Four Paths to Real Estate Profits with ETFs
2012-01-26 18:07:00
I’ve spent my investment career following sector momentum, and it’s worked out pretty well. ETFs make it even better. Right now my indicators show a lot of short-term strength in real estate. Personally, I find it hard to believe the housing market has truly bottomed. My colleague Mike Larson recently gave you some good reasons to doubt the housing rally. In my experience, trends (either up or down) endure longer than most people think possible. So it makes sense to at least be aware of the alternatives on both sides. Today I’ll tell you about four paths to the real estate sector with ETFs. I’ll also describe a couple of ways you can make a bearish bet on . . . → Read More: Four Paths to Real Estate Profits with ETFs
Writing Covered Calls For Consistent Profits
2012-01-11 19:03:00
Writing covered calls for income has been a popular investment strategy for investors since standardized option contracts were first introduced in 1973. Many investors are happy with a modest rate of return, as long as it’s fairly predictable and consistent. Or, if you’re a risk loving investor seeking extraordinary returns, it is also possible to use covered call writing more aggressively. Writing Covered Calls The Conservative Way Playing it relatively safe with covered calls means choosing underlying stocks with these attributes: Large market cap. There are 508 stocks with market caps over $10 billion. That’s a good place to start. Even some mid-cap might be okay (if they are not ‘story’ stocks or momentum stocks). But conservative investors should . . . → Read More: Writing Covered Calls For Consistent Profits
Finding Profits in Volatile Energy Markets: Nav Malik
2012-01-03 22:00:00
The Energy Report: Nav, what is your current investment thesis? Nav Malik: Given the commodity price environment, we prefer oil and light-oil plays at the moment. The economics are much more favorable. We also like liquids-rich gas plays, which serve to boost project economics. Given natural gas prices, we’re not as favorable on dry gas plays at this point. TER: You would think of the liquids as icing on the cake? NM: Absolutely. Projects have better economics via more favorable pricing in the liquids. With dry gas around $3.50/thousand cubic feet (Mcf), it’s not as economic to drill purely for gas, but when you add a liquids component to it, that serves to boost the overall production revenue . . . → Read More: Finding Profits in Volatile Energy Markets: Nav Malik

Facebook Profits To Surpass Even Amazon This Year
2011-10-24 14:00:00
Facebook, in its second quarter announced it had amassed US Dollars 800 million in operating income. With US Dollars 1.6 Billion in its kitty & this 50% profit margin is perfectly in alignment with its last year’s USD 2 Billion in revenue & USD 1 Billion in operating income. At this rate of growing its revenue & profit by 50% every six months, it won’t be a shocker if the company achieves an operating income close to USD 2 billion for this year. In comparison, Amazon had a total of USD 513 Million in total after six months (USD 191 Million in Q1 & USD 322 Million in Q2).  So, with 513 Million against 800 Million for first half, anyone can confidently speculate that Facebook will likely be more profitable than Amazon this year. But, Amazon has far more revenue than Facebook, nearly $10 billion per quarter, and Q4 is estimated to be much higher than $10 billion. Last year they had $34 billion in revenue. Q4 is reserved for holiday shopping & results of Q4 are...

Rural Network Sharing Can Boost Profits & Penetration: BSNL
2011-08-30 11:01:00
BSNL has proposed a common wireless network installation to provide rural broadband services instead of numerous operators setting up different networks. The plan is to reduce unnecessary costs where one installation is more than sufficient, and can be shared optimally. This can be set up with support from the Universal Services Obligation funds and can significantly reduce wastage of the proposed USO funds. Under this scheme, two operators will be selected in each circle through a bidding process.  BSNL have recommended that only one operator is allowed to roll out the network in rural areas which can then be shared through the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) model. The NOFN is a good precedent The Rs. 20,000-crore National Optic Fibre Network (NOFN) project is on similar lines, and the network is being laid by BSNL themselves. All the other operators will be allowed to use this wired network to reach broadband services to rural areas. A Cost Cutting Galore If implemented,...

2011-08-23 07:46:00
Reliance Communications, India’s second largest Mobile Firm has reported its Quarterly Net Profit. Compared to last quarter, profits are down a whopping 37%. The telecom service provider posted a 32 per cent decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,682 crore for the April-June quarter due to foreign exchange losses and reduced margins on account of massive cuts in service rates over, although the period does not include the financials of the highly covered Acquisation. Temporary help: Profits in staffing
2009-12-17 14:00:00
"Many companies survived the downturn by cutting staff, and these businesses are hesitant to hire back full-time employees until they are more certain about future revenues," explains George Putnam. In The Turnaround Letter, he suggests, "A likely beneficiary of this caution is the temporary staffing and outsourcing sector." Here are four ideas from his review of the temporary staffing and outsourcing sector."As activity begins to pick up, many slimmed-down businesses will need more manpower, and the cautious ones will turn to the temporary staff providers first, rather than adding permanent employees."Even with this fundamental boost on the horizon, many of the staffing stocks have not performed particularly well recently, as investors have focused on weak results from the last few quarters."While these stocks have all rebounded at least a little from their lows, they are all still well below their levels of mid-2008, and most of them are...

Idea Cellular Q2 Results: Net Profits Grow, Hints At Pricing Pressure
2009-10-27 12:12:00

The revenues have also seen a similar surge by 29% at Rs 2973.9 crore against Rs. 2303.3 crores reported last year. Yahoo Declares Q3 Result – Revenues Dip, Profits Soar
2009-10-21 08:04:00
Yahoo! has declared its third quarter results (pdf) this morning. Its profits have grown more than three times as compared to Q3 2008, whereas, its revenues have taken a 12% hit compared to the same period last year. Its marketing services revenues from both Owned and Operated sites as well as Affiliate sites declined as compared to Q3 2008. US still remains to be its highest revenue generating geography. This sudden surge in the net profits can be attributed to the cost cutting measures taken by Yahoo! in the recent past. Over 1000 layoffs in the recent past served as the major cost cutting measure for Yahoo! This result has come out as a positive sign for Yahoo!, who has been struggling in the recent past by changing three CEOs and fighting a hostile bid by Microsoft. Although Yahoo! and Bing deal is yet to be approved by the antitrust, but analysts predict that as a good chance for Yahoo! to fight back in the global search market share. With the signs of stabilization both insi...

The American Prophet Micheal Moore Profits From CAPITALISM: A Love Story
2009-09-18 14:15:00
Here we go Again. Yet another inner view with Micheal Moore getting accused of making money from a system that he decries is unfair to all and evil. When will he ever shut up and go away? When will he ever quit doing what he does so well, and that is make true docu/mockumentaries about the American Way. He's been doing this for 20 years now. All his films have been right on the American money and come true. All his films have been renowned around the globe for their truthiness. The prophet has made a profit and American capitalists try to paint him as greedy as they are. They try to put him in their boat with them and throw away the key. "Shut Up" you made your money. Now go away. This is their fondest hope. That Micheal Moore would just go away. Usually in the American money system this means "Don't go away mad,(without any money) just go away". "Please for the Love of God and Money, just Go the fuck away Micheal Moore."Nobody upon will ever be able to prove that Micheal Moore...
Mylan (MYL): Patent pending profits
2009-09-16 06:00:00
"It has been estimated that $100 billion of branded drugs will go off patent over the next five years and Mylan (NYSE: MYL) is very well positioned to benefit," says growth stock expert Tom Bishop. In BI Research, he explains, "Mylan has not yet benefited much yet from the focus on healthcare reform, though generics are clearly part of the solution to lowering the cost of healthcare.""Mylan is predominantly a generic drug company that, in the wake of its acquisition of Merck Generics, has $5 billion in sales and 120 ANDA’s pending FDA approval targeting drugs with branded markets totaling $85 billion to fuel future growth."Of these 120 Mylan has thirty-five pending ANDAs that are potential first-to-file opportunities, representing $16.6 billion in annual brand sales."Meanwhile Obama’s healthcare plans call for expanding healthcare coverage to more Americans and making lower cost generic drugs more available. "Run properly, as Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) does, a cloud computing network also offers greater security, greater reliability, and lower costs (thanks to efficiencies of scale)," explains Timothy Lutts. In The Cabot Stock of the Month report, he suggests, "Salesforce.com is very well managed, and in our mind its leadership in cloud computing gives it a fundamental advantage that should translate into growing market share gains and steady revenue flows for years to come.""The company was founded a decade ago by a former Oracle executive, and today it’s a leading vendor of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) services. "But unlike Oracle, which sells software that users install on their own computers, Salesforce.com sells access to its own network, which is where all of its software applications are running. "This business model is called cloud computing, and it makes a lot of sense. Profits of Banks
2009-08-04 09:28:00
After narrowly avoiding the need for Government bailouts, Barclays posted profits of £2.98bn in the first six months of 2009. HSBC also posted profits of $5bn in the first 6 months. This growth in profits was despite a rise in bad debts. International bad debts at Barclays rose from £2.54bn to £4.56bn. The best area of growth was from investment banking. Retail banking is still struggling from recession and rise in mortgage arrears.Whilst these two banks didn't get direct funds from the government, they have benefitted from the taxpayers guarantee to the banking system. The government has agreed to underwrite the whole banking system with guarantees of over £100bn. Quantitative easing has also helped maintain liquidity at a time when interbank lending froze up.Critics of the banks will say that there reckless behaviour created a crisis which required taxpayers to bail them out. Despite the record bailout, it wasn't enough for the banks credit crisis to avoid the deepest recess...

2009-06-20 20:04:00

The artists whose work can be resold without them even knowing. And not the Kerry James Marshall type artists. He recently sold a painting through his gallery, Jack Shainman, at the Miami Basel art fair for $350,000.00.  I am not speaking of him or the other art giants that we read about. I am speaking to most artists who sell their work in the hundreds, maybe up to 10 or 20  thousands of dollars. The auction house artists, such as Mr. Marshall,  are another story. I hope we all get there!  So, you think...

Teva (TEVA): Generic profits
2009-05-19 06:00:00
"Generic drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical, Ltd. (NASDAQ: TEVA) delivered respectable earnings results," says Jack Adamo, who added the stock his Insiders Plus model portfolio."The company's earnings were up 4% on a proforma non-GAAP basis.
