Poll results (episode 12.10)
2008-01-21 19:52:00 Two thoughts about the next to last episode poll results...a) Nathan and Jennifer really didn't make many fans. We were glad to see them get Philiminated and weren't sympathetic as to how they left. b) Among those of us who avoid spoilers, we correctly handicapped the race final as being between the Ronald & Christina against the TK and Rachel teams, with very few of us pointing towards Nicolas and Donald. TK and Rachel winning TAR12 was a reasonable result if not the most likely one, the collective prediction went slightly in favor of Ronald and Christina.----What team do you predict to win "The Amazing Race 12"? TAR12 finale ratings take hit from playoff football
2008-01-21 19:36:00 What football gave for the TAR12 premiere, it took away for TAR12's conclusion. Nielsen ratings for "The Amazing Race 12" finale took a hit across the board from the overwhelming assault of pro football's NFC championship. TAR12 drew a preliminary 3.1 demo rating in the 18-49 age group for its conclusion, with about 9.7 million overall viewers, well down from the standard established by previous "Amazing Race 12" episodes. Despite football, "The Amazing Race 12" still built significantly off of an approximate 1.8 demo lead-in from a global warming news special. While the Nielsens were still acceptable, the unfortunate scheduling of the finale made drawing a wider audience impossible. Football drew an estimated preliminary 17.8 demo rating with 45.9 million viewers for Fox during the 8 p.m. ET hour against TAR. No show can maintain its usual ratings against such off the charts competition.Final Nielsen ratings should be available Tuesday, later in the week if delayed by Martin Luth...

TAR 12.11 recaplette, TK and Rachel win "The Amazing Race 12"
2008-01-21 04:06:00 If nothing else, it's nice to have "Amazing Race" champions who don't have to be spun to make them seem palatable. Completing a revitalized season of the series, new daters TK Erwin and Rachel Rosales won "The Amazing Race 12." The serene team arrived first at Girdwood Airport outside Anchorage, Alaska. The Roadblock task proved key for the victory as Rachel completed the task of gathering the correct combination of ten objects representing the ten previous TAR12 legs ahead of fellow competitors Christina and Nicolas. ----Most of the final episode consisted of competitors attempting to catch father/daughter team Ronald and Christina. On finding out that the team would travel to an outfitters store in Anchorage, Alaska, the pair looked online in advance to discover the outfitters' street address for their eventual taxi driver. The insightful maneuver gave Ronald and Christina a jump on the other teams. The team functioned in almost complete unison, in marked contrast to most of thei...

"The Amazing Race 12" finale tonight!!
2008-01-20 23:52:00 After waiting several months longer than necessary while reruns and the "Viva Laughlin" fiasco played out on CBS, "Amazing Race" fans have had to wait only an additional eleven weeks to determine a winner of the series' twelfth run. Tonight, we will learn if this battle of generations for a shared million dollar prize goes to the redeemed father Ronald with daughter Christina, laid-back younger daters TK and Rachel or the ultimate upset of politicially incorrect grandson and grandfather Nicolas and Donald. ----"The Amazing Race 12" has easily been one of the most successful runs of the reality series. After a lackluster received All-Stars run last spring, this fall and winter's return to new players and new relationship dynamics has revitalized the program. Outside of two holiday weekends, TAR12 ratings have rivaled or exceeded ratings for all other runs except "The Amazing Race 7." Generating the same ratings for tonight could be an extra challenging endeavor against NFC Champion...

An unexpected TAR12 finale field
2008-01-20 19:42:00 I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion. - Mia Hamm----Without spoilers, I dare anyone to have guessed that the field of teams for the eleventh and final leg of "The Amazing Race 12" would have been the particular configuration that we will see compete tonight. In the early stages of TAR12, it seemed as if none of these particular teams would have had more than a ghost of a chance. A three-way contest involving teams like the early dominant siblings Azaria and Hendekea, the athletic daters Nathan and Jennifer and the fan favorite goths Kynt and Vyxsin came off as a much better bet. While those teams strove to excel so long ago, daters TK and Rachel were too laid back and made too many navigational mistakes for their own good. Grandson and grandfather Nicolas and Donald were too slow at every step. Of course, Ronald and Christina had many problems... okay it was just Ronald wit...

"The Amazing Race 12" finale live blog!
2008-01-20 19:32:00 LIVE BLOG!!! REFRESH FOR UPDATES!!!----7:37 p.m.: Welcome to my totally unofficial live blog of "The Amazing Race 12" finale. Accurate spelling is optional. :)CBS is airing rerun "60 Minutes" stories dealing with global warming / climate change under the title "The Age of Warming." This is an old Nielsen ratings trick, Since it's not actually being called "60 Minutes," the ratings hit opposite championship football won't be counted against the show's season average. Cute, huh?If "The Amazing Race 12" takes a ratings hit against championship football though, it will count against the show's season average. Not so cute, huh.----7:41 p.m.: In all seriousness, having a global warming lead-in is a heck of a choice. To my knowledge, TAR has never referenced this issue. It's just as well considering questions would be asked about the carbon footprint left by the global production of the series.---- 7:46 p.m. As a degreed meteorologist myself though, I know just enough to be scared to...

TAR 12.10: Nicolas and Donald
2008-01-19 21:37:00 Grandson and grandfather Nicolas and Donald may be one of the most unlikely finalist teams on "The Amazing Race" ever. By his own admission, grandfather Donald is a step slower physically than the other competitors on the race yet this team has survived being on the brink of elimination in multiple legs including last episode's tenth leg. While the storyline focused on Nathan & Jennifer trying to fend off TK and Rachel, Nicolas and Donald remained centered in the pack of competitive racers. Again too slow to catch taxi to Osaka's airport, the grandson and grandfather found the best flight to Taipei unavailable to them. Instead, they competed at their own steady pace through the Roadblock, finally gaining an advantage over the TK/Rachel and Nathan/Jennifer teams in finding a taxi with a superior alternate route to the Taipei tea shop. While having to walk the jagged stones Detour cost them a placement behind the running TK and Rachel, the good fortune (from their vantage point) of N...

TAR 12.10: Ronald and Christina
2008-01-19 21:18:00 Father/daughter team Ronald and Christina all but coasted to another leg win on the tenth leg of "The Amazing Race 12," their relationship together at its absolute height on the race to date. The winners of leg nine took advantage of their opening position to secure tickets on the early flight from Osaka, Japan to Taipei, Taiwan. Christina then pulled out an old low-road trick of asking the ticket agent to tell competitors Nathan and Jennifer that the flight was full, a tactic that the agent agreed to follow through. I'm no fan of such trickery but it does say something that Christina now felt more freedom to use such a tactic without worrying about her father's reaction. After arriving by themselves in Taipei, Ronald and Christina had no more reason to worry. Making no mistakes along the way, the father and daughter kept ahead of the equalizations that were evening out all other teams. Past a certain point, there was never a doubt that Ronald and Christina would finish first again....

TAR 12.10: TK and Rachel
2008-01-19 21:00:00 Serene, mellow daters TK and Rachel became comeback kids on the tenth leg of "The Amazing Race 12," rising from a nonelimination penalty to make the final cut of race teams. The ongoing theme of the whole tenth episode was TK and Rachel's attempt to catch up to the other teams after being left hours behind on the previous nonelimination leg. TK and Rachel were lucky in the sense that the leg allowed many opportunities for equalizations. The closed Umeda building allowed the daters to make up part of the time gap, the wait for the airport ride to Taipei, Taiwan made up the rest...at least temporarily. We did have one moment of human concern, the closest thing to dissension that we've seen in the leg as TK and Rachel came to almost words on whether to go up the Umeda building in Osaka, Japan to find the Hanging Guards. TK's judgment proved more valid but fortunately, the momentary freak-out wasn't an issue.Thankfully for them, they played a mistake free leg the rest of the way. TK ...

CTV to delay TAR12 finale in much of Canada
2008-01-18 17:45:00 CTV's broadcast of "The Amazing Race 12" finale will be delayed in much of Canada due to coverage of the NFC Championship pro football game. Many eastern Canadian stations will air TAR12's last leg immediately after football coverage, approximately 10 p.m. EST. The CTV Web site has full information on the scheduled times (subject to change) for "The Amazing Race 12" for each network affiliate. ----Unless CBS' AFC championship football and its postgame combined extend beyond four hours, there won't be any kind of delay in the CBS broadcast of "The Amazing Race 12." The NFC championship game will instead air on Fox network in the United States, directly opposite the TAR12 finale.Relevant link: CTV

The top three teams would arrive at Umeda to find the building not open till 10 a.m. Once the building opened, the six racers traveled on separate elevators to the observatory with father/daughter Ronald and Christina reading off the next clue to fly to Taipei, Taiwan. While the top three teams taxied to the airport, TK and Rachel started the race leg. The new daters got into a minor dispute (major by their standards) over whether the floating gardens were on the roof of the Umeda building (TK's belief) or at ground level (Rachel's bel...

Strong rating confirmed for next to last TAR12 episode
2008-01-16 23:03:00 "The Amazing Race 12" was confirmed with a demo rating well above its average for the next to last episode of the season. The series hit a strong 3.8 rating in the Nielsen 18-49 age group, one of its stronger ratings of the season, a tie for 14th place in the weekly ratings.11,649,000 overall viewers watched the episode (I'll have to round down to 11.6 million in my stats, unfortunately.) Regardless of rounding, the episode finished 15th for the week in overall audience and tied for 12th with a 4.8 rating in the 25-54 age group.TAR12 outscored both "60 Minutes" and "Comanche Moon" (part 1) in the key age demos and improved on "60 Minutes" in the overall audience level. Admittedly, "60 Minutes" was dragged down by competing against playoff football but the numbers do prove TAR12's capacity to draw a significant audience without the newsmagazine's help.----The ratings are all the more impressive considering that TAR12 had to compete last weekend against the highly promoted premiere...

New polls for episode 12.10
2008-01-15 16:34:00 Aside from "The grade the episode" poll, there are three more "Amazing Race" polls for this week on the right sidebar.- The top poll is the first time that I've ever actually asked you to predict the winner of an "Amazing Race." To avoid any poll contamination for obvious reasons, I used a different online poll company that allows me to hide the poll results until after the airing of the final episode. Of course, if you already know the winning team of TAR12 from spoilers, please don't vote in that particular poll.----- The other new polls are more conventional outings. One poll aske you to name your favorite country/destination visited during the course of "The Amazing Race 12." The other one attempts to determine how sympathetic our collective "Amazing Race" fanbase was to the departure of Nathan and Jennifer. The daters departed after a run that devastated their relationship along the journey. The "grade the episode" poll from last Sunday evening will remain up for the remai...

TAR12 draws strong audience against "Terminator"
2008-01-14 20:03:00 The next to last episode of "The Amazing Race 12" held virtually all of its usual audience this week reports PIFeedback.com, despite competition from the "Terminator" franchise and the lack of a football overrun. Preliminary Nielsen ratings indicated that TAR12 drew a 3.8 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, with 11.6 million overall viewers. Both numbers nearly equaled last week's strong ratings. TAR12's preliminary demographic rating doubled the 1.9 from its "60 Minutes" lead-in, the newsmagazine hurt by competition against playoff football. ----With the help of a football lead-in, "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" obviously dominated the timeslot for its premiere. The fact that TAR could still holds its audience in the face on that onslaught though is a supreme credit to the program."The Amazing Race 12" will face playoff competition itself as its finale next Sunday will be aired directly against Fox's NFC championship football game in most of the United States. TAR 12.10 recaplette, Nathan & Jennifer eliminated
2008-01-14 03:21:00 Daters Nathan and Jennifer's infighting reached its peak on Jennifer's birthday as a dispute over whether to take the subway or taxi to the youth park Detour site led to their elimination from "The Amazing Race 12." ----The operative question at the beginning of the episode was whether daters TK and Rachel would be able to catch up to the pack or be left behind, making for an easy leg for the other three teams. It took awhile but the answer proved to be yes, TK and Rachel would make up the gap and then some. The remaining race teams were directed to a building with a hole in it, what turned out to be the Umeda Sky Building in Taipei. Top leaders Ronald & Christina, daters Nathan and Jennifer and grandson/grandfather Nicolas & Donald were equalized waiting for the 10 a.m. open. Final elimination "Amazing Race 12" episode tonight
2008-01-14 02:00:00 One final team will be eliminated on tonight's next to last episode of "The Amazing Race 12." After an airline flight gone wrong knocked daters TK and Rachel down to last place in Japan, they will need to make up a three hour deficit and overcome the waiting extra "speed bump" task on this penultimate leg to make the cut of the final three teams. The top three teams from last weekend's ninth leg can make the final cut just by maintaining the same race positions. While father/daughter team Ronald & Christina and grandson/grandfather team Nicolas and Donald would likely be satisfied just in making the final cut, daters Nathan and Jennifer also are striving for what would be their first leg win of the race. For once, tonight's episode will air across the United States at its regularly scheduled time, 8 p.m. EST/PST, 7 p.m. CST/MST. The episode will also air at its normal time in Canada, check local listings.

TAR 12.9: Ronald and Christina
2008-01-12 21:59:00 If we conveniently leave out that part about Ronald fuming at Mumbai Airport over the taxi driver, father and daughter Ronald and Christina had a strife-free go through the ninth leg of "The Amazing Race 12."Ronald lost his temper one more time after a taxi driver dropped off daughter Christina and himself at a non-entry gate of Mumbai's airport. Despite Ronald fuming halfway around the circumference of the airport, the team was none the worse for wear. The racer with the worst time was actually daughter Christina whose lack of driving experience hampered her on a Roadblock task as a Japanese taxi driver. Clearly my own Washington, D.C. area's Metro bus/subway system was too good for Christina's own good. It absolutely bewilders me that anyone would go on the show without developing sufficient driving skills. Christina's Japanese language knowledge should have allowed her to take the lead easily for her team, the fact that it didn't was her own fault.----Fortunately, the team d...

TAR 12.9: Nicolas and Donald
2008-01-12 21:29:00 The recurrent theme for grandson/grandfather Nicolas and Donald on leg nine of "The Amazing Race 12" was the tiring of grandfather Donald. Nicolas was doing more of the physical carrying of both members' backpacks to compensate for his older grandfather. More importantly, the tired Donald felt compelled to leave the taxi driving Roadblock to grandson Nicolas which led to not the best of results.Of the three racers we saw, Nicolas did the worst at the Roadblock. His problem wasn't so much in driving to the Post Office where all three racers struggled but in the return trip. While others were able to successfully retrace their paths back to Noda Station and their waiting partners, Nicolas got turned around and lost offtrack all over again. The Roadblock delay put Nicolas and Donald ten minutes behind the top two teams, the pair's difficulty on the Detour only made matters worse. Having the non-gamer Donald participate in a task that required use of modern technology made no sense. ...

TAR 12.9: TK and Rachel
2008-01-12 21:28:00 Daters TK and Rachel played themselves quickly out of the ninth race leg of "The Amazing Race 12," booking themselves on a flight that would arrive in Osaka, Japan hours behind the three other remaining race teams. In retrospect, it doesn't appear that TK and Rachel's error was even their fault. The team did its best to get assurance from the ticket agent that it had made a reservation on the first available flight to arrive in Osaka. The assurance simply didn't work. There was another available flight that the team was unaware of, a flight that got the remaining race field into Osaka hours ahead of TK and Rachel. My only thought as to how the time deficit could have been prevented was triggered when TK suggested how other teams could have used the Internet to reserve a better flight. At that point, we have to ask why TK and Rachel didn't look at the net themselves. The daters could have gained themselves at least a chance at finding tickets on that other flight, given such an obv...

Race leaders TK & Rachel found a travel agency with an agent that absolutely assured them that a flight through Hong Kong and New Delhi, leaving at 6:55 p.m., would be the fastest available to arrive in Osaka. Grandson/grandfather Nicolas & Donald went straight to the airport, booking tickets for a separate one-stop flight departing at 8:30 p.m. through Hong Kong. Ronald and Christina booked tickets through another travel agency for the same flight but Ronald fumed outside Mumbai's airport after their taxi driver dropped his team off at a no entry point. TAR12 ninth episode audience highest since premiere
2008-01-08 20:35:00 Last Sunday's ninth episode of "The Amazing Race 12" drew the largest overall audience for the series since the TAR12 premiere. An average 11.99 million viewers (to be rounded up to 12.0 million on my charts) watched the latest "The Amazing Race 12" according to the CBS press release. "The Amazing Race 12" also drew a same-day 3.9 Nielsen rating among key age 18-49 viewers, a much improved rating from the two holiday weeks. The series was likely helped by a lead-in "60 Minutes" interview of embattled baseball pitcher Roger Clemens.TAR finished a weekly 14th place in overall audience, tied for 13th in age 25-54 and tied for 15th in age 18-49 against much tougher competition than previous weeks. In any event, the most recent ratings confirm my belief that the earlier dip in audience levels was simply due to the scheduling of episodes over holiday weekends, not any fault of the series itself. ----Relevant link: CBS PressExpress

"Amazing Race" ratings return to pre-holiday level
2008-01-07 22:31:00 Initial indications are that "The Amazing Race 12" returned this week to its stronger pre-holiday ratings level, despite competition from the impressively rated "Desperate Housewives" cliffhanger and "American Gladiators" revival. For the third episode in a row, a football overrun made getting even a precise preliminary estimate for the full hour an impossibility. In the 9 p.m. half-hour though, "Amazing Race" was estimated with a 3.4 demo rating in the 18-49 age group and 11.5 million overall viewers. Both measures were well above readings for the previous two episodes, both negatively impacted by holiday viewing disruptions and rerun lead-ins. Last night's TAR12 episode was surrounded by original content from both "60 Minutes" and "Cold Case" to make for a more impressively unified CBS Sunday lineup.Relevant link: PIFeedback.com

TAR 12.9 recaplette, TK & Rachel noneliminated
2008-01-07 05:12:00 The outcome of the ninth episode of "The Amazing Race 12" was drained of suspense soon after its beginning as the airline flight carrying new daters TK and Rachel to Osaka, Japan landed hours behind the other teams. The serene daters were left as a nonfactor, finishing in last place but avoiding elimination as the leg was predesignated as the final nonelimination leg. TK and Rachel had been assured by a travel agency that their India Air flight through New Delhi and Osaka was the fastest flight from Mumbai, India to Osaka, Japan. The agency was wrong. The other three teams found a more direct flight through Hong Kong that moved them ahead of the wayward TK and Rachel. We saw only a minute long clip of highlights of TK and Rachel in Japan with glowing voiceovers of the team members towards each other. The obvious implication was that we were hearing their good-byes to the show. One wonders what the good-bye would be if TK and Rachel happen to actually be eliminated on the next leg, ...

With Kynt and Vyxsin gone, their fans will have to find a new favorite team (TK & Rachel, perhaps) to cheer for in the homestretch of the run. While two of the remaining relationships seem on solid ground, the father/daughter team of Ronald & Christina and the dating team of Nathan & Jennifer have to restitch the seams back together if only for their final legs on the race. Despite their respective disunities, at least one of those teams must make the finale since only one more elimination remains for this run.The obvious question is whether that elimination will actually greet racers on this next to next to last leg of the race. One nonelimination and one elimination leg remain before the expected January 20 finale airing. My suspicion is that tonight's leg will be the nonelimination one. If this leg was an elimination leg after all, then the race would be down to its fin...

TAR 12.8: Kynt and Vyxsin
2008-01-05 20:52:00 Kynt and Vyxsin's teamwork took an extremely rocky turn on leg seven of "The Amazing Race 12" but while their unity was reestablished, what ultimately doomed the Goths on leg eight were simple errors of strategy and basic gameplay. The pair actually started out in good form, actively seeking an alternate Northwest Airlines flight to beat out TK and Rachel to Mumbai, India. Blind luck allowed them to beat out the other teams as well but their lucky advantage proved short-lived as the newspaper stand destination would not open till early morning.Vyxsin found the newspaper ad first but getting lost to Chaucan Tailors cost the team a lead that it never gained back again. The nonelimination Speed Bump yoga task knocked the team to last. The reunified team recovered some time on the infighting Nathan and Jennifer during the 'thread 'em" Detour, then reached the U-Turn in fourth place ahead of Nathan and Jennifer. If only they had been more aware of their own race standing...----Vyxsin ...

TAR 12.8: Ronald and Christina
2008-01-05 20:26:00 The father/daughter team of Ronald and Christina fell back into old form on leg eight of "The Amazing Race 12," this time though with the key difference of Christina finally starting to fight back. Christina's reclaiming of her own space allowed the team to advance to the next leg of the series.Ronald and Christina had a decent start as being one of only two team to pre-reserve airline tickets out to Mumbai, while three other teams waited ticketless at Florence, Italy's closed airport. It's a wonder that other teams aren't thinking ahead on this point. The pair found the newspaper ad clue in second place.----Their team coordination fell apart though once at the Detour. It's been said that in his prime, pro wrestler Ric Flair could have carried a broom to a four-star match. As it turned out, Christina would have been more successful teaming with that broom than with her father on the eighth leg Detour. The panels for the movie poster in the "Paste 'em" Detour were put up too hi...

TAR 12.8: Nicolas and Donald
2008-01-05 20:11:00 Grandson/grandfather team Nicolas and Donald had a mostly postive experience on the eighth leg of "The Amazing Race 12" with Donald's life experience again proving key for the team. While ultimately proving irrelevant, Nicolas and Donald may have made the shrewdest play of the race in making plane reservations for Mumbai the night before the Florence airport opened, allowing the team to gain more valuable sleep time. What was more lame was their failed attempt to look over TK and Rachel's newspaper while searching for their next clue.Donald's aforementioned work experience came into play for the Detour though as his work in the printing industry guided his team into successfully pasting up a six panel Bollywood movie poster. The team vied for the lead with Nicolas not making any major errors on the propane delivery Roadblock. TK was just in a little better physical condition than Nicolas with the aftereffects of the task keeping Nicolas and Donald to a second place leg finish.Desp...

TAR 12.8: TK and Rachel
2008-01-05 19:13:00 After a shaky beginning, the serene daters TK and Rachel had arguably their best leg of "The Amazing Race 12" to date to claim their second leg win of the series. TK and Rachel were initially behind the eight-ball, left waiting at the airport to make reservations from Flornece, Italy to Mumbai, India. While it isn't clear if the pair was actually fooled by Kynt and Vyxsin's self-described "performance art" stunt, what does seem clear is that the pair didn't match the aggressiveness of the other teams in seeking out alternative flight tickets, settling too quickly for the 1 a.m. arrival.----Fortunately, the arrival delay in Mumbai was equalized out, allowing the team to regain equal footing. The daters found the newspaper ad clue in the middle of the pack but Rachel's experience with floral garlands lifted her team up the standings on the Detour. The infighting that plagued the Nathan/Jennifer and Ronald/Christina teams would obviously not become an issue here.TK then subsequentl...

Grandson/grandfather leaders Nicolas & Donald made Internet reservations for an Air France flight the next day through Paris to arrive at 10:35 p.m. Ronald & Christina reserved for the same flight by phone. Other teams thought to buy tickets at the airport only to discover that it was closed for the night. At sunup, daters Nathan and Jennifer reserved tickets for the same Air France flight. TK and Rachel stepped up to the counter only to discover that said flight was now full. Kynt and Vyxsin went off on their own for a Northwest Airlines tickets through Amsterdam set to arriv...

TAR12's 8th episode scores top 10 ratings
2008-01-03 22:14:00 Despite lower than usual Nielsen ratings, the eighth episode of "The Amazing Race 12" scored among the top ten shows for the holiday week by all significant measurements! The Nielsen ratings for episode eight, according to CBS, are as follows:9.7 million overall viewers --- 9th place for the week3.7 rating in the 25-54 age group --- 6th place for the week2.9 rating in the 18-49 age group --- 8th place for the weekThe 2.9 rating in the 18-49 age group is a slight increase over the pre-Christmas episode's 2.8 mark. The 9.7 million viewers registered a more significant increase over the pre-Christmas episode's 9.0 million viewership. While these ratings are still lower than the season average, the lack of original content elsewhere helped "The Amazing Race 12" surpass all but a few programs for the holiday week anyway. Mitigating factors notwithstanding, "The Amazing Race" should be congratulated for its accomplishment.

Eighth episode TAR12 ratings continue in holiday funk
2007-12-31 18:56:00 The offhour football overrun again made getting any kind of exact preliminary ratings impossible but the inexact Nielsen ratings for "The Amazing Race 12" are roughly in the same lower range as the previous week. The 9 p.m. ET half hour (the only one not contaminated by readings from other shows) showed a 2.7 demo rating among age 18-49 viewers and an average 9.6 million viewers.I had thought that the New Years weekend would have been at least a little more advantageous for the show than the Christmas weekend. Apparently not. The obvious holiday audience combined with reruns surrounding TAR on both sides may have again dragged down the ratings numbers. Relevant link: PIfeedback.com

Next week's TAR (mostly) delayed by playoff football
2007-12-31 14:58:00 Updated television listings have the "The Amazing Race 12" unofficially set to start at 8:30 p.m. EST/7:30 p.m. CST on CBS next week, a half hour later than normal. A late NFL playoff game (Tennessee at San Diego) will delay "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race" in turn next week. If the game runs long, TAR's start time could be delayed still further. The original plan for next Sunday had been for "60 Minutes" to be preempted after playoff football to allow remaining CBS programs to start on time. However, "60 Minutes" was instead reinserted into the January 6 lineup after scoring an interview with embattled baseball pitcher Roger Clemens.----As of this point, "The Amazing Race 12" should still start at its regular time for viewers in the Pacific, Mountain, Alaskan and Hawaiian time zones of the United States. CTV will air the late playoff game football but its schedules still reflect its usual 8 p.m. Eastern start time for the ninth episode of TAR, with no buffer program between play...

TAR 12.8 recaplette, Kynt & Vyxsin eliminated
2007-12-31 04:10:00 Dating goths Kynt and Vyxsin faced the key question of whether they would be able to overcome the extra "speed bump" task to survive on "The Amazing Race 12." The team gave a noble effort but tactical errors combined with the speed bump to lead to its exit from the race. The first clue on this eighth episode of TAR12 directed teams to fly from Florence, Italy to Mumbai, India. Most teams booked tickets from Air France, Kynt & Vyxsin alternatively booked a flight set to arrive minutes later while TK & Rachel settled for a flight hours behind the pack. All the machinations would prove irrelevant though as their next destination of a newspaper stand would not open till the next day, equalizing the field.Teams were directed to look through advertisements in the Times of India newspaper for their next clue, to take an auto-rickshaw to the nearby Chauhan tailors. Most other teams found the clue in short order but Nathan and Jennifer's frustration at failing to find the ad resorted in more...

Rating adjusted upward for TAR 12.2
2007-11-14 03:23:00 The final same-day Nielsen demo rating for the second episode of "The Amazing Race 12" was adjusted upward to a 3.2 mark (from 3.1) among age 18-49 viewers. The number is still down from last week's football-inflated 4.3 rating but stands as a credible rating for the program. The adjusted result also more clearly showcases "The Amazing Race 12" as the top CBS Sunday night series among key viewers, scoring its 3.2 versus the 2.9 the following hour for "Cold Case." The preliminary estimates had shown TAR12 with only a 3.1 to 3.0 advantage.TAR 12.2 reached an overall audience of 10.5 million viewers for the network.Relevant link: PIFeedback.com

TAR12 ratings downturn to normal levels
2007-11-12 21:18:00 Fast national Nielsen ratings were decidedly more mixed for the second episode of "The Amazing Race 12" as the show was unable to sustain the strong ratings of its season premiere. This week's airing hit a preliminary 3.1 Nielsen demo rating in the 18-49 age group, well down from last week's football-inflated 4.2 but still notable as the top CBS mark for the night. The show's overall audience level was down to a preliminary 10.5 million, well off from last week's record setting season premiere.----One wishes that the TAR12 episode had been able to retain more of its large debut audience. It is somewhat disappointing that the 2nd episode ratings came in closer to TAR: All-Stars levels than last fall's higher rated TAR10.TAR's ratings decreased in a year to year comparsion by about 5 to 10%, not great news but a fair dropoff in comparison to many other programs that have dropped by larger percentages. In that context, the numbers that came in were still likely on the positive sid...

TAR 12.2 recaplette: Kate & Pat eliminated
2007-11-12 03:19:00 One team's relationship took a surprisingly positive turn this 2nd episode of TAR12 episode while another one went stunningly negative for a time. The second leg of "The Amazing Race 12" split teams into two tiers for most of its run. The majority of teams made the top flight from Shannon, Irelanbd to Amsterdam without incident. Three teams (Marianna/Julia, Ronald/Christina & Kate/Pat) were left waiting for later connections. Marianna and Julia missed the first flight from Shannon altogether after taking an elongated drive to the airport, an error that could have proven fatal in other circumstance.----At the top, siblings Azaria and Hendekea reestablished their lead in Amsterdam but made a strategic error in their Detour choice. The siblings chose the "hunt it" task of looking for matching color patterns among a multitude of bikes then biking 5 miles. Other teams chose the "hoist it" task of tying and lifting furniture by pulley to an upstairs apartment room. Hoisting clearly seemed...
