Wikipedia Launches Campus Ambassadors Program In Pune
2011-06-07 15:16:00 Pune is all set to become the first city outside the United States to host the Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors Program. This program intends to take the help of teachers and students of various universities in Pune and integrate wikipedia into the university’s curriculum. The program has been brought to India since there aren’t a lot of Indian contributors on Wikipedia. As a part of this program students would be given assignments which would be written on wikipedia instead of writing it in traditional reports. Wikipedia has already selected 22 campus ambassadors to assist them in raising awareness about wikipedia, and how it is an educational tool where students can contribute and not just copy information for their projects. We drove along Pune? Ahmednagar road passing by Hyatt, Four Point and Ibis. The road was nicely tarred and despite sparse scooter and truck traffic on Sunday, ride was enjoyable. After seeing the toll gateway, we decided to turn back and saw a board ?Theur? with direction pointing on the right side. We asked white attired villager who told us that we would reach within 15 minutes. I was elated by getting an opportunity to see my first Ashtavinayak with effortless ease and fortune. The road winded past villagers that housed buffalo raring centre. I am not sure about difference between 'Bajari' and 'Jondhala', but wonderful sight of one of these crops was delightful. We still went ahead from Oxford Club to MG road in search of golf kit. We didn't encounter any wild celebrations but did see statures being garlanded or decorated. Akshta is familiar with Shivaji calling him 'fighter man'. MBIS had holiday y'day. Wonder if they did so as Shivjayanti came on Saturday.We are getting familiar with environs of Oxford club and hopefully we would acquire enough skills to have a consistant wild swing to see the ball take long aerial route. Now it's all random hits. We bought Wilson golf kit and in the shop had chat with riped Sardar who was passionate about golf and its benefits. For those unaware, Transit is a Google Project that seeks to encourage travelling by Public Transport in various cities around the world. It is now present in almost 500 cities around the world including Bangalore and Delhi. It has tied up with the BMTC in Bangalore to launch Bangalore Bus Routes and with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for Delhi Metro Routes. Kolkata Metro and Chennai MRTS support it as well. In Pune it has partnered with the bus service – PMPML and added its information to Google Maps. Pune’s bus service caters to around 1 million passengers in a day. The firm, which has developed a township, and residential and retail projects in the city, said three of the townships will be in Mumbai, and one each in Pune and Indore. Each of the projects will include an IT special economic zone, and will have about 20 million sq. ft each. The company is finalizing the land acquisition for these projects. They plan to fund the land acquisition through internal accruals. For each city, they will also look at partners but that will only be on maturity of the project. Red Fort to invest Rs 3,500cr into Indian realty sector

The money will be invested in real estate projects ? commercial, residential and retail ? as well as land acquisitions. It has also launched a domestic fund few weeks back through which it plans to raise Rs 1,000 crore. The proceeds would be deployed into non-foreign direct investment projects. Construction has begun for Prestige?s project in Bangalore, Indu project in Hyderabad, Chennai and NCR, Delhi. The company is looking at property investments in about 15 other cities that have high income and employment growth and cheaper land. 2008-04-02 21:39:00 Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune Established in 1921, according to the directions of Mahatma Gandhi, as the educational memorial of Lokmanya Tilak, great patriot, leader of the freedom struggle and the great thinker, Tilak Maharashtra University aimed at imparting national education. The selfless work put in by the devoted teachers and students enabled the University to survive against all odds during the pre-independence period. In recognition of the fundamental contribution made by the University in the fields of Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Social Sciences and Distance Education, the University was awarded the status of a Deemed University in the year 1987. All the departments of the University are well known at the national and international levels for their quality research work and other innovative and creative activities.
