Rural Network Sharing Can Boost Profits & Penetration: BSNL
2011-08-30 11:01:00 BSNL has proposed a common wireless network installation to provide rural broadband services instead of numerous operators setting up different networks. The plan is to reduce unnecessary costs where one installation is more than sufficient, and can be shared optimally. This can be set up with support from the Universal Services Obligation funds and can significantly reduce wastage of the proposed USO funds. Under this scheme, two operators will be selected in each circle through a bidding process. BSNL have recommended that only one operator is allowed to roll out the network in rural areas which can then be shared through the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) model.
