Chickaboomer Beats The Press
2008-03-20 23:10:00
THIS JUST IN! U.S. News and World Report "Washington Whispers" buzzes in the that CBS News "Face The Nation" face Bob Schieffer has changed his mind about retiring next January. TV Newser trumpets the news today. Ho-hum. Old news to Chickaboomer readers. I reported it last Saturday after 71-year-old Bob announced his change of heart at the Radio & Records Talk Radio Seminar in DC.
Joe Isuzu: Al Sharpton "He's Lying"
2008-03-20 19:00:00
Al Sharpton is: Lying about talking to Barack Obama multiple times a week. Al's not Barack's BFF if he doesn't know Barack "heard it." "It" being Rev. Jeremiah Wright's incendiary, anti-American, racist rants.Knowing all and lying about Barack's pew time in Wright's church. Here's Al March 14th at the Radio & Records Talk Radio Seminar in Washington, DC where he bellows Barack should've left Wright's church "if he heard it." Al, your dick's in a vise after Barack admitted he "heard it" three days later March 17th.
Al Sharpton: Drop Dead!
2008-03-20 02:01:00
Just my riff on that famous NY tabloid headline: Ford To City: Drop Dead. What brass-balled WOR NYC talk show host Steve Malzberg really said to hypocritical sleazemeister Sharpton: "Shut Up, Al!" The crafty corrupt media-coddled creep Al was pretending he didn't "know" Obama's "spiritual adviser" Rev. Jeremiah Wright's anti-American, racist rants. Steve was on a Radio & Records Talk Radio Seminar panel moderated by ABC's "This Week's" George Stephanopoulos. George stood there like a potted plant as Steve, Al, and liberal talk radio dude Ed Shultz went at it. Steve, I love your spunk and guts to take on this a-hole everyone else fondles with kid gloves. There's more where this came from on my ChickaBoomBox You Tube page. I was dicking around all afternoon with my new editing toy and By Jove, I think I've got it! Also on the incendiary and sometimes funny panel March 14th in DC: Jim Bohannon, G. Gordon Liddy, Jeff Katz (WBT Charlotte), Phil Valentine, Stephanie Miller.
Al Sharpton: A Whiter Shade Of Beyond The Pale
2008-03-17 11:26:00
Al Sharpton and conservative WOR NYC talk show guy Steve Malzberg were at each other's throats at last weekend's R&R Talk Radio Seminar. The two appeared on a panel that was supposed to resemble a presidential debate. The issue: Obama's "spiritual adviser" Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Sharpton had just slammed Hillary for trotting out surrogates like Geraldine Ferraro to attack Obama. But in the video clip I'm trying to edit and bring to you (I'm a novice at this) when it comes to Obama's surrogates "nobody's reponsible for what surrogates say."
R&R Trivial Pursuit
2008-03-16 19:12:00
Hung out with Westwood One's Jim Bohannon. Jim and I always hang out together at these radio things. Did the usual "Thelma & Louise" hotel room routine with PR whiz Rita Rich. The opening night "Talktail" wasn't as rocking as in past years. I left and went up to the room to catch up on Chickaboomer. But not before Bill Press's producer Peter (how's that for alliteration?) boomed: "So YOU"RE the Chickaboomer? I read you every day." Yeah, Peter, I will do your show. Met Bill at the NAB Radio Show in Charlotte last September. Love the guy! Ran into Bob Klopfenstein, GM of Doug Stephan Multimedia which produces Doug Stephan's "Good Day" syndicated talk radio show. I'd helped Bob K get an in with Jay Leno. He asked me to do the same with Conan O'Brien. Will do, Bob. And, yes, I'll do Doug. Really liked talking with Radio America's Michael Packer, VP Programming. He checked out Chickaboomer and was amazed that I was doing the massive content solo. 3WT Bonneville DC PD Greg Ta...
R&R Talk Radio Seminar: Radio Daze
2008-03-16 18:00:00
The turnout only drew two-thirds of the usual suspects, or so I was told. WABC's Phil Boyce, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, among others, were M.I.A. over WABC Radio's septuagenarian conservative flamethrower fired-by-Phil Boyce-and-rehired-by Phil Boyce Bob Grant R&R giveth and taketh away "Lifetime Achievement Award." At the closing awards ceremony Saturday, Erica Farber, R&R's prez and publisher, gratefully thanked those who DID show up for this year's Talk Radio Seminar. I said goodbye to Erica on my way out. She bit her lower lip and looked like she was about to cry. The debacle wasn't her fault. Hardly. It was R&R's parent company Nielsen's wussy knee-jerk reaction to creep Scott Pellegrino's blast emails to Nielsen execs with a laundry list of Grant's past racist remarks. A gross overreaction to serial race-baiter and talk radio flamethrower Al Sharpton on the TRS menu. I wasn't the only one picking up the somber vibes. One guy told me it felt like "a funera...
Dobble Head
2008-03-16 17:29:00
Gobs of Dobbs from R&R's Talk Radio Seminar. The setting: Renaissance Hotel DC ballroom. Ted Baxter's body language double Dobbs slithers his way up to the stage after his suck-up intro by ex-Fox News Tee Vee talking head John "The Big Story" Gibson now languishing in Dante's radio inferno as of last week. Me (insincerely): "It really sucks about your TV show." Gibson (deflated like a day-old helium balloon): "It [Fox radio Siberia] really is a terrific thing... In TV I just read the TelePrompTer"... Me: "Like an automobile assembly line." Gibson (demurring): "I don't want to say anything. I might still end up on TV." Or words to that effect. Back to Lou. He takes two calculated steps up the stairs. Turns around. Walks in front of the stage microphone in hand reveling in his introduction as a "super talent." "Can I do this?" croons Lou. "I feel like a college professor." [behind the podium] "Thank you Fox News!" Yeah, he never thought he'd be saying that. Laughs and cl...

What About Bob?
2008-03-15 15:51:00
CBS Newsdude and honky tonk band leader Bob Schieffer is one cool guy. I told him so after his speech this a.m. "You've got spunk," I laughed. "I like guys with spunk!" (Recall Lou Grant to Mary Tyler Moore.) See "Bob Rocks"Bob got off a hilarious line about the obscene cost of presidential elections and the disputed Michigan and Florida Democratic primaries. "How about naming them like stadiums? The "Chick-Fil-A Michigan primary?" Rush Limbaugh had a significant impact on the Mississippi Democrat primary. Yesterday Edison Institute's Larry Rosen crunched Mississippi Dem primary numbers and discoverd Rush Limbaugh's vote-for-Hillary "mischief" netted Hillary 25 percent of the Republican vote and five delegates. Bob told us he hadn't heard those numbers. I don't think Bob expected a question about delusional Dan Rather but he got one. "Here's where I'm going to sound like a politician. "We've been told not to comment." [with Dan's $70 mil lawsuit againt CBS looming.] A some...
Radio & Wreckers
2008-03-14 12:57:00
I'm in DC for the Radio & Records Talk Radio Seminar. Lemme see. Who's on for today? The good Reverend Al Sharptongue debating with George Stephanopoulos, Jim Bohannon, G. Gordon Liddy and others "the biggest topics and issues facing America" in a "reverse" debate formatted like presidential debates. All hell breaks loose as gay retired military vet planted in the audience by CNN hijacks the microphone. "Moderated by ABC's George, this session will show who stands up best under the pressure." Goodness, gracious, Great Balls Of Fire! Gotta get my ass downstairs.

"I can't compete with God." Charlotte, NC WCNC TV news director on six-figure anchorman Chris Justice leaving to become a Baptist preacher. Charlotte Observer The NBC affiliate is owned by Belo. Inside Cable News: Yesterday, a Dow Jones Newswires story quoted Warren Buffett as saying the dollar will be ?worthless? if the current account deficit continues. This morning, Buffett phoned CNBC?s Becky Quick during Squawk Box to correct the story. Quick literally interrupted Jim Cramer and Steve Liesman to repeat what Buffett was telling her ? he said the dollar would be ?worth less?, not ?worthless?. The Universe gets even with Nielsen for taking back conservative NYC talk radio legend Bob Grant's lifetime achievement award that was to be given to him at Radio & Records March talk radio seminar. Nielsen owns R&R. Grant got dumped after some psycho radio guy emailed Nielsen with a catalog of Grant's racist remarks. Al Sharpton is a keynote speaker at the event. ICNBasketball gr...
Radio & Wretched Redux
2008-01-23 17:16:00
Phil Boyce, WABC Radio PD on R&R's withdrawing a lifetime achievement award to septuagenarian conservative flamethrower Bob Grant: "We made lemonade out of a lemon."Boyce doesnt believe respected publisher Erica Farber "had much to do with the decision." Talk radio host Jim Bohannon told me the same thing during this morning's "Chickaboomer Does..." interview. Nielsen, R&R's parent company (2006 acquisition), is getting fingered as wimping out after a disgruntled lone psycho - who apparently hates everyone from what media insiders tell me - emailed a laundry list of Grant's racial slurs to Nielsen execs. Nielsen caved to appease race baiter Al Sharpton who will be blowing toxic fumes up the probably sparse audience's asses at the R&R thing. Phil tells the NYDN's David Hinckley "he doesn't know yet" whether he will attend the March R&R convention at which Grant was to have been honored."It will be interesting to see if attendance there is affected." Yeah, I sai...
Chickaboomer Does Jim Bohannon
2008-01-23 12:59:00
Chickaboomer: How did you get interested in radio?Jim: I was in high school in Lebanon, Missouri [pop. 6,000] and I thought it would help me meet girls! I was the class geek. The white Steve Urkel. I thought it would increase my stud quotient so I went down and applied at my local radio station, KWLT. We called it "Keep Listening, We're Trying!" C: What kind of gig did you get? Jim: I did everything. country, jazz, middle of the road, news, you name it - all for a dollar an hour. I''ll never forget the general manager. The minimum wage was a dollar an hour. The GM said "I'd pay you what you're worth, but it's illegal." I was a sophonore in high school. 16 years old. C: Where did you go from there? Jim: I went to college in Springfield, Missouri and worked at KICK radio. A little rock and roll station. I was a disc jockey and got to meet the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, and James Brown. C: How did you get to meet the Beatles?Jim: I took three busloads of kids up to see them in Kan...
Radio & Wretched
2008-01-18 14:02:00
Michael Harrison's rival Talkers mag was quick to take advantage of pussified R&R's dumping septuagenarian Bob Grant's "lifetime achievement" talk radio award two weeks after picking him to receive it. Why? The slimy corrupt race-baiting Al Sharpton is performing a blow job on hapless hostages attending R&R's Talk Radio Seminar in March where Bob was supposed to get his award.Instead Talkers will bestow the award on Grant at its NYC New Media Seminar in June.NY Post Page Six reports WABC PD Phil Boyce will further embarrass R&R weasels by giving Grant the award himself. The 78-year-old NYC talk show legend appeared last night on Fox News Hannity & Colmes and blamed a "kook" for sending the lone email that caused R&R to melt like the Wizard of Oz's Wicked Witch. Bob to Sean: "You know who sent it.. Everbody in this business knows who sent it." So, WHO sent it already? Do tell... Hannity & Colmes Bob Grant videoThe back story: Years ago Bob took a racial s...
What About Bob?
2008-01-17 19:15:00
Conservative flamethrowing septuagenarian talk show host Bob Grant will go to his grave unrecognized by industry bible Radio & Records. The 78-year-old curmudgeon now back at WABC after a long stint at WOR was supposed to get R&R's 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual talk radio do. But the LA-based rag now owned by Nielsen spiked Grant's invite over racial comments he uttered in the 1990s. Washington Times NYDNGrant tells the Washington Times Radio & Records "should be ashamed of themselves.""It's contemptible that they would do such a thing. I smelled a rat right away."The rat is none other than Al Sharptongue who will be at the March talk radio seminar in DC. R&R would rather piss off WABC PD Phil Boyce than the slippery, corrupt, race pimp Al Sharpton. Phil is "shocked and hugely disappointed... R&R has egg on their face. At the same convention where they are banning Bob Grant, Al Sharpton gets to come and lecture program directors like me about w...
Jackie Oh
2008-01-01 18:00:00
NYC's doyenne of the radio airwaves, Valerie Smaldone, is on the beach. The R & R 2007 Radio Personality Of The Year walked over a contract dispute. NYPJackie Clarke (right) was pimped as a "radio personality" on last night's "Hannity & Colmes." She shills herself as a "comedy genius" and offers an "Update On My Vagina". Clarke is a portly, loud, aggressive, obnoxious, air-hogging bitch who won't be invited back. Ever. Miz Jackie's photo on her website hardly resembles the flabby-armed double-chinned porker in an ugly white printed low cut sleeveless frock. The girl has SKINNY arms on her MySpace. Why tacky Jackie was booked is beyond me. Alan Colmes got REALLY nervous after the "comedy genius" took a shot at Fox's penchant for hiring brain dead bikini babes. The panel was serving up videos of the year. Making the predictable cut: Miss Teen USA contestant's head-scratching NBC live ramble on why a fifth of Americans can't find the U.S. on a blank world map: "I personal...
Radio and Records War
2007-09-27 22:27:00
This Just In From Inside Radio National Association of Broadcasters President/CEO David Rehr says the record industry’s move to end radio’s over-the-air royalty exemption “would destroy radio’s ability to serve their communities and deliver the news and important information.” And it would also hurt new and emerging artists. He says the NAB is “actively meeting” with ...
