The donors, who have asked to remain anonymous, have each pledged approximately $500,000 to the project. Both are UConn alumni and long-time supporters of the University and the Division of Athletics. Lao Tzu, the Chinese philosopher who authored The Tao Te Ching, wisely reminds us that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. What he failed to mention was that the journey of a thousand miles is completed by taking that same step over and over and over and over and over and over again. It’s this repetition, The Power of Practice, that is a…

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with PRIVATE PRACTICE Star Caterina Sc
2011-11-17 20:05:00
This time it really is personal. Or at least that was the distinct impression your very own TV Addict was left with following a one-on-one with PRIVATE PRACTICE star Caterina Scorsone who recently took the time to tease tonight’s very special episode of PRIVATE PRACTICE that has the gang from Oceanside Wellness confronting her character, Amelia Shepherd, about the drug addiction that is destroying her life. But why personal you ask? Well, as it turns out, the Canadian-born actress has a unique connection to the world of drug addiction and mental health thanks to her father who runs an organization (The Good Neighbour’s Club) that serves as a homeless shelter for retirement-aged people suffering from addiction and mental health issues. Add to that what Scorsone herself characterizes as an incredibly misunderstood disease and you have fodder for what will surely go down as one of the most emotionally-charged episodes of the series thus far. See for yourself what Scorsone h...
Second Summit on Chinese Business Law and Practice in Santiago, Chile. Nov
2011-11-11 02:18:00
Last November, the Asian Studies Program and the Law School of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Catholic University of Chile) hosted a Summit on Chinese Business Law and Practice in Santiago.  As I mentioned in my post on that event, I had very high hopes for the Summit, in part because it was organized by Marcos Jaramillo, the head of the University's Asian Studies progrm and someone I have known and respected for years. Sure enough, the 2010 event was a great success, and I am happy to announce that the Second Summit on Chinese Business Law and Practice is now just around the corner.  It will be held on Friday, November 18th, again at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago.  Sponsors include the Chilean-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Asia Pacific Chamber of Commerce, Clifford Chance, and the Chilean Federation of Industry. And this time, yours truly will be among the speakers. I will be presenting on “Avoiding and Winning Chinese Dispu...
Todman To Join Chargers Practice Squad
2011-10-26 00:12:00
It looks as though former UConn Huskies running back Jordan Todman has cleared waivers after being waived by the San Diego Chargers on Saturday. According to NBCSanDiego.com, Todman will be signed to the Chargers practice squad. The move will be made official later in the week. Todman was sixth round draft choice of the Chargers in the 2011 NFL Draft. He had not seen any action on the gridiron in five games before being waived. He did appear in the preseason for the Chargers as he had 28 rushes for 112 yards and nine receptions for 68 yards. Follow Ian on Twitter @soxanddawgs. And be sure to like us on Facebook as well. Creative Practice: Rhythm & Recurrence
2011-10-21 23:09:00
Our most vital repetition is the breath and the heart beat. All art practice is based on repetition as we attain mastery. It's practice, right? Music, dance, theater, visual art, and writing. These are called "disciplines" of course, because they require discipline. Repetition is how we get there. As musicians we practice scales. As artists ...

Social Work Today Article - Building a Practice in a Digital World
2011-06-02 23:30:00
Check out the article in Social Work Today - Building a Practice in a Digital World. It highlights how digital media - including blog websites - is being used in social work by clinicians. I was interviewed for it because of my use of blogging for my private child therapy practice, Child Therapy Chicago. I periodically post articles about children, parenting, child development, emotional/mental health, etc. both on my website and here, for ChicagoNow.I have gotten a lot of feedback that blogging about things you know or have expertise in can be very helpful to others and has a greater appeal than something that just provides static information about, say, a service; in my case, a private child therapy practice...
You Must Put That Club Down When You Practice!
2011-05-06 02:54:00
One of the mistakes golfers make when they are on the range is that they don’t “align” themselves correctly and get into a bad habit of aligning themselves 20 yards right or left of the target. Believe me, I’ve played golf over 20+ years and it always comes back to that, alignment. If you can’t ...This post: You Must Put That Club Down When You Practice! You know the easiest way to improve your golf swing?  I do, I’ve been swinging golf clubs most of my life, that is very simple. The most “awesome” drill in golf (Swing) is to swing your golf club with just your left hand (or your right hand for lefties), then try to feel very powerful. ...This post: The AWESOME DRILL – “Left Shoulder Practice”! Michael has signed numerous guitars, posters, photos, etc... over the years with the phrase written as: 3x ll:PRACTICE:ll Michael writes repeat signs and inside of those signs is the word PRACTICE. The 3x notation at the beginning of the first repeat sign means to repeat the phrase 3 times - hence, the musically correct way to write -PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!http://shop-angelo.com-/index.php?main_page=index&-cPath=1

Lovie Wise to Practice Playoff Intensity
2011-01-03 01:12:00
Bears fans are a fickle bunch.  Instead of enjoying the belated Christmas gift of the #2 seed courtesy of the Vikings, Bears fans immediately lit up the local sports talk shows with pleas for Lovie Smith to rest all of his starters vs the Packers tonight.  Even the local media took up the cause declaring, in all of their infinite wisdom, that there is no logical way that the Bears starters should play.  It would be a no-win situation for Bears head coach Lovie Smith. The lone voice of reason and logic, amongst those who have a voice, were some former NFL players and the Bears themselves.  Lovie Smith and his players repeatedly said throughout the week that they needed every...

Passions Run High As RBs Taylor & Bell Come To Blows in Practice
2010-12-04 04:24:00
I Just found-out that RBs Chester Taylor and Khalil Bell were about to "do-one" at the Payton Center today at practice.  Some are looking at this as a possible "omen" since the last time 2 Bears runners really mixed-it-up was in 2006 when the Bears made it to SB XLI (see Bear Report Article).  The players were Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson back then, and those two were known to get into some "serious" throw-downs.  One time Jones reportedly punch Benson right in that hard head of his.  In the long run, the two simply could-not co-exist at all which lead to Jones heading to NY.So now Bear Fans, are passions running high on the Bears once again like they...

Boozer back at practice; may debut against Magic
2010-11-30 12:54:00
Per KC Johnson: "I felt I had a pretty good day of practice," Boozer said. "My hand felt pretty good. There were a couple of times it got hit, which was good to see how that felt. It was a little sore. "But my wrist is getting a lot stronger, which is important to me. When I first started shooting, it would get really fatigued really fast because it wasn't used to following through." Boozer said -- and coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed -- it's his decision on when he returns. "I'll know with how it reacts," Boozer said. "If the pain and the swelling isn't there, I'll play." All associated with the Bulls expect a smooth transition. "I've been going...

Deceitful Practice of Educating on Abuse
2010-11-24 17:19:00
I have noticed in some circumstances in which people speak about abuse they tend to ?generalize? it, or even try to incorporate everything they see sinful into the definition.  You might ask WHY they would do this, and I have begun to see a pattern.  They do this so they don?t have to deal with what they seem to see as more ?minor? offenses to them.   They twist the definition to show that ?everyone? is guilty.  That way it can be addressed in a more general manner, and dealt with as such as well.    HOW everyone can be sinful at one time or another, and downright hinting how everyone can be abusive. The strange part of that is then they generally go into HOW the word abuse is over used.  What do they think they just did themselves? Pattern of Behavior What they seem to not deal with is the part of the definition that speaks of ?pattern?.  There is a pattern of behavior.   They take an individual that may have done something ...

Tough Practice

Spent two days practicing for upcoming Pan-O-Prog bass fishing tournament on Lake Marion, neither day went well.  Not sure if I got too caught up with my new side imaging unit, but I spent a very full day fishing on Monday, only caught 4 bass and a pike, plus a few more bites.  At least one of them was a good fish, I got this 19" largemouth off one of my spot, which gives me a little confidence for Saturday. It was good to get out, most of my holiday weekend was consumed with out of town guests.  At least this gives me one more fish for BP's Blog Derby!  Guess I will have to work on fishing the moment on Saturday! Hope you all had a safe and wonderful 4th of July weekend!

Tom Thibodeau stops practice when Deng shoots a long 2
2010-10-02 14:40:00
Either Thibodeau reads my blog or great minds think a like (or we're both morons), but I suggested that if I coached the Bulls I'd fine Luol Deng for every jumper he takes within 2 feet of the three point line.Apparently, Thibodeau agrees.Thibodeau has even green-lighted Luol Deng to take corner 3-pointers that he has developed accuracy on, even stopping a recent practice because Deng had launched a long jumper from just inside the arc. Due to ultra-competitive job market, future executives must showcase in-demand talents at job fairs, special events and interviews.  Here are essential habits to perfect if you want to excel in your next career opportunity: Professional Demeanor (friendly smile; confident handshake; stylish attire/grooming; upright posture; articulate voice; direct eye contact; positive attitude; be polite to everyone) Social Manners (unplug IPod upon entering building; be prompt for meetings; take initiative to turn off cell phone/PDA; display patience; send sincere thank you cards; grasp office culture) Dining Etiquette...
