Cops who were found Innocent in Sean Bell's case have their jobs in Jeopard
2008-05-21 19:23:00
The three officers who were found "innocent" for killing Sean Bell are in jeopardy of losing their jobs. After the acersosos went home labeled "Free Men" they now face internal charges at work. Each man was accused of firing their weapon outside of NYPD departmental guidelines - a serious offense that could result in an ousting from the force. The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been active about the injustice that took place, leading a citywide march earlier this week, issued a statement saying, he feels the charges are "a step in right direction," but he wants the officers involved axed without a drawn out internal procedure. Sharpton goes on to compare Sean Bell's shooting to a recent incident in Philadelphia involving Police beating the hell out of their victim, there were no fatalities but four officers were fired and others disciplined for their actions. But these schmucks kill an innocent man and they get off. What kind of shit is that? I REALLY hope justice will be served once and...

Round 1: Philadelphia vs. Detroit

2008 Philadelphia International Auto Show Coverage
2008-04-30 17:28:00
Black Tie Gala, Food, Booze, The New Audi A4 and Miss AmericaAfter a very long week in the office, I was looking forward to a relaxing Friday night with my girlfriend. I had been talking to a few of my co-workers and one of them mentioned they were going to the Philadelphia Auto Show's Black Tie Gala event that evening. Having lived in the area for the last couple of years, it was something I always wanted to do.The reason I hadn't gone in the past is because the price tag for the event was rather steep - $200 for the evening. Seemingly every year the price had gone up, and for whatever reason I just dealt with general admission to the venue. Over the past few years I'd grown weary of car shows being mobbed by people to the point where you really couldn't get a good look at anything for more than a few seconds, as people would shuffle you out of the way for their 10 second chance to glimpse an exotic auto.Taking a picture was impossible as well, because even if you had enough sp...

Philadelphia Phillies Prospect Update
2008-04-27 14:57:00
On Friday, John Sickels' guest on "Down On The Farm Friday" was Philadelphia Phillies Director of Minor Leagues Steve Noworyta.  Here is a rundown of some of the top Phillies prospects discussed and the letter grade Mr. Sickels gave them in his The Baseball Prospect Book 2008 along with a blurb if the name is unfamiliar [to me]. LHP Joe Savory B:  His control issues were a result of "tight hips".  If he pitches weel, he can be in AA in June LHP Josh Outman B: Headed towards middle relief in the majors RHP Carlos Carrasco B: Added maturity this year and sharpened his curveball.  Could be called up to Philly if a starter is needed RHP Kyle Drabek C+: Appreciates what he lost after blowing his arm.  Should be back on mound in August and come fast RHP Julian Sampson C+: Pitching at 92-95 and touching 97 could have gone in in second round [of 2007 draft]..a nice coup for the Phillies, and he could be/should be one of their best pitching prospects within two yea...

Clinton Needs Massive Victory Tuesday, Narrow Victory is a Loss
2008-04-22 08:50:00
After 7 weeks of campaigning in Pennsylvania, and more than one year after the race for president began, Tuesday might bring us closer to knowing the Democratic nominee. Before the real hard fought campaigning began in Pennsylvania, Senator Clinton had a 20 point lead over Barack Obama. On Monday a list of new polls was released giving Clinton a range of only 3 to 8 points in her lead over Obama. Obama has been able to cut into Clinton?s lead by focusing on the blue-collar voters of Pennsylvania and working hard to relate to the working class in that state. Obama?s campaign in Pennsylvania reached out to this voting demographic in ways that he did not do in other states. Senator Clinton has also been hurt by the Bosnia sniper story which has further damaged her image as an honest and trustworthy leader. Obama has also faced his own problems while campaigning for the crucial state. While giving a speech in San Francisco, comments he made about small town Pennsy...

2008 Draft: Philadelphia Phillies
2008-04-19 15:01:00
We'll be looking at the 2008 draft over the next few months here at MLBTR. Mike Arbuckle, the Phillies assistant GM, took some questions from fans regarding the draft and the team's farm system. Here are the highlights: When asked what positions the Phils are seeking, Arbuckle gave the right answer. "You have to be very careful about trying to draft toward a particular position, simply because of the time it takes to develop players to get to the big leagues...So you try to draft the best available player in each round, the guy that we would view as having the highest ceiling." On the slotting system: "I think generally we have been a club and are a club that tries to do what's best for the industry." The Phillies have generally stayed within the vicinity of slot. On college players vs. high school players: "In comparing high school to college players, generally the college player is nearer to being the finished product. So you can't project as much on a college player as you wo...

Highlights of Dem Prez Debate in Philadelphia
2008-04-18 19:38:00
Wednesday night?s Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia included a brief discussion of foreign policy issues, but was largely a rehash of previous positions. Following an extensive spat over Obama?s ?bitter? comment, Clinton?s exaggerated Bosnia experience, and comments made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the candidates finally got down to the key foreign policy issues of Iraq and Iran. Regarding the latter, Obama highlighted the need to ?keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of the Iranians? through direct talks and a ?carrots and sticks? approach, noting that he would not take any...
