2008-06-10 09:42:00
A mystery is catching the attention of Romans as two nuns have chained themselves in front of the Vatican and appealed to Pope Benedict XV to grant them permission to return to a convent from which they were expelled. Dressed in Camelite habits, the two nuns say they have been thrown out of a convent ...

John Paul II, the second-longest serving pope in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church died after a lengthy illness. Hundreds of thousands of mourners gathered in Saint Peter?s Square in Vatican City. Some visitors to the Vatican were startled by the powerful emotions that the popular pope?s death brought to the growing crowd drawn from around the world. Some dropped to their knees on the cobblestones in the square and sobbed so violently they could not be comforted by anyone; others seemed stunned as they began their cycle of grief at the loss. Pope John Paul II had been an extraordinary presence, and his absence was ove...
This Day In History - Pope Benedict XV Canonizes Joan of Arc as Saint
2008-05-17 13:59:00
Joan of Arc was a French military leader and heroine. Inspired and directed by religious visions, she organized the French resistance that forced the English to end their siege of Orléans in 1429 and secured the coronation of the dauphin, later Charles VII of France. Captured and sold to the English by the Burgundians, she ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "This Day In History - Pope Benedict XV Canonizes Joan of Arc as Saint", url: "http://top-dollar-website.com/-articles/this-day-in-history-po-pe-benedict-xv-canonizes-joan-o-f-arc-as-saint.html" });

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to Your shepherd, the Pope, a spirit of courage and right judgement, a spirit of knowledge and love.By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care may he, as successor to the apostle Peter and vicar of Christ, build Your church into a sacrament of unity, love, and peace for all the world. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.Amen.

Pope Benedict Solves Mystery of Pedophile Priests... Sort of
2008-04-22 12:22:00
by Robert Weitzel For twenty-four years the archconservative, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, was the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith—formerly the Holy Office of the Inquisition. As the Vatican’s doctrinal watchdog, he earned the monikers, “God’s Rottweiler” and “panzer cardinal.” It was his job to enforce doctrinal purity, both within the clerical rank and the rank and file . . . a task he performed with an apostolic zeal bordering on mania. In 2002, when the scope of the pedophile priest scandal in the United States was becoming too obvious for even the Vatican to continue to ignore, Rottweiler Ratzinger claimed that the sexual abuse allegations against Catholic clergy were part of a "planned campaign" that was "intentional [and] manipulated" to discredit the church. Whose campaign he didn’t say, but his short list probably included the pro-choice and gay rights lobbies. On April 19, 2005, in an arcane rite of “transubstant...
Pope Benedict XVI
2008-04-21 20:49:00
The Pope's visit was a great success in my mind. He came with a purpose  and did not hold any punches at the diplorable actions of the US Cardinals in the debacle of  perverted priests. And he did not hold any punches on the UN for their ineffectiveness on places such as Sudan, Iraq, and othe hot spots ithe world.   But he also came to promote the respect of human kind allove the world.  He even made some jabs at the US about the toture of prisoners.   Bus all in all, his visit was bright spot in a world of violence. He came to promote peace.   He was also the first Pope t visit a Synagogue in the United States. Here is a pretty good accessment of Pople Benedict XVI's visit tothe US in the TimesBenedict The Brave The Pope has shown himself worthy of his rapturous US reception A Catholic priest from California who attended Mass with the Pope in New York at the weekend said afterwards that he thought His Holiness might have been “a l...

Pope Pope Benedict XVI visit- Sorry I missed most of it.
2008-04-21 16:19:00
I didn't get to see too much of Benedict's visit because of the Army, but he seems to have made a good impression. I'm glad that he addressed the pedophile crisis, although I wish he would have made enabler Cardinal Mahoney walk around his unspectacular church on his knees. A friend of mine wanted to know why the Pope isn't asking Mahoney to release some documents related to the abuse scandal. I wish I could ask him. I'm sorry- this thing will be a problem for many years. The Pope praised freedom of religion in general and America as an example of a nation that has guaranteed people the ability to practice their faith. I'm reading a very long history of the Catholic Church, but I'm only up to David in the Old Testament. Now, I don't think that the Church has always encouraged freedom on religion when it was in a position to limit it. I'll try to find out an explanation for this seeming contradiction.Powered by b2evolution.
Pope Benedict XVI In Yankees Stadium - CNN TV and CNN.com
2008-04-20 21:59:00
Ok, I'm watching Pope Benedict XVI hold mass in Yankees Stadium before 57,000 people and I'm glad I'm seeing it, because I was going to change the channel at first. I was about to do that because I wasn't interested in it, but then I was overcome by the fact that I'd not been to Church in a few weeks -- escaping some negative energy at Glide Memorial in SF -- and needed to see a religious event. Plus, it's American Culture, or a part of it, and history. What's interesting is that so many people still turn out to see his holliness, which is a good thing, and a God thing too.
Pope Benedict XVI Prays For Peace At Ground Zero
2008-04-20 21:16:00
When is the last time you read about Ground Zero in the news? I haven't seen articles on it - or even the progress of construction there - in a long time. On the last day of his stay in America, Pope Benedict XVI visited the site of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack at 9:15 am today, asking God to bless those who suffered death, injury and loss and asked for peace to be brought to our violent world. Twenty-four people affected by the September 11th, 2001 attacks came with the Pope and hundreds of others gathered around just beyond police barricades, Catholics and non-Catholic's alike, hoping to see the Pope in person.

Pope Benedict - no Dr Strangelove
2008-04-18 19:35:00
The Pope`s visit to the United States would appear to have already been deemed a success. The reaction to the Pope and his acts across The Herring Pond appears to have allowed people to have developed a renewed appreciation for Pope Benedict and his message. Two articles in The Times- one a lead article on the Pope`s visit- appear to recognise this. The first is a lead article in today`s Times which hopefully will allow the past image of the Panzer Cardinal to be finally laid to rest.In Pope Benedict - no Dr Strangelove, the lead writer concentrates on Benedict`s message of "divine love" which "is surprisingly eloquent and confounds the early stereotypes"."Anybody who has ever had to stand at a podium after a gifted speaker knows how it might have been for Pope Benedict XVI this week as he has made the first papal visit to the United States since John Paul II.His predecessor was the ultimate media-savvy leader. When he came to the ultimate media-fixated nation, it was a match made in H...

Pope Benedict: a man of many contradictions
2008-04-17 08:53:00
Pope Benedict, who says he is "ashamed' of the child abuse scandal that has damaged the American Church, managed to set his personal afflictions aside as he was welcomed with White House pomp and ceremony. At his side was George W. Bush, a president who unleashed a maelstrom of death and destruction upon the people of Iraq, based on a pack of lies. These two men, despite their differences, have a lot in common. Neither one is prepared to take responsibility for decisions that have had a ruinous effect on untold numbers of lives, and both seek absolution by evoking the name of their God.The pope's claim that he is "ashamed" of pedophile priests, overlooks the key role he played in enabling their activities. In 2001, then Cardinal Ratzinger, issued a secret Vatican edict, an updated version of "Crimen Sollicitationis", that made clear to bishops that the interests of the Church were to be safeguarded first and foremost. A key element in the document was secrecy. Church leaders were ...
Pelosi Statement Welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to the United States
2008-04-17 02:03:00
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to the United States:“On behalf of the U.S. House of Representatives, I welcome His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on his first apostolic visit to the United States. Like millions of Americans, I look forward to hearing his message of hope and justice for all and his call to work together on the challenges that we face as citizens of the world. “In his papal encyclical of April 2006, entitled ‘God Is Love,’ Pope Benedict wrote of the role of public servants and the need for government to promote justice. In these challenging times, there are many opportunities for the world community to work for justice and come together on issues such as human rights and climate change. “On the crucial issues of global poverty and debt relief, I am proud that the House will act this week on bipartisan legislation to help relieve the crushing debt burden felt by the poorest countries ...

Pope Benedict XVI on the way for D.C. visit
2008-04-15 15:09:00
Pope Benedict XVI is now en route for his papal pilgrimage to the United States. The official reason for Benedict's visit is to give a speech to the United Nations on human rights but the sojourn has since taken a life of its own with numerous events planned here in the Washington, D.C. area and New York along the way.The pope will arrive at about 3:45 p.m. at Andrews Air Force Base and will be greeted by President and Mrs. Bush on site. Events over the next two days will include a speech at Catholic University, a meeting with interfaith leaders, a more formal meeting with the president at the White House and obviously, the papal mass Thursday at Nationals Park. With the imminent arrival of the pontiff will come all of the requisite traffic and parking interruptions, starting with no parking along Massachusetts Avenue NW near the Vatican embassy where Benedict will stay during his time in Washington.----Relevant links: WRC/4, WUSA/9

Pope Benedict : Exorcisms and paranoia
2008-02-18 21:52:00
During the medieval witch burnings, exorcists were in demand. In later periods, exorcism fell out of favor, but it was always available to those who knew how to make the right connections. Pope Benedict is now helping to give new sanction to the Catholic exorcism ritual, that in its classic form hasn't changed much over the centuries. In 1998, the Vatican published De Exorcismus et Supplicationibus Quibusdam (Concerning Exorcisms and Certain Supplications). This reflected the traditional Catholic conviction that Satan is alive and well, always looking for a way to snare new victims - a conviction shared by the present Pope. There are estimated to be as many as 300 Roman Catholic exorcists operating in Italy. Chief among them is an 82 year old cleric named Gabriele Amorth. He is reputed to have conducted some 30,000 exorcisms. Amorth is a man with no discernible personal power or even charisma, who believes that waving a cross around and muttering from the script adds up to an exorc...
Pope Benedict XVI and St Bonaventure
2008-02-16 13:41:00

Pope Benedict : Playing Politics in Spain
2008-02-05 02:38:00
Pope Benedict continues to show a willingness to become embroiled in the political affairs of European nations through the agency of his emissaries. Of late, the Vatican has shown little reservation about becoming directly involved in the Spanish electoral process. At the recent Spanish Bishop's Conference, a statement was released that is a clear attempt to influence the electorate - "not all programs are equally compatible with the faith and Christian demands in life".Many in Spain interpret this as coded instructions-from-on-high not to vote for parties that support gay marriage or that negotiate with Basque terrorists.Spain's ambassador to the Vatican, Francisco Vazquez, expressed "perplexity and surprise" at the statement issued by the Bishop's Conference, and made his objections known in a meeting with Vatican officials.A large part of this clerical activism is a response to the pro-gay marriage vote. In 2005 the Zapatero government introduced full gay marriage rights, much ...
Pope Benedict XVI is addicted to Fanta!
2008-02-04 12:09:00
Pope Benedict XVI has been outed as a secret Fanta fan by the Archbishop of York John Sentamu who paid the pontiff a visit at the Vatican.   The Archbishop took the Pope a case of Holy Grail beer, brewed in Yorkshire, as a gift but was offered a glass of Fanta in turn.   Vatican spokesman Father Tim Finigan admitted that Benedict XVI prefers Fanta, and that he goes through at least three to four cans a day.   "The Holy Father shuns booze and tries to convert all his guests to the benefits of pop," the Daily Record quoted Father Finigan, as saying.   "He prefers Fanta. I'm not really sure why, perhaps because it was originally created in Germany.   "But he goes through at least three or four cans a day and always has it with his evening meal."   A spokesman for Coca Cola, who produce the Fanta range, admitted that the company was ‘flattered’ to have the pontiff as a fan of their beverage. However they’ve ruled ...

Pope Benedict : Back to the Future
2008-01-07 01:04:00
On the face of it, it does seem odd that an elderly celibate who has spent most of his life cloistered in dimly lit rooms, should claim to speak for the family. What does Josef Ratzinger really know about family in the modern era? Precious little. His view of the the family is quaint, even anachronistic. His entrenched support of the traditional family, is just another brick in the wall of his orthodoxy. This is a man who harbors pet concepts that wouldn't be out of place in the medieval Church. A man so doctrinaire in his thinking, he didn't hesitate to use the term "intrinsic moral evil" in reference to homosexuality. As European society embraces new models of co-existence and new definitions of family, Ratzinger is in the business of invoking the ghosts of the past in his crusade to challenge his dread enemy - 'moral relativism' - a term that in his mind, could well be paraphrased as 'the-work-of-the-devil'.Josef Ratzinger is a man who has led a peculiarly sheltered clerical ...
Homily of the Holy Father (Pope Benedict XVI) during Midnight Mass
2007-12-25 01:20:00
Dear Brothers and Sisters,?The time came for Mary to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn? (Lk 2:6f.).These words touch our hearts every time we hear them. This was the moment that the angel had foretold at Nazareth: ?you will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High? (Lk 1:31).This was the moment that Israel had been awaiting for centuries, through many dark hours ? the moment that all mankind was somehow awaiting, in terms as yet ill-defined: when God would take care of us, when he would step outside his concealment, when the world would be saved and God would renew all things. We can imagine the kind of interior preparation, the kind of love with which Mary approached that hour. The brief phrase: ?She wrapped him in swaddling clothes? allows us to glimpse something of the holy joy and the...

The Infallible Pope Benedict Releases Bigoted Encyclical Vilifying Atheism
2007-12-04 08:47:00
Kelly O?ConnorThe Catholic Church has officially ended their campaign to improve the public image of the Church with the latest papal encyclical, Spe Salvi, which means ?saved by hope? for the Latin fans out there. The Catholic Church?s history is littered with crimes against humanity, and Pope Benedict XVI seems to desire the return to pre-Vatican II Catholicism. This was a concern voiced by many at the time that the former Joseph Ratzinger* was canonized to this position. The former pope, John Paul II, had made great strides in the modernization of the Church, and many were reluctant to elect somebody who would reverse that trend. Despite John Paul?s dogmatic adherence to the sexual proscriptions of Catholicism, he at least officially accepted evolution, admitted Protestants into heaven, and eliminated limbo. (Where was that place anyway? I may have been there once?) Pope Benedict is turning out exactly as predicted. The attempt to correlate atheism with violence, hatred, and genoc...

Pope Benedict vs. atheism
2007-12-03 08:19:00
Darth Ratzinger strikes another blow for the forces of darkness and evil, in yet another desperate attempt to drum up support for his fanatical crusade to hurl Western civilization (for lack of a better word) back down into religious fanaticism and barbarity, under the iron-fisted rule of the Roman Catholic Church. It has always been the fondest of all his wet dreams, ever since his days as the Grand Inquisitor before he became High Priest of the Paedophile Church - a return to the Dark Ages, with cathedrals and churches and monasteries everywhere, and barefoot peasants toiling in the fields under the watchful, gleaming eyes of fat priests and monks, and everyone living in constant fear of Ratzinger's impotent little god, a pathetic thing that has only ever existed in the deepest depths of his most deranged fantasies: Pope Benedict, in a new encyclical released on Friday, launched an attack on atheism, saying it was responsible for some of the "greatest forms of cruelty and violat...
