Ohio State to assume #1 Position in College Hoops Polls
2011-01-17 02:07:00 The great American poet Cornell Haynes once posed this existential query: "What does it take to be #1, two is not a winner, and three nobody remembers." In slightly more recent history, another local wordsmith named Kanye West stated "number one can't put nothing above that. You deserve a verse from me, we're going to party like it's our anniversary." Today, the Ohio State Buckeyes, among favorites to win the Big Ten, now looking like serious contenders for a national title, are living these lyrics. With the Florida State upset over Duke, the polls will later today deem the Buckeyes the new rulers of college basketball....

Northwestern climbing in the polls
2010-12-08 01:42:00 I'm going to make Tuesday "poll day" on Chicago College Basketball. If you missed my post on the Mid-Major Top 25 check it out here. The Northwestern Wildcats are 5-0 and beginning to get some national recognition. Thanks to victories over Georgia Tech and Creighton, they finally have the ammunition to start trying to move up in the national rankings. Now, a Top 25 ranking might not seem that important in December, but it's actually more valuable in terms of program exposure than you might think. If you're in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 you appear in the scoreboard on the top of ESPN every night for everyone, not just fans of the program. You also show up sooner on the bottom...

Is the Tea Party trying to keep black voters from the polls?
2010-11-01 18:00:00 I recently saw a hilarious sketch at Second City. At a polling place on election day, an election official informed voters that voting had been privatized by the Tea Party, and because of that, they were required to take a literacy test in order to vote. White voters, even the crazy, shirtless, drunken ones, were passed through on easy questions, where as minority voters were given ridiculously hard ones. It doesn't seem quite as funny to me anymore, as I read headlines of Tea Party activists organizing to intimidate and suppress votes this election day, particularly those of minority voters. ...

In slightly more recent history, another local wordsmith named Kanye West stated "number one can't put nothing above that. LP Monday Message: Candidates, Campaigns, Polls, Fundraising
2010-09-21 04:35:00 LP Monday Message: Candidates, Campaigns, Polls, Fundraising posted by Staff on Sep 20, 2010 September 20, 2010 Dear Friend of Liberty, We have a great slate of over 800 Libertarian candidates for the upcoming November elections. Many of them are looking for more coverage on our website, in our emails, and in LP News. They want publicity, donations and help. That's a good thing. Unfortunately, there's just too much information about our candidates for us to convey directly. And even though there are probably a hundred candidates around the country who would be happy to email all Libertarians nationwide each week, we know that you might not appreciate getting that much unsolicited email. We have to rely on our state and local affiliates to provide announcements about the campaigns. I also encourage you to seek out candidates you might be interested in, and get more information. You can visit all 800 candidates listed here. Some of them have websites with email announcements ...
Polls, Huckabee in Brady's Favor as November Looms
2010-09-01 23:57:00 After Labor Day, it begins. The political fortunes of sitting Gov. Pat Quinn and his GOP challenger Bill Brady will be decided in just 63 days. As it stands right now, though, things are looking too good for Gov. Quinn despite all of his best efforts. In a recent Rasmussen poll, released on August 23, Brady was besting Quinn, 46% to 37% with 6% preferring another candidate. Add to that the anti-incumbency, throw-the-bums-out mood of the electorate and the endorsements of the Illinois Manufacturers Association and the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce and it appears that Illinois may be in a Brady-state-of mind. Then there's this. A new report by the Civic Federation of Chicago, a non-partisan research group,...

Dodd And the Polls
2009-02-11 17:49:00 I can’t say that I’m sorry at all to see a new Quinnipiac University poll, that reports Chris Dodd is in even more serious electoral trouble than we thought before: Â A total of 42 percent of voters say they “definitely” or “probably” will vote to reelect Sen. Dodd in 2010, while 51 percent say the “probably won’t” or “definitely won’t” vote for him. By a 54 - 24 percent margin, Connecticut voters say they are not satisfied with Sen. Dodd’s explanation of allegations that he received preferential mortgage treatment and 56 percent of voters say they are less likely to vote for him because of this controversy. His being linked to the current economic woes can’t help him much, either, nor his cheerleading of Geither, yesterday. Of course, there’s always the short memory syndrome.
