Toyota considering shifting Camry production to Indiana truck plant
2008-06-07 05:00:00 Toyota considering shifting Camry production to Indiana truck plant In the wake of America's mass exodus from large trucks and SUVs, Toyota is considering shifting production of its efficient Camry to its Indiana truck plant. Toyota sold 51,291 Camrys last month while Tundra sales slipped 31.5 percent. The future of the Indiana plant — which produces the Toyota Tundra pickup, Sequoia SUV and Sienna minivan — has been up in the air for several months now. Earlier reports suggest that Toyota would move Tundra production exclusively to its new plant in San Antonio, Texas, with the latest reports indicating Toyota would export vehicles made at its Indiana plant. The move to produce Camrys at its truck plant would seem to be a smart one for Toyota. Not only would it allowed Toyota to maximize its production capacity, but it would give the Japanese automaker a third U.S. Camry plant at a time when demand for fuel-efficient vehicles is on the rise. We're pretty...

JTC to plant more trees in Tuas to help companies cut energy costs
2008-06-05 02:54:00 JTC to plant more trees in Tuas to help companies cut energy costs By Valarie Tan, SINGAPORE: JTC Corporation will plant more trees in Tuas to help companies there cut energy costs, the company revealed at its tree-planting event at the Tuas Biomedical Park on Wednesday. It said a joint study with the National University of Singapore showed that areas with more greenery experience cooler temperatures. Shade from trees and rooftop greenery can bring down temperatures in buildings by nearly five degrees, which suggests that well-shaded buildings could see energy savings of more than 25 per cent. JTC is now looking at planting trees at strategic locations in Tuas View as a pilot project. - CNA/ac  Source : Channel NewsAsia - 05 jun 2008 Singapore Property - Buy, Sell, Rent, Invest Mindy Yong (+65)91002985 mindy@mindyyong.com
CAW workers blockade GM?s Canadian HQ in protest of plant closure
2008-06-04 19:58:00 CAW workers blockade GM's Canadian HQ in protest of plant closure General Motors union workers affected by the automaker's decision to close four truck and SUV plants continue to voice their displeasure as CAW members blocked the entrance to GM of Canada's headquarters in Oshawa, Ontario. General Motors announced Tuesday at its annual meeting that it would be shuttering the doors of four of its truck and SUV plants due to sagging demand — including its Oshawa truck plant. In addition to the loss of about 2,600 jobs, the CAW is upset because it feels GM broke a recently inked agreement to keep the Oshawa plant open. "We are going to stay here until General Motors reverses the decision they made yesterday, or at the very least commits to a product for the Oshawa truck plant, or sits down face-to-face with this union to try to explain why they have broken our brand new agreement," Chris Buckley, of the Canadian Auto Workers union, told Automotive News...
Indonesian couples told to plant trees before marrying
2008-06-04 14:00:00 PROSPECTIVE newlyweds in an Indonesian province are being given one more promise to honour: planting trees to help slow the rapid deterioration of the country's forests. As Indonesia marks World Environment Day on Thursday, husbands- and brides-to-be in Gorontalo, a rugged mountainous province on Sulawesi island, are being required to plant 10 seedlings supplied by the local government, said Mr Hasyim Alidrus, head of the religious affairs office. It is part of a nationwide 're-greening' initiative launched by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Bali Conference in Bali last November when million of trees were planted across the vast archipelago. The program, critics say, is largely symbolic in a nation that is losing its forests at one of the fastest rates in the world due to illegal logging, mining, new oil palm plantations and slash-and-burn land clearing. Mississippi Toyota Plant Pushed Back To 2010
2008-06-01 11:39:00 This is a recent photo of the new Toyota Plant in Blue Springs Mississippi. Rumors are that the plant opening has been pushed back to 2010 because top executives see a slow down in US Auto Sales.Car Sales in the US have changed in dynamics due to rising gas prices. Many factories are switching line workers from truck assembly plants to car assembly to meet increased demand in fuel effecient vehicles. The only way to lower fuel prices is to lower our consumption of oil. Many are urging drivers to car pool when possible, make one trip to post office-grocery store-etc., trade that gas guzzler if possible. Many are trying to trade their deisel's, big trucks, SUV's, and gas guzzling vehicles. But, are finding that nobody wants these vehicles right now and that has driven the price very low. The demand is down and so are the trade in values. You may find you owe way more than a dealer is willing to give you for the vehicle. In this case you have to figure is it worth trading or are you sp...
Worker at GM plant fired over Camaro photo leak
2008-06-01 03:57:00 Worker at GM plant fired over Camaro photo leak An electrician working at General Motors' Oshawa Assembly Plant lost his job this past week after company officials linked him to the leak of several photos showing a prototype Camaro body shell. The photos found their way onto the internet May 22nd and were published by multiple major automotive websites, including Leftlane. Details of the leak come via a source within the plant, who claims to have intimate knowledge of the controversy. According to our tipster, the employee — who has 28 years seniority — used a camera phone to take pictures of the body to show to his children at home. Unfortunately for the unidentified employee, friends of his children got ahold of the photos and distributed them on the Web. It's not known exactly what the photos depict, but it appears GM might be starting to test the assembly process at the Oshawa, Ontario plant, where the Camaro (and other Zeta-platform variants...

The 2009 model represents the seventh-generation Maxima and promises to be the best iteration to date. The Maxima is built on Nissan's D platform, which is said to improve handling and virtually eliminate torque steer associated with high-horsepower front-wheel drive cars — a good thing considering the '09 Maxima has 290 ponies on tap. Nissan launched the Maxima in the U.S. in 1981 and claims that 80 percent of those vehicles are still on the road today. According to Just-Auto, Nissan plans to ship about 3,600 Maximas in the fiscal year 2008, with sales beginning later this year.

Ford truck diesel engine supplier to idle plant
2008-05-24 00:43:00 Ford truck diesel engine supplier to idle plant The Indianapolis-based International Truck and Engine Corp. plant that supplies diesel engines for Ford's F-250, F-350 and F-450 and Super Duty truck will temporarily close, due to the automaker scaling back production of the full-size trucks. Yesterday, Ford announced even more cuts, though those did not have any bearing on the engine supplier's closure, which starts today. The supplier was already due to close for maintenance in the first two weeks of July, according to company spokesperson Roy Wiley in an Automotive News report. While it's not known if the supplier will take the time to perform the maintenance now and remain open in July, it is doubtful, as the decision would be a last-minute one. The plant supplies Ford's Louisville, Kentucky truck plant, which builds the F-series pickup trucks.

American Axle contract approval down to last, biggest plant
2008-05-22 21:38:00 American Axle contract approval down to last, biggest plant The near three-month old American Axle worker strike that crippled GM's truck and SUV production capabilities, along with passenger car production to a lesser extent, could be over later on today. The proposed contract that would slash the UAW workers' wages at the supplier is going to a vote at American Axle's main Detroit plant, with smaller Axle facilities already endorsing it. This past Friday, the UAW and American Axle agreed on a four-year contract involving plant closings and huge wage cuts. Part of the agreement includes worker buyouts, retirements and cash buydowns, according to Automotive News. Some of the cuts include lowering hourly wages to between $10 and $26, eliminating some holidays, senior workers losing a week's paid vacation, and reduced shift premiums. Eligible workers who stay and accept the new terms would receive payments of up to $105,000 paid over three years. If the contra...

The Fairfax facility produces GM's hot-selling Chevrolet Malibu, but has been idle since Local 31 went on strike on May 5. According to Automotive News, the biggest disagreement in contract talks has been over "the role of seniority in job placement." Through the first four months of the year, Malibu sales were up 18 percent while GM's overall sales were down 12 percent.

Springtime is Plant Upkeep Time
2008-05-21 04:49:00 Springtime is Plant Upkeep Time Spring is usually considered a time of fresh beginnings and rebirth. For plants it is a very active period as they arise from their winter nap. For gardeners this is a very active stage for not only outdoor plants but our house plants as well. Spring is the ideal time for house plant maintenance. Fertilizing plants in the spring and summer periods will give the best results. A beneficial rule of thumb to call upon when fertilizing is that less really is more. Don't fertilize a plant that has just been re-potted for a few months or a new plant just brought home from the nursery. The fertilizer nutrients are already in a nursery plant and the fresh soil of a re-potted plant. I also evaluate my plants in the spring to determine if they need re-potting. There are 3 basic methods to tell if your house plant needs re-potting: * If the roots are protruding out of the drainage hole. * If the roots have completely filled the pot and are sprouting around in ...
