The Bourques, Father and Sons, Share Pride in Each Other's Accomplishments
2011-11-27 23:15:00
By Bruce Berlet Ray Bourque, one of the greatest defensemen in hockey history, speaks as confidently as ever at age 50 while continuing to carry plenty of clout, especially when it comes to discussing his sons. Chris Bourque, 25, a three-time Calder Cup winner with the Hershey Bears, is off to his best start as a pro, which comes as little surprise to his Hall of Fame father. ?He should do well because he?s a sixth-year pro and has had other good years in the AHL and a really good year in Europe last year,? dad said of Chris, who has 10 goals and 16 assists in 19 games while playing on the Bears? top line, with All-Star center and fellow alternate captain Keith Aucoin and former Hartford Wolf Pack left wing and captain Boyd Kane. ?Everything has kind of come together for him, so it?s kind of his time, as he has done a lot of good things in the AHL and hopefully will get an opportunity (with the parent Washington Capitals) and take advantage of it. It?s a tough lineup to crack, but p...

Well, it’s playoff time, and we think there’s no better way to show pride in the Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals (go Cards!), Texas Rangers, or Detroit Tigers than by donning their colors and logo on your WordPress.com blog. It’s like a digital rally cap — no true fan should be caught without one! Head over to the theme showcase to activate an MLB theme on your blog, or start a new blog just for this occasion, and get root, root, rooting for your favorite team!
Farzad Golpayegani: Persian pride comes in fives
2011-08-21 02:01:00
?Five? is the fifth full album by Persian composer, musician and visual arts artist Farzad Golpayegani. Five released in June 2011.This album is not a heavy or metal record in anyway (nor was ?Four?), this time he is getting Electronic Music involved and tries to achieve a kind of music easier to listen, but at the same time the technical playing goes on; this album includes the most complicated and extreme solos on 7-string electric guitar in comparison to previous records.Like most of his previous records, ?Five? is a self-released album and is totally produced by the artist himself.Farzad would like to to dedicate the album to his loving mother ?Farideh? also many thanks goes to Parsa Golpayegani, Yusuf Ozmenekse and all other friends for their support.Tracks of this record: Intro, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83 and 84For hear samples and buy MP3 version or physical CD (outside Iran) please visit Store page or refer to the following link:

Chicago Gay Pride Parade 2011: Photos
2011-06-27 00:23:00
It was a sunny day with temperatures in the 70's; perfect weather for the Chicago Gay Pride Parade this year!  The streets on Halsted and Broadway were lined with onlookers who were as colorful as the people in the parade.  This was a time for all GLBT to celebrate their lives. It was a day where police ignored open drinking and scantily clothed bodies in high heels.  The streets were filled with people of all ages all trying to get a good spot behind the barricades for the parade. Politicians, corporations, City/State agencies and not-for-profits were well represented, with many dressed in stilettos, purple wigs and bikinis.  The floats were opulent, the music loud with a heavy bass and the...
Tires on Gay Pride Floats Slashed Overnight
2011-06-26 18:40:00
According to a Chicago Tribune post, more than 30 Gay Pride parade floats had their tires slit last night. Associated Attractions Enterprises, Inc at 4800 South Halsted reported this morning that more than 30 floats that were being stored for Chicago's 42nd Annual Gay Pride Parade had two or more tires slit. When employees left last night at 8PM everything was secured but found the damage this morning when they returned at 5AM.This really does stink, it just sounds as though someone is a bit upset that we have finally achieved some type of equality with the recently passed Civil Unions taking place in Illinois and New York's recently voted in Marriage Equality.  I've heard that the parade will...
Prepare for Chicago's Gay Pride Parade on June 26
2011-06-24 16:00:00
This is a reprint of a post from 2009 Are you ready for this year's Pride Parade?   Last year it was estimated that almost 450,000 people watched the Chicago Gay Pride Parade - more are expected this year!   This year marks the 42nd Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York and the LGBT Community has a lot to celebrate - we've come a long way since then, but let's make sure that we're all prepared and have a great time.   There have been a lot of changes to the parade rules this year as well as the addition of police barricades throughout the entire route of the parade.  Which means that you won't be able to...
AT&T to boost their cell network for Gay Pride Parade
2011-06-23 16:00:00
Photo Credit: kiwanja via Flickr CC In anticipation of a record gathering crowd in Boystown for the 42nd Annual Gay Pride Parade, AT&T is boosting their network for the weekend to make sure that all of those iPhone calls get through.AT&T is one of the main cell carriers of the Apple iPhone 4, and as we know, every respectable gay man has an iPhone (oops, I don't, I have the HTC Incredible - but then I'm not respectable : -) so with the beefed up network you'll be sure to get that call - or text.If you've attended the parade in the past you know that dropped calls, delayed text messages is the way of life during the parade when...

Rahm is the First Jewish Mayor - Where is the Pride?
2011-05-16 13:00:00
On May 16, 2011, Rahm Emanuel is being sworn in as Mayor of Chicago - the first Jewish mayor of the City of Chicago. My wife asked me, "Aren't you proud of the fact that Rahm is being sworn in as the first Jewish mayor of Chicago?"  I hesitated, as Jews often do, before responding.  Then, "Yeah, I guess I am.  Its a big thing."  She responded, "You're right it's a big thing, but I don't see much discussion about it."I'm not a religious man - as people define "religious" - but I am proud to be what I am.  And, I am proud to say that I have spent years talking to friends and strangers about "famous Jewish people."  In...

National Atheists Pride Week
2011-03-25 14:00:00
This week (March 20-26) is National Atheists Pride Week.  Who knew?  People who are atheists are encouraged to put an A as their profile picture on Facebook.  No comment on that! The first thing I thought of when I saw this was my first job.  I was sixteen and worked at a bank.  When filling out an information sheet, I was asked about my religion.  My parents told me to put agnostic, but I couldn't remember the word.  The Vice President of the bank wrote "atheist."  I knew it wasn't right, but she wouldn't change it and word quickly spread amongst my fellow coworkers that were mostly "Catholic" that I was a heathen! Now it's funny, but at the time, it was...

Speak as little as possible of oneself.  (I can probably do that.)Mind one's own business.  (I can definitely do that.)Avoid curiosity.  (Maybe I'll just skip this one.)Do not want to manage other people's affairs.  (I can do this if it has nothing to do with my children.)Accept contradiction and correction cheerfully.  (Oh boy, don't I do this at work?)Pass over the mistakes of others.  (I'm kind of iffy on this one.)Accept blame when innocent.  (Oh I don't think so!)Yield to the will of others.  (Do I have to?)Accept insults and injuries.  (I do this at work, too.)...

"HOPE" -- The NEW voter apathy
2010-10-08 00:30:00
I have held my tongue so long, out of respect for those that I truly respect in this political community, but that is over now. It is amazing to me how so many Democrats are actually surprised, and frankly, struggling to find new and valid excuses for the man on the road to making the "WORST PRESIDENT EVER" look like something of a work horse. Sure, President Obama has accomplished some incrementally important things in his first couple of years in office.  I am now in a place where I can comfortably and confidently say "I told you so" about this President of HOPE.  I said from the get go that this President was no liberal.  I said from the beginning he was no friend of the gay.  I said from the beginning that his HOPE message was inconsistent with his political and personal history in public life.  I knew he wouldn't deliver.  I knew his message was really "You should HOPE that some of this will happen, because it should, but I am not going to get m...

Fagënhag captures noteworthy looks from Pride 2010
2010-06-29 06:33:00
Pride is an excuse to get the brightest, gaudiest, skimpiest clothes from your closet and combine them into one attention-grabbing look. While some may choose the "clever slogan shirt" and a pair-of-shorts look, others brought out the big guns. The people we found elevated their everyday style, or decided to be walking rainbows. ...

2010-06-28 21:27:00
While Memorial Day may be the unofficial start to summer around the country, Chicago knows it's not quite time to bust out the cut-off jean shorts until the annual Gay Pride Parade. (And let's face it, after the parade, all self-altered denim really should be re-buried in your closet.)The North side all but shuts down for the colorful (and crowded...and hot....and kinda naked) party. I share with you now, a recap of the 2010 Gay Pride Parade. In the comfort of your own climate-controlled, free-of-Speedo-clad-drunks-swea-ting-on-you home or office. How was your Pride Weekend?
2010-06-28 16:42:00
Gay Pride 2010 didn't turn out the way I thought it would.  I had planned to walk with the Chicago Spririt Brigade, as I had done last year, but ended up watching the parade instead. When we got out of bed on Pride Sunday the skies darkened and the clouds opened up and poured rain all over the Chicagoland area.  Storm warnings were announced and several weather sites were predicting rain for most, if not all, of the day.  I contacted my friends that had planned to go to the Parade and we collectively sighed and said "Everything says it's gonna rain all day." So we begrudingly cancelled on going to the Gay Pride Parade....a sad thing indeed! But then.....the skies...

I'm going to the 41st Chicago Gay Pride Parade, in fact I'm going to be in the parade! For the second year in a row I'll be walking with the Chicago Spirit Brigade, our very own gay cheerleaders and dance squad!I had such a great time last year that I was happy to accept the offer to walk with CSB again this year - although my arms were a bit tied after holding a sign up for the entire route, I was full of energy.I can't tell you how exciting it was to walk the parade route and watch people's faces light up when they saw CSB, it was heartwarming.  CSB does so much for the community that it's...
