2008-03-16 20:01:00 On this second entry of song surgery I like to go a bit deeper on Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?†a song that despite the simple idea behind it by Black Francis sounds too much psychedelic to pass it on easily. This song is included on the Pixies first LP Surfer Rosa in 1988 on track seven. Pixies never gained enough publicity to go mainstream but they have remained underground legends and have inspired many bands for having a revolutionary effect on 90s alternative and grunge scene (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Foo Foghters, etc). The song was widely welcomed when it was heard in the ending scene of David Fincher’s Fight Club. 2007-12-22 03:14:00 I finally got a laptop today so I will no doubt be posting a lot more frequently then usual, assuming that I have something to talk about. I was watching Fight Club the other day for the first time and this was one of those songs that is impossible to ignore. After realizing that I just watched a better than average movie, I went straight to Google to try to figure out what was the song that was playing at the end of the movie as the buildings fell. Without much effort I found out that it was called "Where Is My Mind?". This is a song off of the album Surfer Rosa by a band called Pixies. Released just a little before my time in March of 1988, the album has reached critical acclaim throughout the world. Kurt Cobain has cited Surfer Rosa as the basis for Nevermind's songwriting. When the intensely popular movie, Fight Club, was released in 1999, it sparked a resurgence in interest in Pixies' music. 2007-11-27 15:24:00 Vaya por delante que no me gustan nada los tributos pero que, desde que hizo su aparición el p2p, sà suelo escucharlos. Son los tÃpicos discos que (salvando excepciones de las que en breve hablaré) se escuchan una vez, se sacan conclusiones y luego se abandonan. Asà que no, no recomiendo la compra de Dig For Fire, ni siquiera para completistas de los Pixies. Pero ¿deja la iniciativa algo especial, algo digno de mención, algo que se salga de la norma? Pues algo de eso hay, aunque tampoco mucho, para que nos vamos a engañar. La mayorÃa de las versiones optan por el respeto excesivo y sólo cambian un par de arreglos o le meten algo más de electricidad o quizás unas acústicas. En serio: ¿qué sentido tiene hacer una copia de la original? Si por lo menos los regalasen, pues vale: agradecerÃa la intención de los grupos de dejar claro que quieren mucho a la banda original y punto. Vamos a lo estrictamente salvable del tributo a los Pixies, sea por lo raro o por lo direct...
