Nightly Ramble: Gas Taxes; MP3’s and such; Handguns; More
2008-07-21 22:05:00
Davidremarked the other day on the tax hike on fuel being proposed by the Democrats. I think his headline to be crucial to understanding this thing. Imagine with me, if you will, what would happen to the Democxrats and their chances in November if they printed headlines as David did; Democrats propose fifty-four percent gasoline tax increase Think they’d stand a snowball’s chance? David calls them idiots. I think not. True, it’s a destructive plan. But they’re Democrats… since when would they EVER be held to account? They KNOW they’ll never be held to account. I’m forced to conclude it… There’s something in the inbreeding of the soccer fan.. regardless what country is involved. I wonder about this, too, speaking of soccer. Donnagets a new phone, with a decent MP3 player in it. So, I get the Sanza she’s been carrying around till now.   It’s nice, since I do have a rather large MP3 collection… I figured out ...

Nightly Ramble: Holy Movie reciepts Batman!!; AGW; The Bomb that fell on Pe
2008-07-18 15:08:00
CW holds that when the economy is down, movie houses don’t do well. So why’d we have the biggest weekend ever at the movies last weekend? Something isn’t quite up to what the Democrats and their MSM minions are advertising. Yet another Obama gaff, and one the MSM will never report: “The bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor”?  That was the one the Germans dropped, right? Someone get Brother Bluto on the phone.  How can we not elect someone with this ummmm unique sense of history, to the office of POTUS? Sheesh. Andy Dick and drugs? Hmmmmm….  And pulling her top down to have a look? The ‘vcitim’ was ‘ traumatized ‘? More likely, she was annoyed because she didn’t get paid and saw an opportunity to cash in. I mean I’m not defending Dick, here, whose antics in the past have labeled him as… well… a dick… but comon, gang… this is LA we’re talking about, here. 17 year old street walkers ...

Nightly Ramble: Oil down again; Eliminate nukes? Yeah, right; Housing Up,N
2008-07-17 15:01:00
Oil is down again… third straight day this has happened…. another $4  That’s about $15/bbl… on the hope that Congress will get out of the way of drilling. And remember, gang, I told you this would start happening about midsummer.  Pelosi meanwhile is being stupid. For the record, gang, I added nothing to DavidL saying we look for Pelosi’s removal  from office, because I agree with it.  the woman needs to leave. Now. So, Obama plans to rid the world of all known diseases all Nuclear weapons. I guess it would take a Messiah to put that particular genie back in the bottle, huh? And what Democrat since FDR has NOT made such a pledge at some point during his election? We see how well it’s worked previously, once exposed to reality. (OK, yes, hat was a nod to Monty Python) I see housing starts are up. Gee,  nobody saw that one coming, huh? Obama says “Debate ME not Michelle”. Fine. Mr Obama, when are you going to toss your wife und...

2008-06-10 22:08:00
I complained last night that Memeorandum had been pretty much ignoring BitsBlog. Apparently, someone there is reading, and they reacted. The post complaining about being ignored, got featured status. Gottena  few links through since then, a well. Nice to know they’re reading. I never knew. The timing of the thing is amusing, also… best laugh I’ve had in a week, that. Seems the Reublicans have been listening to BitsBlog, too. OK, maybe not, but at least they’ve caught on to the idea of who is to blame for the current gasoline prices…. and it’s not the oil companies. Putnam said on the Democrats’ watch, “America has become a nation of $4 gasoline. This expensive milestone arrives two years removed from an endless stream of assurances by Democrat leaders that they had their hands on a ‘commonsense plan’ to lower gas prices,” Putnam said Sunday in a news release. … Sadly, John McCain still doesn’t get it. ...

Nightly Ramble: Martyred pigs, CO2, more
2008-06-09 22:08:00
I see KSM says he’d welcome being a martyr. I would suggest burial…alive… fa-ce down down… under a pig farm. Being in a place where the pigs crap on him all day, for years and perhaps decades on end, would seem appropriate to the situation. Of course, such a solution requires being informed of where he will be buired, a week prior to execution, to allow it all to sink in. And no, there are some situations which mercy is neither a requirement, nor is it desired… and this is one such case. Speaking of pigs, Oprah was doing a happy dance for Obama the other day? Gosh, I hope the stage was reinforced. I know I mentioned the other day that the sixth Marine supposedly involved at Hadditha  was exonerated. What I failed to mention, though was that so far every single one has been so exonerated.  And once again, Jack Murtha has no comment. Uh-oh…. Maybe CO2 isn’t such a bad thing, after all. A fire at the Texas Govenor’s mansion? Arso...

Nightly Ramble: Boobs (Both kinds), Snoops, Fantasies, Social(ist) Climbers
2008-06-06 22:38:00
Leave it to The SUN to get it wrong. Oh, no question that this woman has bigguns. (Warning: NSFW) But I’ve always considered the biggest boobs in the world were Ron Paul supporters, myself. Look, Snooper. We’re not going to get through this if you don’t loosen up and tell us what you really think. Let’s see… we need $45 trillion dollars to satisfy Al Gore’s wild fanstasy? Forgive me if I don’t stand up and salute. Oh, speaking of that… We had two bozos climbing the NY Times building, yeserday. Yeah, preaching about Global warming.  Arrested at once, both of them. With any luck, they’ll remain there. Why that building? Can you think of any better way to ensure national, televised coverage of your global warming fantasy? Apparently mere facts don’t change people from chasing their ‘Hey, look at me” stunts. You say what you will about Tom Delay, I may agree. But make no mistake, here; He’s got Obama ta...

Nightly Ramble: Crazy traffic, Experience, or Something Like It,The Rezko E
2008-06-05 22:15:00
Been getting downright crazy traffic the last couple months, and none of it bigger than the last week or so. No particular reason I can see. Usually when we get traffic spikes it’s due to one article or another that some other blogger or feed site has linked. Not so, here. No idea why, but I’m enjoying it. Boortz wonders about something I’ve been asking for some months, now: Can anyone name a more inexperienced presidential candidate in modern American history than Barack Obama? Well, no, though Ross Perot and Ralph Nader come really close. It does strike me though that this comparison is apt, in that the supporters of Nader and Perot thought his lack of ties to Washington (Nee; Experience)  a net positive. Speaking of Boortz, I remarked last night about Rezko. Neal does this morning. I dunno as Rezko will of hismelf be a deal-breaker for a White House shot, but I do think it’s an additional leak for the SS Obama, a ship already showing many such leaks. As ...

Nightly Ramble: Making Americans vulnerable, Have a drink on me, wipe-out,
2008-06-04 22:21:00
From Boortz, a vid of Obama telling us how he wants to disarm America. Apparently, he hasn’t leaned the lessons of Viginia Tech. Disamring people is only going to make situations like that worse… and there’s a lot of nutjobs waiting in the wings. Seems to me this suggests a backward approach to foriegn policy, as well. Drink up, my boy. You know those anti-bacterial wipes? They can cause as many problems a they solve. I see Michael Pfleger has been suspended at St. Sabina parish. Gee. How will black leftists survive?  Says he, in the most ominous tones possible: “This is a dangerous time in America, the freest country in the world where you have to whisper your thoughts.” Well, look, Mike. Nobody forced you to whisper your thoughts. Rather you screamed them. Did you think that others couldn’t say THEIR peace? Does your right to speak, which I note you have been using quite a bit of late, precludes anyone else having that same right?  Here&rsqu...

Nightly Ramble: Dole gets it,Defending the sermon
2008-05-30 22:02:00
Yeah, posting’s been light, today. Been rather busy at work. Another Honorable Mention at OTB’s caption contest Sister says Bob Dole unloaded on Scott McClellan, excoriating the former White House spokesman as a “miserable creature” who greedily betrayed his former patron for a fast buck… thus showing Sis is on top of things… and so too is Bob Dole, despite advanced years. A firm grip on reality, that boy. Ferraro gives us more proof of what I’ve been saying all along; The Dmeocrat race is one of racism vs Sexism, and always has been. Hey, Pete… A different kind of sermon? Sure. And Hitler had another side, too, and  made the trains run on time. Would you be quite as defensive about Hagee? Nah, didn’t think so. Oh, speaking of that… I asked earlier today about Catholic Priests and politicking. Seems I was correct to question it; Lynn Sweet reports the Plieger’s been warned… Chicago Sun-Times religion reporter Mik...

Nightly Ramble:Pelosi, Olberman, Soros and other whackjobs
2008-05-29 22:02:00
I see where Nancy Pelosi is vowing to make sure there’s no infighting in Denver’s upcoming Democrat convention. I’ll tell you… if her management of House Democrats is of any indicatino of her management ability, the resulting fighting among Democrats in Denver will require a response from the National Guard to quell it. Just in case you were not aware of the deep problems inside the head of Keith Olberman… Funny thing… since the Soros connection to McClellen’s book came up, the left-o-shpere has been deadly quiet. Perhaps they’re beginning to understand? With the rail accidents as I mentioned yesterday and this monring, I have to wonder if this story was timed for these conditions. For the record, I don’t see this as a problem for the near term. And while it may be a problem for the later term, I see the railraods reacting with building as needed… always assuming the government isn’t treating them like they do th...

Nightly Ramble: Oil Bubble, A Hearbreaker, St Andrew the Incontinent gets
2008-05-28 22:26:00
Boeing is saying they expect the Oil Bubble to burst soon… basically echoing what I’ve been saying for several weeks. The Austrailians are saying it,Jordan Khan is saying it (And proving it with his charting) The Arabs are saying it… This bubble is about to burst. The only question is, how many will be hurt when it does? Mostly, the ones who weren’t selling oil short. I know I mentioned this one the other day, but this one just broke my heart. Personally, I won’t be praying too intensively for Maria. As Steinbeck once remarked, her path is already laid out for her. She’s got her job to do. She’ll be fine. This is a view not incompatible with those of us who believe that mortality is not the end… But what can be said about her brother who was driving the truck? What kind of personal hell must he be going through? It’s my guess that he can use all the good thoughts and prayers and support that he can get right now. I note with...

Nightly Ramble: Travel is down, Aw Nuts,The Chinese are attacking, Forbiddi
2008-05-27 22:09:00
Fuel prices have had a small effect on the amount of travel over the weekend, though not as much as they apparently figured on. The difference amounts to about 1% less than last year.  The problem with judging how that all will be going forward is that eventually, they’re going to break down and wanna get outta Dodge.  Staying at home only works for so long before a sort of crazy sets in.  which, by the way always was the issue with these calls for a day of boycotting oil compnaies…. leaving aside that the refiners are not to blame for the prices. I’ve run some numbers, and driving, even while hauling a big trailer,  is still cheaper.  Let’s take a trip from my home outside Rochester, NY to  Myrtle Beach. We’ll take tha trailer, which gives us around 11 to the gallon . Total miles, round trip comes out 1662 miles, which gives us a total of 151 gallons of fuel, and at $4/gallon, that comes out at $604.00 for fuel costs. Rather a lot of money. Bu...

Nightly Ramble: Memorial Day thoughts about heroism
2008-05-22 23:02:00
Single issue Ramble tonight. I want to speak briefly about Memorial day which comes up this weekend. It’s always been a special day for me, because honoring our vets has always held special meaning for me; it’s a lesson my parents instilled very well, indeed. It was brought home to me, as I was recently looking at pictures from a trip we made through the Gettysburg PA area some years ago. It’s a particularly meaningful thing, when you’re standing on that field…. Something that goes well beyond the cold facts and figures about who died from what company, how old they were, or even where they were from. It’s more a feeling you get…. You can sense it… not unlike being at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, or visiting Arlington National Cemetery. I’m told Omaha Beach, and Pearl Harbor and many other sites are the same way. I’ve been at the funerals of firemen and policemen who died in their line of duty, and that was also remar...

As predicted, Clinton in Kentucky, Obama in Oregon. The Depth of Clinton’s Kentucky win is striking , though. I’ll have to check, but I don’t know as there has ever been a Democrat who has won the White House who ever lost as many states by so wide a margin, as Obama and Clinton both have. Can’t say much for their being elected. Anyone having any doubts about my assessment of Chuck Hagel should doubt no more. A tragic situation, certainly. But worth this response? No. Government shouldn’t have been involved here. This is government leaping into a situation so as to ‘do something’ at a level where unintended consequences ensue. Same here. Billy, I have to tell you. Your answers here and your cries here would seem to be an answer for why this was such a disconnect for you. The title, perhaps, was hard to deal with? Just a thought. Nightly Ramble: Firefox,Pandora, uphill battles, more
2008-05-20 22:39:00
I use Firefox here at Casa de Bit; there’s a copy on every computer I have online. I particularly like the web development tools and the plugins for Wordpress. I gather from the rumor mill that Firefox is about ready to release version 3, assuming the reviews on the candidate go well. V3RC1 is on the site ready for download. There’s a few caveats for installing the RC, as there always is at the beta level, so be careful. By the way… if you’re a Firefox fan, as I am, you’ll love the wallpaper here. Doing some musical exploring? Got questions about a particular artist or group? Pandora seems a fair enough place to start your exploration. I’ve only had a few minutes with it, and am already impressed. Ever tried Freeware Planet? Do. It’s an arrow that has been in my quiver forever. So has Onlyfreewares.com President Bush’s message about how we have no problem with the people of Iran, just with it’s government, may be falling on ears...

Nightly Ramble:Irony, Traffic, rain, and more

My irony meter is melting. Kos is screaming about hate being directed at him. Amazing proof of what I’ve said in these spaces for years now; It’s not that you hate someone, but whom you hate that they object to. Think about it; What he’s complaining about is that someone’s using Kos-like tactics on Kos himself. For added heat on the Irony meter, consider the picture of that drooling moron, Tom Harkin, suggesting McCain is ‘too military’. Apparently, he wants us to think he slept through John Kerry’s “Reporting for Duty” shtick, and that he didn’t notice the paperwork where Kerry had his middle name changed to “Served in Vietnam”. Heh. Ya know, I’ve really got to get Photoshop cranked up. Got CLOBBERED with traffic from StumbleUpon.com on Friday. Someone apparently found my take on Obama interesting, and clicked on it, resulting in several hundred hits here. Nice when it happens, but I’ll tell you t...

Yet another Honorable Mention at OTB’s Caption Contest It’s time to sign the petition to drill in ANWR. Baloney, James. Why would Hamas be heaping praise on Obama if not for Obama representing and promoting a policy favorable to their goals? The ruling yesterday on the homosexual marriage ban is decidedly not the end of the story, but the beginning. It strikes me that the timing on this is rather interesting, given the proximity to the ramp up to November’s election. Glenn asks some rather pointed questions. Exactly, Mike. On the money. I’d further it by saying his grandfather would do a better job of defending the country… and he’s been dead for how long? There’s one more body to add to the investigation surrounding Eliot Spiter’s misconduct. I may write more on this later, but it strikes me just now that there’s something very dirty at the heart of this… it’s the only thing that would explain this suicide.  Someo...

Look, the Daily Kos is the website of Modern Democrat thought. They represent what passes for thinking in the Democrat party. They are not ‘far left‘ They are Mainstream Democrat. Are we clear on this? Why do I get the feeling that the usual hollywood corwd is going to be disappointed, no matter what happens with Obama? Look, Billy, you of anyone I know should understand that the law… any law… is by it’s very nature arbitrary, and thereby for any law to address the problem of drunk driving some arbitrary standard will be set.  That’s the nature of the government beast.  So, Olberman is now complaining, labeling Bush’s statements on how he doesn’t pay golf now because of the war is ‘ludicrous’? Hey, Baldy; What would you be complaining about if he WAS out on the course? We all know you’d be right on the front lines complaining about how such was a symbol of how he didn’t care about the troops, as if YOU do. S...

Nightly Ramble: What cost? Racist hicks, more
2008-05-14 22:00:00
You’re quite right, Billy, McCain may end up actually winning this thing, but at what cost to the Republicans, in terms of having to make them more like socialist Democrats? And by that same token, what is the level of damage to the country both during and after the election? That’s what I wonder. As Billy mentions, (And David confirms with a link to Sis…) HillBillary rolled West Virginia last night. That win takes on a frightening aspect when one considers what both of the candidates think about people like that which live in that state… and Kenucky…. and Arkansas.  the difference between them; Obama is honest enough to project those negative feelings. It’s amusing, to watch Patrick Healy of the New York Times blame the whole thing on racism, and Obama’s campaign is saying the same… saying the folks in West Virginia are racist hicks. Notice, please; that’s not something that was said said when Obama got something like 99...

Nightly Ramble:Peace, 57 islamic states,Obama=Dukakis, more.
2008-05-13 22:42:00
At some point, someone with some brains is going to show up and figure out that all the candlelight vigils ever held don’t mean squat for stuff like this. And for that matter, stuff like this. And stuff like this, as well. The great lesson to be learned here is some people don’t want peace. And you know what? We’re talking about matters of scale here, when we get to international levels. Iran, for example. An honorable mention at the OTB Caption Contest The New York Times finally got round to admitting Obama was born a Muslim. See how long this took, and how many times they had to get beat over the head with facts before admitting it? James Joyner discusses this here. Note my comments. Michelle reports they’re selling the new 57 state lapel pin. This has me concerned, frankly. I mean, I’d not want anyone to think there was a false patriotism, here. Meanwhile, I note Rush Limbaugh pointing out that there are 57 Islamic states. Hmmmmm… Rush is joki...

Nightly Ramble: The difference, Rummy, racism and the left, The Right wing
2008-05-12 22:09:00
David will undoubtedly get a smile over James Joyner’s first post on Saturday. Men and women are different… who knew? Speaking of James, we had an interesting discussion as regards Rumsfeld, et al, over there, you’ll want to check out. As I said over there, it strikes me that the less than ideal situation that developed in Iraq following the initial invasion was the result of an argument within the Military over which comes higher… Military doctrine, or orders from the civilian leadership. I think that argument gets glossed over in the politically driven rush to blame the civilian leadership. Comments about Henke’s understandably thin-skinned response to MK aside, he’s bang on right with the racism that is at the root of the Democrat party. As I told him, I’ve been saying it for years; The very reason that such as MK can’t seem to recognize their own racism and sexism is that the very root of their political identity is based on group po...

2008-05-09 21:58:00
Yes, Art… I have seen the book as well. I have to tell you and honesty I found a depressing read. The reasons are rather simple; your first problem is that it does in fact make sense. I’m that basis alone it would never fly. Getting the idea? Of course, the second one is of a kind with the first, and it’s the one you list as your personal favorite, the current taxes will longer be used to manipulate and punish the American people for doing various things or not doing various things. Frankly, I don’t care what party they’re in. I suspect that in the end they will not want to give up that power. At least, that would include the crop of Republicans we currently have. By the way, I told Neal this several months ago after the book first came out. by all means go ahead and write them, but don’t expect them to be very conversant. He does get out of the hospital a couple days ago… a knee operation, I believe. I have to tell you that the plan would...

Nightly Ramble:Hillary VP? Burma vs NOLA, more.
2008-05-08 22:07:00
We now hear chatter again about Hillary being offered the VP slot on Obama’s ticket. Not a shock to hear it, I suppose but it still strikes me that Obama would have to be suicidal to make such an offer.  The name Vince Foster leaps to mind. NBC’s been caught with more fake film. This time, Gobal warming, not pickup trucks.  Hey, listen, anything for the cause.  Isn’t that what Al Gore did? Reports have it that help is finally starting on on Burma, from outside agencies. Well, now, let’s see; How long did it take for outside help to get to NOLA? Of course the usual suspects are complaining how our people there were helped first, as Joyner informs us. I tell him, It strikes me that in the aftermath of Katrina, those at the bizzarely named “think progress” were busy blaming BOOOOOSSSSSSCCCHHHH for people not getting help, there, instead of putting the blame for their not getting help squarely on the shoulders of the local and state governments the...

Nightly Ramble: Predicting the unpredictable and reaction to it, more

How does one prepare for the unexpected, which is by definition, unpredictable? Apparently, you don’t. Chuck Simmins makes mention of a WMD course that was less than successful. Sounds rather like a problem with the teacher, to me, but then this is NY state, where idiocy knows no bounds. Saw a hybrid camping trailer, heading out, this morning. Loaded to the gills it was, and by the way it was going, I’d say it was headed for the north country. All I could think of was, maybe if I followed them, they’d keep me.  Been a while since I’ve had a decent vacation. the weekend stuff we’ve been doing for a few years is great but it’s no substitute for taking a week or two and hitting the road. Yes, dear reader, I know I often write the Rambles so you MUST click on the links to see what the subject is. That’s the idea. That said, let’s get to it. Not often in the last cycle did we see the fact that Obama won Guam by only seven votes. I suppose you can guess for yourself why. How sad is it when the outcome of a nomination is still in doubt by the time Guam comes along? How sad is it when one Democrat wins by only 7 votes? A pretty good idea, actually, Billy. But just so you knw, polar bears don’t come that far south, usually. While I have you, Billy, I wonder if you and Karen aren’t each viewing betterment of that publication in opposite directions. IOW, what she would consider better, you’d consider worse. Oh, sure, Billy, I’ve gone out and given more than I thought I had, while doing a show. Even occasionally, a radio show. And you know, it’s not a physical thing, as much as it is a tension and mental strain that drains you so. And I’ve found that’s a good thing. Over the years I found myself eating those tensions like candy, and feeding the energy back into what I was doing. It got toa point there where I got a reputation as a bit of a madman on the hotter jobs. I know what you mean, Bro. It’s good, ain’t it? Oh, by the way, Billy; Visualize Whirled Peas. That snark aside, I dare to suggest to you the elightenment would not have been possible without the cultural framework, and in particular the reverence of each human life that Christianity and it’s values provided. Nightly Ramble: Unfocused lines
2008-05-02 22:02:00
I’m hearing an awful lot of speculation lately, as regards the reaction of the American public were Jeremiah Wright and Barrack Obama white. Certainly the reaction would be different. They’d be ignored. Forgive the observation, but we already have a name for whites who spew anti-white hatred. We call them “liberals”. The American people have learned to ignore such matters as par for the course. Nice to see my old boss,  from the old WVOR/100.5, Bob Bittner, picking up another station, WWBK in Brunswick, Maine. With 1kw on 900, he should have a fairly decent time of it, in that market.  This adds WWBK to WJIB/740 in Boston and WJTO/730 in Bath, ME to his collection. Not exactly flamethrowers, these stations, but between them, my read is he should have good groundwave coverage from just south of Boston to about 50 miles north of Brunswick. Interesting that he should own a station with that call. Back in the day, he and I both worked at another station on 1560...

2008-05-01 22:17:00
Sorry to see Billy isn’t feeling so well. I’t’s shameful I’ve not been to see a Coots gig, but our financial situation is getting a bit better, now,so perhaps I’ll get the time and the money this summer to run down there. And Billy; we agree. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that Democrats only start hollering about partisanship when they’re on the losing end. And the charge of ‘racism’ is a far easier charge to toss around when they’re in that situation, than is ‘partisan’.  It’s also a bigger hammer. But here again, we come to it; This entire deal about Obama vs Rodham, is racism vs sexism, which is in reality all this syscle’s Democrat primary was ever about. Democrats ahve gotten the support of both wings because the two ‘values’ have never been in a serious faceoff before. Well, they are now, and it’s costly for them, and amusing for me. It’s been a while since I’ve done any single issue Nightly Ramble. A couple months, I believe. This won’t be one of them, but… let’s try it this way, just once and see how the format works. A longer subject at the lead, followed by some shorter ones. I just want to see how this looks. I noticed something a couple of days ago that I think labels the Democrat attitude on taxes very well indeed. Gasoline taxes. * I note with interest the continuing argument between the presidential candidates, as regards the question of whether or not we should suspend the federal gasoline tax, for the duration of this high price period. The Democrats, of course, being a tax-and-spend types they are, are totally against the idea of giving the little guy a break on taxes, with prices being so high at the pump. Families are struggling to make it by to keep both gasoline and the tank and food on the table just now. The Democrats, the party of the little guy, supposedly, are...

I suppose that the editor’s political leanings have nothing to do with the lack of readershp that Kurtz mentions yesterday. The Herald’s not alone, of course. Word that the New York Times has lost around 10% of it’s Sunday circulation has crossed my desk here. I suspect the reasons are the same as the Herald’s. A couple of Honorable Mentions in this week’s Caption Contest at OTB. Must be losing my touch. It occurs to me that all these Obama allusions to being a member of the right wing were misspelled. He is of course, more accurately described as a member of the Wright Wing. There are a number of people who think Obama’s message is getting lost in the press. But I’m not so convicned what’s come out in the press isn’t his whole message. After all, Obama has gotten to rock star status. What kin...

Nightly Ramble: Crucifixion,Zimbabwe, our place in the world,New low for BDS
2008-04-28 22:42:00
So Jeremiah Wright is now saying he’s been subject to a public crucifixion. I suppose it’s no shock that we all create God in our own image, but it’s one of the few tines I’ve ever heard of Christ being favorably compared to a racist loudmouthed loser like Wright. I’d like to suggest that Wright is an idiot, except that this nonsense is too clearly calculated. The recounts in Zimbabwe have reconfirmed the opposition victory. Mugabe is bye bye, assuming he actually accepts the verdict of the people. So much for the myth of our standing in the world being damaged by Iraq. Not true, says Mike Green via a report found by McQ. Ah, yes… protesting the war by beating the living crap out of someone in a wheelchair. There’s s special place in hell for such people. So, Amy Winehouse is still looking very much like a train wreck. Big shock, this. Hmmm. Perhaps all that screaming at McCain about growing a spine that we bloggers did is starting to have ...

2008-04-25 22:27:00
Ya know, some folks simply don’t learn from history. “Riots in Denver, the Democrat Convention would see to it that we don’t elect Democrats,” Limbaugh said on yesterday’s’s show-, saying also, that’s the best thing that could happen to the country.  Of course the left is having spasms, saying Limbaugh is calling for riots. Actually, no, Leftards. Pick up a book and learn from your own history.  Given Chicago ‘68, he’s not calling for them, he’s PREDICTING them. And don’t think the police in Denver aren’t thinking along those same lines. There’s a lot of other parallels between this year and ‘68, as I’ve suggested before. A thought occurs: How bad does someone have to be, to lose to a known liar with negatives as near as 50% as no matter, while spending twice as much as she does? Such a candidate is Obama. So abhorrant is he that half the party is giving it’s suport to Hillary Clinto...

Nightly Ramble: Short notes, tonight
2008-04-25 04:07:00
This has been on my radar screen for a while. But that’s where it has stayed. I’ve been frozen by it and haven’t written a word on it. Apparently that is also where it has stayed, if it got that far, for most bloggers and their underlings in the mainstream media, aka journalists. (Yes, I haven’t told you what it is yet because, as simply as it can be stated, the thing is too large to easily grasp.) David Pryce-Jones brings us up to speed about how the European Union, undaunted by the will of the people of individual European nations, will accommodate itself without them: Well, of COURSE, Martin. That was always the point of the thing, and is exactly what the opponents said of the EU, as the various countries were singing over their sovereignty to that Brussels monster. The whole idea was that none of the countries, or the people in them would be able to have their say. I’ve been saying it for as many years as it was being considered and pursued, and loudest when Tony ...

Nightly Ramble:Results and their speed, Snow, Gun free zones, more.
2008-04-23 21:53:00
I was a little more than slightly tounge in cheek when I suggested last night that it would take a week for the primary returns to show up. We’ve seen it take just that long in other cases this cycle, and longer. Given the speed with which the returns popped up last night, the change is remarkable. But you know, I can’t help but wonder if the speed of the returns in the particular states isn’t at least partly a response to an issue of returns coming back fast or slow is not directly related to Hillary Clinton’s looking good as a result of the info being released in a timely fashion, or not. As an example, a close loss, gets mulled over ala Florida 2000, until everyone’s so bored, they’re not paying attention, anymore. Thus her losses are jnot as widely remarked as her victories, say, last night, as an example. I more than grant you, this is speculation. But it would match the HRC we’ve come to know very well… very well, indeed. It&rsq...

2008-04-22 22:11:00
Look, Billy, I’m somewhat sympathetic to the argument, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that they went to this place with the specific goal in mind of pissing off the constabulary. To what end? Don’t tell me about how these morons were on some kind of freedom crusade, because I’m not buying it. Let’s also not lose sight of the fact that it’s pretty much understood that the monument area is pretty much out of bounds past sundown, unless you’ve budgeted for holdup money. That, if nothing else, has to affect the attitude of the local cops. And doesn’t anyone find the concept of self-professed libertarians gathering at the shrine of Jefferson… symbol of the Democrat party, which in it’s turn is the largest enemy of libertarian thought? I mean, granted, I think Jefferson would disown the Democrats given the chance, but there it is… I’m watching this business in Texas… that sect of the Mormons…all ...

Nightly Ramble: Two stories about who takes up your cause, and more.
2008-04-21 22:42:00
Yeah, full moon, tonight. And no, I don’t mean the guy with his butt hanging out the window of the Yugo to your left.  It’s been a weird day, already. Your first clue, Billy, should have been when the two responsible for the bill are two of the more questionable critters Congress has ever produced. there’s a good deal of questions about the integrity of the one, and the sanity of the other, and the usefulness of them both. Perhaps it’s time we get over Mitch Daniels. And perhaps it’s time for him to get over himself? Look, Neal, blaming the Saudis isn’t solving the issue, nor is it even correct. As I said in these spaces the other day, we already have more cude, and more gasoline stockpiled, than we have in the last 15 years. the current situation if NOT, I repeat, NOT being driving by shortage.  That’s the most remarkable thing about this whole gasoline price debacle… it’s not following the laws of supply and demand.  Still, ...

Nightly Ramble: Themes and Schemes, The gray lady and the iceberg, The Pope
2008-04-18 22:33:00
In talking with a few people, I’ve decided that instead of going for an all in one shot theme change, I’m going to try and use the existing framework, and do a slow change over time. Dabble with the colors, and the placement, over a period of weeks. Several reasons, mostly because I don’t need the downtime on the site, and I don’t want to design in a hurry. Took me nearly half a year to get the thing working well when I first set it up, and about a year in total to get it tuned just so. Darned if I want to go through that again, particularly during an election cycle. Speaking of that, the fallout continues from the debate of night before last. Obama, predictably, has started falling, but not as much as his performance would seem to warrant. I make the assumption that the reason is Hillary Clinton’s performance wasn’t any better, despite what crowing I’m seeing from her cheering section. Undecideds are still running around 10%… a huge ...

2008-04-17 22:13:00
Look, gang, right off the bat… any server that goes down under 4000 hits in a few hours isn’t worth much.  Are we clear on this? For those of you complaining about Bush’s Global Warming day speech… Gang, I keep telling you the guy’s not a conservative, but at best a centrist…  and you’ve gotta expect stuff like this from a centrist. Do you believe me now? And yes, I supported him because he was the better choice, given we had to chose from him or Al Gore and  John Kerry.  How good need one be to look better than either of THOSE two? By the way, there’s a lot of stuff about that in the BitsBlog Newsroom. Link is at the top of this page. The Popemobile rolls on.  I’m happy he’s here, if for no other reason than we get to discuss the matter.  I got into it over at OTB, yesterday with James and a few of the regulars. Long time readers of this blog will recognize elements of the discussion. Watch for the reactions, thou...

Nightly Ramble: Flag pin, Gas, More unions, guns to work, more.
2008-04-16 22:43:00
Has anyone noticed? Ace did… Obama’s back to wearing a flag pin. Boy, I could make a whole seperate post on the stuff we have on file from when this subject first came up. So does Ben Smith. My take is he’s trying to repair the damage done by what’s leaked out of his true nature. Sorry, Senator, I’m not buying it.  we remember what you said: “You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin,” Obama said. “Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest. So is it a substitute now, Senator? Given what else you’ve shown us about how far out of touch you are with most americans, is this pin’s return you trying to make out like you’re one of us? again, No sale, Senator. Boortz makes my point for...

Nightly Ramble: Tax day, Geoff Davis,Delta and Northwest, the costs of high
2008-04-15 22:36:00
April 15th. Tax day. It occurrs to me as I watch the mail delivery guy in his jeep dropping off more bills for me to pay, that the tax bill may be due today, but by some estimates we don’t actually get the amounts of money spent on taxes, paid each year, until sometime in late May or early June.  Also occurrs to me that I’d better steer clear of the main post fofice, tonight. There’s invariably a traffic jam around the place on tax day… late filers. Regarding Rep. Geoff Davis… No question that the guy is a bit of a jerk, but he’s no racist, whatever the racial ambulance chasers have to say about it. And in reality that’s what’s going on here… It’s not racism, but what the responses are, though, is opportunism. More than granted the guy shouldn’t have said it. But WHY?  nt because he’s a racist… he isn’t. Not even close. The problem is the opportunistic reaction  to it. And I guess frankly, I...

Nightly Ramble: Paul Harvey,Obama’s Bitterness, Iraq and more
2008-04-14 22:44:00
Scott Fybush over at NERW reports: *Former MASSACHUSETTS governor Mitt Romney guest-hosted the Paul Harvey show on Thursday, the latest in a line of personalities helping out with the show in the absence of the ailing Harvey, who’s now 89. NERW hears that Romney hosted the show from the studios of former Harvey affiliate WBZ (1030 Boston); his guest-host stint wasn’t actually heard in Boston, where nobody’s carrying Harvey now that WTTT (1150) has flipped to Spanish-language religion. That’s Odd; I thought he was on 1030/WBZ. I nkow they had ‘Rest of the Story” on during the 7 oclock hour, but WBZ’s been a little hard to get around here of late, with Bob Savage’s WYSL/1040 ripping up BZ’s sidebands… (and BZ, by the way, returning the favor, after Bob goes to night pattern…particularly with that damn digital hash) Course, with all the shuffling over there in Boston, who knows, anymore? Speaking of Harvey…. Ya...

Nightly Ramble: It’s Torture, I tell ya… Double standards,Clin
2008-04-11 21:57:00
That’s OK, Jon. Tell ya what; Greenwald can claim I’m pro-torture, if he likes… because under some conditions I am. .. and for all the moralizing that’s been thrown at the issue, nobody’s ever come up with an even remotely lucid reason against it that can be used under all conditions, thereby negating the blanket ban on it that some, including yourself,  have called for… and particularly under the post 9/11conditions and arguments originally presented.  But somehow, I figure Meagan will hold her own. Greenwald has some smarts, but refuses to use them. That’s a malady Meagan doesn’t share.  As an example, take his statement that people “who advocate aggressive wars, such as the invasion of Iraq, are responsible for what naturally follows.” I say it’s people like Greenwald… the ‘capitulation at any cost’ crowd, who refuse to defend our country with every tool to hand, are responsible for the bl...

Nightly Ramble: Perky, All that from one Olympic Torch? Hyrbids and the Bli
2008-04-10 22:39:00
Look, I for one could care less about The Perky One, unless she wants to appear on ‘The Nude News”…(Just so I can see how far that perkiness extends, mind) But this bit with her and CBS was doomed from the start as I told you here, two years ago. The issue with CBS news is not now, nor has it ever been, the personality in the big chair. The big issue now is how far left the place leans. We hear she’s considering taking over for Larry “Ask the question” King leaves. As to the degree of Couric’s involvement with the furthering of that leftist image of CBS, let me just say this: A stint on King, where the illusion of bias is less damaging and thereby less important, will expose that bias, removing whatever doubt there may have been on the subject. Why is a group of people involved in a sect, using a temple for sex with young girls a bad thing, and Bill Clinton using the Oval office for sex with young girls NOT a bad thing? There may be good reason to ground all those MD-8...

“If there is a mystery at the heart of Barack Obama’s “Dreams From My Father”, one thing is not left a mystery, the fact that Barack Obama organized his life on the ideals given to him by his Kenyan father. Obama tells us, ‘All of my life, I carried a single image of my father, one that I .. tried to take as my own.’ (p. 220) And what was that image? It was ‘the father of my dreams, the man in my mother’s stories, full of high-blown ideals ..’ (p. 278) What is more, Obama tells us that, ‘It was into my father’s image .. that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself.’ And also that, ‘I did feel that there was something to prove .. to my father’ in his efforts at political organizing. (p. 230)” Greg Ransom is digging up {ahem} “legacy”. Go read it all and be shocked… shocked, to discover the commies in the closet. Nor should you be, Billy….but you know, it ...

2008-04-08 22:08:00
Is there life in Ipse Dixit? It’s moving for the first time in recent memory, and was noticed by a feed I apparently didn’t remember to turn off, years ago. Ah, yes, the typical ploy… if you can’t convince them with logic, you can always Re-educate them. I see Robert Mugabe demanding a recount in Zimbabwe ala Al Gore. Did anyone really think he’d go quietly? No, John, more’s the pity; They do not understand why it’s wrong, and never have. Wherein lies the breakdown of the family that they decry publicly, but will not lift a finger to fix. I did speak to this point some time ago, you know. Here, too. I wonder how long until this one no longer has a job? I don’t know what scare me more; that we actually have people in the country who think this way, or that they vote. The only enemies this woman has, she’s made herself… and so identified, she’s going to find them harder to deal with. Clearly, the woman has issues to b...

I can’t let this touching post of McQ’s slide off into oblivion in Google somewhere, without commenting on it. The guys involved with this project would modestly tell you it’s all part of being a soldier. They’d be right in that, of course, but it makes what they did no less special.I’ve seen people… and one person in particular I’m thinking of just now, who knew they didn’t have long to live… and wondered, what would they do with that time, if they had the choice. In the case of the person I’m thinking of, she didn’t alter her activity all that much, really. She loved her life as it was, and lived to nearly 20. She had those years behind her… that maturity… to better understand what was happening to her, and deal with it. I remain impressed by her to this day, decades later.But….I can’t imagine, in my wildest nightmares, what goes though the minds of kids this age, though. And that these ...

2008-04-04 22:16:00
I tend to agree, Billy, (In fact I think you’re getting soft in your dotage) but the sad truth is that in that cesspool, he’ll likely find a band of supporters. Not only is he dumping n the military, but there’s an even smaller number… say around 10% who will support him no matter what he does. We’ve had this conversation before. Oh, by the way, as to your crack about the ‘burbs… Well, I’ve always figured anything south of about Nedrow to be the Burbs…(Chuckle) 40 degrees and rain. Yecch. I’m now officially tired of freezing my @$$ off. Did you notice that I Tunes is now the biggest music retailer on the planet?I don’t like I-tunes myself, for different reasos than the RIAA, but I do consider this vindication for anyone who considers the RIAA to be complete greedy fools, who are singularly responsible for making the transition to digital music much harder than it needed to be. A look at the mess in Texas over the D...

Nightly Ramble: (c)Rap, New Wordpress, Big Beaver, more
2008-04-03 22:32:00
McQ notes this report which finally catches on to the obvious… Rap music has increasingly glamorized the use of illegal drugs, portraying marijuana, crack and cocaine as symbols of wealth and status, according to a new study by the journal Addiction Research & Theory. and says How screwed up is this world when rap stars are “role models for the nation’s youth”? Well, it’s not like this is anything new, or even newsworthy, frankly. Of course back in the day when I was making this point, and pointing to the deleterious effects of it, and pointing a finger at who it was responsible for it, I got tossed off a few sites for doing so. Of course back then, the message wasn’t a very popular one. Still isn’t, really. But it seems we’re finally catching on. We upgraded Wordpress to 2.5 last night. One of the things I noted was a little instability in the Tiny MCE editor extension, so I shut it off. Turns out, they added the functionality of the...

2008-04-02 22:24:00
I see Presdient Bush is bypassing a lot of laws and regulations to get the southern fence built. Bravo, Presdient Bush, …..on two levels; 1: the fence is actually going to be built. 2: most of these regulations are revealed by this bypassing process as being a roadblock to progess, and to more than just the government…. it’s just that government gets to bypass its own rules when the need arises. We’re costing ourselves with over-regulation.  Is there anyone who doesn’t understand this one? Reynolds says: WHAT IS IT WITH ALL THE HOOKERS IN AMERICAN POLITICS lately? At least Bill Clinton was getting it for free. Yeah, but look what he ended UP with, OK? Of course, one of you is bound to point out just what it was he was running away from. Before you do, yeah,  I’d have to say that’s true, and I wouldn’t dream in my worst nightmare about hitting either one of ‘em. Bruce notes the same meme and notes it’s not limited to U...
