Dali's Dilemma - Manifesto for Futurism (Prog-Rock/Metal)
2008-05-04 09:55:00
By The End Of Tonight & Tera Melos - Complex Full Of Phantoms
2007-11-24 22:02:00
By the End of Tonight distill progressive rock elements in their dark, instrumental metal to create a churning, complex mass of sinister cacophony. For ‘Complex Full of Phantoms’, the group shares disc space with Roseville, California?s Tera Melos, who provide six songs of spastic absurdity. By the End of Tonight offer a technically impressive sound. ...
Ahleuchatistas - Even in the Midst?
2007-11-21 23:54:00
Sounding something like Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Don Caballero, Minutemen, and Ruins all blended together, it goes without saying that Ahleuchatistas are of the most unique prog-rock outfits of recent time. ‘Even in the Midst…’, their fourth full-length release, is a high-energy, frantic, obtuse outing, as the undefinable trio show themselves to be most unbelievably ...
Gordian Knot (Instrumentális Prog Rock)
2007-10-04 18:07:00
3 albumot ígértem, ebb?l kett?t rögtön le is tudok ezzel a post-tal.
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
2007-07-03 22:04:00
This 1974 release was Robert Wyatt’s first album after his accident: a fall from a window that left him a paraplegic. Over the years he has eloquently expressed how that accident saved his life as an artist, forcing him to reconsider his approach to music. Already a composer and singer of remarkable character (important previous ...
Dysrhythmia - Barriers & Passages
2007-06-23 05:36:00
Cerebral, instrumental prog-thrash is what Pennsylvania’s Dysrhythmia have been doing best for quite some time now. ‘Barriers & Passages’ finds the trio entering into tighter, somewhat hardcore territory, as songs like “Bypass the Solenoid” rage with paint-peeling intensity and die-tooled precision. The band, however, still has the ability to drop the math and fall into ...
The Fucking Champs - VI
2007-06-23 05:34:00
On ‘VI’, their fourth album, The Fucking Champs find themselves moving beyond affectionate metal tribute artists to accomplished performers in their own right. The twin-guitar harmony of their self-referential “Champs Fanfare” has a stirring, almost Celtic lilt, and, while the title of “(Are You Channeling) That Crystal Behind You” is an obvious New Age spoof, ...
The Fucking Champs - V
2007-06-23 05:32:00
The trio’s instrumental explorations grow more confident on ‘V’–here, they even extend their twin guitar vision to encompass the more ambient textures of Krautrock, on the majestic “Children Perceive the Hoax Cluster” and the modernist “The Virtues of Cruising.” The trio’s refusal to be pinned down as mere prog rock adventurers equals a series of ...
The Fucking Champs - IV
2007-06-23 05:31:00
The San Francisco prog rock trio the Fucking Champs twist 1970s rock and ’80s heavy metal to their own ends on this high-powered, twin lead guitar-fueled set. That the band doesn’t take itself too seriously is made obvious in the titles to these mostly instrumental pieces, such as “I Love the Spirit World and I ...
Isis - In The Absence Of Truth
2007-06-04 22:43:00
Forward-thinking art/prog metalheads Isis dig deeper and more densely into their musical palette with their fourth album, ‘In The Absence Of Truth’. As with earlier releases, the group’s often droney, mixed-back vocals, intricate drumming, and diverse guitar work paint a complex sonic landscape. With an approach that is equal parts trippy and ferocious, Isis continue ...
Katowice, Poland, The Heart Of Prog Rock?
2007-06-03 17:13:00
I really had not spent a lot of time considering Poland as a hotbed of musical creativity. In my historically challenged world it is the home of Lech Wolesa, and not much else. Well it transpires that Poland is more than just the heartland of the worker revolution, it is the heart of Progressive Rock ...
