Hard to believe it, but Week Ten of the college football season is here. This week in the Big Ten there are several interesting match-ups. Iowa will continue its quest for an undefeated season when the Hawkeyes welcome Northwestern to Kinnick Stadium; The Badgers play a desperate Indiana team that could be dangerous if it could ever put a whole game together; Michigan will hope to rebound against the sputtering Boilermakers in the Big House; The Gophers and the Illini will meet in a battle of dueling momentum; The Spartans get a "breather" against MAC foe Western Michigan. And those are the noon games! 2nd round Blackhawks draft pick Dan Bertram leaves hockey: IceHogs
2009-11-05 04:16:00
by Kris GrayUpdate on Blackhawks' Prospect Dan Bertram. In the pre-season Dan Bertram, selected in the second round, 54th overall in the 2005 entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks suffered an injury in a game against the Peoria Rivermen. At the start of the season he was assigned to the ECHL Toledo Walleyes, the Blackhawks' and IceHogs AA affiliate. Fans soon noticed that he was missing from the Walleye's roster. The AHL transactions had listed him as being added back onto the IceHogs roster on October 12th. According to the IceHogs Director of Communications, Chris Etheridge, "Dan Bertram is pursuing other activities outside of hockey. He is no longer on any team's roster". The exact reason for Bertrams sudden...

It's time for another edition of Pick Six, where FBT interviews a nationally recognized Big Ten writer, broadcaster, or football expert to chat about a half-dozen topics.  Today's guest is Charissa Thompson of the Big Ten Network. Charissa checked in with FBT from the injured list, as she's currently recovering from a broken foot and ankle.  When healthy, her weekly college football duties include hosting Big Ten's Best, contributing to Friday Night Tailgate, and, of course, reporting from the sideline each Saturday for Big Ten football games.    With the introductions out of the way, let's jump right into the questions.1.  What are some of your favorite Big Ten football coaches or players to interview (maybe a top three) and why?  What...

Pin tumbler locks, from the cheapest to the most expensive all work in roughly the same way. The key slides down the keyway in the inner cylinder of the lock. WPS Expansion Draft- Pick 10! (Third Edition)
2009-09-14 03:58:00
The WPS Expansion Draft is just around the corner (Tuesday, September 15th), as we welcome the Philadelphia Independence and Atlanta Beat to the league.  Nick Hawkins and Katie I. picked their favorite ten Stars to protect in previous Red Stars Confidential entries (here & here), so I thought I'd share mine with you as well.  In no particular order...   1.  Brittany Klein (M): one word- tenacious.  Is there really anything else to say? Klein came in from Santa Clara- she's a tiny little thing and she won ball, after ball, after ball, after ball (oh, you get it) against all the top players in the league. I want anyone with this kid of work ethic and determination on the team...
Pick 10!
2009-09-13 23:55:00
An expansion for any league is a good thing. The fans love it, for some it means a team closer to home. But theres one aspect thats not so loved by the fans, or maybe its just me. In the WPS Expansion Draft theres a possibility that an existing team lose 3 players to a new team. Since  existing teams can only lock in ten of their exsisting players that leaves the others up for grabs.

City Tour - Top Pick for Family Travel
2009-08-10 22:03:00
A bus tour was not included on our London agenda years ago because they are expensive, at least for our tight budget. But we splurged last summer, taking a live-guide bus tour of Munich, and a few days later, a recorded-audio bus tour of Berlin. Now that we've experienced those tours in Germany, we will definitely include one on any future travel agenda. A tour provides a great overview of a city's history, and identifies landmarks, which helps to establish a sense of direction. Kids can follow along with a map, and our kids took turns snapping pictures with hubby's old digital camera. The combination of a moving vehicle and a guide's voice kept our 3 boys interested. Our youngest were not quite 10 (twin boys) when we visited Germany, and a 2-hour tour was perfect. The live tour was best because the guide was fun to watch. Perhaps we were lucky that she positioned herself on the double-decker's upper deck where we sat -- it would not have been as entertaining had we been on a d...

Pick It Up
2009-07-28 03:36:00
About a month ago i had the pleasure of going into the studio with Nick Thayer, producer extraordinaire and all round nice guy! We had talked about getting together for awhile to make a track and i was glad it finally happened, i picked up so much in the time i was with him and after a couple of days we had something completed. It is essentially a club version of Fatman Scoop's Faith Evan's sampling Chic sampling 'Be Faithful', and i wont lie we were listening to alot of nadastrom before hand!We have got a lot of love with this tune from local and international DJs and it has been doing damage to dance floors wherever i play it. Here is it tagged and serato ready, hope you enjoy it!Nick Thayer & Mat Cant - Pick It Up (direct download)Also you can hear it on Nick's latest Mixtape "Thizz Disco Vol 3", the tracklist is amazing and i'll post it in the comments section for anyone that's interested.
FUTURAMA Cast vs. 20th Century Fox: Pick a Side!
2009-07-20 14:35:00
On Friday, word leaked out that 20th Century Fox (the studio behind FUTURAMA) had sent out a casting notice to replace original series voice talents John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, Maurice La Marche, Billy West and Katey Sagal with more affordable actors after talks broke down over money. According to Variety, “The stars had all expressed interest in returning. But with the budget for FUTURAMA dramatically slashed, the salary offers came in well below what the thesps were asking — believed to be around $75,000 per episode.” In other-words, assuming the parties fail to come to their senses, “Bite my shiny metal ass” may never sound the same again. What’s worse, this usually opinionated TV Addict finds himself conflicted as to whose side he should be on. On the surface, 20th Century Fox sure comes across as the Mr. Burns of this story — the easy target if you will — the greedy, soulless, corporate mega-behemoth-conglomerate that will undoubtedly be...

Local Singer Offers To Pick Up The Mantle Of King Of Pop
2009-06-26 22:06:00
(Portland, OR) On June 25th, 2009 Michael Jackson passed on leaving this world without a King of Pop. Music critics, producers and performers don’t think anyone will ever be able to replace Jackson, and therefore the Throne of Pop will remain vacant. One man thinks that would be a crime against humanity.“Hello world, my name is Dennis Covington and I am offering myself to be your new King of Pop. As you can see, I look the part. And this axe? Well it ain't just for show.”
Rubio Pick Now Becoming More Clear
2009-06-26 21:41:00
When the Timberwolves drafted 4 PG's in the 2009 NBA Draft they had basketball fans worldwide scratching their heads.  One day later the moves are starting to make a little more sense. In today's economy it is no secret the most valuable players in NBA are one's with expiring or low contracts.  Twelve teams have received loans from the NBA front office.  Watching the NBA draft you'd think every team was trying to sell their pick for dead beat expiring players or cash (two did, LA and WAS). It is this environment that MN found itself with 4 picks in the first round of what many experts were calling the worst draft class since Kenyon Martin's #1 overall 2000 draft.  Direct from wikipedia: Sports Illustrated named this entire draft class (as opposed to individual players) the 6th biggest "draft bust" of the modern era - making it the only draft class among the site's top 20 list. Just before the 2009 draft, ESPN.com columnist David Schoenfield wrote a piece in which he rated ...
Cubs sign top pick Jackson
2009-06-24 06:06:00
The Cubs and their first round pick Brett Jackson have agreed to terms, pending a physical. Jackson is coming off an amazing season at the University of California Berkeley, hitting .321 with 42 runs scored, 23 extra-base hits, and 8 home runs in 53 games this year.  Jackson is considered the second most athletic player coming into the 2009 draft, according to Baseball America. The lefty hitter has the potential to be a true power hitter at the major league level, possibly making the switch to the corner if he gets any bigger....
Top Ten NBA Players Selected with the 16th or 26th Overall Pick
2009-06-19 09:00:00
Awhile back I did a post about the Top Ten Players We Don't Want the Bulls to Draft and needless to say, I learned or thing or two about what to expect with the 16th and 26th overall picks. But while tempering my expectations and scouring the internet for every any mock draft possible, it dawned on me that I couldn't name a single player ever drafted with them. Here's what I came up with.10. Samuel Dalembert, Philadelphia 76ers26th Overall Pick in 2001Philly's man in the middle took a step back in 2008, a year after his 2007 breakout season. But he remains a force to reckon with down low and figures to be a 76ers building block for years to...
Netease (NTES) : A Zweig-type growth pick
2009-06-11 14:00:00
John Reese assesses stocks based on the criteria of a select group of well-known investors with very strong track records of long-term success. In his Validea advisory, he looks at Chinese gaming stock, Netease (NASDAQ: NTES) based on the investment strategy of Martin Zweig, a long established growth investor. Here, he highlights some of the ways that this stock passes the "Zweig test.""Netease operates an interactive online community in China, and is a provider of Chinese language content and services through its online games, Internet portal and wireless value-added services businesses."According to Zweig's investment strategy, the P/E of a company must be greater than 5 to eliminate weak companies, but not more than 3 times the current market P/E because the situation is much too risky, and never greater than 43."NTES's P/E is 17.33, based on trailing 12 month earnings, while the current market PE is 14.00. Therefore, it passes the first test...

Boxer Demands Obama Pick A Woman For Supreme Court
2009-05-13 15:14:00
More at Zennie62.com | Follow me on Twitter! Like other supporters, I received this email letter from U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, but this one was pointed right at one of my favorite subjects: "Who should be Justice David Souter's replacement on the Supreme Court?" After not much stewing on the matter, I would guess, Senator Boxer wants it officially known: President Obama's choice must be a woman and she's taking to the Internets to make it known. I still favor Kathleen Sullivan for the job so no harm there; this is what Senator Boxer wrote: Dear Zenophon, Women make up 51% of our nation's population. Yet only 17% of the seats in Congress are held by women. Only 3% of corporate CEOs are women. And just one out of nine Supreme Court justices is a woman. President Obama can change that. Send an email to the White House now — and urge President Obama to nominate a woman to the U.S. Supreme Court! Since Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement from the Supreme Court ...

Giants try to pick up a free agent receiver and other pre draft notes
2009-04-20 02:06:00
Giants try to pick up a free agent receiver and other pre draft notes It seems that the reports hold some truth at least: The Giants want to swing a deal with the Browns to get Braylon Edwards, who is another talented but "difficult" to work with receiver. Edwards may have some problems working with new Browns and Ex Jets Head Coach Eric Mangini, which seems to be the main issue right now. The Browns want a #2 and a #5 pick in this draft, plus receiver Steve Smith. The Giants countered with the two picks plus receiver Dominik Hixon. What some people are missing is that Edwards isn't Burress. He's two+ inches shorter and 15 pounds lighter. Can he play the same "Jump Ball in the End Zone" game? Sure he can. But if Hixon also goes in the deal the Giants would still need to get another "taller" wide out in the Draft or Via Free Agency to help stretch the defensive backs.I'll cast my vote for Brian Robiskie early, or Ramses Barden late. I prefer to see a team built through the draft...
Pick A Winner, Win A Prize
2009-04-07 20:00:00
As these night games make for slooooooow days (though days with the promise of baseball at the end nonetheless), let's have our first LOHO contest of the season to keep things interesting. As you can probably tell, the nickname of our newest favorite Cub was insprired by the above. It's a Milton Bradley game, it's generally solid, but then you never know when the whole thing is going to fall apart See? Funny, right? Oh very well, it doesn't have to be funny. It's apt. Anyhoo, in order to win said game, and hence, hours and hours of nerve-wrecking, frustration-inducing fun (just like the Cubs!), you will have to pick the division, league, and WS winners. Please use the following format, because at some point, I'm going to have to figure out who won: AL East AL Central AL West AL WC NL East NL Central NL West NL WC AL Penant: NL Penant: WS: Also, since there were about 4 people who arguably won Sam Fuld's pants, those might be back in the prize bin again in the future. Stay tu...

Guru strategies pick retailers
2009-03-13 05:00:00
In his Validea (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2914) newsletter, John Reese (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2914) uses a fascinating approach to stock selection; he assesses companies based on the investment strategies of "legendary investors" such as Ben Graham and Warren Buffett.Recently, the advisor has highlighted two retailers that pass his guru screens: Gildan Activewear (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=gil) (NYSE: GIL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=gil)) and Jos. A. Bank Clothiers (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=josb) (NASDAQ: JOSB (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=josb)). Here's his contrarian look at the two out-of-favor firms."You might never have heard Gildan Activewear, a Montreal-based clothing manufacturer, but you may well have worn its products."Gildan sells T-shirts, sport shirts and fleece to wholesale distributors as 'blanks' -- that is, without logos or...
Two Charged After FBI Raids Former Office of Obama's Pick for Information O
2009-03-13 03:52:00
After looking at this list of corrupt Obama appointees it makes one wonder if anyone in his administration isn't corrupt.A District of Columbia employee and a technology consultant were charged with corruption counts Thursday after FBI agents raided the former office of the man tapped to be President Obama's chief information officer. The White House said it was notified in advance of the search at the office of Vivek Kundra, who was formerly the D.C. technology officer. While the raid was happening at his old office, Kundra was giving a speech elsewhere on his new goals for government contracting.Kundra was not a target of the investigation, a source told FOX News. But Yusuf Acar, a city technology worker who worked under Kundra, was charged. He was ordered held without bond pending a hearing Tuesday. Prosecutors said $70,000 in cash was found during a search of Acar's home. Technology consultant Sushil Bansal was released but was ordered not to engage in overseas financial tran...

NBA 17-01 Tercer Pick
2009-01-16 17:11:00
Pick up Stix - Stix Combo

Pick Up Stix Stix Combo, $6.99. These was the house special chicken with noodles and fried wontons. Comes with a drink. We had a coupon, so everything was free. We never eat food like Pick Up Stix or Panda Express because we know it's not gonna taste like real Chinese food, it's just nasty American Chinese food. Just like we thought, this food was nasty. It's a good thing we could try it out for free. No way I'm paying $7. If you know what real Chinese food tastes like, you won't eat this. Rating (food): 1/ 5 Repeat: Nohttp://www.pickupstix.com/
