French Polynesia nuclear bomb test, 1970
2008-02-18 03:06:00
How the world has changed in almost 40 years. These days, above-ground (or even below-ground) nuclear tests by any country would be met with stern international condemnation. But 38 years ago, blasting a Pacific paradise island to oblivion in the name of showing off military might was routine. Here are amazing scanned Flickr photos from a guy named Pierre of nuclear tests conducted by the French Army in French Polynesia back in 1970. (I'm so glad the Philippines wasn't a French colony. If we were, maybe none of the virgin beaches I mentioned in my previous post would probably exist today.)

Early Polynesians Sailed Vast Distances-Photos
2007-09-28 09:00:00
In the 1900s early stone woodworking tools were found on several islands in the Tuamotu Archipelago, located southeast of Tahiti in eastern French Polynesia. (See pictures of Polynesian life.)The tools were recently analyzed and may prove that Tahitians and Hawaiians traded with each other as early as a thousand years ago.The archipelago makes up the world's largest chain of atolls?including the Rangiroa Atoll shown here?spanning a breadth of the Pacific Ocean that's about the size of Western Europe.Atolls, found mostly in the Pacific and Indian oceans, are circular coral reef islands that enclose a shallow lagoon.Early Polynesians traveled thousands of miles - from Hawaii to Tahiti - for trade and exploration, suggests a new study of woodworking tools. Early Polynesians were skillful sailors who traveled thousands of miles for trade and exploration, suggests a new analysis of stone woodworking tools like the one above. Australian researchers studied 19 of the tools, called adzes...
Polynesian Gangs in New Zealand
2007-09-23 09:45:00
Looking at this disgusting gangster video, I was trying to figure out the race of these New Zealand gangsters. Based on their fairly dark skin color, the US Black ghetto style, dress, speech their often-kinky hair, and even the name of their gang - Crips, I thought maybe I was dealing with a Black gang in New Zealand here. Some net references calling them "niggers" didn't help matters and initially sent me astray, but references to "sea-niggers" were more directive. But look at the video closely, and many of these gang members do not really look like members of the Black race. Besides, I never heard there were many Blacks in New Zealand anyway, although there are a few in Australia. After doing some research on the gang in the video, called Sex, Dope, Money, I figured out that they are Polynesians. Most Polynesians in New Zealand are Maoris (14% of the population), who are the indigenous people of New Zealand. The Maoris have only been there since the year 1100 or so. They are mixed M...
