On Aug 16, 1947 Nawab Mamdot, the party?s provincial president, became the chief minister. Mumtaz Daultana, one of the party?s leading men, was taken as a minister in his cabinet. He did not think much of Mamdot?s standing as a landed aristocrat or his abilities as a politician and administrator.By the end of December the estrangement between the two became widely known and began to create factional divisions in both the administration and the party organisation. Mr Jinnah twice summoned them to Karachi to resolve their differences but his efforts failed. Property prices increase significantly in Punjab
2008-08-25 09:30:00 According to experts, the prices of prime locations in Punjab have shot up by 40-55% in the last two years. The cash-strapped state, which needs to push the growth of industrialisation, is facing shortage of land, resulting in increase of prices. The reality can be measured from a fact that recently the state government acquired 300 acres for the upcoming Mohali international airport for which the government paid a compensation of Rs 1.5 crore per acre to farmers whose land was possessed. This was the highest ever compensation paid for acquisition by a state government to farmers which has certainly set a standard. Besides that, Punjab has fertile land and in the previous past various examples have been set where the land has been sold at exorbitant prices, said president of Punjab Builders and Coloniser Association, Mr. Kulwant Singh.

Heavy showers lashed most parts of Chandigarh in the afternoon after a dust storm. The maximum here settled at 38.8 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Department said here. In Haryana, Karnal received light showers and the maximum dropped to 34.8 degrees Celsius, five below normal. Ambala had a high of 37.3 C, down three degrees while Hisar registered a high of 38.3 C, also three below normal. Bhiwani recorded a maximum of 35 C. 2008-05-17 20:38:00 Well, on the subject of the IPL T20 Championship, the match tonight between Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Daredevils was a bomb after the interruptions by rain followed by the implementation of the duckwort louis system (well, whats in a correct spelling if its wrong??!!) Without a doubt we have seen fantastic cricket from all of the cricketers and teams involved in this tournament but of late all of the players and teams were showing signs of fatigue because of the harsh harsh heat of the Indian Summers and the player's hectic schedules. The recent 5-6 day breaks for all of the teams and the change in weather sems to have breathed life back in to the players and the tournament. In the end, the Kings XI Punjab won the game by 6 runs but both teams put their best in to the match and it was nice to see a competitive match go right down to the wire ... again.
