Porsche denies bringing Cayenne production to U.S. Reports from earlier this week had VW's upcoming U.S. factory possibly assembling the Porsche Cayenne SUV Stateside. On Thursday, Porsche spokesperson Albrecht Bamler denied the rumors. Bamler reasoned suppliers for the Cayenne's components are based in Europe, and shipping them over to the U.S. would not make sense. He also cited currency hedging the automaker maintains until 2013 as the reason the weak U.S. dollar is not driving the decision to move production of Porsche's first and only SUV. The reports had the next-generation Cayenne, due out in 2015, built at VW's U.S. plant, which is too far into the future to comment on, Bamler said. VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne bodies are made in Bratislava, Slovakia, and then shipped elsewhere for final assembly. In the Cayenne's case, it is Leipzig, Germany. VW considering U.S. Porsche Cayenne production Volkswagen could build the Porsche Cayenne at its upcoming U.S. plant, a new report finds. The new plant is scheduled to open in 2010, and could be producing the Porsche Cayenne just a few years after that. The decision hinges on whether VW will build the Touareg and Audi Q7 in the U.S. Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper revealed the possibility, citing internal VW sources. VW spokesman Andreas Meurer also confirmed the possibility. "When we discuss whether to build the [VW] Touareg and [Audi] Q7 in the USA, we also talk about the Cayenne," Meurer told Automotive News Europe. The VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne all ride on the same platform and are produced at the same plant. Porsche SE, the maker of the Cayenne sport-utility vehicle, said North American sales declined 4.6 percent in April as demand for the 911 and Boxster sports-car models dropped. Deliveries fell to 3,099 cars and SUVs last month from 3,248 a year earlier, Stuttgart, Germany-based Porsche said today in a statement. Sales of the 911 dropped 26 percent to 970 cars, while the Boxster lost 6 percent to 819 vehicles. I was looking through old articles here on BMW Blog, and I came across one that was from November of last year, doing a photo comparison of the BMW 135, the Porsche Cayman and the Nissan 350Z. All three cars are great in their own way, and all are very composed track cars, along with being very fast on the street. I have driven all of these cars except for the Porsche. I love the Z and I of course love the new 1-Series. Take a look at the video and decide for yourself. Also included is the Fifth Gear test of the 135 versus the Cayman.
