Long Island Closing Prices Plunge 10%, Queens 15% Year Over Year
2008-06-10 00:13:00
LI May home prices fall 10% over '07; Queens down 15%by NY Newsday - fullLast month's median closing prices of homes on Long Island dropped by about 10 percent -- 15 percent in Queens -- compared to a year ago. And when compared to April, the figures reveal an erratic housing market some real estate agents say is still correcting from the boom years and feeling the impact of the subprime mortgage crisis. The Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, which also includes Queens, reported that the median closing price was $360,000 in Suffolk, down from $400,000 a year ago. In Nassau the median price dropped $51,500 to $438,500 over the same period, and in Queens the price dropped to $407,500 from $480,000.The declines show the effects of fewer sales coupled with increased inventory, according to MLS chief executive Joseph E. Mottola."Market uncertainty continues as homeowners under increasing pressures of gas prices, tax increases and the upward adjustments in variable rate mortgages t...

Magnolia's Veranda Cafe - Four Queens 2008
2008-05-21 00:41:00
We were playing at the Four Queens, and we got so hungry, so we asked a host if we could get comped food and he gave us a comp dinner at Magnolia's. The total was about $45. But everything tasted really bad. Chicken fingers were like frozen dinner. Shrimp for shrimp cocktail was so small. Ham sandwich was so low quality, and potato salad was really bad. Also our waitress wasn't friendly. After she brings our food, she never came back. The lady who serves drinks, she doesn't speak English, and when we asked about iced tea, she couldn't understand. Janet Jackson impressed by drag queens
2008-04-25 09:02:00
American singer Janet Jackson has revealed that the legion of drag queens, who attempt to mimic her act, have impressed her so much that she would like to be one.Jackson admitted that whenever she hears of drag stars imitating her, she always checks them out, and she has found that some of them are pretty amazing."One of them was at the Baton (Show Lounge) in Chicago. This was a few years ago. And she did a wonderful job. (There was) another... in Atlanta at the Jungle. She did a wonderful job as well," Contactmusic quoted her as saying."They really study you... (and) they pour it on more, which I absolutely love. They give more than I do and I love that. The first time I went to the Baton in Chicago and saw this show, I was with some of my dancers."Afterward, I said to my dancers, ’We’ve gotta pull (it) up because these bitches are hitting it. They’re giving so much femininity and we look like boys onstage’," she added. The singer rev...

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE - No one knows
2008-04-22 01:27:00

Madhuri Dixit: Bollywood misses its dancing queens!
2008-04-11 07:40:00
In fact, Bollywood dance is now recognised as another dance form. Thanks to former leading ladies like Vyajayantimala, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini, Jaya Prada, Sridevi, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Madhuri Dixit. But something seems to have changed. Bollywood’s dancing queens have disappeared. And the guys are making the most of it. Be it Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor or Neil Nitin Mukesh, these men have proved their dancing prowess. Earlier a director would add a dance number to make sure that the audience got its fix. Remember Sridevi seducing Mr India in Kaate Nahin Kat Te or her dance numbers in Chandni and Lamhe? And who can forget Madhuri in Ek, Do, Teen and Dhak Dhak. The actresses who followed from Aishwarya to Preity and Rani to Bipasha, do not exactly have two-left feet, but they never get as many whistles from the front seats. Filmgoers feel that no actress today is an accomplished dancer. But choreographers differ. Veteran Saroj Khan says, "If you show the audie...

Comfort eating in Queens
2008-02-08 17:05:00
After a morning dealing with my backed up post, I foraged desperately in the kitchen for lunch. But as month old yoghurt and a couple of butternut squashes weren’t looking that appealing, I hopped to Queens on the V train, drawn by the siren call of inexpensive Indian food. (I’m fed up with paying Manhattan prices for my grocery shopping: real estate prices here mean that everything pretty much seems to double on this side of the East River.)Unlike in London, where council housing was built on bomb sites and on the foundations of Victorian housing stock throughout the inner city in the aftermath of the Second World War and the '60s slum clearances, (next to Harrods as well as in Dalston), Manhattan’s accommodation doesn't have an ethnically diverse occupancy. (In London I have Somali, Bangladeshi, Indian, Chinese and Ghanaian familes on my street, and my local supermarket stocks food from all these countries.)In the past thirty years, or so, recent immigrants from Asia & Cen...

Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age - Split [EP]
2008-02-05 14:34:00
Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age is a split EP which was released in December 1997. The first three songs are performed by Kyuss and the last three songs by guitarist Josh Homme's next band, Queens of the Stone Age, and is widely considered to be Queen's first release. This rare, out-of-print CD includes a Kyuss cover of the song 'Into the Void' by Black Sabbath. 'If Only Everything' is an early raw version of the song 'If Only', which appeared on Queens of the Stone Age's eponymous debut album. This disc also contains the original version of 'Born to Hula' which would later be re-recorded as 'Born to Hula 2000' and appear as a b-side on one edition of the 'Lost Art of Keeping a Secret' single, and later as a track on the Stone Age Complications EP. 'Spiders and Vinegaroons' would would not see anouther release, though it was used as the song played over the PA before many of their early concerts. 'Fatso Forgotso' and 'Fatso Forgotso Phase II (Flip the Phase)' were ...

Rivalry On Ice (Queens)
2008-02-02 15:20:00
The Sun reports that the rivalry between ex-Hear'Say singer Suzanne Shaw and Zaraah Abrahams is so bitter that show bosses have had to split them up in rehearsals. An insider said, “It’s very icy between Suzanne and Zaraah. They are kept apart and we organised totally different practice times. They’re trying to outdo one another by doing bigger lifts.â€Shaw, 26, was way ahead of the female competition by scoring the top marks on the ITV1 show. But ex-Coronation Street actress Zaraah arrived on the scene last week to replace injured GMTV presenter Michael Underwood — and impressed the judges. The 20-year-old got 18.5 from the judges last Sunday — despite coming into the competition two weeks late— and was told she had given a “true Week Three performanceâ€.Suzanne scored 20.5, but judge Jason Gardiner told her, “I was expecting better from you.â€The insider added, “The girls have a battle on.â€
