The Ramble: 1-19-12
2012-01-20 11:28:00
Ulster, NY- Been a hell of a long week. Tomorrow’s the last day I’ll leave here and run to Newburgh, then to Northern NJ to grab some pasta… and head to Rochester with it Huntsman: Huntsman joins the list of those who dropped out….( alongwith Perry, who is a seriously classy act, but shoulda dropped out some time ago.) Already I’m hearing about how Huntsman couldn’t cut it in the GOP race because he wasn’t being hateful enough. Wouldn’t call Obama what he is… a grade one socialist. Two things strike me about this; First, that Romney wouldn’t either… and he was until recently running away with the thing. Funny how they don’t even attempt to explain that one.  The other thing that strike me here is that the timing is suggestive that Romney’s people got to him and are dangling the prospect of Vice President in his face.  If I’m correct about that, it’s the ultimate slap in the face to the G...

The Ramble for 1/9/12… The Debates Vs Reality; America has been Defe
2012-01-09 10:30:00
Carlisle, PA– A quick run down from Rochester last night, and I’ll be headed for the Albany tomorrow. From there, likely back to Rochester, but I don’t know yet.   It’s snowed around Rochester Saturday night/Sunday morning,m and we’re looking at somewhat colder temps. Was nearly 60 on Saturday around home. It’s as I tld my wife… we have a January thaw going with no real winter in front of it, this year. Actually, I don’t mind, because I would have had to drive through all that snow that we didn’t get.  But I can’t get over the feeling that nature usually balances are books, and doesn’t give us a whole bunch of warning about the matter.  I’d take note due in predicting this, but we’re going to end up with a wing-dinger a storm … and soon. The Debates vs Reality:After the first couple of debates went by, I began to sense a feeling of total loss on the part of many Americans.Allow me to explai...

The Ramble for 1-4-12: Iowa
2012-01-05 02:24:00
Oneanta, NY-  I’m set to deliver at Latham, NY in the morning. Sorry for the long time between posting a Ramble, but the internet connectivity is an issue again. It’s frustrating because I don’t understand WHY.  (shrug) Only one topic, today…. because frankly, it’s all I’ve had time to follow:   Iowa:Thanks to Art Smith for adding notes directly from Iowa.  I have a few thoughts of my own.The first being that anyone being shocked at Rick Santorum doing well, there, seems silly to me at least. Iowa voters are values voters and that’s one plkace where a large part of Santorum’s strengths lie. Whatever else might be said, Santorum’s nearly beating out Romney at least suggests that there’s problem with Romney in those areas where Santorum has strength. Romney is clearly weak, on family values issues. And regardless of him talking a good game, now, his record is weak as dishwater on most conservative issues. I note wit...

The Ramble for 12-26-11 Voting Rights, Vs Ensured Leftist Rule;Lugar’
2011-12-26 19:35:00
Sloatsburg,NY– I’m here after driving most of the day. A quick run from rochester to Bethlehem Pennsylvania, then over to Quakertown for a loadfew of paper towels. – Voting rights: over at questions and observations, Bruce McQuain in his usual take no prisoners style … which, frankly I’ve always admired, proceeds to blow up the Liberal argument surrounding the voting rights act in south Carolina. Bruce McQuain If you write a check, buy liquor or any of a myriad of different transactions throughout the year, you are asked or required to produce a valid state issued ID.  Does that adversely effect the ability of minorities to write checks or buy alcohol?  Then there’s driving.  No license, no driving. Quite so. there’s only one reason that Eric holder in his happy little band of socialist minions is chasing this particular ghost.  They are black racists, seeking to ensure a socialist future. As Bruce says, this is…. …The same ...

The Ramble for 12-21-11
2011-12-22 03:32:00
Fultonville, NY– I’m at a rest area along the New York Thruway, after having truned around 500 miles today. Not much to report, really.   Saithood?  I commend to your reading an article by Thomas Sowell. I made a point last week about Gingrich’s legislative record vs Romney’s… and Sowell does as well: While the televised debates are what gave Newt Gingrich’s candidacy a big boost, concrete accomplishments when in office are the real test. Gingrich engineered the first Republican takeover of the House of Representatives in 40 years — followed by the first balanced budget in 40 years. The media called it “the Clinton surplus” but all spending bills start in the House of Representatives, and Gingrich was Speaker of the House. Speaker Gingrich also produced some long overdue welfare reforms, despite howls from liberals that the poor would be devastated. But nobody makes that claim any more. Did Gingrich ruffle some feathers when ...

The Ramble for 12-19-11: Tebow; Hitch; Iraq Not Over; Role Reversals; Oil A
2011-12-19 15:22:00
Carlisle, PA--After three highly unusual weeks of running to the west it appears as though I will be spending the remainder of this year running east.  That’s a bit more normal for this truck line.  Frankly, we’re experiencing a bit of a pre Christmas slowdown. I’m not worried.  I’ve seen this before.  From here, I will run to Schenectady, New York.  And then from there, well, we’ll find out tomorrow. Tim Tebow: Yes, I know… His team lost yesterday, but that hardly matters to my point. Erikson tweets tweets: Regarding Tim Tebow, the last time this many people were interested in a white bronco was when OJ Simpson drove slowly down the road. Heh… yeah there is that. But let’s try a little experiment. Let’s imagine Tebow is Muslim. Does he still get the negative reaction he’s getting now from the usual suspects? Somehow, I think not. Just sayin’… Then from the other end… Hitch: Sorry to see him go&h...

The Ramble: 12-15-11; Facebook Link is Up; Dems Running Away From OWS, Newt
2011-12-15 15:22:00
Port Gibson, NY– I’m at the yard, about ready to take a rest break as this is written. By the time it goes up, I’ll be in The Bronx making a delivery.  Had some problems with the truck, in addition to the one I already had at Indianapolis on Monday. Thankfully, nothing earth-shaking. It’s running fine and I’m good to go. I managed to get the Facebook links active. What gets posted here goes to Faceook, and comments are now interlinked. We’ll see how this goes. Dems running away from OWS: Glenn says: #OCCUPYFAIL: Dems Running Away. “A planned meeting today between the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Occupy Wall Street activists was scuttled late Tuesday after Roll Call inquired about it, highlighting increasing tensions between Democrats and the movement.” Well, I predicted this. The Democrats came headlong against the one group of morons who is even more unreasonable than they… The Right to Lice movement. But then again…. ...

The Ramble 12/13/11- Indianapolis, IN… Beck, Leftie Love, Etc
2011-12-13 16:47:00
Indianapolis, IN–I’m still at Indy. At Indianapolis this morning, all ready to go, and looking good. When I got done writing yesterday’s Ramble, I did my usual pre-trip inspection of my truck and found that I had oil coming from one wheel seal. This is a possibly dangerous situation, with fire or possibly a lack of braking power being the upshot. At the very least it would fail a DOT inspection. So I had to get the thing fixed. Took most of te day to get the thing in. Turned out to be a 79 cent gasket. For this, I lost a full day… some 500 miles of driving. Annoying, but that’s the nature of this game.  Since I had oil down the side of the truck and on the wheel particularly, I washed the truck. I’m glad I did because the combo of my truck and the new trailer I just picked up, looks super….. (grin) Today I’m grabbing a load here in Indy, and I’m off to Williamson, NY, to arrive there sometime tomorrow. Beck, etc:Let me p...

The Ramble for 12-12-11
2011-12-12 14:34:00
Indianapolis, Indiana--.. As this is written, I am in Indianapolis for the third week in a row.  They’ve got me picking up new trailers out here and ferrying them back to Rochester… an effort to upgrade the entire fleet of trailers that we have.  These that I’ve been bringing back are pretty good shape and will make a nice addition.  Last week ran a little over 3000 miles, the week before that ran a little under 3000 miles.  In the trucking business, if you’re a single driver as opposed to a team driver, 3000 miles is as good as you usually get during the week.  Normally I get around 2500.  Since I get paid by the mile, you can pretty much figure out why I’m happy about the additional miles. On Friday of last week I finally got the hotspot working on my mobile phone, which basically is how I tie to the Internet through my laptop.  You can understand that I felt kind of cut off by this malfunction.  It’s good to have it back. John Corzine...

The Ramble: 12-9-11
2011-12-09 11:59:00
Sloatsbburg, NY–  I’m making the last 500 or so miles today, of a week that’s seen me crossing a dozen or more state lines, and running nearly 3000 miles, from the midwest to New Jersey. A productive week.  I also managed to get my internet connectivity working, finally. The snow has started.  This pic was taken on I-81 yesterday morning, just outside Scranton, PA. I usually worry about such matters, snow does make driving more of a challenge… but what the bleep… it’s December. The real issue is that the snow started so late this year, I worry we’re gonna get clobbered the rest of the season. Just as there’s a balance in the world that for every human progress, there is an Al Gore, Nature has a way of balancing the books that usually disregards the people such balances affect. The case is made: When even Leftists start saying that Kagan should recuse herself.… maybe it’s time for the rest of us to demand it.  Look, ...

The Ramble for 11/29/11
2011-11-29 18:18:00
Buffalo, NY– I’m at the Erie County Medical Center, dropping off some furniture that I picked up at Elkhart IN. A nice little stretch of the legs. I’ll be back at the yard in a few hours and ready for my next adventure. This trip out west is likely a rare event, but I must say I woldn’t mind it happening more often. I’ve been getting a bit tired of New York City. That said I’ll doubtless end up there in the next day or two. Leadership? Which way? I’m convinced, in talking and reading, that there is enough momentum in the rank and file of the GOP… and, after Obama,  many rank and file Democrats, for that matter, to put a real conservative in the White House and in most seats in both houses of Congress. That said,  I’ve also become convinced that the GOP leadership, which has been tilting increasingly to the left for generations now, is our sole roadblock to getting a real conservative in the White House. With the current GOP c...

The Ramble for 11-21-11
2011-11-21 21:21:00
Milton, PA– I came down here last night with a load of  green beans and such. They’re unloading me as I write this. It’s cool around here today, but not yet cold, except at night. My truck is running fine.   My internet connectivity is a little screwy as I get used to the new phone. That will pass, I’m sure. Let’s get to it.   OWS and Animal Farm:Glenn notes: #OCCUPYFAIL: OWS Organizers Occupying Luxury Hotels. “Tents are not for me.”It really is getting more and more like Animal Farm all the time, isn’t it? Quite. If there’s anything surprising about this it’s that anybody is surprised. I notice over to OTB Joyner is bemoaning the violence now being used occasionally against OWS protesters. I tell him: There is a point in time at which civil disobedience becomes criminal.  Force is used against criminals every day of the year. In every kind of country including ours. Why, after months of this nonsense, is anyone… even Gree...

The Ramble for 11-16-11
2011-11-17 01:57:00
Columbia, NJ- I’m set to run into the city at about 3am, and am taking a rest break before doing that. It’s raining here, fairly hard, though the radar says it’ll slack off shortly. Hacking: The last few days, I’ve been having problems hitting Limbaugh’s site. Anyone else notice this one? Obamacare: Walter Russel Mead suggests that Obamacare is killing small medical practices. He’s right, of course. One more reason why most Americans want this Obamacare monster killed. Both are points largely ignored by the Obama house organs in the supposedly mainstream media. UNCLE SAM: RIPOFF ARTIST: Frank Flemming, by way of Glenn: It wouldn’t be so bad if Uncle Sam earned his money, but he doesn’t. He’s never produced anything — he gets all his money through deception. For instance, he said he was going to provide retirement savings for everyone, but the whole thing is a Ponzi scheme in which Uncle Sam constantly raids the funds while giving people a ...

The Ramble for 11-15-11 Sandusky, McQuery, Michael Jackson, And Star Power
2011-11-16 01:44:00
Utica, NY– I’m back.  In more ways than one. I spent the weekend here with my wife of 22 years, and had a wonderful time. Odd, that this was one of the first places I had to come to unload freight. It’s not as nice a place to be, as it was over the weekend. Got a new phone over the weekend, as well.  The Droid 2. Nice phone but lots of things I have to unlearn. It’s quite different from the Palm I’ve carried for quite some time, now. The Palm was getting a little beat up…. life in the truck is hard on people…. and harder, I think on electronics.   I’m sitting in a Starbucks, drinking cocoa. They’re already playing Christmas music on the speakers. Too early. Just now, they’re playing a cut from the Neil Diamond Christmas album.  I’ve always admired Diamond, a wonderful voice and from all accounts a nice sort. But there’s something about one of the more popular Jewish entertainers, singing about Christ t...

The Ramble for 11-7-11
2011-11-08 03:53:00
Carteret,NJ– I’m dropping  a load of canned veggies. I’ll camp out for the night, once that’s done. It’s getting colder at night, but thank God my Auxiliary Power unit is working fine. This will be a short week for me; My wife and I got married on 11-11-89.  That makes this Friday, 11-11-11, our 22nd anniversary.  No way we’re not going to celebrate THAT one. So, I’ll be back in Rochester about mid-day on the 11th. It’ll cost me income, but it’s worth it. It’s the Spending, Stupid: Let’s put the demands of the socialist #OWS crowd into some real perspective, shall we?  Supposedly, the big issue with tehse morons is profits by banks.  Sorry, wrong answer. The  fact is that the total 2011 pretax profits of the entire US financial sector stands at $426B. That’s almost enough to fund the federal government for 42 days, given it’s current rate of spending.  Wanna take all those making a profit? Fine. Th...

The Ramble for 11-1-11
2011-11-01 17:04:00
Roterdam,NY– I’m here dropping off a load of walnuts, that I brought up from Jersey. Nothing overly special to report… except that it’s been a bust few days so far. I may have something special to talk about tonight, however. Now the Slur Machine gets warmed up against Cain: Over at OTB, they’re playing the tune the Democrats and the GOP Castrati love to sing: After initial responses from his staff that were fairly close to being incompetently disastrous, Herman Cain spent most of his day in Washington today responding to the allegations raised by the story posted by Politico last night regarding sexual harassment allegations made against him 20 years ago: Herman Cain emphatically denied on Monday that he had ever sexually harassed anyone, calling allegations of harassment by two former employees “totally baseless and totally false” and saying that he is the innocent victim of a “witch hunt.” With the allegations threatening his bid for the Re...

The Ramble for 10-28-11
2011-10-28 22:34:00
Indian Castle, NY– I’m along the New York State Thruway, headed home for the weekend, by way of a short stop at Geneva, NY. Your intrepid blogger and his mighty steed. (Did I really say that?) We had some ice and snow around here last night, which slowed my progress something terrible, so I didn’t make it home as planned. But, since I wasn’t scheduled for anything after this anyway, I wasn’t too worried. I’ll get to Geneva around 630pm, and from there to the yard, and the arms of my loving wife, who will be waiting for me. We’re supposed to get more snow, too.  Nature seems to agree, we’ve got a big one coming. I’m noticing bigger seagulls than usual… the big lake birds, not the usual winged rats you see hanging around shopping malls and such… never a good sign, in terms of oncoming weather. Oh, well, at least I’ll be home. The truck is running well, with the exception of a broken belt in my right steer tire....

The Ramble for 10-26-11
2011-10-27 00:22:00
Ridgefield, NJ– I’m at the Vince Lombardi rest area for a rest break. I’ll be going into the city shortly after midnight. But what are they, really? and what are they fighting for?: OK, like a lot of you, I too am getting to the point where I have a little “occupy” boredom. I’m bored with it.  Now, the press seems enamoured with them, but they tend to like anything that tilts left.  Here’s what the press thinks of “Occupy Wall Street”.. and for the purpose of reference, what they think of the supposed counterpart of “Occupy”… the Tea Party.  But what are they? Why are they there, really? Seems to me that like McKay in the movie “The Candidate” that I mentioned the other day, it’s a movement in search of a cause. Let’s ponder, for a moment, though just what a lot of them have been mouthing, and why they’re there. They clearly want to shut our financial engine down. Well, isn&rsq...

The Ramble for 10/24/11
2011-10-25 03:21:00
Sloatsburg, NY— I’m at the Thruway Rest area just north of the NY-NJ border. From here I’ll head to Connecticut, and then back here to Jersey, and then to Western NY. Getting cooler by the day, and we’ll see rain here for a few days. I’m very pleased with the truck; it’s running very well.   What is “Occupy” doing? Yes, it’s losing it’s bite as I suggested yesterday. (If you missed that, read it here.) But apparently there’s a fair amount of violence going on.  Shootings are reportedly up some 154% in NYC since ‘Occupy’ started. Things the liberal press will never tell you. Where’s all his Friends? Politico says Dems are ducking Obama on campaign trail. In trips to Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania — all states that he carried in 2008 — members of Congress were notably missing from the president’s side. Must be all that stuff about the ‘dysfunctional congress’. Whic...

The Ramble for 10-20-11

Brunswick, NJ– I’m going up to Queens in the morning, then back into Jersey and then to Connecticut.  Drying out now, but cool. Truck is fine, and I am as well. Occupy Wall Street and the Chicago ’68 Riots I commend to your reading this article. The insights are very powerful. Fred Seigel makes the same link. Why Is Class Hatred Morally Superior to Race Hatred? Dennis Prager asks and answers this one. Khaddafy killed. I still have this poster somewhere in my collection. It was passed out to all who saw the movie the first week of release. I saw it in the DC area, that week. Does anyone remember the Robert Redford movie from about 1973, called “The Candidate”? He goes through the process of getting himself elected to public office, and then asks “Now, what?”  Seems to me that’s the question we should be looking at. It strikes me that nature abhors a vaccum. It also seem to me that if the Obama administration paid as much attention t...

The Ramble for 10/19/11
2011-10-19 23:30:00
Ayer, MA— I’m what, about 60 miles off the New Hampshire Border, just off I-495. I’m here taking a break having driven up from the house yesterday. Raining here, pretty hard, and has been since last night. They’re getting some minor flooding around here as a result. This has to be a quick one, as I’m supposed to be on the move in a few minutes. Perfect? Thinking ones self to be without fault is a sure sign of a delusional mind. I guarantee it’s going to be a close election [in 2012] because the economy is not where it wants to be and, even though I believe all the choices we’ve made have been the right ones, we’re still going through difficult circumstances. Right, Barry. Clueless AND delusional. Medic! Bring the “I love me” jacket, please. Brian Terry needs answers. He’s one of the people, in his case an ATF agent, who died as a direct result of the Obama administrations attempt to limit the second amendment by planting false i...

Dan Riehl has this one correct: Today, the Democrats are reaping what Stern, the Phoenix Group, Kos, and others sowed, as they were always out of step with the majority of the country. These are precisely the fights, the changes, they wanted when taking over the DNC. They’ve been plotting it for years. They’re there. And if they fail, the Democrats, the Netroots and all the associated characters will find themselves in disarray. I have always said here that the Democrats would runs smack dab into the teeth of reality. Even excluding the fiscal reality of their Neo-social...

Well, that’s what TV Week is reporting.  Obviously, Mr. Obama is going for the thinking man. Welcome, one in all, to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the Blogosphere… the BitsBlog Nightly Ramble ALL IN ON HEALTHCARE: Some interesting thoughts on this, from the Washington Examiner this morning. Look,  guys, they know they’re going to lose big time at the next election because of their going “all in” on the government takeover of health care. The vast majority of the American people don’t want a government takeover of healthcare  They know this.   At this stage of the game though, even assuming a Democrat party withdrawal and having it labeled a failure, could the price possibly get any higher?  And you see, real socialist ideologues don’t really care about the price.  The neo- socialist dogma considers being voted out of office a small price to pay for the government intervention in freedom.  Health care is no exception.  Another point; Even assuming they don’t manage to get the full government takeover, euphemis...

Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), which would mean eliminating the proposed Medicare expansion in the health reform bill, according to an official close to the negotiations. But Reid is described as so frustrated with Lieberman that he is not ready to sacrifice a key element of the health care bill, and first wants to see the Congressional Budget Office cost analysis of the Medicare buy-in. The analysis is expected early this week. “There is a weariness and a lot of frustration that one person is holding up the will of 59 others,” the official said. “There is still too much anger and confusion at one particular senator’s reversal.” Well, he certainly holding up the democrats,...

Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the JAF Edition. Hope and change, you know. At some point, Obama’s not going to be able to blame Bush anymore. The American people have already started to see that the massive spending on the ’stimulus’ didn’t work. The myth of big government spending being the panacea is broken at last. And when the pain starts showing up, they’re going to know who to blame. I take no celebration in that statement. Temp Check: John Hawkins has one of his polls up, this time it’s the Rightosphere Temperature Check For May, 2009 An interesting read that pretty much confirms what I’ve been saying about the matters John asks about. Those dirty rich: Fabius Maximus has an interesting writeup today on HIS vision of Reforming America. It’s interesting, that the vision he proclaims is vastly different from than words of The Chosen One. ™ He identifies something that I’ve spoken of here before: Unfortunately, the class that has led America — and done so well during our first two centuries — appears to have lost interest in the project.  They prefer to skim the profits off the top, and hope the ship drifts along in the...

Nightly Ramble: Big Airliner Edition
2009-04-28 22:02:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble. This is the “Big Airliner” Edition AF One flies over NYC, Obama crashes: Rumors about the BitsBlog jet being the one circling Southern Manhattan aside, we’re told that Air Force One was being flown over NYC for a photo op. Just taking their word for this, for the moment, (Always a dangerous proposition) I can’t wait to see what the photos get used to promote, can you? I mean, can you imagine how successful those photos will be for  promoting anything? And forgive me that I find annoying the FAA was hiding behind it’s regulations… supposedly wouldn’t tell us what was what on a cloud of secrecy. There’s something about this that smells of arrogance of the first order.  In other words, Obama. Can’t wait to see his approval numbers in NYC now… What about photoshop? OK, look, I can fully understand why Obama would want foota...

Nightly Ramble: LightHouse Edition
2009-04-27 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the LightHouse Edition Mother’s day alert:  First of all, let’s take time out for this important message: You do know Mother’s day is this coming Sunday, right? Yeah. You’re welcome. Fur Flying: Lots of fur flying from my Pajamas Media piece posted earlier today, and that’s pretty much as I expected. I suspect I may have snarked the comment stream into silence, though, earlier today. We’ll see. Better than you: But there’s more in the way of indirect linkage to the points I made in that bit than I ever imagined. Take for example Mark Steyn, who points up in a post at The Corner today: My old editor, Charles Moore, has a piece in the London Telegraph on the 30th anniversary of Mrs Thatcher’s arrival in Downing Street. Very pertinent, as Britain regresses to the basket-case Seventies. But this passage, I think, ha...

Nightly Ramble:The Garden Store Edition
2009-04-24 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere: The ever more popular BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Garden Store Edition When government rises, true charity falls: This blog has pointed out for years, that when taxes go up, ostensibly to support social services programs, actually charity giving suffers.  So it is no shock to find that the immediate effect of Obama’s enforced ‘volunteering’ for teens is that Youth volunteering is falling for first time since 9/11… Liar, Liar: No shock, either, to find that Nancy Pelosi is lying through her teeth about not being briefed on water boarding.  I’d like to see her under oath on this stuff, but with Democrats in charge, it ain’t gonna happen. ZZZZZZ: Well,, perhaps she was asleep, like Obama’s Financial advisor, Larry Summers, yesterday.   I wonder if she’ll cop to that, though, You Dirty Rattner:  Kaus is still chasing the bit with Rattner. You gotta ...

Nightly Ramble: The “Well, Blow Me Down” Edition
2009-04-23 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the very more popular, always talked about, never equaled most intense nightly read on the sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble. This is the The “Well, blow me down” edition. Oops… I forgot: Turns out it was ‘Bring your behavioral problem to work‘ day. I got a reminder on arrival at work, this morning, of course. If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute: The weather around here is screwy. Snow flurries last night. Tomorrow, and the day after, they’re predicting 80 degrees. Welcome to my world. Harman: Oddly, David Frum confirms my read of the Harman case. This smells a CYA operation of the first order.  Harman’s an idiot, but one gets the decided impression someone’s using her as a scapegoat. We’re watching. So is Ed at HotAir, who has a different angle.   I agree with Ed, here, but this still smells to me of projection. Touching: Ann Coulter’s mom died last week. I hadn’t h...

Nightly Ramble: The “Keep It Under Your Hat” Edition
2009-04-22 22:03:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the “Keep it under your hat” edition. Earth day: Ah, yes… we’ve not heard much about Earth Day, this year, have we? Certainly not as much as we have in previous years.  It is today, you know. I  suppose it not being front and center is due to two situations: First, Democrats are in charge, and to call attention to the plight of Gaia as OwlGore is wont to do, would only show the electorate that the Democrats really aren’t doing all that much about ’saving the earth’ either.  Secondly, even the Enviro-whackjobs are started to see that the whole thing was a scam from the get go. They’re not quite ready to let go of their anti-human paranoia, but neither are they willing to continue making fools of themselves, either. Me? I’m celebrating Earth day by toddling down to the gas station,  and filling up my...

Nightly Ramble: The Billboard Edition
2009-04-21 22:02:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The world famous, ever more popular BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Billboard Edition. For a small percentage: So, Obama’s making lots of hay out of a call to save $100 Million? God bless Jake Tapper. Surber seems to agree. As I mentioned in Last Night’s Ramble, Obama and his people never bother to mention in terms of percent of the budget. Here’s why: The total savings amounts to (ready?) 0.00027% of the budget.  Tell you what; courtesy of The Heritage Foundation, let’s put this supposed cut in perspective:  And should I mention the Democrats in Congress are already annoyed at having even that much less to spend? To answer Gibbs, let’s out it this way: Only in Washington, and only among the Democrat party can the federal budget balloon by record amounts, while Democrats try to credit themselves for cutting the budget.  Starting to understand what a croc...

Nightly Ramble: Ten Tons O’ Stuff Edition
2009-04-20 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere … The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble. This is the Ten Tons o’ Stuff edition It’s all indicative: How is it President Water Walker has no problem releasing interrigation memos, but won’t release his birth certificate? It’s called “Reality”.  Look into it. And no, regarding those memos, I really don’t care about what’s being reported as tourture, because it isn’t torture, any more than being forced to listen to Barry Manilow covering AC/DC.   There’s a lot in the way of frantic sounding appeals to the high moral ground on this, all sounding like a ‘UNICEF’ PSA.  All nonsense, of course.   But look, even if it were torture…. and again I say…. even if it were, consider what happens to your moral and legal high ground if you don’t survive?  What happens is your enemy gets to choose what is moral and legal, wha...

Nightly Ramble: The Friday Fish Fry Edition
2009-04-17 22:05:00
Wecome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere… where the typos are always free. The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Friday Fish Fry Edition. (Chuckle) Insty notes Micheal Graham: MICHAEL GRAHAM: Janet Napolitano was right. There were hatemongers at the Tea Party rallies on Tax Day. They called themselves “reporters.” Remember when journalists sneered at those dumb bloggers with their obvious biases and potty-mouth approach? . . . . Yep. What you guys fail to connect with however, is the idea that anyone who agrees with the leftist dominated Dinosaur media, cannot possibly be biased in their eyes, because they think themselves unbiased. No amount of pointing to biased behavior like what we saw the other day, will convince them that THEY… The Dinosaur Media… are in fact the PROBLEM. All of this is nothing new, of course.. It’s just that when the power shifted in Washtington, the bias of the Dinosaurs was much harder to hide un...

Nightly Ramble: The “Day After” Edition
2009-04-16 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nigtly read anywhere on the sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble This is the “Day After” edition. So many things went on yesterday, I can’t begin to discuss them all. An eventful day, to be sure. A day when the leftists infesting our government were served notice that the right will not be silent, anymore. Stand up! Across our nation conservatives stood up in numbers heretofore unimagined unreported, and unseen.  Estimates from a few places I’ve seen are 3,500 in Hartford, CT.  9,000 in liberal infested Madison, WI, another  2500 in Jacksonville,  2,500 in Boise, ID. 5,000 in Sacramento, CA, 16000 in Atlanta. 4000 in Lansing. New York had between 15,000 and 20,000. Of course the Dinosaurs are downplaying these numbers, lowballing them by quite a bit. Apparently, they’re trying to compensate for overplaying the numbers at the so-called ‘million man march’, or else are showing the same mat...

Nightly Ramble: The Route 66 Edition
2009-04-10 22:05:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Route 66 edition Why is it caled ‘Good Friday’? Ken Collins does a fair job with that question. God’s still here:  And why is it that the left and the press (There’s that echo again) are so busy trying to get us to think that God is dead? Seems every Easter, one major rag or another coughs this one up.  They’ve been doing it since the middle 60’s. Prostelitizing for atheism, is the simple answer, but I suspect, myself it’s simpler than that… It’s about killing what they cannot control.  I’ll point you at KJL’s fine article, today. Pirates on the Horn of Africa are flourishing because we’re letting them . In many ways, this situation is analogous to Jimmy Carter’s failures in Iran.  One does really have to wonder what would have occurred had the Crew of the Maresk Alaba...

Nightly Ramble:The Free Beer Edition
2009-04-09 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble This is the Free Beer Edition. Take a Bow: Apparently the lesson is still not learned, that it’s not the mistake, it’s the coverup. If nothing else, this confirms what we on the right have been saying for years now about Obama’s inherrent dishonesty. David extends these comments. Oh, let ‘em all come…   Seems Obama will introduce legislation including “a path for illegal immigrants to become legal” this year. In short, he’s looking to push amnesty, again. the rumbling I’m hearing just now suggests that the votes aren’t there for it in Congress, though, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. Right Wing News has an interesting interview up on this just now. Taxes and their effects:  So, after weeks of talk of rasing taxes on the producers of this country, particularly coming from Gracie Mans...

Nightly Ramble: The Snowstorm Edition
2009-04-07 22:02:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble Springtime in Western NY This is the snowstorm edition. The picture to your right is one of our fair city as (not) seen by a skycam run by a local TV station. The ray dome was covered in snow this morning. So, try to picture the downtown skyline, in your mind.  Irony abounds, the cam is positioned on top of the local association for the blind. We had 50 degrees here a couple days back. The trees were budding, the early flowers were up.  A common question around work this monring was “So, how was your summer?”  Drivers around here, meanwhile, never seem to change. Give them a break from the snow and when it comes back, they forget how to flippin’ drive. OK, I’ve lived with it all my life, but it still annoys me. Did you hope things would change? Seems to have slipped the notice of the press, but apparently Obama’s been defending wiretapping.   Not...

Nightly Ramble:The State Park Edition
2009-04-06 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere…. The BigsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the State Park edition Newspapers: Billy, personally I’m sympathetic to these sentiments, as I think most Americans are… particularly the ones who have a bloody clue what’s going on. The only problem with a bad company going out of business is that the company behind them is likely to be worse. I suppose the New York Timesto be no exception.  I personally think the nail in therir coffin will be either the mid-term elections, or the general. Their bias will be revealed once again, and will in the end so disgust people that they’ll sink below viability in terms of subscribers, and advertisers. Newspapers, Cont’d: A snark directed at Joyner while commenting on the state of Newspapers in the age of the Blog, and the newspapers trying to move to the web medium: Well, it’s true there a number of people doing it out there fo...

Sometimes, when I start talking, I just ramble until I run out of words.
2009-04-06 17:03:00
I am, right now, the sole breadwinner for a our family. That is, Middle and The Boy both work, but they work at the kind of jobs where the primary benefit is not so much the pay as it is the ability to bring home free bagels for me -- something that happens all-too-rarely, if you ask me.But I take my responsibilities as the income earner in our family seriously. I get up and make it to work on time, mostly, at least two or three days per week, and I spend upwards of 25% of my time at the office not surfing the Internet, all to bring home enough money to make sure that when the coffeemaker breaks down, we can take a jaunty trip out to Wal-Mart and get a new one, and throw in a Hershey's Bar for Mr F and Mr Bunches to split on the way home.I'd hate to think that if something happened to me, Sweetie's ability to replace coffee makers (and toilet seats, and couch cushions) at will, with a bonus candy bar thrown in, would be hampered, and I'd hate to think that she and the kids would...
Nightly Ramble: The Bumpersticker Edition
2009-04-03 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Bumper Sticker Edition. It’s Society’s fault: It strikes me that this is emblematic for the excuse making that liberals make in world affairs, too. Working class dog? Speaking of excuse making, I note word on the wire that  Michael Vick’s lawyer is telling the courts he has a job in Construction lined up. Yeah, right.  Let me know if you see pictures of him actually working, OK?  Links would be nice. It’s a matter of what you believe: Rich Lowry says Obama’s faith that his fresh attitude — more flexible and thoughtful — will in itself open new international vistas is unshaken.  It’s also mistaken, of course. Goddard, it aint: We’ll likely see NORK launch that missle tommorrow from all indications.  And from all accounts, the Administation instead of responding correctly, will do some finger shaking.  I lo...

Nightly Ramble:The Jet Airliner Edition
2009-03-30 22:01:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere; BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble This is the “Jet Airliner” edition.Since Al Gore has decreed ‘Jets are bad’, in spite of having at least one of his own, I’ve decided to get one for the Bloggers here at BitsBlog and our friends in the blogging world.   And here it is. It seats 25, has a built in hot tub, a bar, a full entertainment center,  3 workstations with Full Internet connectivity, of course,(For blogging in flight)  as well as parking for two Hummers on the lower level, for the posse once we arrive.  Great for those last minute worldly Rambles. There is other news than GM, of course, and here’s some of it: Lights Out: Speaking of Al Gore, I see that energy consuming arena he calls a house wasn’t darkened properly for ‘Earth Hour”.  The people in Nashville have started chatting about that one. One gets the impression his ‘global warmin...

Nightly Ramble: The Wonderful Wino Edition
2009-03-27 16:47:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nghtly read anywhere on the sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the ‘Wonderful Wino” edition. Olberman still a loser: Glenn Reynolds notes that Glenn Beck is outdrawing Keith Overbite. Like, this is a surprise? Rove in 2010?: I’ve been watching Karl Rove quite closely the last several weeks. I started once I started noticing he was quite a bit more visable than any of the other Bush White House alums. I’ve long since started to wonder if he’s going to be a player in the 2010 election. He clearly will be a large voice for the mid-terms.  Anyone who rattles the left that badly while being the nice guy that he invariably is, has to be worth something. He’s a little too centrist for my taste politically, but… Trouble in Doggie Land: Word on the wire is that Dylan Ratigan has quit over at CNBC.  Apparently this has been brewing for a while. Apparently Ratigan is blaming the problem on network ...
