It is also the city which is quite strange to me because of its secrets and mysteries. Progress becomes possible only because the of city's secret eradication of the precious lives of many individuals--a mystery that until now haunts Davao of its inquisitorial past and present. I grew up in the neighboring town of New Bataan where I spent my grade school. And ever since I was a little boy, I was already hearing about the seeming peace of Davao that was made possible only by sheding the blood of troublemakers. Just look at this old Philippine Airlines ad from 1987, way before computer graphics and digital manipulation made landscapes picture perfect (in fact, too perfect). Here, what you see is what you get.This TV ad beats any tourism ad currently airing today. It's hard to ignore and you feel a lump in your throat while watching it.
