Podcasting - Dead or Alive?
2008-05-01 22:53:00 A recent Information Week article asks the question - Is podcasting dead?. The article cites that “there is no easy way to sample podcasts without an excessive and irretrievable investment of time” as the reason that podcasting hasn’t taken off. Lets look at the numbers to see if podcasting is indeed dying a death. eMarketer estimates that the total US audience for podcasts reached 18.5 million in 2007 and is expected to grow by 251% by 2012. These statistics hardly reflect the death throes of a dying medium but the growth rate isn’t exactly stellar if you compare it to other web 2.0 technologies. The reason for its slow adoption rate is indeed, as Alexander Wolfe of Information Week suggests, a result of podcast complexity. And this doesn’t only apply to users. New Experiences In Podcasting 3
2008-04-08 16:15:00 I bet you’ve been dying to find out how I finally managed to get the podcast up last week. It was no easy feat let me tell you…. I got several responses to my request for tips. One very intuitive one was to use iTunes to reduce the size of the file. Choose Preferences and Advanced and Importing (click on custom to set the rate) in iTunes should get you there then Advanced and save as to complete the process. Too simple perhaps - alas the file was too gargantuan. The final resolution? I ended up using ftp to post the podcast directly on to the website server and then link to it from there. And I claim to not be a propeller head… Along the way I also learnt that iChat can be very useful for supporting podcasts over the Internet. And received some great tips on how to make the podcast experience better for the user: more juicy stuff for you to look forward to in future New Experiences in Podcasting as I put these suggestions into action (or try to at least).

WordPress Podcasting Update
2008-04-03 17:43:00 It looks like WordCamp Dallas destroyed the podcasting schedule of both the WordPress Podcast, as Charles was the organizer of the Dallas event, and Jeff’s WordPress Weekly, who seems to be backed up sorting through all the media that was recorded. It looks like the event was great, now I just wish they’d record some audio reflecting on their time at the first WordCamp in Texas. Here’s hoping that this week or next, we see some new WordPress related audio published, or I will have to start doing my own podcast on the subject. 2008-04-03 16:45:00 Recently I have started another sort of media broadcast other than video. I recently did 2 interviews with 2 great people on PPC Marketing and Being Passionate about your Niche. Both these interviews were not my standard email interviews. I actually spoke to these people live and we had a great discussion and interview. I decided to dive into podcasting after Affiliate Summit West. The reason for this is because I wanted to be more interactive than just the standard text. Text interview becomes boring - there is no interaction. Standard text can not be very interactive; you can not jump in and over discuss a specific topic or go into greater detail. Podcasting gives me the chance to learn more about the person, as if we are talking to each other over a drink. With podcasting I can ask the generic question then go into greater detail on a specific topic they may have brought up. 2008-04-03 00:01:00 Podcasting is not as easy as I had anticipated - as I mentioned in my last post, but there are some gems of simplicity out there that give me hope. Â One such gem is Levelator: a tool that adjusts the audio levels within a podcast. Â You’d use it if you have a recording of an interview where one person is talking louder than the other - the software (as the name suggests) levels the audio so that both speakers sound the same. Everything should be as simple to use as Levelator. Â Simply drag and drop a WAV file to the Levelator window. It sets to work automatically and spits out a new levelated audio file. Â I love it. Now on to the frustrating side of my podcasting experience. Â I finally have the Garageband application sussed, I know how to use it somewhat effectively. Â Wouldn’t you like to share the Podcasting learning process I am going through it so that when its your turn you can learn from my mishaps? Â This week I recorded the first podcast interview on the hop in a coffee shop near the beach, lots of background noise and all. Â I was trying out a Belkin plugin for my iPod which worked like a dream. Â Sound was great, the process to record and upload was all automated and very simple - perfect. Â Podcasting couldn’t be easier. I was lulled into a false sense of security however. Â The problems began when I tried to do some editing with Garageband. Extremely Easy Podcasting with Cinch
2008-02-19 09:36:00 Cinch is a very easy way for a blogger to create interesting Podcasts with no equipment of any kind except for a phone. Follow the instructions below (or as on their website) to test it out quickly for yourself. Call (646) 200-0000 from any phone (You have to know the number/callerID of this phone, Skype would probably not work) Thats it! BlogTalkRadio puts out a podcast feed with an MP3 at a pre-defined URI. Just visit http://cinch.blogtalkradio.com/-number_you_called_from  (replace number_you_called_from with your phone number) Use some sort of a plugin for WordPress to import the said feed into your blog and you be podcastin’! The only major drawback I see is the phone number at the end of the RSS URI. Since this would probably be exposed over the web, if I were concerned about my phone number, this method would not work for me.
