Postmodern Techniques in the Friedberg and Seltzer Films
2008-04-27 03:26:00
The team of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer should be a force to be reckoned with, perhaps as the most corrosive duo in all 21st century art. Their three films Date Movie, Epic Movie, and Meet the Spartans have each drawn in over double their respective budgets, and the latter two debuted as the #1 film in the United States. All three of these films have been critically panned, and Date Movie has the highest rating of 6% on RottenTomatoes.com. This might seem perplexing to one unfamiliar with the technique behind these movies, or for that matter, the nature of all of contemporary culture, but to those of us predisposed to the awful truths of 21st century America, it is quite obvious that Friedberg and Seltzer are masters of their craft. They are, in fact, the harbingers of true genuine postmodern film and the cryptic intellectual artisans ready to contribute bringing all culture to its knees through strictly postmodernist action. For those who may not know, these three movies are â...
PostModern Times: New Media Promotes Consciousness Change
2008-04-15 08:10:00
High-level animation supports cutting-edge thought with the debut of PostModern Times, a series of shorts, or "info- snacks," premiering on the iClips Network, www.iclips.net, produced in association with Curious Pictures. PostModernTimes promotes a new understanding of our world, highlighting practical tools and visionary techniques for a sustainable future -- think "The Simpsons" meets Buckminster Fuller and Aldous Huxley. The first release, "Consciousness is the Key," features four underground hip hop artists -- Naada, Propaganda Anonymous, 2HL, and iLL SpoKKinN -- and producer euphAmism in an animated music video packing lyrical and graphical punch in a call for global awakening. "Consciousness is the Key" is accompanied by the re-release of "Toward 2012," PostModernTimes' initial episode, a hit on YouTube and CurrentTV. "Toward 2012" dramatizes the controversial ideas of PostModernTimes co-founder Daniel Pinchbeck, bestselling author of "2012: The Return of Quet...
The Rise of Extreme Tolerance
2008-04-07 18:01:00
The world may value compromise and tolerance as supreme virtues, but they have a devastating effect on preaching.  As more and more evangelical pulpits reflect the surrounding culture, it’s time for Christians to proclaim a distinctively biblical worldview. John MacArthur elaborates in this article first published at Grace To You: Many evangelicals (once known for a very ...
Housing and the Postmodern Recession
2008-02-21 17:14:00
America’s economic downturn and housing crisis are major concerns for voters in this election. Each candidate has policy suggestions to alleviate these problems, but can any government intervention actually make a difference? Many economists, such as Princeton University’s Paul Krugman, contend that America is experiencing a “postmodern recession”; an economic downturn caused by factors other than regulation and resistant to traditional government attempts at revival. Can policy solve the housing crisis, or must we wait for the economy to right itself?
Ron Paul and the Postmodern Slum
2008-01-02 18:53:00
How does Ron Paul do it?  How does a relatively obscure man gain so much support that his campaign pulls in more money than the pandering machine of a Hillary RodHam Clinton?  Doubtlessly it’s because Ron Paul is quite unlike the usual fare of politicians on the scene today.  It’s evident to anyone who honestly listens to his message that Dr. ...
Philosophical Theories: Existential or Postmodern?
2007-11-04 20:15:00
Existentialism argues against the idea that the only reality we can be certain of is our own consciousness. Existentialism asserts that as conscious beings humans will always find themselves in a world with a prior context and history. This is received by the consciousness: humans cannot think away that world, it is inextricably linked to consciousness. Only ...

Postmodern suspicion and Matt Nathanson?s ?Heartbreak World?
2007-10-01 20:34:00
A while back I picked up Brian Walsh and Sylvia Keesmaat's Colossians Remixed: Subverting the Empire, a book about hearing Colossians with a new set of (postmodern) ears. In the first chapter, the authors describe and define globalization and postmodernity to lay the foundation for the argument of the rest of the book. Jean-François Lyotard, ...
Resources for Postmodern Preaching
2007-09-07 21:27:00
Dr. David Teague, a former missionary who teaches at Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Massachusetts, has started the website Postmodern Preaching as a resource for pastors and others who find the old methods of Christian apologetics irrelevant to a culture with postmodern ideas about truth and knowledge. The essays on this site are succinct and readable, providing a good starting place for the would-be evangelist. Here are some highlights from his article on Cultural Pluralism: In the postmodern world, all beliefs and belief systems are considered to be relative. We are told that there is no absolute truth. Faith is just a matter of private opinion. One person's faith is no more valid or unique than anyone else's. So, how do we preach in a world that is culturally pluralistic? We do so by being aware of: 1. The spirituality of postmodern people2. The uniqueness of Christianity 3. The need to be spiritually faithful yet also socially tolerant****... Cultural pluralism...suggests tha...

Philosophy, Religion, & Theology :: The Postmodernist Philosophy
2007-08-14 00:40:00
Author: Eric Subject: The Postmodernist PhilosophyPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2007 6:40 pm (GMT -4) Discerning and Defining the Essentials of Postmodernism Stan Wallace The university today is replete with opinions about postmodernism opinions that have diverse answers to questions such as: Where did postmodernism originate, and when? What defines it? How has it influenced our culture? How is it different from philosophies before it? Christians in academia must carefully analyze the various opinions and seek a correct understanding of postmodernism to know how to relate to this intellectual movement.1 Though much is being written on the nature of postmodernism, it appears many of the analyses focus on what may be termed "accidental properties," or properties which do accompany much postmodern thought, but are not essential to the view. I will discuss some of these accidental features, touch on the difficulties which result from identifying these as necessary or essentia...

The Postmodern Life of My Aunt
2007-06-18 17:56:00
The Postmodern Life of My Aunt presents a China undergoing rapid change, where good old-fashioned values are quickly being replaced by selfish materialism. Ye Rutang is a member of the old guard, not politically but morally, and her steadfast righteousness ultimately cannot withstand the societal changes sweeping through modern China. Despite the downbeat subject matter, ...
Integral mysticism in the postmodern world | Integral Spirituality
2007-06-04 12:49:00
"Integral Spirituality" as renowned philosopher and theoretical psychologist Ken Wilber puts, "will recognize the universal transcendent core of the world's spiritual traditions while simultaneously embracing the multiplicity of religious practices and beliefs. It will provide an integrating framework, grounded in spiritual experience, which unites the disparate theological systems by representing each as a unique but partial view of the same infinite divine reality. In a dialogue series titled, The Mystic Heart posted by IntegralNaked in youtube, Brother Wayne Teasdale and Ken Wilber discuss the advent of an integral mysticism in the postmodern world. Reflecting on their own spiritual experiences, the relation of science to spirituality, the lives of the great inter-spiritual pioneers, and how youth culture is revitalizing the mystical traditions, Brother Wayne and Ken show how an integral perspective can bring the revelations of mysticism into everyday life.In so doing, we learn t...
Vic Mackey Vs Tony Soprano: quien es mas postmodern?
2007-05-24 17:04:00
In 1999 David Chase first unleashed HBO’s The Sopranos on an unsuspecting public. It took a little getting used to, at least for me. This was not the gangster formula Iwas used to and expecting; this was the postmodern gangster. In the first episode, when Tony Soprano spends long screen moments at poolside watching the deer I was confused. Soon I realized Tony was not the usual mob boss. He had problems of human nature. He went to a shrink, worried about his kids’ grades in school, had panic attacks and memories of childhood. The first real clues that The Sopranos had both feet firmly planted in postmodernist turf began to pile up. For one thing, almost every one of the gangsters in Tony’s mob could quote long passages from The Godfather at length. And then there’s Tony’s viewing habits. He laughs his funny little laugh when he watches Cagney in old Warner Brothers films with delight. This is what postmodernists call Intertexuality, the way in which on...
Jean-Francois Lyotard, "The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge"; E
2007-05-04 10:22:00
http://users.california.com/~ra-thbone/lyopmc.htm(Trans. Geoff Bennington and Brian Massumi; 1993 edition from U. Minnesota Press.excerpt, Chapter 1-- "The Field: Knowledge in Computerised Societies":............The nature of knowledge cannot survive unchanged within this context of general transformation. It can fit into the new channels, and become operational, only if learning is translated into quantities of information." We can predict that anything in the constituted body of knowledge that is not translatable in this way will be abandoned and that the direction of new research will be dictated by the possibility of its eventual results being translatable into computer language. The "producers" and users of knowledge must now, and will have to, possess the means of translating into these languages whatever- they want to invent or learn. Research on translating machines is already well advanced." Along with the hegemony of computers comes a certain logic, and therefore a certain ...
News & Current Events :: New 'Postmodern' Bible Targets Seekers, Evolution
2007-03-03 09:33:01
Author: Eric Subject: New 'Postmodern' Bible Targets Seekers, Evolution Advocates Posted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:54 pm (GMT -5) New 'Postmodern' Bible Targets Seekers, Evolution Advocates By Lillian Kwon American culture has been "hijacked by extremists" - atheists and fundamentalists - one author believes. That leaves a lot of people in the "middle ground" where although there may be a belief in Jesus, their interests are far from conventional Christianity. A new Bible series is now targeting that middle ground. The first volume of a "postmodern" edition of the Bible was released this week, reaching out to seekers and skeptics. And it also invites people of different faiths and those who believe in evolution. "You see, I believe that if Jesus was alive today, he would understand that his ancestors, just like ours, were beasts," says Ruth Rimm, author of the new The Lost Spiritual World series. When Rimm, a high school teacher...
