Will Court Decision Topple A Top Sathya Sai Teacher? Male Sexual Abuse Case
2011-07-22 11:36:00
STOP PRESS! Breaking NEWS ...... This morning, Friday, I received important news, the details of which are being wrapped up in an Indian High Court today. Until I access the notes, I shall wait and examine the details, and check on what those on the spot have to report. Witnesses to the court proceedings made such comments as: "Our side had only three 'suits' (ed. i.e., lawyers or solicitors). The Sathya Sai lot had no fewer than thirteen!! Our three advocates ran rings around them. The judge removed the gag". One of the family members I spoke to, who along with other family, have long suffered the effects of Sai betrayal, was so overjoyed at the routing of a formidable accomplice of Sathya Sai Baba that he told me: "I was so happy that I leapt into my swimming pool forgetting that I had my Sat(ellite)Phone in my pocket. I have to get a new one" .... Prison Sentence - More Sentences To Come? I can attest that there is growing determination among those who have t...
CorePsych DC: Parker Reopens Near Tyson?s
2010-10-04 12:22:00
And the patients that came in those Amen DC doors were already thinking deeply into the next box. Many of them had "already tried everything else - several times." That experience confirmed my expectations: the science works. Looking is always better than guessing, - and soon will become the standard of care.
Robert Priddy On Jaani Drucker, As Sathya Sai Baba Cultist In Denial
2010-05-12 04:06:00
Robert Priddy has just blogged the article: Jaani Drucker ? wild claims not supported by her actions , Posted by robertpriddy on May 11, 2010. He refers to my series quoting and commenting on correspondence between Jaani Drucker and myself: Reply To Claimer of Spiritual Enlightenment (Yaani Drucker Correspondence) Part 1 Exchanges of views on how rape and sexual abuse affect the real person or whether they merely affect the body, as is held by rape victim Jaani Drucker. Reply To Claimer of Enlightenment (Yaani Drucker Correspondance) Part 2 Jaani Drucker continually responds to neither to the spirit or the letter of her claim that " happy to discuss and debate issues" rather flatly rejecting all points on the ground that she knows the ultimate truth. Reply To Claimer of Enlightenment (Jaani Drucker Correspondance) Part 3 Jaani Drucker evades Pittard's contention that those who have had such traumatic experiences need to reach out to an experienced, qualified profession, and th...

This piece continues from:  Reply To Claimer of Spiritual Enlightenment (Yaani Drucker Correspondence) Part 5 - my response to Yaani Drucker, who wrote to me in the first instance. Many Sathya Sai devotees worldwide have hero-worshipped her and her husband Professor Al Drucker (formerly with NASA). To some devotees, it has not mattered that Sai Baba has treated them both very harshly ...

Continuing from: Reply To Claimer of Enlightenment (Jaani Drucker Correspondance) Part 4 .... , my response to Yaani Drucker, who claims on her website to be enlightened, and to "Have truth, will travel". She wrote to me that: "I am happy to discuss and debate issues. I have responded to every issue you raised". However, readers who appreciate norms of language, logic and sticking to points raised will see clearly that Ms Drucker veers (not at all, I think, meaning to be dishonest) away from issues put to her. She also reveals a strong tendency to assume that her view of strange events in the presence of Sathya Sai Baba must be the correct. In fact, the state of scientific knowledge DOES allow us to make eminently reasonable alternative interpretations of what Ms Drucker takes to be inviolable truths (perhaps I should have capitalized the last word). She writes: .......

Continuing from: Reply To Claimer of Enlightenment (Jaani Drucker Correspondance) Part 2 .... , my response to Yaani Drucker, who claims on her website to be enlightened, and to "Have truth, will travel". She wrote to me: "And when we know who we are, we will know a little better who Sai Baba is. So the task at hand is to know yourself, rather than spending your time trying to pin a crime on Sai Baba. However if you wish to pursue that course, Sai Baba does say Inimical Bhakti is the fastest path to truth, so I am sure it is serving the highest good". Note: I had pointed out to Ms Drucker that it is important for survivors of severe trauma to seek qualified professional counseling, and also (bearing in mind that she is a public figure) she has the responsibility correctly to model this kind of service to those who read her writings.

Continuing from: Reply To Claimer of Enlightenment (Jaani Drucker Correspondance) Part 2 .... , my response to Yaani Drucker, who claims on her website to be enlightened, and to "Have truth, will travel". She has explained that her "rape experience happened in 1985, in a house next to the Stanton Sai Center, on the same property as the Sai center in S. California". I have suggested to her that those who have had such traumatic experiences need to reach out to an experienced, qualified profession, and that it is a dangerous undertaking to recommend a course of action which relies on faith or notions of enlightenment alone. She replied: "Is it necessary for a rape victim to receive professional counseling? This assumes that psychology/ psychotherapy has answers that ABSOLUTE TRUTH does not".

Continuing from: Reply To Claimer of Enlightenment (Jaani Drucker Correspondance) Part 1 .... , my response to Jaani Drucker, who claims both in correspondence and on her website to be enlightened, and to "Have truth, will travel". In an email to me, she says, "Baba demonstrates that He clearly manipulates the laws of physical reality, because He can". In another email, she says: "Sai Baba has demonstrated powers of omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence. I am convinced of His divinity and that everything He does is in the service of the uplift of all. He knows the past, present and future of each of us, and He knows how to transform the world into a world of peace, love and joy for all". She put the question to me: "Is it necessary for a rape victim to receive professional counseling? This assumes that psychology/ psychotherapy has answers that ABSOLUTE TRUTH does not". ------------------------- Note: Ms Drucker writes that "I am happy to discuss and debate issues. I...

2010-02-20 12:32:00
Below, I respond to Yaani Drucker - who initially wrote to me. For many years, she and her husband Professor Al Drucker (formerly with NASA) have been hero-worshipped by many Sathya Sai devotees worldwide. Ms Drucker has made some facts very clear, although readers may decide whether I am correct in saying that she veers (I think not with deliberate dishonesty) away from key points that I have made.
Democratic Societies Need To Face Issues On Cults
2010-01-08 23:21:00
In my colleague's and my extensive experience in exposing the global Sathya Sai Baba cult and its leader, India's most famous guru, we have found a striking fact: governments, and indeed whole societies, fail to face the problem of cults. The 'answers' of totalitarian regimes is of course to be repudiated at the outset. Indeed, in their authoritarianism, these closely resemble a great many cults, in any case! In some sense, they can indeed be deemed cults. Charismatic, autocratic leadership, enforcement of group-think, and punitive styles exercised against those who question are some characteristics that loom large.
Concerning Attempts To Contact Former Sathya Baba Followers
2009-10-04 01:11:00
Concerning Attempts To Contact Former Sathya Baba Followers In the case of these approaches, carefully vetting is performed so as to screen off the proven attempts of Gerald Moreno and others to infiltrate or otherwise undermine former devotee work to bring about proper third party investigation of Sathya Sai Baba and core components of his international Sathya Sai Organization. It has been important for us to take advice from outstanding abuse professionals, lawyers, and so on. The temerity, and in some cases the naivity, of some requests to us for even the most sensitive information might stagger those who had not become used to it.
Political Psychiatry in Vancouver Raised by Candidate for Mayor
2008-11-13 19:12:00
Soviet-style political psychiatry practiced in Vancouver has been attracting attention internationally but I?d never heard it mentioned by a candidate in the civic election campaign.  Until Monday.  At an All Candidates meeting in the theater of Carnegie Center, Independent mayoral candidate Golok Buday (pictured above in black cap), said: ?Car 87 forces it?s drugs on ...

Love vs Fear (Encounters with Nature)
2008-08-17 21:30:00
Nature can be therapeutic. . . and it doesn't cost a dime to benefit. I have made a couple of entries previously about the process of transference and counter-transference. Freud made these two concepts popular in his practice of psychoanalysis. The subject may transfer emotions on to the therapist that are associated with past encounters with significant people. An example may entail the subject subconsciously feeling contempt, resentment, or fear for their controlling and emotionally unavailable father since childhood. For the sake of interest, lets say the father recently died with those issues left unresolved which caused enough internal conflict within to motivate the patient to seek therapy. Since the primary issue with such a patient centers around problems with male authority figures this will almost certainly surface repeatedly in sessions with a male therapist. The therapist has three tools to work with: confront ideas and comments made by th...

A psychiatrist is a fellow who asks you a lot of expensive questions your wife asks for nothing. -- Joey AdamsWords are the physicians of a mind diseased.-- AeschylusTo assume that either conversation or drugs --or a combination of both-- could solve all the problems of human existence and make every life fulfilled and complete is the kind of magical and wishful thinking that has made one class of our citizenry, the therapeutic community, successful and wealthy; and another class, their clients, more miserable and unsettled than they were before they began placing their hopes on the promissory note that someone else could tell them what to think and how to live, and thereby make them happy.---------- Robert A. On the Wards - (Child) Psychiatry
2008-05-25 23:07:00
I stood at the end of the hallway looking out through the large windows. Outside the sky was gray, the blacktop was damp, and the trees were dripping. It was a stark contrast to the interior. Here, where I stood, the walls were brightly colored, cartoonish faces squinted, frowned, and smiled, and random quotes encouraged ...
Too Bad They Don't Offer A Discount for Psychiatry, So I Could Get My Head
2008-04-09 16:51:00
There are only 77 days until my vacation, the long-awaited trip to family friendly Orlando, Florida! Yes, I and Sweetie and Middle and The Boy and Mr Bunches and Mr F are going to pile into our car, then pile into an airplane, then pile into a condo lent us by our in-laws and hope for the best. There are those people out there (Sweetie) who say I am crazy to take this trip. To them I say: Sweetie, you knew what you were getting into when you married me.But just because my vacation will actually devolve into the comicly nightmarish logistical problem of getting the Babies! through not one, not two, but three airports does not mean that it also has to be comicly or nightmarishly expensive. While I may be crazy when it comes to planning trips, I'm very sane when it comes to saving money, which I do through BestOnlineCoupons.com BestOnlineCoupons.com has a ton of options to help us make the vacation affordable even if it won't be relaxing. Bazooka Joe's Anti-Psychiatry Blog

This blog just fascinates the hell out of me...I just get lost in it. The link associated with the title will take you to the very first month of his writings. As a child abuse survivor, I can relate. I guess that's why it fascinates me so. As a social worker I take offense to some of it but realize he has a right to his own feelings born from his own experience and environment. The reason the link takes you to the first of his posts is that there are some beautiful poems on that first page. I remember when my abuse used to inspire me to write such prose and it makes me smile, even given the subject matter because I know he's come a long way and he's going to be alright....

Tom Cruise To Wipe Out Psychiatry
2008-01-19 18:59:00
Well, yeah. Then he can insure that no one ever gets to the bottom of his freakiness. Another video of Tom Cruise acting like a maniac and discussing his plans for world domination was just yanked from YouTube. In this one, Tom illustrates where he was really going when he took on Matt Lauer a couple of years ago. It's a rant about psychiatry, and how it's completely evil and a "crime against humanity". Sounds like a therapist might have stolen L. Ron Hubbard's parking spot at some point. In the video, Tom says ""Oh, I'm going hard on those guys, and their reign ... psychiatrists. I've had...I mean...I've absolutely had it. It's disgusting to me... No mercy... None... Psychiatry doesn't work." He also reminds his fellow Scientologists that they have the ability to "crush" psychiatry. If you're in the mental health field, you better run for the goddamn hills. Tom Cruise doesn't want you talking about your problems or taking a serontonin enhancer! Just pray to a volcano and ...
What Is a Panic Attack
2008-01-18 17:17:00
digg_url = 'URLOFSTORY';Panic Attacks can occur if a person is exposed to a stressful situation. These type of attacks are not long in duration and go away with or without medical help.At the time of attack a person can feel fear of death,or he can have a feeling that he is suffocating. On the other hand some people start breathing very rapidly.About 5% of the population experience a panic attack in lifetime. If the attack is repeated many times then it is a good idea to visit your doctor.Repeated panic attacks indicate possible diagnosis of Panic Disorder,Depression or other behavioral disorders. Many times it is seen that panic disorder is inherited from parents.According to The American Psychiatric Association "panic attack is a discrete period of intense fear or discomfort, in which 4 (or more) of the following symptoms develop abruptly and reach a peak within 10 minutes."Following are some symptoms of panic attacks - * Person can have Palpitations, pounding heart that ...
Anti-Psychiatry?
2007-12-18 03:55:00
Everyone has a philosophy of life, whether through self-study or through the inculcation of some academic or moral body. 2007-09-11 12:55:00
By Andrew Czyzewski11 September 2007Arch Gen Psychiatry 2007; 64: 999-1014MedWire News: Patients with psychosis show reduced temporal brain activity when performing certain memory-encoding tasks, study findings indicate.Among 26 patients with first-episode psychosis, the hippocampus showed normal modulation of activation during successful memory encoding, but abnormal activity during encoding of arbitrary pairs, compared with 20 healthy controls.Amélie Achim (Brain Imaging Group, Douglas Hospital Research Université de Montréal, Quebec, Canada) and colleagues speculate that people who struggle to discriminate between arbitrary and related pieces of information may be prone to psychotic disorders. The researchers note, however, that "the normal modulation of hippocampal activation observed during successful memory encoding in first-episode psychosis argues against a general inability to recruit this region."Memory is greatly affected in schizophrenia. Behavioral observations suggest t...

Cost Of Cover Ups Can Far Exceed Hoped-for Benefits

A great irony of cover-ups is this - that once they have been exposed, the initiators of the abuses sustain a cost far greater than would have attended the prompt admission of the initial misdeeds - and genuine, exhaustive measures to address the abuses. Tragically, “cost” may be multiply defined - and in far from money terms ...
