As an icon, Porter Wagoner helped launch the career of Dolly Parton. Earlier this year, Wagoner celebrated his 50th year in the Grand Ole Opry. He also signed with ANTI- Records and released Wagonmaster to rave reviews; he he opened for the White Stripes over the summer at Madison Square Garden. He was 80.Wagoner got his first big brake in 1952 when he was hired by RCA. For the first two years, his records did not sell well, but he got experience touring and in writing, including Carl Smith's 1953 hit Trademark.He first cracked the country charts in late-1954 with Company's Comin', which peaked at number seven.
