Why Protestant Funerals Expose Some of their Worst Theological Errors &
2008-05-02 04:15:00 In an unexpected and bizarre twist of tragedy, a co-worker of mine had her son murdered by a drive-by recently and today was the funeral which I attended. I have another friend who's an elder in an OPC ecclesial community and he often remarks to me that funerals are where you'll consistently hear the most horrific mutilations of the gospel this side of Hades. (I want to reply 'thats cause you're always going to Protestant funerals')It was a sad day for all involved but we needn't add insult to injury by spewing painfully bad doctrine from the pulpit. If it happened once, his soul was pronounced in Heaven more than a dozen times. I'm not for a second going to comment on this young man's character (I didn't know him) but even if I did, I'd assume nothing but the best and I assume he was an upright Christian on good terms with God and man. But what is sad is that through this terrible doctrinal error, this man's soul is the beneficiary not of humble and contrite praye...
Returning To Mother
2008-04-01 02:44:00 Since my wife’s testimony was posted, I’ve met a few well-meaning people who have encouraged me to take a good, hard look again at how my opposition to the Mother was in error. And I must say that, after much consideration and study, I agree with them. Hence, it is our wish to now state that we’ll ...

Why do mainline Protestant leaders oppose Israel?
2008-02-07 14:26:00 Why do mainline Protestant leaders oppose Israel? That question becomes harder to answer when one recalls that Israel is a democratic nation with vigorously independent courts that has not only survived brutal attacks by its Arab neighbors but provided a prosperous home for the children of many Holocaust survivors. As with any other nation, Israel has pursued policies that one can challenge. Some may criticize its management of the West Bank, for example, or its attacks on Hamas leaders. But these concerns are trivial compared with Iran?s announced desire to wipe Israel off the map by using every weapon at its disposal, including (eventually) a nuclear one.The answer, I think, is that many Christian liberals see Israel as blocking the aspirations of the oppressed?who, they have decided, include the Palestinians. Never mind that the Palestinians support suicide bombers and rocket attacks against Israel; never mind that the Palestinians cannot form a competent government; never mind t...

Are Baptists Protestant?
2007-09-16 14:31:00 According to Google, protestant is defined as:“A name for those Christians and churches which separated from the Roman Catholic Church at the Reformation, and for other churches and groups descended from them.”Most historians agree that the protestant Reformation was kicked off on Oct. 31, 1517 when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door at the Wittenberg Castle and began a movement that would shake the contemporary religious landscape. From this information, we can know that protestants date back to the sixteenth century. The question we must answer...do the Baptists predate this revolution and are they associated with it in any way?Baptists can date their religious lineage much farther back than 1517 A.D. In fact, a thorough look at history will show a group of people who hold to the same doctrines as current Independent, Fundamental Baptists during every century since the time of Christ. These groups have not always been called Baptists, but even a casual glance t...

Louisiana Democrats whip out Protestant Godstick on Catholic Frontrunner
2007-08-23 22:32:00 It’s an attack ad on Bobby Jindal, the Republican frontrunner for the office of governor in Louisiana, by the Democratic Party. It’s total bullshit. The article in question (available here for $1.50) is little more than Catholic Apology 101. The source of the cherry-picked phrases in an appropriate colour: Sincerely ...

bill cosby bbq - happy protestants day
2007-07-14 15:35:00 In this country, the 12th July brings with it a lot of tension. In the last few years the Orange Order Parades have passed relatively peacefully, but if you are out when the parades are going by, it feels like the slightest thing could set any one of them off. The government, and the Orange ...
News & Current Events :: Protestant Heads Still Commit to Talk Despite Pope
2007-07-14 11:50:00 Author: Eric Subject: Protestant Heads Still Commit to Talk Despite Pope's ClaimPosted: Sat Jul 14, 2007 5:50 am (GMT -4) Protestant Heads Still Committed to Dialogue Despite Vatican's 'One True Church' Claim Ethan Cole Following the quick response from the head of the world’s Reformed churches, more Protestant denominational heads have spoken out against the Vatican’s reassertion this week of the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church. However, the leaders, although voicing disagreement with the Vatican, noted that the statement is nothing new. “Similar statements and perspectives precipitated the 16th century Reformation nearly 500 years ago,” Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick, president of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, said in a statement Thursday. “At that time Martin Luther said, ‘Popes and councils can err.’ Apparently that is still true today,” he added. Earlier this week, Pope Benedict XVI approved a document which stated that the Roman Catholic Church is t...
About Protestant Pilgrimages
2007-05-15 08:40:00 Evangelicals go essentially to visit the sites of biblical significance on what are primarily educational tours. These in themselves will only perpetuate and reinforce a pietistic faith rooted in the 1st Century, without addressing either the present Middle East conflict or necessarily engaging in theological praxis. The presence of an ancient and Oriental Christianity is either ignored, misunderstood or even criticized for desecrating the archaeological sites with what are often regarded as pagan shrines.Fundamentalist pilgrims visit the Holy Land for similar reasons but with the added schatological dimension, believing themselves to be witnessing and indeed participating in the purposes of God, at work within Israel in these 'Last Days'. They believe they have a divine mandate to support the state of Israel. The third, most recent and smallest category of pilgrimage to emerge is associated with the term 'Living Stones'. These pilgrimages in contradistinction seek to counter the...
A letter to the Global Church from the Protestant Church of Smyrna
2007-05-06 00:00:00 On April 18, 2007 several members of the "religion of peace" tortured, disemboweled and slit the throats of three Christians in Turkey. I'm a little late in writing about this, because I just learned of it recently. We prayed for the families of the martyrs at church today. The Protestant Church of Smyrna has asked believers around the world to pray that someday at least one of the murderers will come to faith in Christ because of the testimony in death of Tilman Geske, the German missionary, and the testimonies in death of Necati Aydin and Ugur Yuksel, the first martyrs for Christ out of the Turkish Church. I'll certainly be praying for this as well as for Muslims all over the world to wake up to the reality of what their religion is all about and that justice will be served in this and all other terrorist attacks all over the world. 2006-12-29 20:26:04 Author: Eric Subject: News: Protestants Find Room in Faith for Mary Posted: Fri Dec 29, 2006 11:19 am (GMT -5) Growing up in a Lutheran church, the Rev. Roger Prehn rarely heard about the Virgin Mary, except during Christmas. Now a pastor in Orlando, Prehn preaches in a sanctuary with a nearly life-size bronze statue of Mary and the baby Jesus. During advent, the four weeks leading up to Christmas, he leads his congregation in singing the Magnificat -- a prayer Mary sings in the Gospel of Luke. Until fairly recently, devotion to Mary would have caused a scandal in most Protestant churches. Many Protestants still reject Mary's exalted status within Catholicism and worry that honoring her will put her on par with Jesus. But in recent years a growing number of mainline Protestants and evangelicals have started to rethink their centuries-old opposition to revering Mary. ''We've ignored Mary, and now we're recovering her place in salvation history,'' said Prehn, pastor o... |
