Picture This: Rezko
2008-06-05 21:28:00 This is not a face Barack Obama wanted to see in the news again as he begins his general election campaign. A federal jury convicted Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a Chicago developer with ties to Obama, on 16 of 24 corruption charges yesterday. Still, it's probably better for the Obama campaign that the conviction came now rather than in the fall. "I'm saddened by today's verdict. This isn't the Tony Rezko I knew, but now he has been convicted by a jury on multiple charges that once again shine a spotlight on the need for reform," Obama said Wednesday. "I encourage the General Assembly to take whatever steps are necessary to prevent these kinds of abuses in the future."

Picture This: Protests
2008-06-01 07:04:00 Protesters, most supporting Hillary Clinton, gathered in Washington, DC outside of the DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting today. The group demanded all the votes from Florida and Michigan be counted and the states' full delegations be seated at the Denver convention. The crowds were no doubt disappointed by the committee's ruling, however, which gave the delegates from both states only half a vote at the convention. That result virtually eliminates Clinton's already slim chances of winning the delegates, super or otherwise, needed for the Democratic nomination. Her campaign may still take their fight to Denver.Barack Obama had urged his supporters not to protest at the event.

Picture This: Between A Rock And A Hard Place
2008-05-28 20:00:00 John McCain appeared with President Bush publicly for less than a minute as the commander in chief joined the Arizona senator for a closed-press fundraiser in Phoenix yesterday. The event was moved from the Convention Center to a private residence to further avoid the public eye.Indeed, McCain walks a fine line in his relationship with the current White House resident. With his fundraising lagging far behind Democratic counterparts Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, McCain needs Bush to help bring in the huge amounts of cash that helped him win in 2000 and 2004. But with President Bush's popularity reaching historic lows, McCain does not want to appear too close. "He's holding a fund-raiser with George Bush behind closed doors in Arizona. No cameras, no reporters. And we all know why," Obama told reporters. "Senator McCain doesn't want to be seen, hat in hand, with the president whose failed policies he promises to continue for another four years."

Picture This With Your iPhone
2008-05-10 11:39:00 Have you ever been in a situation where you have wanted to take a picture of something and didn’t have a camera with you? It can be quite frustrating because you miss a great photo opportunity simply because you don’t have the right equipment with you. But if you have an Apple iPhone, you never have to worry about missing those great photo opportunities again. The Apple iPhone has a two-megapixel camera that is built right in and is ready to use when you want to take a picture. Even if you have had a cell phone with a built in camera before, you will find that it doesn’t compare to what the Apple iPhone can do. The Apple iPhone makes it easy to share your photos with its easy and automatic synchronization, whether you are using a Mac or a PC for your docking. It’s never been easier to display the pictures you take - all it takes is a touch of a finger. Not only that, but when you take your pictures they can be posted directly to a Mac Photo Gallery. The Apple...

Picture this: ViPR recognizes books, music, DVDs
2008-04-18 20:45:00 I consume what an expert might call “way too much media,” but even I only have so much time. More often than not, I need to keep a list—a queue if you will—of all the books, movies, TV shows, music, video games, etc. that I want to check out. Sure, I could just keep a note in the iPhone Notes app, but sometimes typing the information in is just an exercise in frustration. Besides, a picture = 1K words, right? Snapping a shot is easy, but it still means that you have to take the time to do the heavy lifting later. That’s where ViPR comes in. Designed by Evolution Robotics Inc., ViPR is a visual pattern recognition system: you can take a picture of an object like a book or movie, email it to the ViPR server, and have it send you back information about it, including links to iTunes (for music), YouTube (for video), and the web. The software even seems to be able to do its job if you take sloppy off-angle pictures, like me, snap an upside down shot, or ha...

PICTURE THIS: KHUDA KE LIYE
2008-04-10 15:21:00 If you were fond of movies and were there in 1965, you will probably remember the year as being an especially happy one. Vijay Anand’s Guide, starring Dev Anand, had been released to box-office and critical success. Satyajit Ray had been conferred the Silver Bear for Best Direction at the Berlin Film Festival for his 1964 film Charulata. On the more ‘popular’ side, Mehmood’s Bhut Bungla saw the legendary songwriter-singer duo of Rahul Dev Burman and Kishore Kumar team up for the first time. Perhaps less memorable, if you were a filmi fan, would be the fact that after September 6, 1965, when war between India and Pakistan broke out, an official ban was Imposed between the two neighbours on each other’s movies. So despite its runaway success in the Punjab, the M.J. Rana Pakistani-Punjabi blockbuster Jeedar would not be seen in Punjab on the other side of the border. The ban remained in place till Friday, when Khuda Kay Liye, directed by Sho...

2008-01-26 02:47:00 As we sat bundled in extra clothes, the little one and I stole the wonderwife's new camera while she was out and snapped off a few pictures. I don't post alot of pictures, mainly because I don't really get a chance to take many. Now, if I can convince her, I will get to use her older camera to take pictures of the silliest of things.I swear if I can get a pic of those cows ice skating, it would win some serious awards.NOTE: Right after these pictures were taken, the little one was not pleased with her shots and chucked her cell phone at me. A full scale rumble ensued throughout the living room. She won.I obviously still need to work on my photo taking skills so that I can avoid further punishment. Right now I am recovering from bruised ribs and a bloody nose. Those darn fashion model types.

Facing her first real test since the campaign began, can she move past her poor performance of a few weeks ago? How will she handle the inevitable question about drivers licenses for illegal immigrants? The campaign has to have been working on some sort of response to put this situation to rest, but how effective will it be?Some are suggesting Barack Obama has reinvigorated his campaign with an impressive (and more aggressive) speech at Iowa's Jefferson-Jackson dinner.
