should Phil have gone for the green or lay-up as he ultimately chose to do? Mickelson's usual risk-taking attitude gave way to a safe out handing Watson his second victory. Although risk could have equaled reward, (an eagle and a playoff), it could have also equated to folly. Perhaps Phil could have been thinking back to his 2006 US Open disaster in which he double-bogeyed the 18th hole at Winged Foot losing a one-stroke lead and dropping into a tie for second place. As Phil said, "I'm not ever going to forget it, that's obvious!" Thr...
Phil Hilborne: shred knowledge interview
2011-01-29 03:00:00 1. How did you enjoy NAMM 2011, what cool stuff stood out? a. Gosh! That is actually a tricky question to answer because most of the time I was working and didn't get as much time to look around as I would have liked ? plus, the place is huge! However, the amps I was demonstrating - The Hayden High-gain 20 and 40 are really, really good... I have done a lot of R&Dwork recently with the company - helping to test them and 'voice' them properly etc....They got an amazing response from everyone that heard them that's for sure! Other than that, I saw some great new guitars on the PRS stand and also heard on the grapevine about a digital pick-up selector that allows you to have all the possible switching options - if it works that would be amazing as it could potentially make the 3 and 5 way switches we all currently use a thing of the past! 2. You have played a PRS Guitar for as long as I've known you, you must have been offered endorsements a lot? a. Yes, there has been a few d...
Meet Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race.
2011-01-28 21:42:00 In May of 2010, I decided to embark on a journey of racing 500 miles for charity. My rules were simple, I had to mix the sports up (biking, running, triathlon etc) and I couldn't quit once I started.Over the next few months, I learned a lot about myself, about pain, about commitment, about achieving goals and many other things that I will keep with me for the rest of my life.In March of 2009, Phil Keoghan, the host of "The Amazing Race" left Los Angeles on his bike for a 40-day ride across America that covered over 3,500 miles. Joining Phil for this grueling journey were his cycling wingman, best friend, a former California Highway Patrol Officer and his...
Tiger Woods vs Phil Mickelson at Torrey Pines? It could happen!
2011-01-27 00:11:00 The 2011 PGA Tour season didn't officially begin this week, but with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson debuting at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, expect the pace to ramp up a bit. Now imagine these two golfers, with everyone anxiously awaiting their return, playing head to head on Sunday! It's a stretch but it could happen and did occur with their "dream pairing" at the 2008 U.S. Open. Six wins at Torrey Pines for Woods with three for Mickelson show that these two golfers are confident that they made the right decision starting their 2011 PGA Tour season at this golf course. credit Should Phil have begun with business as usual at the Bob Hope Classic? With two wins at this event, it might have made a more positive impact than his decision to tune-up in Abu Dhabi. PGA.com contended that Mickelson "lost interest in recent years when the tournament started moving away from its traditional rotation of golf courses," resulting in his overseas tri...
Both Tiger and Phil could use a win at Torrey Pines
2011-01-26 17:26:00 This week at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Tiger Woods opens his 2011 season desperate to rebound from a winless, disastrous 2010. Phil Mickelson comes to his hometown course not having won since early last year at the Masters, and not having notched a tournament title since turning 40-years-old last June. Both guys could really use a win -- not a good showing -- a win.

Song Of The Day - "I'm Going To Say It Now" by Phil Ochs
2010-12-10 14:31:00 By Eric Berman Song Of The Day - "I'm Going To Say It Now" by Phil Ochs Clips of Phil Ochs performing are pretty rare, so forgive the sound quality on this performance from 1968. Here we have Phil singing one of his most biting protest songs originally from the 1965 album "Phil Ochs In Concert." Don't be fooled by the name of that album...it was really a studio album with dubbed applause! So much for sincerity... Ochs was a tragic figure who put himself forever in the shadow of Bob Dylan trying to top him throughout his career. While Dylan was far more media savvy and a lot more calculated, Ochs was far more genuine and sincere. There was plenty...
Bulls vs Lakers 7pm on ESPN - Phil's Chicago swan song?
2010-12-10 13:06:00 Derrick Rose has never defeated the Lakers.Joakim Noah has never defeated the Lakers. It's time for those streaks to end.The Lakers roll into Chicago in what many believe to be Phil Jackson's final United Center appearance. Why those people think the Lakers won't make it to the finals out west is beyond me, because he should have a minimum of two more in June [i kid]. Both teams should be motivated after struggling to barely escape with road victories against sub-par opponents on Wednesday. The Bulls have the distinction of being the Lakers only victory against a +500 team this season, so the Lakers really are playing at a level that plenty of other good teams find beatable. ...

Monday Headlines: Crazy Uncle Phil Does it Again
2010-11-22 12:06:00 (Phil Velasquez, Chicago Tribune)Crazy Uncle Phil had one of those ideas that's so crazy it just might work. He proposed a Jim Hendry for Kenny Williams trade. For starters, White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf (the man who was willing to allow the Marlins to talk to Guillen if they would give up the aforementioned outfielder-first baseman Morrison) should swap general manager Ken Williams to the Cubs for Jim Hendry. This GM-for-GM switch would position both men in positions where they could have the most positive impact. Consider that, as the White Sox's GM the steady Hendry immediately would end the organizational dysfunction that has arisen from the Williams-Guillen feud, which has arisen out of the unusual level of nepotism allowed under...

Tiger Woods earnings down but still $30 million richer than Phil Mickelson
2010-10-19 20:11:00 According to SI.com, Tiger Woods may have dropped $9 million in earnings from last year but he is still the number one golfer on tour and still about $30 million ahead of Phil Mickelson! In spite of his scandalous year, advertisers dropping like flies and nary a win in sight, Tiger Woods earned a whopping $90.5 million: only $20 million in "salary" from PGA Tour standings but $70 million from endorsements! In spite of being dropped by Gatorade, ATT and Accenture (see below), Woods' $10 million FedEx Cup bonus helped keep him in the number one position on the "Fortunate 50", ahead of Mickelson, LeBron James and Alex Rodriguez, whose Yankees salary of $33 million with only $4 million in endorsements barely halves Woods' home run. Here is a list of Tiger Woods' corporate partners and sponsors, according to Golf.com, which helped keep Tiger Woods ahead on the money list: 1. Nike - "Just Do It" 2. EA Sports 3. Tag Heuer - "What are You Made of?" 4. Gillette - "The Best a Man ca...

Arthritic Phil Mickelson turns vegetarian
2010-08-12 00:40:00 I wonder if Phil Mickelson ever thought about the consequences of turning forty and the possible unwelcome side-effects? (credit) Five days before the U.S. Open (and right before his big birthday), Mickelson awakened with "intense pain" and couldn't move. Lefty's doctor visit found him to be suffering from psoriatic arthritis but a weekly treatment of shots seems to have put the symptoms under control. A friend of mine once mentioned that turning forty was no picnic; to be wary of the bevy of doctors visits, new meds that you will be taking, etc... and now I'm getting worried! From doctor's visits to a 'one-eighty' turnaround in diet, Phil Mickelson is a changed man. A veggie burger doesn't really taste like the real thing, no matter how much you tell yourself it does but, after a few bites, it's not so bad. Mickelson said of his new-and-improved diet, "As long as I believe that there’s a possibility that it will help me ...
Holy Crap Phil Rogers! Really?!?!?
2010-07-28 04:25:00 Ever since I first picked apart something utterly nuts Tribune baseball writer Phil Rogers said, I realized it to be a crutch; an easy-to-write, obvious set-up for a blog post. Eventually, I knew, people would realize that any jackass with an internet connection could point out that a crazy person is saying crazy things, or a dumb person is saying dumb things, etc. I went so far as to make it my mission every day to not write the enraged-at-Phil-Rogers piece. Well, today's a wash, because here goes.

Birthday Gifts for Phil Mickelson, the man who has it all!
2010-06-13 20:17:00 For Phil Mickelson's 39th birthday last year, wife Amy presented him with a dinosaur head, possibly a "Tarbosaurus bataar." What do you give the "man who has everything" as Mickelson called himself? Before you say "rocking chair", I've come up with gifts that Phil might appreciate for his 40th birthday. 1. One year of assorted Krispy Kreme donuts. Mickelson's favorite! 2. A winning assortment of "goodies" from Callaway. Mickelson has been testing new Callaway equipment and now needs the right driver, swing adjustments and confidence boosters to secure the U.S. Open trophy. 3. Five Guys now Six Guys? Mickelson won the bid to franchise Five Guys Burgers in Orange County, CA. Perhaps a winning shake to go with "the best burgers I've ever tasted"? 5. First tee time with Paddy Harrington and Y.E. Yang at the 2010 U.S. Open? Nah! A "pairing" with Tiger Woods would be a better gift with Mickelson thrashing Woods and coming out of the shadow of the world's number one golfer. ...
Jake Peavy is Accountable, Phil Rogers Needs To Be
2010-05-26 00:53:00 What I felt was outright wrong was for Rogers to ask "How much longer will the Sox keep giving starts to Freddy Garcia?", as if Garcia has been consistently bombing in his outings. Freddy has made 8 starts this season. 2 were awful, 1 was mediocre, and 5 were quality. 5! Including the last three in a row up to that point! By this standard why haven't we traded away every starter save for John Danks?!?! Heck, Danks struggled last night, maybe Rogers thinks a team official should whisper in John's ear that if he gives up more than three runs in the next start, he's being sent to Charlotte. Geez, Phil, I know everyone is only as good as their last outing, but I don't know if we can afford to dump all these contracted players after each bad outing, we're still smarting after being fleeced in the Pierre deal. Please.
Phil Rogers Writes About the White Sox, Gets Things About 30% Right
2010-05-21 00:21:00 The Tribune company owns the server that this blog is published on, so maybe this isn't the smartest career move I've ever made, but something tells me that limited readership is my friend. Tribune writer Phil Rogers wrote a feature article about the dreary beginnings for both the Cubs and Sox that I hated hated hated, which is remarkable considering I essentially agreed with the central thesis of the piece. The thesis being that the White Sox are most likely doomed, but the Cubs have a chance because they're more talented and play in a weaker division. I don't think that the Sox necessarily can get over the hump and overtake Minnesota if everyone kicks in the gear, but for Rogers to say that "you really have to use your imagination to get this Sox team to .500" when so many players on the roster are producing drastically below career norms (Quentin, Pierzynski, Floyd, Buerhle, Ramirez, Beckham, or even Pierre). Of those players, only Pierzynski and Pierre are due for age-re...

Schuster and I aren't friends, so I haven't seen it first hand though apparently B&B also discussed it on the radio.
