SOHH On The Scene: Kanye West & Quincy Jones Drops By The Chill Spot. And I
2008-05-06 03:59:00 When I [Gyant] was told that Chaka Zulu, Jamal Coleman, and Tai Boggie had secured the ?it? boy of hip-hop ? Mr. Kanye West ? to roll through the Chill Spot I just knew that they were pulling my leg. With the Louis Vuitton Don already double booked practically at the same time at another venue I didn?t see any chance in hell of it happening. But I?ll be damned they pulled it off. And they didn?t just stop at Kanye. They even managed to get a living legend to adorn the Atlanta hot spot with his presence. They got Quincy Jones to come out too.

Quincy Jones - Big Band Bossa Nova
2008-01-15 21:28:00 Even when he was a full-time jazz cat, Quincy Jones always had an ear for the pop aesthetic. This 1962 record does contain a good bit of, how you say, queijo in its unsubtle arrangements, but it is for the most part an accessible, entertaining, and bubbly affair. And with musicians of the caliber of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Paul Gonsalves, Clark Terry, Jim Hall (who can't help but be tasteful), and Phil Woods all contributing ideas, a baseline quality is assured. Most significantly, Jones goes beyond the expected Jobim and Bonfa cuts to fit Lerner & Loewe and even Mingus into bossa nova's bright clothes. It's so reminiscent of the cocktail party music for those old movies from the late 50's and 60's.Bossa Nova was king then, and this is a fabulous feel good nostalgia recording. This CD makes me want to throw a cocktail party! This treatment of bossa nova fits in perfectly with the musical culture of those days gone by. It's a time travel trip to the suburban set and penthouse ...

Quincy Jones to Michael Jackson: I'm too old for that sh*t!
2007-05-29 15:22:00 Legendary music producer Quincy Jones has turned down the chance to work on Michael Jackson's comeback album, because he's too busy. Jones produced Jackson's classic albums "Off The Wall," (79), "Thriller," (82), and "Bad," (87). But as Jackson prepares to launch his comeback following his acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005, Jones insists he won't be contributing to the album. He says, "Man please, I've got enough to do. We already did that. I have talked to him about working with him again but I've got too much to do. I've got 900 products. I'm 74 years old. Give me a break." (Source)
