Sathya Sai Baba 84th Birthday Celebrations. Will 21st Century India Tolerat
2009-11-22 02:03:00
Unimaginable splurgings of pomp and conspicuous waste attend Sathya Sai Baba's imperial-like birthday celebrations. The global financial meltdown will not have melted down his vast reserves of gold. Many politicians from right across India's political spectrum fall at Sathya Sai Baba's feet. Likewise industrialists, judges, many of the top brass from the armed services and police, and so forth. We know, too, via strong former devotee contacts with those who have roles at high levels, that, though there are those in foreign service who regret it, diplomats have been told "not to rock the boat" on the Sathya Sai Baba issue. This is actually a great disservice to India, because Sathya Sai Baba is NOT India!
Golden Throne of India?s Sathya Sai Baba. He says he will Rule the world so
2009-11-21 22:05:00
Soon never comes ... On November 23, 2009, he celebrates with enormous pomp and extravagance his 84th birthday. Sathya Sai Baba is haggard, weak and ailing, although on his 60th birthday he proclaimed that he would thenceforth not age. He long ago said that he will travel to other countries, actually naming some of them, and that he would perform these visits after first putting his "own backyard" (India) in order. In many respects, India is still in a parlous state.
Don't fall into the poverty trap. You might never get out...
2009-11-13 18:05:00
image via wikipediaUntil you earn about $40,000 a year, you're pretty much stuck in poverty, economists' numbers show. In fact, until you get past $40,000 a year, any raise or higher paying job you get might actually sink you deeper into poverty. Take a look at this story about a single mother, who after getting a higher paying job, didn't spend a dime more and couldn't pay her bills:Continue Reading......

Could there be an end to poverty?
2009-10-08 17:55:00
5751 S. Throop Street in West Englewood by David Schalliol. Yesterday, I was driving on the North Shore, on my way to see a friend. I had never driven through Winnetka before, and I exclaimed "Oh my God," aloud at least three or four times alone in my car. The mansions. Holy cow. Gates and tennis courts and green houses and giant houses that look like some kind of cross between Gone With the Wind's Tara and the Cinderella castle. How in the world do people have that much money? was the main thought running through my head. The day before, I had been driving through Englewood, where there are as many empty lots and boarded up buildings as palatial...
Which comes first: poverty or spanking? Friday news round up
2009-09-18 22:10:00
Photo by Art by Heather on FlickrThe LA Times reviews a new Duke University study that tries to untangle spanking your kids from being poor. The study shows that poor children are way more likely to be spanked, but it also makes them more aggressive and slows their development. It sort of asks the question - are kids spanked because they are poor and then become poor because they were spanked? The study says parents often spank because they themselves are dealing with challenges - like being a young or single parent or living in poverty - and they also might reflect that poor parents are preparing their kids for a life full of these same challenges. The UN and the...
Poverty in US way up, Power Elite doing just fine
2009-09-13 19:36:00
On September 10, 2009, the US Census Bureau released the latest figures for poverty rates in America which now affect one in eight Americans. Our plutocrats-in-charge, the grossly wealthy and morally deformed power elite, remain unmoved as their NWO plans steamroll along. And it continues to amaze me that so few people in this country see a connection! On Jan 1, 2006, with Astrology as a lens and intuition my guide, I was blogging like the dissenting gnat I am here on SO'W and fussing about upcoming Soup Lines Across America. Was I wrong? Well, I wanted to be, yet felt a sinking feeling that I was not. Please check out a bit of (Freemason) President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Jan 20, 1937 Inaugural Address where he defines the test of our progress, the dynamics of which I assert were of no concern to George Bush or to other US oligarchs. So Bush's financial crisis of 2007/2008 expectably occurred, ostensibly giving states and the federal government many excuses for cutting back on publi...
Union Bank Philippines keeping Filipino?s in Poverty
2009-08-20 05:38:00
Union Bank Philippines is doing its best to keep Filipino?s in poverty and people hungry. Remember the story from yesterday Unionbank Philippines Theft it is now 24 hours since that poor woman has been able to eat, because Unionbank Stole her money and will take 15 days to pay it back if they ever pay it back. We still can see no reason why it takes 15 days other banks in the world can sort a problem from a ATM fault like this in a few hours, we can only presume the reason for 15 days is it?s a long enough that many people will forget it, so Union Bank never has to pay it back. This seems to be the case we have had comments left by people who have never got their money back after ATM machines failed to pay out. While Unionbank does it?s best to keep people hungry and in poverty they also report record profits. Pat yourselfs on your back Union Bank you have record profits because you steal from your customers and keep your country in poverty. Bonnie and Clyde also bragged about the h...
Is there a Poverty Draft? Friday news round up

Lack of Budgeting Causes Poverty?
2009-04-12 08:48:00
Recently, there are quite a few people losing jobs and going into debts. However, there is nothing surprising about that. In fact, the surprising thing is that a lot of those who get into real big problems are not the really poor folks, but rather those once-rich highly-paid executives. It is bad to lose jobs for anyone, ...

Poverty Versus Denial
2008-11-14 01:02:00
Former Bushco speechwriter Michael Gerson opined as follows in the WaPo yesterday?Political indifference to durable poverty in our midst has long been a scandal; from Obama it would be a tragedy. From here?According to the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor statistics, the national poverty rate increased from a record low of 11.3 percent in 2000 to 12.5 percent in 2007 -- an increase of approximately 5.8 million Americans living below the poverty line. ?In George W. Bush?s presidency, there?s been an almost total absence of benefits of growth trickling down to the middle class, much less to those at the bottom,? says Jared Bernstein, an economist with the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute, whose extensive writing on the working poor includes the book "The State of Working America." The nation's unemployment rate has risen from 4 percent in 2000 to 6.1 percent at present. Bush's economic policy has been marked by tax cuts largely beneficial to the wealthy, while federal...

future headline: microfinance ends poverty!
2008-11-03 13:46:00
Consider these statistics... Almost half the world ? over three billion people ? live on less than $2.50 a day. At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. More than 80 percent of the world?s population lives in countries where income differentials are widening. The poorest 40 percent of the world?s population accounts for 5 percent of global income. The richest 20 percent accounts for three-quarters of world income. According to UNICEF, 26,500-30,000 children die each day (that is one child every three seconds) due to poverty. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (same as children population in France, Germany, Greece and Italy). An estimated 40 million people are living with HIV/AIDS, with 3 million deaths in 2004. Every year there are 350?500 million cases of malaria, with 1 million fatalities: Africa accounts for 90 percent of malarial deaths and African children account for over 80 percent of malaria victims worldwide. Some 1.8 milli...

Today I am proud to be a part of the second annual Blog Action Day. Each year on October 15th, thousands of bloggers, spanning the globe, unite to bring awareness to one specific global issue. This year bloggers aim to “bring awareness, initiate action and shake the web” about poverty using their own unique voice. I would like to bring this to your attention. Every three seconds… …a child dies from extreme poverty and over 1 million Canadian children live in poverty. These numbers are unacceptable and something can be done. Get involved! Blog Action Day 08 - Poverty
2008-10-15 23:00:00
Earlier  today I shared about my coupon savings and even free food items with using Savings Angel.  After visiting a few of my favorite blogs today, I see that today is “Blog Action Day” an event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. This year’s topic (today) is poverty.    Though we have gone through very rough times (several job lay-offs, working from home solely, medical issues and two deaths), wondering how we’d make ends meet, we have never had an empty refrigerator, or empty cupboards.  We might not always have on the shelf what we want, but there has always been food.  I’ve been so excited in building up our pantry some, excited to get greatly discounted, nearly free and free food, but reading some of the blogs today that are part of the Blog Action Day has made me stop to think.  I cannot imagine my children running out into the streets begging for f...

Blog Action Day 2008 - Poverty and Gift Economy
2008-10-15 15:01:00
The concept of a gift economy is as old as society itself. It has always been there in one form or the other. People in all civilizations have been exchanging gifts in order to establish social relationships and strengthen existing ones or rulers would give away large amounts of goods to their followers (still do in some monarchies) or rich people give away things of value for the collective benefit of the public. Only the forms have kept changing over time. When people give to one another, freely and without conditions, sharing their blessings with others and bearing each other's burdens, the giving multiplies and we receive far more than what was given. Even when there is no immediate prospect of return, Allah Almighty keeps accounts of all the giving, and in the end blessing will return to the giver, multiplied manifold. All religions advocate that humans should participate and give (back) some of what Allah the exalted has bestowed upon them, in what ever way possible.Another ...

Think of Poverty on Blog Action Day 2008
2008-10-15 05:16:00
As I contemplated on what I was going to write and how I was going to participate in a Blog Action Day 2008 in which thousands of bloggers all over the world are thinking and writing about the same issue that transcends color, creed, race and or country,  I was taken over by a lot of emotions.   I thought about the lady we often see walking in the downtown area asking people for quarters.  Over the years it has become a joke amongst most people who work in that area, whenever someone sees her or comes across, they’d laugh and say there goes the quarter lady!   People laugh at her because she has a one liner ‘got a quarter?’  for everyone.   You can find her eating a subway sandwich every day at the train station.   I’ve never laughed at her but I’d admit (and I am ashamed of this) that I have ignored her many times and turned my face away thinking I can’t give her a quarter every day? How selfish I was.  With blog action day theme, as ...

POVERTY - Blog Action Day 2008:
2008-09-11 06:42:00
Poverty speaks for itself. To announce my support to eridicate pverty, I ask you to read this, I asked persons from different segments of our multi-classed society to account for their monthly income and spending. All the accounts were very revealing. This is the story that moved every one.An old lady named Suban, in her late 70s may be, she did not know her age, lives alone with no male member to look her after. Having lived all her life in the remote village in district Chitral, her total possession is three goats she had. She takes them out for grazing every day and also performs other domestic chores single-handed. She is healthy, active and happy with life. I once asked her about how she manages her expanses (read budget)? On lot of coaxing she said, "I will be happier if my goat delivers three lambs this time." Surprised, I asked her to explain. She said, "I will sell the lambs and put a new roof on my home and will sell all the milk to live comfortably!" Her budget is simpler...
Compassion International
2008-09-08 10:00:00
Compassion International is an organization that works around the world to fight poverty, you may have heard of it last year when they organized a group of media people and bloggers to go to Uganda and write about the relief efforts they saw, one of whom was Shannon Lowe from Rocks in My Dryer who gave us wonderful stories of her time in Africa.Well they're doing it again and I wanted to mention that you can look forward to more stories as Compassion International takes another group of writers to the Dominican Republic November 2-7, 2008 to record what's happening there. I was asked to attend but through scheduling conflicts I had to decline so the least I can do is to put you wise as to what you can expect from the other bloggers attending. Who knows, maybe I can get lucky next year and get another invitation to join them then? The Pioneer Woman, 5 Minutes for Mom, Owlhaven and Big Mama are a few of the quality blogs that will be represented this time around which I'd encourage...

Number of uninsured drops; Poverty holds steady

WASHINGTON - The Census Bureau reports that the number of people lacking health insurance dropped by more than 1 million in 2007, the first annual decline since the Bush administration took office. Blog Action Day 2008 will be about Poverty
2008-08-22 05:10:00
Last year, I had joined thousands of bloggers all over the world during Blog Action Day 2007, and the topic of conversation was Environment.    This year, on Blog Action Day (October 15, 2008), once again bloggers across the globe will unite in bringing awareness to the masses and the topic will be Poverty.     Many people ask what can one person do about Poverty?  Or how can blogging about poverty make a difference?   There is power in numbers and unity.  When thousands write about the same issue, in a sort of a brain storming way,  giving ideas to each other about ways to end it, educating those who have no idea about it, bringing awareness, inspiring each other to take actions, and changing minds on a global scale, our society can be better.   Also, there is a very compelling video posted on Blog Action Day site just to answer some of such concerns!     And you can also read up a bit on what poverty actually...
Obama, “hope” and the poverty meme
2008-07-22 15:01:00
Remember that New Yorker cover of Obama that caused so much fuss last week? Seems people are finally starting to read the actual story we (but darned few others) linked… and look what we find inside… Just after the 9/11 attacks, Obama went for the jerking knee when asked about what caused those attacks:  Even as I hope for some measure of peace and comfort to the bereaved families, I must also hope that we as a nation draw some measure of wisdom from this tragedy. Certain immediate lessons are clear, and we must act upon those lessons decisively. We need to step up security at our airports. We must reexamine the effectiveness of our intelligence networks. And we must be resolute in identifying the perpetrators of these heinous acts and dismantling their organizations of destruction. We must also engage, however, in the more difficult task of understanding the sources of such madness. The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of em...
