wikado playground opened!
2008-12-09 00:59:00 The Wikado playground was opened 10 October.This playground is designed with 5 windmill wings and the existing trees on site as a starting point. 4 off the 30 meter long polyester wings are cut into towers and laying objects. The composition of these big accessible volumes defines the different areas of the playground. Each tower has its own character: watchtower (with two f-16 cockpits on top) slide-tower (with two reused slides from the old play-garden) water-tower and 'apartment tower. In the 'cage' that is defined by the towers and the nets the kids can play football on a floor made of recycled football shoes. 2008-04-15 16:56:00 More on summer safety! Playground accidents are the leading cause of injury to children in elementary school. Each year, in the United States, approximately 150,000 children ages five to 14 go to the emergency room with accidental injuries involving playground equipment -- and three out of four playground accidents occur on public playgrounds, including school facilities, as opposed to backyard play equipment. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the ground should be covered 12 inches deep with shredded rubber, hardwood fiber mulch or fine sand, extending at least six feet in all directions around the equipment. This lessens the chances that severe injury occurs WHEN a child falls. I say when, because they will fall. Medical experts say that I child who falls more than 10 feet risks spinal cord injury, paralysis and/or death. These guidelines apply to all types of playgrounds, home, school and parks. Hubby looked out the balcony once again to see what the commotion was all about. This time he was all ready to go downstairs should it be a similar incident.However, it was some drunks sitting around in the dark, making lots of noises and singing at the top of their lungs. They must think they are on American Idol or something. I told hubby I hope the guards downstairs would call on the cops again and haul them all the police station for creating such commotion in the middle of night. Send them all to the alcohol rehab center or something. So irritating!Still cheerful though..
