2008-08-11 05:13:00
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. In ...
If Sinners Entice You

Friday. Finally. The beginning of what we hope will be an enjoyable weekend. Out of school or work. Some money in our pockets and time on our hands. What will you do this weekend? Whatever you do, whomever you’re with, wherever you go, remember the wise warning of Solomon: “if sinners entice you, do ...

Do not compute the totality of your poultry population until all the manifestations of incubation have been entirely completed. William Jennings Bryan (1860 &endash; 1925)All maxims have their antagonist maxims; proverbs should be sold in pairs, a single one being but a half truth. --William MathewsAlmost every wise saying has an opposite one, no less wise, to balance it. -- George Santayana, _The Life of Reason_
In Need Of Wisdom
2008-06-28 12:30:00
It can be hard to admit that you don’t have all the answers. It can be disheartening to acknowledge that you’re not sure. But the first step to greater wisdom is an acknowledgement of your need. Our knee-jerk reactions when the need for more wisdom hits us are relatively common: More study. More ...

Today’s thought is taken from Proverbs 1:20-21. Make sure that you pause long enough to place your mouse over that reference and read that passage. Maybe even read it a second time. Have you really listened to the message? You’ll hear a lot of noise today. Much of it hasn’t evolved beyond ...

Dealing With Foolishness
2008-05-06 19:39:00
Are you a young parent? If so, today’s thought from Proverbs 22:15 has your name written all over it. It’s not much of a stretch for me to speculate that you very well may see some form of “folly” or “foolishness” exhibited by your child at some point today. If not today, ...

“”If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!’” “We smile as we read the wall plaque in the novelty store. But our smile quickly turns to a frown if truly “Mama ain’t happy.” This is because the wife and mother in a family often “sets the tone” in the home. The “tone” God wants her to set is one of joy, optimism, and a delight in the Lord and in her family. If your family were called upon to describe you, what would they say?” ~ by Martha Peace ~ “The Excellent Wife“ (excellent book - highly recommended!) U hhgggg!  Should I really write on this one?   Our home can be quite chaotic busy with ten kids, including teens and a baby that needs his diapers changed, homeschooling, the phone ringing for me, my kids AND my husband’s small engine repair business that interrupts meals, early in the morning, late at night and even Sundays (though we are CLOSED).  I don’t know how m...

Proverbs - Chapter 17 (Active Rain BLOG)

March 17 - Proverbs Chapter 17 FOR THE REST OF THE DAILY POSTS IN THIS SERIES GOTO: March 16 - Proverbs Chapter 16 PROVERBS - CHAPTER 17:14 "Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out." MY THOUGHTS: Do you know people who like to start a fight (quarrel)? Perhaps you do that with your spouse or they do that to you? I stay far from this now. I had one person that really got me going in the past. That same person likes to try to get me going now, but I stay away. This is another reason why I suggest the study of proverbs. Simple scriptures like this can cause you to think about outcomes of certain actions and knowing that the outcomes are not good with the DAILY scripture reminders you can overcome many obstacles and avoid many pitfalls. Proverbs by Adam, First Grader
2008-02-08 01:35:00
Karmyn at Dreaming What If's... posted a hysterical list of proverbs finished by her first grade son. This was based on Desert Songbird's list from other first graders at The Ice Box. Since we have a first grader handy, I thought we'd give it a shot as well. In the beginning, Adam did about five half-heartedly with nonsensical answers and then he didn't want to do it. I told him that it was for the blog and then he instantly perked up and came up with these gems. Just for the fame! We've even added extra bonus proverbs from the image. Check out other kid's proverbs too!1. Don't change horses... with a bad guy2. Strike while the... baseball flies3. It's always darkest before... night (bzzt!)4. Never underestimate the power of... electricty5. You can lead a horse to water but... not fish6. Don't bite the hand that... punches7. No news is... trouble8. A miss is as good as a ... sir9. St Paul used the word Saint to refer to all the believing Christians, even those still living on earth. Japanese Proverbs: Part 2

Japanese Proverbs: Part 1
2008-02-01 08:42:00
Today I will talking about and interpreting some of my favorite Japanese proverbs. A proverb, simply put, is a phrase the is well known and continuously said. Some of the popular proverbs in English are “When the cat is away, the mice will play.” (which basically means, when the big man is gone everything changes.) and “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” (if you don’t try something you will be able to learn a lesson.) There are many more proverbs and many more types of proverbs. For more information: Wikipedia Definition of Proverb. There are a lot of complications when posting Japanese proverbs because the Japanese use a different writing system than us. For those of you that have the Japanese font you will find the best use of the page. For those people that don’t I included the Latin of the Japanese syllables. Quote One Japanese: 七転び八起き Latin Form (Romaji): nanakorobi yaoki English Literal: stumbling seven times but recovering ei...
