A document film about Pompei and his invention
2009-08-24 12:10:00 I saw a document film about Pompei and his invention when I was in Beijing for business routine last wensday. He was a younger man, very impish. He made a practice joke to girl students who read in lab. He used his ultrasonic speaker at balcony directing to the girl and said, let;s have a talk....
Pompeii Down!, Madonna Down! Open, Up!
2007-09-12 14:23:00 1. Sad to hear that Roman Polanski has quit directing movie Pompeii. All sorts of reasons have been given for this ranging from failure to develop a tentpole script for a massive return on the $100m investment to the hot weather this year in south Italy - which is a bit like moaning about the chill in Siberia. Last I visited Pompeii in this incarnation I noticed that rival cartographers - at least three at the last count - had mapped the ruins differently so you didn't really know where you were. I thought of writing a comedy about it - mainly for the location pleasures - but then thought better of it.2. Madonna dragged out of a Bloc Party gig in a headlock? Hard to believe.3. Going to the Open magazine launch tonight incognito - a new arts/media online mag with a populist approach, and horoscopes. My kind of mag: culture and trash all in one. Then the New Statesman party on Thursday, incognito again, where I shall ask where's their brilliant arts diary.

Alexandria : Pompei Pillar

Scarlett Johansson and Orlando Bloom to star in movie about Pompeii destruc
2007-05-11 17:51:00 Roman Polanski’s destruction of Pompeii movie has found a cast. Coming Soon says he’s talking to Scarlett Johansson and Orlando Bloom to star in his ancient volcanic disaster flick. Anyone else picturing a scene in which Scarlett’s close get burned off in magically erotic locations? I can’t wait to see Scarlett Johansson explode. Based on a best-selling novel by Robert Harris the movie will be a dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a smoking Mt. Vesuvius right before and during its eruption. The story will follow an engineer working on a Roman aqueduct who finds himself wrapped up in politics and romance and, oh yeah, burning, smoldering ash. We’ll follow him around for three days with the movie ending in everything being wiped out. Rather than fixing the aqueduct, maybe our engineer hero should have spent his time finding Tom Hanks and pitching him into the caldera. Scarlett seems to be throwing herself whole hog into the period movie thing. Her next movie is a...

Erotic frescoes put Pompeii brothel on the tourist map
2006-10-27 15:21:02 A LUXURIOUS brothel that once entertained wealthy clients in Pompeii has been opened as a visitor attraction after painstaking restoration. The two-storey structure, which features erotic frescoes that leave little to the imagination, is expected to become one of the ancient city?s top draws. Officials who unveiled it yesterday emphasised that the year-long restoration had been carried out in the interests of archaeology ? and to save the frescoes ? rather than prurience. The brothel was named the Lupanare ? from lupa (she-wolf), the colloquial Latin term for a prostitute. Prices were posted outside the building, which had three entrances, and the frescoes depict the sexual services on offer. The Lupanare boasted ten rooms, five on each floor, with the upper floor (which had a balcony) reserved for more important and wealthier clients. Sexual activity took place on stone beds, which would have been covered by mattresses. Read the rest of this article...

2006-10-27 15:21:02 POMPEII, Italy (AP) - Art officials on Thursday presented a newly-restored ancient brothel in the archaeological complex of Pompeii. The "Lupanare" - which derives its name from the Latin word "Lupa" for "prostitute" - underwent a one-year restoration of its structure and decorations, the local office overseeing the famed tourist spot said. The brothel is believed to be the most popular one in the ancient Roman city. The two-floor structure, decorated with explicit erotic frescoes, has 10 rooms, five for each floor, and a latrine. The stone beds were covered with mattresses.Pompeii had many brothels, most of which consisted of only a room, often on the top floor of a shop. Read the rest of this article...
