Under this, each consumer would get eight cylinders at the current subsidised rate of about Rs 300 and any extra cylinder would be delivered at the market price (Rs 650, given that Rs 350 is the subsidy.) The proposal, hammered after weeklong political parleys, suggests a price increase of Rs 3 per litre on petrol and Rs 2 on diesel while keeping kerosene and LPG prices unchanged. This would garner Rs 11,855 crore for state-run oil marketing companies that are likely to lose Rs 225,000 crore during the current fiscal because of high global crude oil prices.
