Commentary: No racism in the presidential election?
2008-05-14 22:10:00 Oh absolutely there's racism in this election. I can prove it: Some want to know why it isn't racist when 70 percent of African-Americans vote for Obama but it is when 70 percent of whites vote against him. The answer has to do with history. Over the decades, black Americans have had plenty of opportunities to vote for white people for president. And they have done so. But this is the first time that white Americans have a chance to vote for an African-American with a shot at the presidency. And what are they doing?Wrong. When you accept that many black folks are voting for Obama because of the color of his skin, then try to twist that into making it sound ok, and when white folks do it, it's wrong, you've made a racist statement yourself. You're being hypocritical in thinking that it's ok for blacks to vote along race lines but it's not for whites. Many are responding quite well. Obama won the votes of many, to borrow a phrase, "hardworking white Americans," in Wisconsin, M...

Libertarian Bob Barr Challenging McCain?s Presidential Bid

Obama Recommended for the Presidential Medal of Freedom
2008-05-10 09:53:00 As much as the Neocon disagrees with Barack Obama on virtually every major policy issue… we are forced to stand up in respect, and recognize Mr. Obama’s outstanding contribution to America on one issue: Mr. Barack Obama has finally rid the nation of the Clinton scourge; The Clinton sense of entitlement, the Clinton lies, the ...
The Democratic Presidential Race: A View from Pennsylvania
2008-05-10 00:53:00 by Dave Lindorff The results in Tuesday’s twin primaries—Barack Obama by 14 percent in North Carolina and Hillary Clinton by 2 percent in Indiana—confirmed that Clinton is finished as a contender. Barack Obama will be the Democratic candidate for president this fall. Clinton, the private-schooled, Wellesley and Yale-educated millionaire lawyer from Chicago, who first tried to present herself as a White House veteran, and then, in recent weeks, as a NASCAR mom on Food Stamps, and who in Pennsylvania resorted to cheap race-baiting and red-baiting in an effort to derail her opponent, has failed. Barack Obama, another private-schooled Harvard and Yale-educated lawyer, but one who actually did have to work his way up the economic ladder, won decisively in North Carolina, even drawing a significant number of working-class white voters in a state where white voters have not traditionally voted for candidates with dark skin. As a resident of Pennsylvania, I can only express a...
May polls & Presidential Elections
2008-05-09 23:39:00 In Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, Karl Rove, former adviser to President Bush wrote that presumptive Republican nominee John McCain is realistic enough to know he will fall behind Mr. Obama once the Democratic nomination is settled. He’s steeled himself and his team for that moment. And he’s comforted by a belief that there will be plenty ...

Mind Games in the Presidential Race [Digg]
2008-05-09 15:59:00 What about this age issue? Is it a concern? Has John McCain lost his bearing ? I might argue he lost his bearing a long time ago with regard to conservatism but I somehow don?t think that is what Obama meant. It is true that as we age our minds get a little slower and we forget things and of course we are more susceptible to brain diseases...

Market historian votes in on the Presidential election cycle
2008-05-09 07:00:00 "The Presidential Election cycle is one Wall Street truism that has historically proven to have merit for investors," explains advisor and market historian Jim Stack (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=1993).In- his InvesTech Market Analyst (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=1993) the advisor reviews the basics of this cycle, its historical reasoning, and what the could portend for the market's action between now and Election Day."Since we are in the midst of an election year, this cycle warrants review. During the 4-year Presidential Election cycle there is a characteristic variation in annual stock market returns that is evident in historical data and actually makes sense when one thinks about it. "Basically, it boils down to just 'good politics.' Politicians worth their salt understand the goal: get anybad economic news over early during your term and have the economy back on track and humming along by Election Day. "Consequently, the...

Hillary needs 72% of the remaining superdelegates to win, if I read it right. Oh sweet, sweet justice. Hillary really deserves to lose this one badly. I'm glad she's decided to stick it out longer. Every time she spews out another negative ad, McCain can gauge the reaction to it, and work those angles from there. She really is doing the Republicans a favor by staying in. 2008-04-30 15:45:00 The New Jersey Senate Republican primary to some extent appears to be similar to the current status of the Presidential race. Third Party Presidential Candidates In May
2008-04-29 01:22:00 We felt kinda good about providing an update on the third party Presidential candidates this month. It didn't get as many comments as other things might, but it's somewhat fulfilling to cover those that are out there struggling to campaign without the recognition that top-dollar candidates do. Maybe one day the Presidential elections in the US will be set up so that it's all on public broadcasting and campaigns don't need to accrue a combined $859.4 million + that could be spent on pressing issues. Anyhow, here's the update for third party events in May.

The Merovignian ancestry of the 2008 presidential candidates
2008-04-27 08:10:00 From: /*All in the Dragon Family <http://watch-unto-prayer.or-g/dragon-lineage.html>*/With- the presidential election proceeding as planned, the United States is as polarized as ever and, once again, many conservative Christians are under the false impression that it matters who is elected in November. This report is an effort to demonstrate in practical terms that, at this point, it makes no difference who wins the presidential election. Fears about a Bush-Clinton dynasty which could rule the United States for 28 years, or more, become even more unsettling with the discovery that /all/ of the presidential candidates belong to the same dynasty. It is called the Merovingian dynasty and it claims to have a long history, being nearly has ancient as the human race. The good news is that God destroyed this evil dynasty once before, in the Great Flood (Gen. 7), and He is about to do it again (Rev. 19).The term "Merovingian" is said to derive from Merovee who was King of the ...

At least $140,000 has come in chunks of between $1,000 and $2,300, the maximum permitted under federal law. Cavnar of Milagro Exploration and his wife, Gracie, have helped the Illinois Democrat raise at least another $50,000 by helping host a fundraiser earlier in the campaign. The sorrows of race and gender in the 2008 presidential election
2008-04-22 11:55:00 by Robert Jensen This is an expanded version of a talk given to the University Democrats at the University of Texas at Austin, April 16, 2008. It may seem odd to talk of sorrows around race and gender in politics when we are a few months away from being able to vote for a white woman or a black man for president of the United States. When I was born in 1958, any suggestion that such an election was on the horizon would have been laughed off as crazy. In the first presidential campaign I paid attention to as an eighth-grader in 1972, Shirley Chisholm — who four years earlier had become the first black woman to win a seat in Congress — was to most Americans a curiosity not a serious contender. Today, things are different. Today Hillary Clinton’s and Barack Obama’s battle for the Democratic Party nomination suggests progress. Though the pace of progress toward gender and racial justice may seem slow, we should take a moment to honor the people whose struggles for ...

Another stupid presidential decree
2008-04-21 22:21:00 President Mubarak issued another stupid presidential decree in the weekend . Mubarak decided to divide Egypt more and more municipally , he divided the Governates in to another new Governates , new Governates came to life like the 6 of October Governate and Helwan Governate !! Some areas were taken from their old Governates and included in other Governates. People are very angry especially the locals , you may have heard that the people at the Baharia Oasis were so angry and protested , about 5000 citizens in this very far away place because of the new arrangement that made them follow the Mania Governate instead of Giza , of course the interior ministry had to deal with the protests by its way , they sent their infamous anti-riots forces there , thank God the army was not involved. The Security forces went there to secure the iron mines , oh yes we got Iron mines and the security was afraid that they would be closed The people protested because according to the Pr...

If the Democrats lose another presidential election, this time it won?t be
2008-04-18 15:25:00 Low-information voter indeed. In the previous two presidential election campaigns, Al Gore and John Kerry, starched at the collar to begin with, ran campaigns prudent to the point of pussyfooting. Both Democrats attempted to court the corporate interests that helped bring Bill Clinton success. Meanwhile, those who had sought to take it away, the religious right, were given a wide berth. By way of post mortems, alternative media and progressives have spent the years since heaping abuse and scorn on the Democrats for the timid campaigns they ran. Give the public some credit, went the refrain. Hew to the Democrat ideals which saw this country through a Depression and a world war. If you truly respect the Republicans, instead of appeasing them, emulate their rock-ribbed conviction. We haven’t heard much talk like this lately, have we? The current presidential campaign cycle kicked off with the likes of Dennis Kucinich, an unreconstructed leftist, and John Edwards, an advocate of ...
TAKE ACTION: Urge Presidential Candidates to Support Jimmy Carter
2008-04-18 07:34:00 From Jewish Voice for Peace:Former President Jimmy Carter, predictably, is being denounced for meeting with the exiled leader of Hamas in Syria on Friday. Carter's critics are wrong. Talking to Hamas, which won the January 2006 Palestinian legislative elections, is a necessary part of creating peace. As Carter himself said, "There's no doubt in anyone's mind that, if Israel is ever going to find peace with justice concerning the relationship with their next-door neighbors, that Hamas will have to be included in the process." Please sign our petition -- co-sponsored by A Just Foreign Policy -- to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain asking them to support former President Carter and support talks with Hamas: http://salsa.democracyinaction.-org/o/301/t/1849/petition.jsp?p-etition_KEY=1175 Jimmy Carter knows that, according to Haaretz, 64% of Israelis have said they want their government to talk with Hamas about a cease-fire.[A] He knows tha...

ABC News Presidential Debate: You Don't Need A Weatherman To Know Which Wa
2008-04-17 05:10:00 After watching that ABC News presidential debate moderated by Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, I am reminded by a famous quip from a famous Chicago ink-stained wretch.Mike Royko. Now off the planet. The Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist left the Chicago Sun-Times for the Tribune after it was sold to Rupert Murdoch with the parting shot: "No self-respecting fish would be wrapped in a Murdoch paper." No self-respecting person would wrap themselves in the plethora of Praying Mantis political analysis following what appeared to be a debate wrapped in a Murdoch paper. It was like the National Enquirer dug up all the UFO reporters. Executive summary: Hillary admits Obama can beat McCain but "I can do a better job." Obama: "I am the better candidate but she can win." Obama's fresh garbage stinks more than Hillary's rotting scandals. This after Charlie to Obama on the "bitter" question: "Don't you think some people find it patronizing?"Obama: "Not the first time I've manged up a...

National Anti-Corruption drive began at Presidential Palace: Minister
2008-04-13 04:06:00 Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa reacted sharply to a statement made by his senior in the National Mandate Party (PAN), Amien Rais, which described the presidential palace as "the cradle of corruption" in the country. He said Amien Rais`s statement was incorrect because the government`s anti-corruption efforts during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s administration were begun at the presidential palace, of all places. Speaking to the press at the presidential office on Friday night, Rajasa said, " the government now is very consistent in enforcing the law through what the president calls the `National Program against Corruption. `And this was launched from the presidential palace." He said compared with what previous administrations had achieved, the present government`s performance in fighting corruption was "really extraordinary" while its impact was being directly felt by the public. The present government was most consistent in combating illegal logging, ille... |
