Raindrops falling on my head
2008-01-22 13:43:00 I was happily getting all my chores done yesterday morning when I popped my whites into the washer. Walked away from the washer and into the kitchen to do the dishes. Randy was in the garage trying to find some gadget to mount his fancy tv to the wall. He runs in and says something is um….Kara?! I look over and the ceiling is falling in the laundry room. Water is leaking all over the place and running down the walls. Remember how cold it is here? Well…that water was pretty darn cold. The pipe burst in 5 different places. What a mess. Luckily Randy could get up in the attic and fix the pipe. Thank GOD we were both home. Can you imagine coming home to a flooded basement and a flooded garage/laundry room?

This is run (coordinated?) by the Yuma Community Food Bank. Along with utilizing the Harvest Club (food co-op program), we can really save money on our groceries. We don't eat a great range of fresh veggies during the summer months because they are more expensive at that time for us. We eat canned or frozen then but in the months of December through March we get to sample a harvest of all the great vegetables this town raises. Did you know Yuma provides somewhere in the range of 90% of lettuces to the world? That's a lot of lettuces :-) There are other great veggies too and we eat lots of fresh during this time of the year. Though I usually shy away from fried foods, there is one time when I absolutely feel eating something fried is justified! Yes, I'm talking about Rain!!(any Indian would know how we flocked over samosas and vada paavs or moms got busy making bhajiyas as soon as the first rain sets in!!) Fat Raindrops Falling

Day.After a somewhat bizarre (including an Austrian Dixieland Jazz Quartet) but gorgeous (storybook castles, rolling hills) riverboat ride along Lower Austria's fantastic Wachau wine region, we landed at the famed Cafe Landtmann in the late afternoon, where my visiting friend took a long distance call from the US that involved a discussion about SpongeBob Squarepants.My Hainburg neighbor met us at the Landtmann and accompanied us over to the Rathaus for a free concert/opera. We arrived good and early to secure a seat. Two hours early.At the first note of the overture of the Marriage of Figaro, the first fat drop of rain fell on me. Pop open the umbrella.We sat huddled in the rain, in the dark, squeezing under an umbrella, trying to watch a pre-recorded opera on a screen outside the Rathaus. Fat raindrops fell. After a few more cracks of thunder we gave up the good fight and headed home.

In angkor wat, there are many poor children selling souvenirs, post cards and local ware to the tourists.
