Political play in Prague
2008-05-23 00:00:00
Plays penned by presidents may not be an obvious entertainment choice, but when the former leader in question is also a world-renowned dramatist in his own right it makes for must-see viewing.Vaclav Havel's Leaving is his first play in 20 years, during which time he has been at the forefront of Czech politics. His new drama deals with the painful adjustment of life out of office and drew a huge crowd and rave reviews on its May premiere at the city's Archa Theatre. The general consensus is that this, his 19th play in total, is also one of his finest, dealing with themes of uncertainty and collapsing values. But the 71-year-old playwright and leader of Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution denies the work is either autobiographical or an attack on his presidential successor, as press have speculated. Those who miss out on the controversial play in Prague can take comfort from the fact a string of other venues have already snapped it up including London's Orange Tree Theatre in September.

Mala Strana, Prague
2008-05-19 15:58:00
Mala Strana, both meaning in English literally “Little Side”, though more frequently referred to as “Lesser Town”, “Lesser Quarter”, or “Lesser Side”) was originally a popular and nowadays also the official name for “The Lesser Town of Prague”, one of Prague’s historical and oldest boroughs. Its name comes from its position on the left (west) ...

Prague in a Handbag
2008-05-14 07:10:00
(8" x 6.5"wide)While I was on holiday in the Czech Republic, I discovered this beautiful beaded handbag at an antique shop near the Prague Castle. I don't know where the bag was made, nor do I know the age of the bag, although I suspect it was created in the mid to late 1800's. I also don't know the proper value of it, but the price was right, so I brought it home. The body of the purse is completely intact with almost no beads missing and the rose pattern continues all around the bag. There is a long chain attached which is used for closure. The beads appear to be embroidered, and the seed beads are very small- size 15 or smaller. Many of the beads are charlottes, and they really sparkle in the light. There are a few beads missing on the blue tassel at the bottom, but other than that, this bag is still in excellent condition. I marvel at the artistry it took to create this. :DI thought this was the perfect souvenir from Praha. Have a look for yourself. How old do you think it is...

Heaven in Prague
2008-05-01 20:30:00
Nebe, meaning heaven, represents paradise for a host of club-goers who head to the Czech capital to revel in the eclectic nightlife. The Prague venue is a perfect spot for the lover of more alternative music, set in a great cellar venue.Located in an old building dating back at least a few hundred years, the dance club and bar blares out hip-hop and techno, along with smatterings of indie, rock and punk classics. As one of the only venues in the Czech capital to play this genre of music, it attracts massive crowds, who indulge in the cheap drinks and friendly atmosphere, while taking advantage of the free entry.Friday nights are particularly noteworthy, when Nebe is home to the renowned Prague Heartbeats, who play a glorious selection of indie and Britpop.Guests can treat themselves to one of over 100 cocktails, or even share one of the massive cocktail buckets designed for eight people.Other hot night venues in Prague include Cross Club, M1 Lounge and the hip Radost FX.

Movie Review: Caravan/Prague ? The Uneasy Road To Change
2008-04-15 19:39:00
Citizen involvement in political affairs is slowly dying. Even with internet activism on the rise, mainly because it?s easier than actually going out and doing something, people are becoming more disjointed from the political process in their countries. This leaves activism as a form which is found more towards the fringes of any given political ...

A Report from Prague
2008-04-05 12:25:00
Our trip to the capital of the Czech Republic Prague took place during the last week of March, however, judging by the weather, it could have been December just as well. During those three days in Prague, we've seen more snow than through the whole winter. Sudden changes of weather conditions didn't prevent us from completing our task and we've divided our bookstore checklist into two days. (Yes, in order to use our time efficiently we actually prepare a list of the bookstores we wish to visit before we arrive to our destination... There's still some space for spontaneous discoveries tho...) We already had three bookstores in our Guide listed under Prague, so we decided to check those out first. Our first stop was at the bookstore bearing the famous name of William Shakespeare - Shakespeare and Sons. This bookstore can be found in two locations in Prague. We visited the one positioned quite far from the center of the city in Krymska street. The interior of the store is divided in...
Paris Hilton Hurts Her Chin From Fall In Prague
2008-04-03 00:14:00
Paris Hilton badly hurt her chin after falling over in Prague on Sunday. The hotel heiress - who has U.S. size 11 feet - was rushing out of a music store in the Czech Republic capital in a bid to escape the paparazzi. Paris, who was wearing sneakers, tripped as she went through the door with her boyfriend, Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden. Instead of helping her up, Benji stepped over the

Paris Hilton Falls on Her Face in Prague (Photos & Video)
2008-04-02 00:44:00
Paris Hilton shows she can by as clumsy as the rest of us, even if she had swapped her trademark vertiginous heels for a pair of trainers - not footwear usually associated with danger. The socialite was attempting a quick exit from a music store in Prague, the Czech Republic with boyfriend Benji Madden, when she tripped over a step, fell face down and banged her chin on the ground.Down she goes: Paris falls to the ground as she tried to make a sharp exit from a music store in Prague. Unfortunately chivalry appears dead as boyfriend Benji Madden steps over his girlfriend. However as soon as Benji realizes his socialite girlfriend is hurt, he turns round and helps Paris to her feet.In the video you can?t actually see Paris fall but you can see afterwards when Benji tells the Paparazzi to give them some space so he can treat his princess!!SourceRead More: Paris Hilton Does Some Good Just for Benji!Paris Hilton & Benji Madden ARE Engaged for Real!Paris Hilton ?My Name is Earl? Big Ben Bookshop, Prague
2008-03-29 11:20:00
Where? Prague, The Czech RepublicVisited: March, 2008A cozy bookstore by the name of Big Ben is a common meeting point for expats in Prague. Unlike its name suggests, it's neither big, nor Ben. No, seriously, it is a rather small place with a pleasant, almost family-like atmosphere. For people spoiled by second hand bookstores in other parts of Central Europe (yes, we mean Budapest), the prices may seem a bit high. However, for those accustomed to regular priced bookstores with new English stock, Big Ben may not appear expensive at all.The selection of books offered in Big Ben is actually very good, taking the limited available space into consideration. The books are arranged in several categories, we really appreciated the fiction and the children's section. Besides the usual paperbacks of your favorite titles, you can also find nice hard cover editions, for reasonable prices, which may serve as an excellent gift. Another noteworthy thing is the section devoted to Prague, its his...

Gay Prostitution and Gay Porn in Gay Prague
2008-03-20 11:58:00
I found this interesting article online about prostitution in Prague. - In the quiet and luxurious Vinohrady district, just outside the center of Prague, anyone can walk into certain  gay clubs and have their pick of male escorts. Prostitution is not illegal in the Czech Republic as long as the prostitute is at least 18. (Actually I am told, "There are two bars in Prague where escorts are openly available and these are Escape and Temple.  Temple is on the fringes of the gay quarter but is actually in Zizkov, the district that neighbours Vinohrady.  Escape is down town.   However these same escorts often go out to the other gay bars, particularly Valentino and Termix, sometimes with the clients that have picked them up in Escape or Temple or sometimes with their mates.  But I have heard stories of them then attempting to charge anyone who tries to pick them up in Valentino for example." - So if you are NOT looking to pay, keep that in mind.)In ...

New experiences and disappointments. Poland, Špindlerův Mlýn and Prague
2008-02-11 21:37:00
Hey. I finally made myself to write something to my blog. It's been happening so much and that`s why it`s especially difficult to begin with something. So...about THE trip. We left Vilnius at around 6:30 AM. My fellow-traveller Giedrius was examining Auto-route software while I was driving my BMW :) It didn`t take long to reach Kaunas and soon we were at the border of Poland. After having a coffee and a sandwich in the last Lithuanian Statoil gas station we finally drove into the territory of Poland for the first time since we`re in Shengen area. We drove many kilometers through Suwalki, Augustaw, Bialystok, Warsaw, Wroclaw etc. and finally we reached the border of Czech Republic. That meant we`re almost there. Here started the mountain roads. I`ve never driven under such conditions before so it was really interesting and lots of fun. Finally we drove into our final destination - Špindlerův Mlýn. After couple of hours of wandering in the rain we found our "Horni pramen" hotel ...

Property in Prague Rising Quickly
2008-02-01 11:34:00
Prague is changing with brand new property developments springing up over the city. It is also attracting overseas property investors to buy property in the city. For many people, the city of Prague leads to thoughts of beautiful old architecture, cafes and the Bohemian lifestyle. Lately, though, the capital city of the Czech Republic is seeing some fast rising developments alongside international investment in its economy. The combination makes this city a great place to look for real estate investors who want a home in this part of Europe or a place to earn some rental income.

GMR to bid for modernisation of Prague airport
2008-01-28 09:28:00
MUMBAI: After successfully bidding for upgrading Turkey's Istanbul international airport, infrastructure major GMR will bid for the modernisation of Prague airport in Czech. "Prague airport is expected to come up for bidding mid-this year and we will bid for it," GMR CFO (Strategic Finance) Ashutosh Agarwala said. The company is betting big on the airport modernisation business in Europe following its successful bid for modernising Turkey's Sabiha Gocken airport. "We scent an immense potential in airport modernisation in Europe. Europe is lagging behind in airport privatisation, especially Eastern and Central Europe. We expect more airports to come up for privatisation and we will definitely bid for them," Agarwala said. Agarwala, who joined the GMR Group only a few months ago, said the firm would bid for Prague airport as part of a consortium but "has not yet finalised it". That the airport business was a mega one was evident from the fact that even developed economies in Europe ...
