Mixing it up
2008-05-28 14:10:00 *Disclaimer: I received this bottle of wine as part of a blogger trial of Bottlenotes. The bottle was a 2006 Catello Banfi Le Rime Chardonnay-Pinot Grigio. I can't say I have ever seen such a mix before, but I was intrigued and couldn't wait to try it. In fact, delinquent blogger that I am, I tried this wine months ago and simply let the notes get lost among the now well over 500 posts on Wannabe Wino. The wine hails from Tuscany, clocked in at 12% alcohol by volume, and can be purchased from Bottlenotes for $10! I don't think the wine saw oak, though I did see some creamy tendencies in it...maybe it went through a little malo or it's just the influence of the Chardonnay? On the nose I found creamy vanilla, lemon, tropical fruit, and pineapple. The nose was very light, and it took some serious sniffing on my part to tease out some flavors. In the mouth the wine was crisp and light, it showed a little lemon, peach, pineapple, and tropical fruit. I sort of expected it to be oaky...

Turning Leaf Reserve 2005 Pinot Grigio California
2007-12-07 22:28:00 It?s probably a perfect wine for next summer. Light, airy, not too sweet, and something of a wet finish. I?ve you?ve been drinking wine coolers of late (Arbor Mist comes to mind), this might be worthy replacement. read more
A Bee on the Bottle
2007-11-02 13:25:00 Another bottle from my first WineQ shipment of the season, this time a bottle of 2006 Esca Pinot Grigio. The wine hails from Sonoma, cost me $17.99 (free shipping!), and had a real cork closure. Again (becoming habit around here!) Matt tossed the bottle before I could record the alcohol content. You can get this wine here, from WineQ.I really liked the label on this bottle with the cute little bee! I'll put one of Matt's "artistic" photos at the end for a hopefully better angle....On the nose of the wine I found pear, flowers, sweet citrus, and honey. The wine was steel fermented and then aged in neutral oak barrels, but I didn't notice any oak on the nose. In the mouth there was lemon, other citrus, peach, and pear.Overall the wine was crisp and light, though I think the oak added a nice body to the wine. A good value, I'd get this bottle again.

Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DiFlora 2006 IGT Whole Foods – Great everyday
2007-10-02 19:26:00 The dollar falls resulting in higher prices for European goods. My favorite wines are caught up in this mess. Most domestic wines do not do it for me and I do not want to give up my bottle of wine at the dinner table. Whenever wine is missing it just seems wrong. The more famous Italian white wines available in our local market are too “pushed”.... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
SIPPING PINOT GRIGIO AND ADMONISHING MARIGOLDS
2007-08-19 13:00:00 by Earl J. WilcoxWalking bare foot in our back yard wet from dew,we survey our fifty-foot kingdom, where zestyzinnias, scrawny marigolds coexist in a sunny spot. The flowers--- with equal fertilizer, encouraging words---remind us of an ongoing oncology concernroiling about South Carolina?s spiritual health.Revolutionaries have coexisted here for morethan three hundred years. Our landscape islittered or decorated?depending on one?s viewof history---with battle sites and cemeteries.Markers stake out gardens of hallowed ground.A new revolutionary battle cry is heard in ourland: an ultra-conservative religious cult signalsits intent to invade, take control of the citizenry. If this rapturous revolution explodes, will our morning rituals be altered, canwe still choose sunny spots for planting, walk unfettered among lush grass, heartyor puny plants? Such trivial catechism is notpreached lightly by these heaven boundersseeking to convert our population. In theirtheology, Sundays may be only fo...
Fake Prosecco and Pinot Grigio on the Market – Protecting Quality 2007
2007-08-10 17:01:00 Thanks to the great Italian wine bloggers Aristide and Lizzy, the wine journalist, for the information necessary this article. Italian wines are the best wines in the world. I have not tasted all the wines in the world and I am not saying that there are not some fantastic wines produced in every country. I am saying that Italy has the strictest... Tasting and Reporting Again!
2007-08-06 14:04:00 The wine of the evening, after we came home from dinner was a 2006 Nelson Pinot Grigio. A great bottle of wine for a hot summer evening's sipping. I can't find a picture that I took of this one, but that might be because I cleaned my camera out in order to take many photos of a wedding we attended last weekend. On the nose of this bottle I found lemon, honeysuckle, figs, and wet stones. In the mouth I would describe the wine as minerally, with figs and some citrus. Overall the wine was smooth and had excellent structure. As they sometimes do, my notes say "yum."The wine came in a club shipment and cost us $12. At regular cost you can buy it for $15 from the vineyards. I thought this was an excellent value for the money. I am not normally a Pinot Grigio fan, but this one surprised me and I really enjoyed it.

Bottega Vinaia Pinot Grigio and Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz
2007-06-25 23:21:00 Bottega Vinaia Pinot Grigio2005ItalyShiny green motionSun passing through summer treesDancing in the breezeA little Haiku, for you, prior to my wine review :)Would drink again. We taste-tested this at Olive Garden. I liked it - slightly drier than I normally prefer, but very good flavor and balance and I think with the right food pairing it would be excellent. I probably should have had it with my meal (linguini, garlic, basil and tomatoes), but I opted for the Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz (review next) because I love reds so much (plus the antioxidant level in reds is far superior to the practically non-existant levels in whites).7.5 out of 10 (could definitely be an 8 with food)Not sure of the alc. by vol.Approx. $18.99 - 21.99 / bottleTrentino-Alto Adige RegionPenfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz2005AustraliaDefinitely will drink again.I ordered this at Olive Garden and really enjoyed it before my meal, and with my calamari appetizer. It did not accompany my main meal well and I knew th...

I stopped on my way home and had a little discussion with the wine guy. I don't believe I bought the right wine, but I enjoyed what I bought. Luna di Luna Chardonnay Pinot Grigio and Luna di Luna Pinot Grigio Pinot Grigio were available in the large bottle size. As I wasn't sure I was buying the right one, I opted for the smaller bottle and only the Chardonnay Pinot was available in that size. The wine guy tried to stop me from purchasing either one. He even asked me if I trust my friend's recommendation. I said "just give me the damn wine." (No, I didn't say it out loud - just in my head.) This is a fat, bald guy with a heavy NY accent who is supposedly "100% Italian" and he thinks Luna is "over-rated." I told him to shut the hell up and let me be the judge (no, I actually said that in...
Barefoot Pinot Grigio
2007-06-01 04:26:00 The air is thick, my skin sticksthere is no breeze.Nothing moves, no blade of grassnot one of any leaves in the trees. Then, the greeness of the foliage becomes flourescentbackdrop to the blackening sky.I raise my head and arms, knowing what's comingand close my eyes. The storm within me subsides as the wind begins to blow. The outside-inside polarization calms me and I reach for my chilled Pinot Grigio.BarefootPinot GrigioTotally refreshing well chilled on a hot day. My mother brought this over on Memorial Day along with three bottles of various reds. The Pinot was by far the most enjoyed by all. Although our food was fairly casual (burgers and dogs), I did also have grilled shrimp and I thoroughly enjoyed the Pinot with the shrimp tossed with leftover cold penne and grilled yellow, orange and red peppers and sweet onion.Cheap. Really cheap. $5.99 but mom got it on sale for $4.99! Not bad at all.7 out of 10$5.99Californiawww.barefootwi-ne.com |
