NFL Week 12 Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers (-10 ½) @ Kansas City Chiefs
2011-11-24 05:52:00
Sports Betting Overview It is correct to have the Steelers be favorites in this game because, logic would suggest, that the Steelers will win this game and by a significant margin. But the Kansas City Chiefs are so hard to figure out this season that almost anything could happen in this game. With quarterback Matt Cassel injured, the Chiefs have turned to the tuft of hair known as Tyler Palko to try and win games. But Palko is not playing the role of able backup. He is unpredictable, undisciplined and makes really bad decisions in the face of just the slightest pressure. In the week 11 loss to the New England Patriots, Palko throw three interceptions without countering with a single touchdown pass. Will we see rookie Ricky Stanzi this week? Considering how bad Palko is playing and the luck that other 2011 rookie quarterbacks have had, we just may see the rookie in week 12. The price per head sports fans in Pittsburgh have seen the Steelers develop from an unpredictable bunch on...
In The Red Zone: New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers Preview ? Week
2011-10-28 12:00:00
This Week The New England Patriots visit the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Stadium on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. The Patriots (5-1) are 2-1 on the road, 0-0 against the AFC North and 4-1 in the AFC conference.  The Steelers (5-2) are 3-0 at the Ketchup Bottle, 0-0 vs. the AFC East and 3-2 against the AFC conference. The Line/Prediction As of Thursday the line on the game from Yahoo! Sports have the Patriots at minus 2 1/2.  The over under is 52. My Prediction is Patriots 30, Steelers, 28.  Take the points (Steelers) and take the over.  I am 3-2-1 against the spread and 5 of 6 on calling the over/under in 2011. Tickets The Steelers are reporting the game as a sell out. Tickets to the game, if available, can be purchased through Ticketmaster.  You can check the availability here. Getting to the Game If you?re lucky enough to be going to the game in Pittsburgh make sure you check out the links. Here is the up to date weather forecast for the game from weather.com for ...

Yakking Jets Need More YAC in Pittsburgh
2011-01-21 00:18:00
Yakking Jets Need More YAC in PittsburghBy Jon Wagner-Sr. Writer-Football Reporters OnlineMark Sanchez?s first pass set the tone last Sunday in New England. It was a short, 2nd-and-6 pass to the left for wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who turned the reception into a 16-yard gain to the New England 48 yard-line.And, on just the second play of the New York Jets? monumental divisional playoff upset win over the New England Patriots, the Jets had moved into New England territory for the first of four straight times to start the game. The Jets sorely needed that, after suffering an humiliating 45-3 embarrassment on the same field just six weeks earlier. As Important as linebacker David Harris? interception breaking Tom Brady?s NFL-record streak of 339 consecutive pass attempts without a pick on New England?s opening possession, the Jets simply being on the Patriots? side of the field so often to begin the game was a definite tone setter and collective a psychological lift for Gang Green ...
Stadiums, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arena events

Aw, do you remember that big smooch Jake gave Reese almost a year ago at the Trail Blazers Vs LA Lakers Game? "Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday night to claim the best record in the NBA, but that bit of news seemed to play second fiddle to the "smooch seen round the stadium". During the "Kiss Cam" portion of the evening, actor Jake Gyllenhaal planted a big one on girlfriend Reese Witherspoon. Now I'm not usually one for celebrity gossip;" Source: www.examiner.comFrom now on, will Jake have to attend LA Lakers games with Austin maybe? Steelers Game Moved To Yom Kippur
2009-04-29 17:51:00
The NFL announced yesterday that the Steelers-Bengals game on Sunday, September 27 has been moved from 1:00 to 4:15 Eastern time. While this isn?t a big deal to most people, it is to me. You see, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement and holiest day of the year, starts at sundown that Sunday and continues through sundown on Monday. Yom Kippur is a day of reflection and repentance and the only day of the year that I don?t go online, watch television or listen to music or the radio. The change in time means that I won?t be able to watch the game.I certainly understand the NFL?s rationale for moving the game. The league initially scheduled the Titans-Jets game at 4:15 that day, which meant that the Jets would have home games during both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. However, why move the Steelers-Bengals game? The league could have easily moved the Jaguars-Texans game. No one cares about those teams unless you have Jones-Drew or Andre Johnson on your fantasy team! Actually, less pe...
Steelers Draft Ziggy
2009-04-27 15:07:00
I received a text on Saturday evening from my SIL (that would be sister-in-law) notifying me that the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Ziggy. Obviously, I didn?t believe her since Ziggy is still a kitten, but more importantly, didn?t play football in college or attend any of the pre-draft workouts (at least that I know of). However, I have complete faith in Kevin Colbert, the Steelers? director of football operations, and Coach Mike Tomlin, so I trust their judgment. At 8 months, Ziggy is already 10 pounds and could continue to grow, which would work perfectly for a defensive lineman. Although I have never timed Ziggy in the 40-yard dash, I can attest that he is as quick as a cat. In addition, Ziggy has at least a 3-foot vertical leap that he uses to jump from the floor to the kitchen counter. The only negative is that Ziggy has character issues as demonstrated by the pictures below; however, I think the Steelers, and everyone else, just attributes this to Ziggy being young and per...
Steelers Refrigerator
2009-04-22 18:25:00
Can you really call yourself a Pittsburgh Steelers fan if you don't have a Steelers refrigerator? Well, Mark of Maryland is providing you the opportunity of a lifetime through his Craigslist ad. For only $225, you can have a "Pittsburg Steelers refrigerator, plus other Steelers stuff." Major FAIL for spelling Pittsburgh incorrectly. Here a picture of the Steelers frig in all of its glory:This refrigerator doesn't appear to be anything special, does it? Actually, the wheels may be a nice feature. I think I had the same one (without the Steelers logo and sans wheels) in my college room, but it only cost $50.h/t DC Steeler Nation (also accessible at the DCSteelerNation Yahoo group).
2009 Pittsburgh Steelers Schedule
2009-04-15 14:57:00
The NFL released its 2009 schedule Tuesday evening (was it really necessary to have a television special for this?), one of my favorite days of the year. I always study the schedules, not only for football but for other sports, and try to make plans accordingly. Last year, I called the Jacksonville Jaguars and friends and family immediately after the schedule was released in order to make arrangements to see the Steelers in north Florida. Anyway, enough about me and my travel plans. Here is the schedule for your 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers:Thursday, Sept. 10 ? vs. Tennessee, 8:30 p.m. (NBC)Sunday, Sept. 20 - at Chicago, 4:15 p.m. (CBS)Sunday, Sept. 27 - at Cincinnati, 1 p.m. (CBS)Sunday, Oct. 4 ? vs. San Diego, 8:20 p.m. (NBC)Sunday, Oct. 11 - at Detroit, 1 p.m. (CBS)Sunday, Oct. 18 ? vs. Cleveland, 1 p.m. (CBS)Sunday, Oct. 25 ? vs. Minnesota, 4:15 p.m. (FOX)Nov. 1 - ByeMonday, Nov. 9 - at Denver, 8:30 p.m. (ESPN)Sunday, Nov. 15 ? vs. Cincinnati, 1 p.m. (CBS)Sunday, Nov. 22 - at Kans...
Steelers to Loose Super Bowl Trophies
2009-03-25 20:46:00
Yes, this was the subject of an e-mail that was forwarded to me. Not lose, but loose. It only gets worse from there. The Super Bowl XLIII Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the only team to win six titles, will soon be loosing half of those trophies. After a meeting between NFL Commissioner Rodger Gadel (Sean's note: Rodger Gadel? Really?) and President Barack Hussain Obama, Obama decided to redistribute half of their Steeler Super Bowl victories and trophies to less fortunate teams in the league."We live everyday in the country that invented the Super Bowl." said Obama "We are not about to lose this Great American tradition in the wake of these difficult times." Obama?s plan calls for the Steelers, who are a successful NFL team, to give half of their Super Bowl trophies to teams that are not successful or have not been as successful as the Steelers. "The Detroit Loins are just as much a part of the same fiber of the NFL as the Steelers and they should, no rather will, be entitled to a...

Super Bowl Champions!
2009-02-02 15:07:00
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers for winning their sixth Super Bowl Championship by defeating the Arizona Cardinals 27-23. I recommend visiting the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for full coverage of the game as well as any and all of the blogs listed in the links sections on the right for other takes on the game. While I remain amazed by the James Harrison interception and touchdown return and the Santonio Holmes winning catch, for now, I want to write about the Steelers in general as opposed to the specifics of the game. (I may write more about the specifics later today or sometime over the next few days.)I feel extremely lucky to have been born in Pittsburgh and to be a Steelers fan. I was too young to remember the first four Super Bowl titles, but learned all about the Steelers history from my dad and great uncle. Six Super Bowl championships are unprecedented and the tradition of excellence starts with the Rooney family. The Rooneys are model owners in the NFL as demo...

Are you spending the day waiting for Super Bowl XLIII to begin? Here are some links, especially if you?re a Steelers fan, to help you pass the time until kick-off:There is an incredible list of Steelers fight songs on the Steelers in Hoboken website. I?m still a huge fan of the Polamalu Song. You can?t have a Steelers? Super Bowl without hearing Myron Cope. This site has dozens of Cope quotes. The New York Times and ESPN both have wonderful articles about the history and legacy of the Terrible Towel.Michael Wilbon wrote a nice article about Dan Rooney. I love Ryan Clark?s quote comparing Rooney to Washington owner Dan Snyder:"I'm not saying one way is better than another," Clark said, "But you're standing in line to get lunch, and you have to force him to go ahead of you. He sat at my bedside when I was sick [in the hospital]. He's a fascinating guy. He drives a Grand Prix. Steelers-Titans Thoughts
2008-12-22 15:42:00
- Just for a little perspective, over the past four games, the Steelers won at New England, against Dallas and at Baltimore before losing Sunday at a 13-2 Tennessee team. If someone told you before stretch that the Steelers would go 3-1, I think you would be happy. - As for Sunday?s game, way too many turnovers for the Steelers. The Roethlisberger fumble inside the Titans' 5 was crucial. Even if the Steelers get a field goal there, it?s a different game. - What was the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when the Titans were preparing for a field goal attempt near the end of the third quarter? Who was it against?- Do we have a running game? Stop with the draw/delay plays to Parker. - Cleveland got shut out by the Bengals today as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw only 9 passes and Cedric Benson had 38 rushes for 171 yards. If the Steelers can't run against the Browns next week, we're going to be in trouble in the playoffs.- I think we've been spoiled over the past month or so by all of the t...
Steelers Win AFC North
2008-12-15 15:40:00
As a Steelers fan, it feels great seeing Pittsburgh win the AFC North and earn a first-round playoff bye at the expense of the Ravens, especially in Baltimore. Sunday?s game proves what I have been saying for years: contrary to what many Steelers fans believe, Pittsburgh?s biggest rival is clearly the Baltimore Ravens and not the Cleveland Browns. While it may be mean and a bit of schadenfreude, just looking at the picture below makes me, and I?m sure other Steelers fans, smile. The game itself lived up to the hype as both defenses dominated. Through the first 57 minutes, the Ravens outplayed the Steelers, particularly on special teams and in the defense?s ability to create turnovers. However, when the game was in question, the Steelers led by Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward and Nate Washington made big plays and the Ravens defense could not respond.Congratulations to the Steelers for winning the AFC North! The photo is from Jonathan Newton of The Washington Post after Baltimore ...

Steelers-Patriots Recap
2008-12-01 15:10:00
I?m going to do things a little different for this week?s Steelers recap. If you?re looking for detailed analysis about how the Pittsburgh held New England to 10 points and the Patriots offense to 1 of 13 on third down conversions or the punting abilities of Mitch Berger, go somewhere else. May I recommend the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Instead, I want to point out the following real and fictional New England Patriots players who contributed to the Steelers win.The turning point of the game occurred part-way through the third quarter. Leading 13-10 after a Jeff Reed field goal, Matthew "AC" Slater fumbled the kick-off, and the ball was recovered by Keyaron Fox. Two plays later, Ben Roethlisberger hit Hines Ward for an 11-yard touchdown.Maybe this wasn?t noticed by everyone, but Sam "Clay" Aiken had two special teams holding penalties for New England. After another Reed field goal to give the Steelers a 23-10 lead, the Patriots returned the kick-off to midfield. However, Aiken?s hold...
Steelers Questions
2008-11-18 15:54:00
Is James Harrison the first person in NFL history to be responsible for a safety for both his team and the opposing team in the same season? I can?t take credit for this question as I think Messiah asked this during our liveblog of the Steelers-Chargers game.Good question posed on DC Steeler Nation. Since the Steelers and Arizona Cardinals are both in first place and have identical 7-3 records, who would you rather as the coach of the Steelers: Mike Tomlin or Ken Whisenhunt? I may or may not share my answer later.Photo: Getty Images

The Hank Williams Jr. Experience
2008-10-29 16:25:00
I know very little about Hank Williams Jr., but I like him for two main reasons. First, the Monday Night Football theme based on his song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" is an incredible, pump-you-up song. Second, Williams is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. These may be shallow reasons to like Hank Williams Jr., but that works for me.However, I?m starting to get a little worried about Williams. He sang the national anthem during the Monday night game this week while wearing a Tennessee Titans jersey. I can?t say that I agree with him wearing a jersey other than a Steelers one, but I guess that he wanted to make a good impression for everyone in Nashville (even though you would think he would already be well received by Tennessee fans based on Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year awards and the Monday Night Football song). Unfortunately, this seems to be a trend for Williams. In the video below, Williams is shown wearing a Denver Broncos jersey and a Was...
Steelers-Giants Recap
2008-10-27 15:13:00
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a lead late in the fourth quarter at home and lost. Ben Roethlisberger was sacked five times, hit at least another dozen times and threw four interceptions. The team was 1 for 10 on third down, 0 for 4 on fourth down and had 8 penalties for 59 yards, many of them pretty stupid penalties. Plus, the Steelers defense who led the league in sacks coming into the game, failed to register a sack and rarely put pressure on Eli Manning. It was clearly not one of their best games. However, let?s take a step back and put everything into perspective. The Steelers are 5-2 and have a one game lead over Baltimore, who they already defeated, in the AFC North. The 5-2 record is tied for second best in the AFC with New England and Buffalo behind only the undefeated Tennessee Titans. The Steelers are 5-0 against AFC teams, a very important playoff tie-breaker, which along with the Titans, is the best in the conference. Yes, the team has some work to do, but there?s n...
Giants outlast Steelers
2008-10-27 00:44:00
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Giants loss to the Colts in the 1958 Title game. The Giants just completed a game with a victory that will eventually take it's place in the annals of history as one of the best regular season games ever to be played, miscues and all. It was truly a back and forth battle that saw The Giants PK John Carney(no relation to Art) boot 4 Field Goals and the Xtra Point after the winning TD. The Giants also Took 4 Interceptions away from the Steelers and Big Ben Roethlisberger, including the Steelers final offensive play of the game. The Giants defense also tallied 5 sacks and 9 Knockdowns on Big Ben. It was truly a clash of Titans, of 1 loss teams, and had been billed as a possible preview of Superbowl 43. While NY still does not look as "super" as they did in January but careful observers will tall you that Good teams find a way to win, and today, with the Steelers managing to slow the Giants offense and keep them out of the endzone until late in ...
Steelers-Jaguars Recap
2008-10-08 15:17:00
I?ll preface this post by writing that I have no idea what Al Michaels or John Madden said during Sunday night?s Pittsburgh Steelers-Jacksonville Jaguars game. I have not read recaps of the game by Pittsburgh newspapers, national sports websites or the Pittsburgh sports related blogs listed on my links list. The following are my comments, thoughts and pictures from attending the game live. This picture was taken a half hour before game time. Notice the large banner covering two sections on the top left and the Jaguars banner behind the end zone. Apparently, these seats and several other sections throughout the stadium are completely covered during the entire season to help the team avoid blackouts. That would never happen for the Steelers. Oh, Jacksonville has no problem selling these seats for the Florida-Georgia college football game.I really don?t know what to write about these guys. They were loud and somewhat annoying, but overall, pretty cool. Of course, I was not sitti...
What NFL Team Does Sarah Palin Support
2008-10-01 20:20:00
I have a problem with Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and it has nothing to do with her political views.* Perhaps you saw the three second clip of Palin jogging in a Donovan McNabb Philadelphia Eagles jersey. (If not, the video is below at the 3:11 mark and a picture is on the right.) First of all, besides actual football players, who actually jogs wearing a football jersey? Wouldn?t a T-shirt or Under Armor shirt be more comfortable? Let?s assume that because Pain is wearing a McNabb jersey in the video, she has some type of affinity for the Eagles. Does she only support the Eagles? Well, when I wrote last month that Joe Biden is a Steelers fan, Captain Easychord shared a July 2007 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article which showed that Palin is also a Steelers fan. So is she a Steelers fan, an Eagles fan, or both? This is where things get even more complex. Sarah Palin is also a member of the official Seattle Seahawks official fan club, the Seahawkers.** Super Bowl...
Random Thoughts
2008-09-23 15:20:00
I have a lot to write about, so don't mind me while I'm all over the place. - Based on my drive to New Jersey this weekend, I declare Maryland to be the new Delaware. It took me two hours and 15 minutes to get from Arlington, VA to the tunnel in Baltimore on Friday afternoon and there was Maryland traffic on Sunday. No traffic on either day in Delaware. Plus, gas is more expensive at the Maryland House rest stop than its counterparts in Delaware and New Jersey. - Two comments about the Steelers game and this is nothing new from what you have already read elsewhere. First, the offensive line, um, struggled. Second, I still question why Coach Mike Tomlin didn?t kick a field goal late in the fourth quarter when the Steelers needed two scores. I was yelling at the TV even before Phil Simms did. Tomlin?s reason from Monday?s Post-Gazette: "Absolutely not," Tomlin replied. "We did not move the ball consistently enough to say that had we kicked the field goal and got the onside kick ...
Greg Lloyd Redux
2008-09-18 16:16:00
You may remember the ebay auction several months ago where you could bid on the opportunity to have former Pittsburgh Steeler great Greg Lloyd come to your home to watch the Steelers-Browns game with you and a group of friends. Since the game took place this past Sunday, I thought I would contact of Josh Korb of Steel-Town Memorabilia, the person who posted this auction, to see the results.I'm curious as to how the idea to have Greg Lloyd watch the Steelers-Browns game at someone's house was created. Was this your idea? It was mine. I first thought of the idea after seeing that Peyton Manning direct tv add for NFL Sunday season ticket which got me thinking. Then after watching one of the Penguins playoffs game they showed Sidney Crosby hand delivering someones season tickets and knocking on there door. I saw the excitment on there face's thought what a great idea. I just put 2 and 2 together. Was Greg Lloyd easily willing to participate?Yes that was easy. I have been working...

Welcome to my live blog of the Pittsburgh Steelers-Cleveland Browns game. I am live from my couch with my Terrible Towel right next to me. I?ll be writing my thoughts about the game, and you are welcome to share your thoughts in the comments section below. Steelers-Browns and Other Stuff
2008-09-11 16:21:00
Before I write about this Sunday?s Steelers-Browns game, take a quick look at the date of this post. I can?t believe that it has been seven years since that horrific day. Please take a moment of silence or reflection today to remember those who lost their lives in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania seven years ago today.Thank you.I feel like it?s time to revisit my post from September 2007 when I wrote that the Pittsburgh Steelers-Cleveland Browns series is no longer a rivalry. Since returning to Cleveland in 1999, the Steelers are 16-3 against the Browns including the Wild Card round win during the 2002 season. The last time Cleveland defeated Pittsburgh was October 5, 2003. That?s not a rivalry. Until the Browns hire Bill Cowher, win the division or defeat the Steelers more than three times in nine years, it?s just another divisional game no more or no less important than the games against Baltimore or Cincinnati. Finally, when you have a few minutes, check out the following...

Monday Morning Links and Other Thoughts
2008-09-08 15:54:00
It?s so nice to have football back! To see the Steelers have an impressive season debut in defeating Houston. To know that there are games on for approximately 10 hours from Sunday early afternoon to Sunday night. To walk around the grocery store on a Sunday and see people wearing their football jerseys. (Although why was one guy wearing an A.J. Hawk Packers? jersey when the team doesn?t play until Monday?) To follow your fantasy football teams and hope that Terrell Owens can score big points while his quarterback Tony Romo does not (or worse to root for Reggie Bush for one league and against him in another). Welcome back professional football!Have you watched any football highlights from yesterday? If so, you may have noticed every announcer gushing over Brett Favre?s touchdown pass where he threw a terrible ball on a fourth down that somehow manager to find an open receiver. It?s only a matter of time (probably next week) when that same pass is intercepted. On to the links?...
Joe Biden is a Steelers Fan

I knew there was a reason why I liked Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden. From The Washington Post (near the end of the article):On Friday night, when Obama and Biden met Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh, Biden recounted how "Old Mr. Rooney" -- Steelers owner Dan Rooney -- dispatched some players from his championship team to the hospital room in Wilmington where Biden's two toddler sons, Beau and Hunter, were recovering from the accident. They brought the boys an autographed football as a Christmas present. "And I have been a Steelers fan since that day," Biden told Tomlin.I?m wondering whether The Washington Post meant Art Rooney. Regardless, it was a nice thing for the Steelers to do.(from The Burgh Blog)The Washington Times has more about Mike Tomlin?s interaction with Barack Obama and Joe Biden."You've brightened what has been a miserable day," Tomlin told Obama. "I had to cut 23 guys this morning. Hardest day of the year."Obama told Tomlin, "Your own...
Weekend Links
2008-08-31 15:14:00
If you?re looking to waste a little time during this holiday weekend, I?m here to help with these links:There?s an entire video dedicated to Sean?s Ramblings for President. Unfortunately, the staff left a ?/? in the graphics. Consider them fired! Is anyone really surprised that the Steelers have the NFL?s best fans according to ESPN?It looks like I made a good decision to see Neil Diamond in Washington as opposed to Columbus.Since the Big Dig worked so well in Boston, there is talk of having one in Reston, Virginia too.Congratulations to Ithaca College senior Revital ("Revi") Roza for winning Good Morning America?s intern superstar contest.I?m a few days late to this but Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies interviews the Post-Gazette?s Bob Smizik. Finally, don?t forget to enter the Ted Marshall Open Television Death Pool. Entries must be submitted by tonight (August 31, 2008) at 11:59pm Eastern time.
Steelers and Redskins Fans Wanted
2008-07-29 16:45:00
The new Emeril Green show airing on Planet Green is looking for Redskins fans to appear on the show to cook tailgating food with Chef Emeril Lagasse. If you are interested, send an email to foodshowcasting@gmail.com and be sure to include the following: name, address, occupation, age, and a little bit of info on what your current tailgating meal includes. I was told that the show is looking for Redskins fans because the show is taped "in the DC area so we need someone who is local." Regardless, if you?re a Steelers fan or a fan of another NFL team, you have my approval to send them an e-mail.Meanwhile, Mosser Casting is seeking Steelers fans as extras for the short film Tommy and Me on Saturday, August 9 at Heinz Field. There is no pay, but they will have BYO tailgate afterwards. However, you can?t just show up; you need to contact Ray Werner, the creator of the film, in advance. Ray needs your name, and you need information of where to go, how to dress (lots of black and gold...
Steelers Trivia
2008-07-08 13:48:00
I received a Pittsburgh Steelers calendar as a gift last December which proudly sits on my office desk. It is a daily calendar which alternates between a Steelers fact and a Steelers trivia question. Unfortunately, the calendar seems to focus on a Steeler player drafted recently and spends at least a week on this individual. I feel like I know more about Marvin Philip and Trai Essex than most people should. Last week?s featured player: Clark Haggans.July 2: Linebacker Clark Haggans began his college career at Colorado State as a walk-on defensive end before going on to become the school?s all-time sacks leader.July 3: Steelers linebackers Clark Haggans and Joey Porter were college teammates. At what school did they play together?Really? Besides the fact that Joey Porter hasn?t been on the Steelers since the 2006-2007 season, does the maker of the calendar really think you have no short-term memory? Even if you didn?t know that Haggans attended Colorado State, I would hope tha...

Take That Detroit (Lions)

MJD at Yahoo compiled a list of the coolest helmets in football history. The Pittsburgh Steelers placed first as you probably suspected (since I wouldn?t write a post about the Cleveland Browns or Baltimore Ravens helmet). Anyway, here are a few fun facts from the article:? It's the only professional helmet to use a logo that was once a corporate logo before it became a football team logo (other than the short-lived and now defunct Miami Hooters of the Arena Football league).? It is the only helmet in the NFL to have a logo on one side, but not the other.? There are two colors present in the helmet logo that exist nowhere else in the Steelers uniform: red and blue.
In The Red Zone: Patriots Sign Lineman
2008-06-03 12:00:00
The New England Patriots signed free agent offensive tackle Oliver Ross to a contract Monday. The 33-year old Ross who is 6-foot-4 and 327 pounds has played with the Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers and Cardinals. He has played in 89 career games but missed last season after being placed on the IR with a torn left triceps ...
State of the Franchise: The Pittsburgh Steelers
2008-05-22 21:30:00
After reaching the pinnacle of the NFL mountain by winning the Super Bowl at the end of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers succumbed to a hangover more accustomed to afflicting the losing team in a Super Bowl. Their 2006 season was vastly inferior and they failed to make the playoffs. Ben
Pittsburgh Sports Update
2008-04-27 16:08:00
If I wrote only a Pittsburgh sports blog, I would be required to discuss the Steelers draft. Since I don?t write a Pittsburgh sports blog, I don?t have to mention that I was surprised to see the Steelers select Illinois running back Rashard Mendenhall. I would express a concern that maybe Willie Parker?s recovery from a broken right fibula is not going that well. I would write that Najeh Davenport?s career as a Pittsburgh Steeler could be over. However, I would also state that I saw Mendenhall play in several games last season and he is an explosive running back who is fun to watch. Even if Willie Parker is 100%, Mendenhall can certainly take some carries away from Parker to give him rest for the entire season and playoffs. The Parker-Mendenhall combination could be one of the best running back tandems in the NFL. Although I would have liked to have seen the Steelers draft an offensive or defensive lineman in the first or second round, the team drafted two players, Mendenhall...

Steelers Gear in Seattle
2008-04-04 13:14:00
My Seattle vacation is only days away, but I have not started packing for the trip. However, after reading this article from last week, I may not bring any Steelers gear:A 24-year-old South Kitsap man ? and self-proclaimed Seattle Seahawks fan ? was arrested Sunday for allegedly spitting on the hamburger he prepared for a man wearing Pittsburgh Steelers attire, according to Kitsap County Sheriff's Office reports.Deputies said the 37-year-old man in Steelers garb took his daughters to a Mile Hill Drive fast food restaurant Saturday evening, and "began trading friendly barbs about his team and their victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL," reports said. One employee told the man that he'd "better not say that to the guy that's making your food," but the man thought it was a joke, reports said. That is, until he opened his "clamshell-style" hamburger container and discovered what he called a "loogie" on his hamburger. The 37-year-old told his daughters to stop eating, dema...

Lord, Give Me Strength To Slap This Ho In The Mouth?.Amen
2008-03-25 01:19:00
So, earlier this offseason Steelers linebacker James Harrison got arrested for roughing up his girlfriend. Not much longer after that his team mate Cedrick Wilson was also arrested for domestic violence. Wilson was eventually fired from the team, but Harrison was not. I’m sure you can understand why, Harrison is a star linebacker and Wilson ...
Steelers vs. Redskins 2008
2008-03-18 12:06:00
Since the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field during the 2008 NFL season, I thought I would contact the Redskins to see if there were any group ticket sales. Between the number of transplanted Pittsburghers I know in the DC area, the number of friends and family who would travel from Pittsburgh and beyond to attend a Steelers game and the few friends that I have who are actually Redskins fans, I figured that I could easily find enough people to qualify for a group. So I called the Redskins and asked if they had group tickets available. They did. Great success! So here is what the group package for 25 people entails:- All you can eat- All you can drink (pop and/or alcohol)- Pregame field passes- Box or suite seats (I couldn?t remember what the sales manager told me)All of this for just $800! What an amazing deal! Oh wait, the group deal is $800 per person or a grand total of $20000. In that case, I think I?ll pass. The Redskins representative...

The Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues...This was going to be up early Sunday morning, but instead I felt the urge to tell everyone how much I love Hank Steinbrenner. With pick number 23 coming off the board, and my genius idea to merge both Cowboys picks into one column, I?m actually starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As one of my biggest fans has suggested in the comments section of a few of these, I?ll soon be able to stop clogging up his Google News with my draft articles! Huzzah! Pick No. 23: Pittsburgh SteelersThe Pittsburgh Steelers spent the entire 2007 NFL season hovering in and out of the NFL?s elite. For the fi...
