Plans, plans...and no action yet?
2008-09-22 02:14:00 I'm beginning to wonder when I can finally get my first business plan in years to get going: a fitness studio-- modest little business, no doubt-- that should set me back a couple of hundred Ks to get things moving forward, considering all the equipment, rentals and other overheads.I won't deny that I have other more ambitious business ideas, including an office building (yes, crazy as it sounds), and I won't deny too that I would very much like to set the chain of all my ideas in motion, even with one small investment...except I'm wondering if now is the right time to do so, given a global financial meltdown that's threatening any business ambitions and just waiting to happen. It's a matter of time, isn't it?Of course, there will be advantages to starting up my plans at this time: if my gut feel isn't wrong, rental prices should fall soon enough, even in Singapore where the economic repercussions would be somewhat buffered; and not to mention other overhead costs that would...

Why 401(k) Retirement Plans Really Don?t Work
2008-09-02 07:48:00 by Steve Selengut The good news about the Internet is the information we can get our cursors on instantly; the bad news is the information we can get our heads around instantly, but without any way of gauging accuracy, relevance, or completeness. This is particularly evident in the financial-investment-retirement- world, where thousands of websites tell us ...

2008-09-01 09:18:00 Actresses may insist that it is a male dominated world, yet one look at SHAMITA SHETTY and her glamorous sister, Shilpa, would make it apparent that women in Bollywood are having their cake and eating it too.Shamita Shetty, who is just back from London, gushes about switching tracks and turning producer, and also tells NT why she is being choosy about her roles.Ask her what is keeping her busy these days and Shamita says, ?I’m concentrating on my career and reading some scripts.? Residents of Dwarka oppose DDA's Plans to develop Megacities
2008-08-22 07:30:00 The Dwarka Forum - a collective of residents from residential complexes and the Dwarka Kshetra Gram (DKGK), a group of 20 villages have asked the DDA to put on hold its expansion plans, keeping in mind the depleting water table and shrinking water sources. These residents have joined forces to oppose Delhi government?s move to add five new townships to the city. "Dwarka does not even get half of the water that it should. Villages around Dwarka are dependent on tube-well water. There is no piped-water from the Delhi Jal Board for them and they are forced to use unfit tube-well water. It is impractical to increase the city limits," said Mr. Diwan Singh, a member of the Dwarka Forum.

Big Plans to BAN Size 0 Models Comes to an END.
2008-08-15 18:56:00 "Oh well! The whole 'ban on skinny models' thing that we had planned isn't really working, sooo we're just gonna go ahead and scrap that whole idea..." That's basically what this article says in a nutshell. Unbelievable. An initiative to banish "size zero" models from Britain's catwalks has been abandoned after other fashion capitals refused to follow London's lead. The planned requirement for models to obtain a doctor's certificate proving that they were in good health had stong government support. But it was feared that models would boycott London Fashion Week, and New York, Paris and Milan said that the measure was unworkable.Hilary Riva, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, will confirm that the scheme is being dropped in an open letter to the industry today.Ms Riva blamed impracticalities in implementing the health certificate plan, a feeling among models that it discriminated against them and a lack of support from industry bodies in the other fashion capita...

With thousands of web hosting companies available here on internet, it has become so dilemmatic to choose for the one which is cheap as well as the best. Generally the web hosting sites which has a strong back links and high page rank rules up in the market. Even though their price and services may not be as better as some other hosting companies with less popularity, still people do tend to purchase hosting from them. It's just due to lack of proper information about the features provided by the web hosting companies customers are unable to find the right choice for them. 99.9% uptime is the most essential feature any one should look for. Even if for once your site goes down, it may lead to a set-back of your site In terms of potential visitors as well as the image of site.

Ford losses 8.7 Billion - and accelerates transformation plans
2008-07-24 16:05:00 Ford announced an enormous loss today for the 2nd quarter. The loss was larger than expected at $8.7B. Ford also announced that it is accelerating the move to small cars by stating that a total of 6 small vehicles form Europe would be manufactured in the Americas for our market. Only 3 of the vehicles were named: Fiesta, Focus, and Transit and these three had already all been announced. Two of the remaining three will probably be crossovers, and the third is speculated to be the Mondeo. However, the Mondeo overlaps with the Fusion - so how Ford will work this out remains to be seen. An updated Fusion will also come out next year, with enhanced engines and a hybrid powerplant for the first time. Past examples of European Fords brought to North America were all de-contented from their European counterparts. The European Mondeo for example, was an up-market product in Europe but was de-contented for North America as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique. Now that small cars are impor...

Letter - Living Room plans worry south end residents
2008-07-09 00:35:00 The following is a letter I've written to the local papers about VIHAs plan to couple transitional housing with a failed addictions program. I have some experience working in this area.- - -VIHA's Living Room attempts appear disorganized and remind some south end residents of a salesperson trying to remarket the same old failed product. Unfortunately, we are the ones who have been paying for VIHA?s learning curve. The past incarnations of the Living Room, as hard as they were to manage, were in commercial areas. Now they want to put it in the middle of a residential neighborhood, adjacent to transition housing for those trying to get away from the street. Is there some study showing this might actually work, or was this decision simply motivated by dollars and cents? At the south end community meeting, a VIHA spokesperson said, ?we see it as a good thing to have the Living Room coupled with the residence.? No study was offered to back that up. Does the VIHA operate on gut feeling an...
In Other Words ~ His Plans
2008-07-01 04:14:00  This has been one of those “hang on to†verses through the ups and downs of life. But it became more real to me through a recent Bible study of Abraham. There’s so much I could share that touched me but re-visiting Abraham’s life, seeing the mistakes he made, and yet, seeing God stay with His covenant with him. God did indeed know the plans He had for him, and it was certainly to take care of him. And He did for us way back then too as we see the imprint of the coming of Jesus, His death on the cross, through Abraham. The picture of Abraham’s son, Isaac carrying the wood of the sacrifice up Mt. Moriah is an image of Jesus carrying wood, the cross on His back. The ram caught in the thicket was not the real sacrifice. It took place later. It was instead the Lamb of God, God’s son, not Abraham’s son. Yet Jesus know that His sacrifice would cost His life - and His sacrifice accomplished what no other kind of sacrifice could even come cl...

Big Calif. land bankruptcy won’t hit Lennar’s O.C. plans
2008-06-09 19:28:00 Lennar’s Aliso Viejo office, home to the Miami-based builder’s West Coast operations, played a role in arranging the bankruptcy filing of major California land owner LandSource. But LandSource’s woes should not impact Lennar’s plans for El Toro and Tustin airbases in O.C. LandSource, troubled by $1 billion in debts and a sick housing market, was created by Lennar to own some of its California projects (such as Newhall Park north of LA and the Mare Island military base near San Francisco) plus property in Ariziona, Florida, Texas and New Jersey. Please note that Lennar’s interests in the El Toro and Tustin airbases in O.C. were not in LandSource. (Read Register reporter Jeff Collins’ story on Lennar and the Great Park HERE!) Lennar sold off 68% of LandSource in early 2007 to a partnership funded in good part by the CalPERS state pension money. The price? $900 million. A spokesman said that Lennar, now a 16% owner of LandSource, is not responsible f...

Delay plans on Voting for Barr
2008-06-08 11:58:00 Tom DeLay's wife plans to vote against McCain Tom DeLay NEWSMAKER INTERVIEW Tom DeLay will vote for John McCain but the former House Republican leader said his wife, Christine, is planning to vote for Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr. "I'm trying to convince my wife not to do that," the Texas Republican told editors and reporters at The Washington Times on Friday. "She said it publicly yesterday." Mr. Barr's candidacy is an issue conservatives appear to be grappling with since he won the Libertarian party's nomination on the sixth ballot at their May 25 convention in Denver. Early polls suggest Mr. Barr could draw small but significant support in key states such as Georgia and North Carolina, potentially complicating the electoral picture for Mr. McCain, Republicans' presumed presidential nominee. Some conservative leaders are expressing their concern over Mr. Barr's appeal to Republicans who say they don't want to vote for Mr. McCain. They list a host of probl...

Big Plans for the Stimulus Check? Uh, Not so Much
2008-06-06 13:55:00 According to the IRS letter I received last week we should be getting a stimulus check pretty soon.
