The duties of life are commensurate to its duration, and every day brings its task, which if neglected, is doubled on the morrow. But he that has already trifled away those months and years, in which he should have laboured, must remember that he has now only a part of that of which the whole is little; and that since the few moments remaining...

How To Save Money Through Procrastination
2008-05-09 17:26:00
After reading Tina’s blog post on “ideas to keep your stuff under control”, I was reminded of a buying strategy that I was taught in Wealth Academy seminar. photo: wilhei55 Since a year ago after attending the seminar, I was taught to ask myself 2 questions before I dish out my credit card or cash at the cash counter, which I found to be very useful. Let me share with everyone here. 1. When you see something that you really like, ask yourself, “How will buying this thing help me achieve my dreams? Will it change my life for the better?” Then… 2. Ask yourself the next question, “Considering that I invest this money at a 4 percent interest rate, how much can I get back after 10 years? After 20 years? Do I really want to spend this money?” It’s pretty funny if you come to think about it. Most people procrastinate most of the time. But the moment it comes to shopping, they suddenly lose the temptation to procrastinate. And soon, th...

Save yourself from Procrastination
2008-04-18 00:00:00
Procrastination will always been a difficult obstacle to overcome whether you’re a student, a working adult, a parent, or just a plain bum. Procrastination is next to human nature to some, which typically manifests as behavior that deferments any action, important or mundane to a later time. Filipinos have a special name to this attitude, the Maña Habit. Procrastination hurts To the procrastinator, he or she may think that by putting things off until he’s in the “mood” to do them is a good thing because he’ll be able to have the motivation to work. In reality however, he or she is not only losing time to do his work but loosing the opportunity to do work. Confusing? Not really. Just think about it. While waiting for the opportunity to get motivated to come, there’s always the chance that it may not come at all which puts the procastinator in the position of cramming to the last second till the deadline. I’ll conceed that many people do...
Procrastination Attack! Beat the Clock
2008-04-15 23:00:00
I have to admit, one of my big vices is coffee.  I drink different kinds, but as I sit and write or do any other work at my desk in the evening and into the night, you will usually see a cup of Java close to me. To make this posting make any sense, I must also admit that I really don't like to do laundry, to take out garbage or to deal with dirty or clean dishes.  (a domestic goddess I am not...) In the last 2 weeks, I have decided to use this Joe-drinking habit to my advantage.  It now helps me fight procrastination. While I love coffee, I don't drink it very fast.  Frequently, it will get cold before the cup is even half empty.  So, when I go to take a drink I decide to get up and throw it in the microwave to heat it up.  That takes 1 minute.  When I brew my coffee, it takes about 8 minutes from the time I get out the stuff to make it and the time it is done.  That is not long . . . Most you will agree that neither 8 minutes or 1 min...

Trick to Fight Procrastination
2008-03-29 20:15:00
Live your life with a plan!  Make sure that what you do is not by default.  Be on Purpose!  Many people loose track of their focus and goals because of procrastination.  Does that sound like you?  If so, try this technique I read about in the Early to Rise newsletter.  The next time that you find yourself putting things off:Sit in a chair and do nothing.  Sit still ---- very still!  Do not read.  Do not listen to music.  Do not watch T.V. Do not talk to anyone.  Do not do anything!  Just sit very still and do nothing. After about 10 or 15 minutes, you will get very uneasy.  You will start to be aware of each precious minute passing you by while your goals are not being accomplished.  Before you know it, your motivation will be reactivated and you'll be off and running! Try this and let me know how it worked for you!  I would love to hear your experiences and thoughts. To your success!

Masking procrastination with work
2008-03-08 18:00:00
Procrastination is definitely the evil brother of productivity. While it doesn’t necessarily mean you do nothing, it means that you concentrate on things you don’t need to do, or don’t need to do now. I’ve noticed in my daily routine a special kind of procrastination, which would probably be called borderline procrastination if I had to put a medical term to it. Often when I have to do some work I don’t feel like doing, I will actually go off and do something else, that is still work, but not that important. If I decide for example to write a huge roundup of email applications, I may get bored and start writing another, short post. This is a kind of procrastination, because you are not doing what you’re supposed to, you are giving yourself only the feeling of work, while in fact, you are just escaping your tasks. This is probably more common than I expect, but since theoretically you are still working I would guess most people don’t notice t...
Best Man Speech (Happy National Procrastination Week)

Did you know that this week (March 3-9, 2008) is National Procrastination Week? It is also Newspaper in Education Week (March 3-7) and National Sleep Awareness Week (March 3-9). Reading newspapers, being aware of sleep and actually sleeping more are all perfect ways to procrastinate. I know this from personal experience. So my brother is getting married this weekend, and I have known that I am the best man for many, many months. With this much time to prepare, many people would have a brilliant speech prepared and rehearsed by now. I have nothing. In my search for ideas, I decided to write on my blog (another great way to procrastinate) and hope that folks have advice and suggestions about what to say.In the meantime, I figure that I should share my one idea and try to get some feedback about it. I would love to start the speech by quoting ?The Office? episode when Michael Scott speaks at Phyllis? wedding. He said, ?Webster's Dictionary defines wedding as the fusing of two...

How To Overcome Procrastination ?
2008-02-21 14:25:00
Procrastination can keep you from doing your job well and hurt your career. Here are few things you can do to help you overcome procrastination.1) Give yourself a small reward after you complete a boring task. If you know a coffee and cookie break is waiting for you when you are finished doing something tedious, you will be inspired to get it done.2) You may put off a large project because it seems overwhelming. Break Large Projects into small chunks. Dividing a big job into a series of smaller tasks will make it seem less overwhelming.3) List the things you've been putting off from most to least important, or in order of when each item needs to be completed.Cross off items as you go.4) You may put off starting a task because you don't think you'll have enough time to finish it. For example you have ten minutes left until you can go home. Use the little time you have to do something that will only take a few minutes, such as putting away files. Before you know it, you will get all...
Procrastination and Finances
2008-02-12 14:28:00
Yet another example of what happens when I procrastinate has reinforced my belief that as a tactic in life procrastination is highly underrated. Many things in life will either go away, or rectify themselves if you give them time. Can procrastination be a viable financial planning concept? Procrastination Works In these situation procrastination may actually help you out: Large purchases such as cars or houses. By not doing anything you may actually end up keeping large amounts of money in your investment vehicles and gaining value, and you aren’t paying down large debts that you have accrued. Selling stocks when they are down. If you procrastinated through this last bit of bad times, you most likely held onto some stock that will regain it’s value and appreciate more. Get rich schemes from friends and family, if you wait long enough you will have “missed the boat” but will still have your money too. Procrastination is Very Bad When is procrastination a ba...
Procrastination – Do You Handle It or Does It Handle You?
2008-02-12 00:24:00
Procrastination - Do You Handle It or Does It Handle You? By definition procrastination is the act of deferring tasks to a later time. According to Wikipedia, "The psychological causes of procrastination vary greatly, but generally surround issues of anxiety, low sense of self-worth, and a self-defeating mentality." As true as this is, it is very disconcerting when you note that some forms of procrastination are self-destructive. We all procrastinate in one way or another, even if you didn't think that you did. Accordingly, there are both good and bad procrastination skills. As to the good ones, someone may delay doing a task to do something of more importance. In other words it is a form of prioritization. Even though this may be good, the fact of the matter is that you are going to have to tackle that other task anyway. Otherwise the situation will get worse (like putting off mowing the lawn) and in some cases out of hand. O...

I am Late Blogging about Procrastination
2008-01-28 15:47:00
I hate to admit it but I am a procrastinator. It isn't that I am lazy or don't work hard, but without time clock pressure building up, I have a hard time focusing on a single issue. This has affected my money management, time management and overall well-being. I am not alone in this, Stephen Hawking, the preeminent Physicist of our time said that finding out that he had ALS was the one of the best things that ever happened to him, as it forced him to focus on a certain topic, in his case Physics. He said otherwise he probably would have dabbled away at 1000's of different subjects instead of focusing on one.For me, there is something about the time pressure, or it needed to be done now that focuses me. Perhaps it is that I just see to many possibilities and having no time forces a decision. "A or B, youngish Lad..."That being said I do not miss deadlines or delay others with my issue. It is there on time, even if I work 24-36 hours straight. It isn't fair or proper to make other...

I need to go through my stuff and organize it.  Mainly to find my other notebooks so I can do some editing without confusing myself.  Right now, I've got my brainstorming notebook in use and I'm ready to start editing and organizing my story before I go further with it.  But I need to organize my stuff first so that it won't be a distraction to me.  I'm still sleepy.  I hope I get through this phase with Paxil soon.  I wasn't nauseous this morning after I took it like on previous mornings, so that's a good sign.  (FYI, I discovered that buttered toast helps settle the stomach from Paxil-induced nausea)  Right now, I'm craving something sweet.  (That's PMS induced, I think) The cat keeps running out the door everytime someone opens it today.  It's getting a little frustrating.  She's not allowed outside by herself because she doesn't have any front claws.  I had it done...

Procrastination - How Can I Overcome?
2008-01-13 23:11:00
Oh dear, yes I am the queen of procrastination. I need to get stuff done. I have to get these stuff done... but before that....Procrastination is a type of avoidance behaviour which is characterised by deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Psychologists often cite procrastination as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision. [1] For the person procrastinating this may result in stress, a sense of guilt, the loss of personal productivity, the creation of crisis and the disapproval of others for not fulfilling one's responsibilities or commitments. While it is normal for individuals to procrastinate to some degree, it becomes a problem when it impedes normal functioning. Chronic procrastination may be a sign of an underlying psychological or physiological disorder.Did the Wikipedia quote above said "psychological disorder?" Oh boy... ;)I need to read and apply this, this and this.
Procrastination Killer
2008-01-08 12:29:00
I read the Four Hour Work Week recently. To be honest I read it twice. I would read it again but school has started so I have plenty of cases to read. Among the many wise (and not so wise) words in the book there was a amazing insight into beating procrastination: Tasks take as as much time as you allocate to them. A prime example is BidXL.  I gave myself two weeks in December to get a working version of BidXL up for all my readers to access. I ended up spending 13 days goofing off, and the 14th furiously coding away. Moral of the Story? To keep your fire burning, use a One Year Goal. To get things done on a daily basis, set daily goals.

Shit! I haven't posted in a week. Been procrastinating a lot the past week, as I was clearing my residual annual leave. Took a couple of days off. But since it was a long week, I've decided to set a few goals for myself. They are:Goal 1: Get replacement IC - Done I've been wanting to do this for the longest time. My MyCard crapped out on me. It turns out that you can't do shit at banks when they can't read the fucking chip on the card. And when you want to open a new account at the bank, they need to be able to read the chip so that they can validate that you are who you are against the National Registration Department's (NRD) database. Ain't that a bitch? Well, went in, paid RM10, took a picture and came out within 30 minutes. The only problem is, both the NRD staff I spoke to with (sounds weird), told me two 2 different ETA on when I was able to pick up my new card.
