Should The US Postal Service Provide Secure Email?
2009-09-06 05:02:00
The majority of my written communications with friends, family, and attorneys are now done by me via email. Even the IRS accepts emailed tax filings, though so far it hasn't worked for me. I have postulated that it would be a legitimate job for the US Postal Service to have as part of their mi

Let me state the obvious, I am not an expert on politics nor want to write on them, however when it comes to certain subjects within politics that effect your everyday life like mine, sometimes something just have to be said, so welcome to “My Take” on off-topics.One of the most talked about subjects in the United States right now is the economy and here in the United States, it has hit us hard. The economy has brought everyone right down to reality, home prices are down, gasoline prices are once again raising, food prices are going up and the overall cost of living is going up while more and more people including me are unemployed. Even now, companies like banks and other business are raising fees to cover budget gaps.So it should be no surprise that even the United States Postal Service is once again raising fees, however I am not the only one that has a few suggestions for the Post Office and what they should do. While surfing the internet, I came across a site called Thatsth...

Awhile back, the released a series of stamps featuring comic book super heroes, and now the USPS is releasing a series of stamps all about Tailfins. How ...

This Winki's 5 Star Albums: GIVE UP by THE POSTAL SERVICE
2008-04-23 10:04:00
A 5 star album in my opinion is one that never gets old, even when it’s an electro-pop thing. And yes, no one denies Benjamin Gibbard’s pop side, but maybe no one really expected such a pop gem from two indie guys without high hopes in 2003. And Dntel was not a huge name, either. This album was prior to Death Cab For Cutie’s worldly recognition, before they release 2004’s Transatlanticism and 2005’s Plan which went platinum. And you probably know why they called themselves The Postal Service, but for those who don’t, the United States Post Office was how the two (Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello) traded their samples and thoughts on their collaboration. There are albums that can be proven only through time and repeated listens. Give Up is an electro-pop album that takes you to your past. What you hear is electronic but that does not mean you are living in an electronic music era. This is where electronic music is not made and composed to make you dance (though there are ...

The United States Postal Service
2008-02-18 06:31:00
Why should the United States Postal Service have a monopoly on non-urgent first class mail? What about the unique authority to deliver to private mail boxes? Many, including Milton Friedman, argue that the USPS is an unjustified monopoly and the cause of higher stamp prices and compromised efficiency. The Postal Service responds that with competition, it would not be able to deliver mail to such obscure addresses for the same price. All this in the face of e-mail, online bill pay and internet media means the future of the USPS is far from certain.

2008-01-29 15:53:00
I recently posted about how our neighborhood has finally been accepted by the US Postal Service as not 'rural' anymore and our mail person graduated to a real mail truck instead of his own personal car with a little light on the top. We are in the middle of a growing suburb with new growth extending north of us for a couple miles, but they took about 4 years to recognize and change the route (

Spanish postal service to start local delivery with EVs
2008-01-13 03:59:00
The Spanish Postal Service (Correos) has started a pilot plan to use EVs to deliver post in old historical city centers. Until now, the company used Vespas and human power (see picture). Now Correos is buying five electric vans and nine electric scooters (our source didn't mention which models).Correos also said that in the near future, its plans on substituting most of its diesel-powered vans with electric units for local delivery. La Poste, the French Postal Service, has had experiences with converted Citroën Berlingos which were somewhat satisfactory and is planning to go ahead with even more.Correos also announced that since 2006 all new purchased trucks fall under the Euro IV pollution norms (the Euro rules are usually one step behind passenger cars).Related: The French postal service plans to order 10,000 electric vehicles USPS hybrid delivery vehicle being tested in Boston TNT courier company buys two Smith EV trucks for Rotterdam delivery [Source: Agencia EFE via Soitu]

Postal Service to Netflix: redesign your mailers or face fee
2007-12-08 00:37:00
It Turns out those little handy mailers that Netflix sends their customers is costing the U.S. Postal Servic millions. The mailer can’t go through the current sorting machines at the post offices. So millions of Netflix mailers are handled by hand , costing the US Postal Service a staggering $41.9 million in additional labor costs over the past two years due to their "nonmachinable nature," and if things aren’t changed, it could cost them another $61.5 million over the next couple years. The Postal service will start charging Netflix fees if they don’t change their package design. Netflix will most likely comply rather than risk fees that would be passed on by the consumers.. Netflix saves the postal service $100 million annually because it pays the first-class postage rate both ways even though the company picks up returned mail at the post office, Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey said. Netflix ships about 1.6 million DVDs a day. So the mailer ...

U.S. Postal Service Launches Campaign to Raise Awareness of Scams
2007-10-15 18:14:00
We here at Me & Me are always looking for tips that raise awareness of threats to your identity and pocketbook. The US Postal Service has launched a new campaign to raise awareness of phishing scams, such as those that claim you have won millions (for, let’s be honest, doing nothing) and ask that you send a payment as a hold on your winnings. Check out www.fakechecks.org to get tips about how to prevent falling victim to this and other scams. Also in the news, TransUnion launches its credit freeze service for consumers nationwide today. You’ll remember we talked about TransUnion expanding the service beyond victims of identity theft and senior citizens to allow all consumers to access the service. Experian will join TransUnion in November and the third of the three major credit bureaus, Equifax, is expected to offer the service soon as well. In other news, a new survey released in the UK finds that nearly half of British consumers do not trust their banks with their pe...

UN GRAN USO DEL CORREO (THE POSTAL SERVICE)
2007-08-27 21:02:00

2007-06-13 02:21:00
Amazon.com Give Up, the debut release by this indie supergroup composed of Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie and Jimmy Tamborello from Dntel, is a smart, quaint, and often transcendent little pop record. The roots of the album lie in “(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan,” a woozy, gorgeous song recorded for the rad 2001 Dntel album Life Is Full of Possibilities. With Jimmy in L.A. and Ben in Seattle, the two simply mailed tracks back and forth, collaborating via (you guessed it) the United States Post Office. Lyrically it’s far breezier and happier (though not too happy) than anything Gibbard had written up to this point for Death Cab. The music is an elastic, very smart update of synth-pop and the melodies crystal clear, while the backing vocals courtesy of Jen Wood and Jenny Lewis are spartan and pretty. The songs stick in your head for days at a time. Forget the tags that have been thrown up against this music–Poptronica? New new new order? Please just ...

Q-post's main post office is located on Corniche Road, and there?s little chance of missing it ? it?s huge! You have to drive up several levels of the stepped car park to get to the entrance. and you?ll also get a good view of the city here. Inside, the building is pleasant enough, and there?s a cafe where you can relax as well as internet access.Efficiency Alas, post is notoriously unreliable even within Qatar. According to the Gulf Times, a post card can take 6 weeks to cross the city ? unforgivable when it only has to be transferred from one box to another.Addresses There is no organized system of street postal addresses in Qatar. To receive letters, customers must rent out a post office box.Renting a Post Office BoxYou?ll need to fill a form available either at the post office or on this link. Rural postal services under threat - or why I hate couriers
2006-11-29 22:40:00
There has been a lot of publicity recently about the threat to rural post offices. However, there is very little attention paid to the rather greater danger just over the horizon - the loss of rural postal deliveries. It hasn't happened yet, but anyone who thinks that there is not a crisis looming is hiding from the truth. The Royal Mail is haemorrhaging money due to its statutory commitment to a daily delivery to every UK address, while the piecemeal privatisation of parcel delivery services has allowed private courier services to cherry-pick the most profitable business. So no problem, eh? Your parcel will just be delivered by a bloke in a white van (or green/yellow/pink/brown) instead of a red one? Except it doesn't work like that. The couriers aren't interested in expensive and inconvenient rural deliveries, so they only do half the job. Here is what happens. I buy an item online or by mail order. The vendor, believing a “courier service" to be the most effic...
Indian Postal Service - Philatelic account
2006-08-29 13:13:00
I had written some time back, in an upbeat spirit about the Indian Postal service and the philitaly service that it offered. In the intervening period, the postal department has not done much (Apart from a few misplaced postcards- which could be because of Thai post) to remove the tinted glasses from my eyes. The scheme that had made me so buoyant was brilliant in its simplicity. It purported that if you deposited some money with the post office, they would at no postal cost (all in house you see!) send you new philatelic stamps as and when they did get published.I had put in my trust into the department and placed my 500 rupees in their care. That was in June and just when I was beginning to fidget, in came the mail with this package.I must say that the packaging and the processing is great. The stamps come by speed post and are sealed in an impressive envelope that is sealed with wax (do they still do that?) on the behind. Inside the stamps are further enclosed in a clear polythene...
