Four-Time Pro Bowl TE Alge Crumpler To Tennessee
2008-03-04 00:21:00
After being released last month by the Atlanta Falcons, tight end Alge Crumpler agreed to a two-year contract with the upstart Titans.Transferring from one anemic offense to another, Crumpler will have a significant uphill battle with an embattled offense that struggled profusely last season to find the endzone. During his first three seasons in Atlanta, the former second round pick out of the University of North Carolina was hampered by low reception and yardage total, but witnessed his productivity accelerate from 2004-2006. Crumpler compiled at least 48 receptions, 774 yards and five touchdowns en route to consecutive Pro Bowl appearances. Within that same span, Titans starting tight ends managed a woeful 29 receptions, 370yards and two scores at the very least. Quarterback Vince Young will receiver a much needed boost in the addition of Crumpler and a security blanket that he has not been privy to during his two seasons in Tennessee.

Chris Cooley shines at the Sean Taylor Pro Bowl
2008-02-11 19:25:00
Final stat line was 3 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown. Per the Post: Owens' first touchdown and one by the Washington Redskins' tight end Chris Cooley from a Hasselbeck pass helped the NFC cut the margin to 27-21 at halftime. Interesting coincidence that Cooley was taking passes from the guy his now head coach mentored. If Jim Zorn can enable Matt Hasselbeck to pass touchdowns to Chris Cooley, I have every confidence he can do so with others as well. Cooley will not be stopped. (By the way, for a very entertaining article on the perhaps changing nature of the NFL tight end, please head over here at Mile High Report. I enjoyed the post, you may as well.) The AFC was held to one sack by Vanden Bosch, and without having watched every single snap of the game I can only probabilistically claim that Chris  Samuels wasn't responsible. So maybe he had a good game too. Or maybe he didn't. Nothing here informs either way. The NFC, just like the Redskins against Buffalo, honored ...

Pro Bowl Open Thread: Goodbye, Football
2008-02-10 21:52:00
The 2008 Pro Bowl airs on FOX at 4:30 PM (ET), and despite the general boredom of the NFL's All-Star game, this is the last time we'll see a Buffalo Bill suit up until July. Sad. So this is our final open thread of the 2007-08 NFL season; feel free to use it to discuss the game, or probably more realistically, where your mind is wandering during the game. Good luck to Aaron Schobel - the lone Bill to suit up in this game, he'll see extensive time on Norv Turner's defense today. Make us proud, Aaron. Also, a quick programming note: the workload of a final college semester, coupled with the continued search for my first post-college job, may limit my participation on Rumblings this coming week. Posting will remain as steady (and daily) as ever, but I probably won't be as prominent in the comments section. If any of you guys have anything you'd like to share, write it up in a diary and we'll get as many of those to the front page this coming week as we can. Go Bills! Go...
Pro Bowl open thread, bloggers Zorn over Zorn hiring (see what I did thar!!
2008-02-10 19:35:00
This is your Pro Bowl open thread, we'll get into it here in a minute. In the meantime, lots of other great bloggers went unnoticed in my last blogger roundup which. One of my favorite blogs, My Brain Says Rage, is none too happy with this hire. They open with Jim Fucking Zorn? and don't stop: "We're proud that our search was diligent, thorough, and resulted in today's announcement," said owner Dan Snyder, who will hopefully die in a car accident. "Jim's track record and reputation as a player, great teacher, and as a coach makes us confident that they will translate to success for the Redskins." No, he is going to give us three mediocure seasons until you fire him and hire Vince Lombardi's dead corpse to replace him. That's funny. Deuce of Davenport channels Billy Maddison: I went to a football game and a donkey show broke out. Wow. What can you say about the debacle that is the Washington Redskins? If you're Vinny Cerrato, you say "Who done what in the who?" and grab Mr...
To Watch, or Not to Watch? The Pro Bowl Question.
2008-02-09 20:06:00
I don't know about you readers but I've never really been much of a pro bowl guy. When I was younger I'd would tune in to watch my favorite players start and then I would quickly lose interest after about a quarter of unstrategic, minimal effort gameplay. To celebrate today's game I'm going to give you a little taste of what I do like about the Pro Bowl. Here are some great Pro Bowl moments that stand out in my mind.Larry Allen Bench Press CompetitionWhen it comes to the Pro Bowl I've always enjoyed the little festivities and games and surround the game itself. I still remember the ranting and raving that followed Larry Allen winning the 2006 NFL Pro-bowl "Strongest Man" competition. Offensive guard Larry Allen, then a Dallas Cowboy, bench pressed a record 43 repetitions of 225lbs. He is big.Fun with MascotsWho doesn't love mascots? Whatever the game lacks in tenacity and physicality the mascots make up for in their pregame antics. My Favorite Pro Bowl Play EverAs you listen to...
FRED TAYLOR PRO BOWL !!!
2008-02-08 22:03:00
First off, this makes my head hurt... Peyton Manning handing off to Fred Taylor!!!???!! No, I didn't forget, it's just that the Pro Bowl as an event and an experience is completely off my radar.  I appreciate the honor that Fred's got, but as for actually following the game, I just can't get into it. But, if you're curious, here's a few links about Fred's experience in Hawai'i. The Honolulu Advertiser discusses how Fred Taylor and Linebacker Mike Vrabel are the two players this week who have had the longest wait to get to the Pro Bowl. In this New University Online essay Tyler Davis discusses his development as a fan of Fred Taylor through a "rookie card".  It's worth a read: Amazingly, watching Taylor play was as euphoric as I could have imagined. Picasso couldn't have appreciated art the way I appreciated watching Taylor run with the football. He was always the sharpest, fastest, quickest and most agile player on the field. I couldn't even sleep on Saturday n...

Packers prepare for Pro Bowl
2008-02-07 12:59:00
The Pro Bowl is this Sunday and several members of the Green Bay Packers are at work trying to win one for the NFC.The Packer coaching staff was chosen to lead the squad after losing the NFC Championship game, and they're currently trying to get the players all on the same page.Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin is keeping sort of a mini-diary of the experience over at the Green Bay Packers official website.Of the experience, Philbin writes, "The fun part is you're getting guys from 15, 16 different teams. Football is not that complicated, but sometimes the language is, and you have to work through some of that stuff. What they think is a '6 route' we may call a 'hook route.' There's some of that you have to correlate between the systems. We're just working through some of that stuff, but overall they did a pretty good job for Day 1."Cornerback Al Harris is keeping a diary as well, and it sounds as if he'll be pretty well prepared for Sunday."Practice was pretty laid-back," ...

Prelude To A Comback? John Lynch Named To Pro Bowl
2008-01-23 02:20:00
Denver Broncos safety John Lynch has been named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, the National Football League informed the Broncos on Tuesday. Lynch initially was selected as a first alternate to the league's annual all-star game, but an injury to Indianapolis safety Bob Sanders resulted in him being chosen to participate in the Pro Bowl for the fourth consecutive season and ninth time in his career. His nine career Pro Bowl selections as a safety mark the second-highest total in NFL history, trailing only the 10 Pro Bowl nominations earned by Ken Houston from 1970-79 with the Oilers and Redskins. Lynch joins cornerback Champ Bailey as the Broncos' representatives at the Pro Bowl, which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu at 2:30 p.m. MST and televised by FOX. A 15-year player who has spent the last four seasons in Denver, Lynch appeared in 13 games (12 starts) in 2007 and ranked second among the Broncos' defensive backs with 62 tackles (48 solo). He also p...

Fred Taylor: Pro Bowl Bound after all...
2007-12-21 05:49:00
In what can only be described as a terrible way to go to Hawaii, Fred Taylor will in fact be in this year's Pro Bowl. Willie Parker broke his fibula against the Rams tonight, which should mean that he stays home for the Pro Bowl.  Fred, as the first alternate, joins Greg Jones, who's also going to the Pro Bowl as an alternate due to a leg injury. It seems pretty weird that all of a sudden big name athletes are breaking their Fibula.  Jeremy Shockey and now Willie Parker, that's a rough deal.  Especially for the Steelers who have somewhat degraded over the last few weeks.  They even had to survive a shootout with the Rams. But, that aside, Fred will make his trip to Hawaii.   More "Raiders" Focus tomorrow. -Chris
Fred Taylor Could get his First Pro Bowl Appearance
2007-12-21 02:53:00
The Pittsburgh Steelers RB, Willie Parker suffered a broken leg on tonight's SECOND play of the game.  The Steelers defeated the St. Louis Rams 41-24.  Pittsburgh suffered a HUGE blow losing Parker to injury, and he could miss the rest of the season (including the playoffs).  Parker, who
Simply put, Fred Taylor deserves to be in the Pro Bowl
2007-12-21 00:19:00
Even though we just had our Pro Bowl Snubs post, I would like to specifically look at one of those snubs in Fred Taylor and break down his case as to why he should playing in Hawaii in February. Is this 2007 or 1997? You would think it would be '97 with the way Fred Taylor is playing this season. Taylor has been very productive this season, especially the last 4 games.Taylor has put up 1,091 yards rushing on 216 carries, with a 5.1 avg. His last 4 games have been phenomenal, 487 yards, 71 carries, 6.8 avg. Taylor also has the AFC's two longest TD runs of 80 and 76 yards.Taylor is 6th in the league in rushing. Willie Parker has 104 more carries than Taylor but still only had 226 more yards. Joseph Addai has more carries and still less yards than Taylor. Taylor still had Maurice Jones-Drew on his team and Parker and Addai are by themselves. Some can say what did Taylor do the first half of the season? But just look at Addai's last 6 games:Last Six Games:Taylor: 617 yards, 107 carrie...
Who Wants to Go to the Pro Bowl?

The final two weeks of the NFL season mean only one thing: We’re less than two months away from the Pro Bowl. And guess what? State Farm, the NFL, and Howie Long are trying to do the impossible. They’re trying to generate interest in the least important football game in America by sending you there for free. All you need to do is fill out this form. You know what, this might actually be a contest you can win. How many people do you think are sitting around trying to figure out how they can get to the Pro Bowl? Seven? Twenty-two? It’s also worth checking out the site so you can get a look at Howie Long prancing around in a Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts. I can just picture him strolling around the beach, attempting to convince some young co-eds that he used to be a star in the NFL.

Barnett, Woodson left off Pro Bowl team
2007-12-19 01:04:00
Bigger than the news of who made the Pro Bowl team announced Tuesday was who was left off the team. Perhaps the two most deserving players on the Green Bay Packers are left off the roster.Neither middle linebacker Nick Barnett nor cornerback Charles Woodson were voted to the NFC squad. However, both are first alternates to play in Honolulu. If someone were to get hurt, they're in.Barnett has had his best season as a pro, and has been a big reason the Packers are 12-2 this year. It's a travesty that Patrick Willis is on the team ahead of Barnett. Willis may be very good for a rookie, and he may have more tackles than Barnett, but Barnett has been more of a playmaker. Barnett has four sacks to Willis's one and two interceptions to Willis's zero. It's also a shame that Woodson wasn't named to the team as well. Woodson has been more of a game changer than almost any defensive player in the league. His two touchdowns this year changed the complexion of an entire game for the Green B...
