When A Psalm Is Not Your Situation
2008-07-29 20:11:00 Take the time to read this great insight from John Piper on a Bible student’s relationship to the Psalms… Because the Psalms are so personal, they often do not represent the mood or the situation we are in when we read them. For example, a couple mornings ago I read Psalm 142. It says, There is none ...

Turning Anxious Thoughts Into Prayer
2008-06-09 17:29:00 I woke up today with many anxious thoughts. Monday has it's way of doing that to as I face the new week and think of the many things and chores I did not accomplish the week before and the many things and chores I have to do this coming week. I prayed and I was reminded of the verse "Cast your cares upon Him and He cares for you. I googled the verse so I can cut and paste here. I landed on a wonderful blog called:?But as for me, I will always have hope?? Psalm 71:14Yeah, that's the title of Lisa's blog. I copied this post and pasted here (sorry, without permission, but I will tell her after this), but I encourage you to go there and read her post for June 8. Amazingly, it's the same message and it's what I need to hear. So go there and read what she wrote. Here's what I copied:It is so easy to live lives full of anxiety and worry, but as believers in Christ we are called to trust in Him. Charles Spurgeon once said, ?Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of it?s sorrows, but only empt...

Psalm 23
2008-06-04 12:00:00 The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world and all who dwell in it He has set it on the seas, and prepared it on the rivers.Who will ascend the mountain of the Lord, or who will stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not set his mind on vanity or sworn deceitfully to his neighbour. He will receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour. These are the kind who seek the Lord, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, you eternal doors, and the King of Glory will enter.Who is this King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, you eternal doors, and the King of Glory will enter.Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory.Visit Catholic Prayers to see collection of inspiring prayers. Psalm 112
2008-05-29 12:00:00 1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.5 A good man showeth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; 2 Cor. 9.9 his horn shall be exalted with honor.10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish...

2008-04-19 16:40:00 Psalm 16:3 provides the thought for the day. As a Christian, you are a saint. You are one of “the excellent ones.” You do not enjoy that privilege because of anything you have earned, but because of the selfless sacrifice of God’s own Son. Today is Saturday, a day filled with possibilities. Odds are, you ...

Psalm
2008-01-29 20:50:00 My Lord, why am I so frightened? Why is my spirit so weak? Where is the faith that can move mountains? Where is the strength that can overcome death? I know I am strong if you make me strong, and my weakness becomes strength in your presence. Touch my heart with a love beyond my understanding, and I will turn to you like the sun flower turns towards the sun. We feel small because we keep looking in the ground. We feel weak because we drift away from your life-giving force. Teach us to turn our eyes towards the sky, and find our strength and comfort beyond the clouds that darken the horizon. Let us drink from your spring of living water, let us reach further than our dreams can reach. AMEN

Psalm 2
2008-01-14 06:38:00 A psalm of kingship. This psalm particularly connects with me in how it describes God’s determination. What I mean by that is God’s certainty in what he plans he will do (”when I act who can reverse it?” Isa. 43:13). God installs his king in Zion. And he laughs at those who try to undermine what ...

Psalm 52 ? Futility of Boastful Wickedness
2007-12-19 13:57:00 Psalm 52 — Futility of Boastful Wickedness The tongue seems to be the biggest problem in Psalm 52 — Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually. A Sheep Looks At Psalm 23
2007-12-03 02:53:00 It’s no secret that sheep are not the most intelligent of the animal kingdom. They need a shepherd! In the darkest time of my life it was Psalm 23 that comforted me over and over. But I must admit I was baffled by “They rod and thy staff, they comfort me.” Growing up as I did, rods were not used to comfort me! In the early ‘70s I bought a book written by Dr. W. Phillip Keller called A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23 ©1969 The Zondervan Corporation. The late Dr W Phillip Keller was born in East Africa and was always an “outdoors” boy. He was trained in agronomy (management of farm land) and spent many years on ranches in British Columbia. He lived among the sheep and their shepherds and was a keen observer of sheep and their relationship to the shepherd. So he knew what he was talking about when he wrote his books on shepherding! This was one of the most informative books I have ever read. David, the author of this poem was not only a shepherd, but also a son of a sheph...
