How better to power the underwater sQuba car than on batteries?
2008-01-01 02:06:00
I briefly looked at Autoblog's mention of the sQuba concept the other day, but I must have been too astounded by the idea of a submersible car to realize that, hey, that thing's all-electric. ABG tipster Domenick, though, sent in a note about the sQuba and pointed out that this ridiculous little thing is a ZEV. The sQuba won't be used by James Cameron any time soon, but it can go up to 10 meters underwater and contains an oxygen supply in the cab. The power, according to Gizmag, comes from a 37 kW electric motor for on-land use and two 3.6 kW rear jet drives for underwater propulsion. Oh, and the sQuba can also drive itself. That's a lot of concepts to put into one concept car, but Rinspeed won't need to worry about unhappy customers; this thing is a one-off destined for the stand at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, and that's it.Gallery: Rinspeed sQuba Concept[Source: Autoblog, Gizmag. New Concept Car: Rinspeed Squba
2007-12-25 14:52:00
Those wacky Swiss concept car makers at Rinspeed are at it again, this time with a creation called the 'sQuba' - the world's first real diving car. Scheduled to be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in March, the car 'looks almost like it just came out of a James Bond movie', according to the press release.Though the fact that it can (allegedly) travel up to 10 meters under water, the concept itself is not cutting edge design in aesthetic terms. Instead it looks like a modified version of Lotus's Elise, or the Tesla all-electric sports coupe, albeit with some gills on the front fenders and shark fins around the B-pillar thrown in for good measure. The light weight body is made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tube components which enclose the driver and passenger and supplies them with fresh breathing air through a self-contained on-board system. Still, it makes you wonder what an under water-going vessel is doing with a targa top. While on dry land, the vehicle propels itself autonomou...

2008 Geneva Motor Show:Rinspeed sQuba Concept
2007-12-21 14:37:00
Rinspeed sQuba Concept car, claimed to be the world’s  first real diving car, is set to unveil at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, 6th to 16th March, 2008. Rinspeed is a Swiss automobile manufacturer, and its boss- Frank M. Rinderknecht, said that the “sQuba†symbolizes the realization of a long-cherished dream from the James Bond film “The spy who loved meâ€. The Rinspeed sQuba Concept does not only capable to be driven on the road, but it will also be able to dive up to 10 meters (33 feet) depth. The Rinspeed sQuba is powered with an electric motor with powerful torque. With the help of two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow, propel the vehicle under water while diving. The sQuba is also environment friendly with its zero emissions, zero pollution in when in the water. The driver and passenger are enclosed with Carbon Nano Tubes enclosure and meanwhile fresh breathing air is supplied by the self-contained on-board system. You might also be...
Rinspeed sQuba Concept Car features dive and drive
2007-12-19 19:21:00
Mover Q your amphibious car designs are redundant, maybe they were good enough for the previous spies but the next-gen demands a more synced-up version. In case you need to take pointers, make sure you are there at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th thru 16th, 2008), where Swiss design company Rinspeed will showcase their sQuba Concept Car. The makers claim that it is the world's first real diving car. And if its aquatic feats were not enough, the car can (at the push of a button) drive autonomously. It can dive to the depth of up to 10 meters (33 feet). The "sQuba" fulfills Rinspeed's boss Frank M. Rinderknecht long cherished dream of creating something that marries fictitious movie concepts to reality. Thus taking inspiration from "The spy who loved me", sQuba features an electric motor with powerful torque that drives the rear wheels. The thrust on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propel the vehicle under water while diving...

2008 Geneva Motor Show: Rinspeed sQuba Concept
2007-12-18 13:06:00
While all the concern given to the Corvette ZR1s, Hyundai Geneses and Ford F-150s as the 2008 Detroit Auto Show approaching, wacky Swiss aftermarket tuner Rinspeed continues its contrarian tack by releasing this sketch of its next concept car --a zero-emission machine capable of diving, which will make world debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor show in March.Yep, diving. This automotive equivalent of Greg Louganis, promises the Swiss company, would be capable of going further than any amphicar in the past, if it ever were produced, by not only surfing the waves, but submarining under them.Rinspeed says the sQuba concept has been drawn around the idea of driving on roads, then--at the push of a button--converting the sQuba into an amphibious vehicle capable of diving into water as deep as 33 feet.It doesn't seem like a good idea on paper, but the Rinspeed crew outfits its concept with an electric motor (zap!), which sends torque to drive the rear wheels. Two propellers and two jet drives ...

Early look: Rinspeed sQuba concept
2007-12-18 00:23:00
Early look: Rinspeed sQuba concept Rinspeed has released images — although not truly realistic — of its sQuba concept ahead of the car's 2008 Geneva Motor Show debut in March. Known for over-the-top concepts, the latest Rinspeed concept is no exception. The Swiss company hails the sQuba as the "world's first real diving car" as it is capable of diving to depths of 33 feet. On land, the sQuba is powered by an electric motor that sends its power to the rear wheels. Once in the water, propulsion is provided by two propellers and a pair of jet drives. A self-contained on-board air system provides the driver and passenger with oxygen when the sQuba is submerged. No other details were released about the car. Like the majority of Rinspeed's creations, there are no plans to put the sQuba into production.

Education Becomes the New Casualty in Baquba
2007-12-12 23:08:00
by Dahr Jamail & Ahmed Ali BAQUBA, Dec 10 (IPS) - The alarming security situation in Diyala province north of Baghdad has killed off much of the education system. The U.S.-led invasion of Iraq had at first brought hope. Salaries were increased; a newly appointed primary or secondary school teacher was given 200,000 Iraqi Dinars, about 150 dollars a month. In September 2006, the Ministry of Education increased teachers' salaries by 20 to 50 percent in an attempt to entice them to stay in their jobs. But in Diyala capital Baquba, 40km north of Baghdad, lack of security means many teachers have quit, and children are not going to school. This is a trend across Iraq. According to a report released last year by the non-governmental group Save the Children, 818,000 children of primary school age, representing 22 percent of Iraq's potential student population, were not attending school. "We suffer so much because of the problem just of going from home to school; n...

Public Affairs: Baqubah FoodWhere is the "Main Stream" Media? Working on their next Bash Bush nonsense?Story Sgt. Patrick Lair Photos by PV2 Kirby Rider and Sgt. Patrick Lair 115th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment BAQUBAH, IRAQ? After the fight to retake an Iraqi city is over, the struggle to reconstruct a functioning government is the fist order of business. That?s why U.S. and Iraqi forces were excited recently to witness local trucks arrive, accompanied by the Iraqi Army, at a Baqubah flour mill with 560 tons of imported wheat to feed the people of Diyala province. ?This is one more piece to the larger puzzle of providing normalcy here,? said Lt. Col. Fred Johnson, deputy commanding officer of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. ?It?s probably the most important thing we?ve done.? The grain, imported from the U.S., will be milled, sacked and distributed to the local population as part of the Public Distribution System, an Iraqi program dat...

Galli was in Diyala province to gather material for a book he is working on. Galli was part of a civil affairs unit during Vietnam.
