Nightly Ramble:JAF Edition
2009-06-05 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the JAF Edition. (Just Another Friday) Unemployment is up: To the shock of nobody, unemployment is up. This morning’s commerce Dept figures show unemployment at 9.4%. That’s the highest it’s been in over 25 years. Hope and change, you know. At some point, Obama’s not going to be able to blame Bush anymore. The American people have already started to see that the massive spending on the ’stimulus’ didn’t work. The myth of big government spending being the panacea is broken at last. And when the pain starts showing up, they’re going to know who to blame. I take no celebration in that statement. I merely observe. Merkel knows what’s what:  On waking, this morning, I was greeted by the specticle of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, under a full scale schmooze assault from Obama.  It’s not working. It was h...

Nightly Ramble:The Railroad Station Edition
2009-06-01 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BigsBlog Nightly Ramble. This is the Railroad Station Edition. A political shooting you won’t hear about: Jonah Godberg points out an incident I’d not heard of,and I’ll bet most of you haven’t either. Fox News:  DEVELOPING: A gunman opened fire Monday at an army recruitment center in Little Rock, Ark., killing one army recruiter and seriously wounding another, FOX16.com reported. A man in a black SUV drove to the recruitment office and began shooting at around 10:19 a.m., a spokesman with the Little Rock police department told FOX News. The suspect, who immediately fled the scene, was later apprehended approximately four miles from the center with an assault rifle in his vehicle. Little Rock authorities detected a “suspicious device” inside the vehicle and called a bomb squad to the scene, according to FOX16.com.  Now, I’ve already commented ...

Nightly Ramble: The Crossing Edition
2009-05-29 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere; The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble. This is the Crossing Edition. Yes, we’ll hold you up for a few minutes, but at least you’ll have something interesting to look at. Temp Check: John Hawkins has one of his polls up, this time it’s the Rightosphere Temperature Check For May, 2009 An interesting read that pretty much confirms what I’ve been saying about the matters John asks about. Those dirty rich: Fabius Maximus has an interesting writeup today on HIS vision of Reforming America. It’s interesting, that the vision he proclaims is vastly different from than words of The Chosen One. ™ He identifies something that I’ve spoken of here before: Unfortunately, the class that has led America — and done so well during our first two centuries — appears to have lost interest in the project.  They prefer to skim the profits off the top, and hope the ship drifts along in the...

Nightly Ramble: Big Airliner Edition
2009-04-28 22:02:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble. This is the “Big Airliner” Edition AF One flies over NYC, Obama crashes: Rumors about the BitsBlog jet being the one circling Southern Manhattan aside, we’re told that Air Force One was being flown over NYC for a photo op. Just taking their word for this, for the moment, (Always a dangerous proposition) I can’t wait to see what the photos get used to promote, can you? I mean, can you imagine how successful those photos will be for  promoting anything? And forgive me that I find annoying the FAA was hiding behind it’s regulations… supposedly wouldn’t tell us what was what on a cloud of secrecy. There’s something about this that smells of arrogance of the first order.  In other words, Obama. Can’t wait to see his approval numbers in NYC now… What about photoshop? OK, look, I can fully understand why Obama would want foota...

Nightly Ramble: LightHouse Edition
2009-04-27 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the LightHouse Edition Mother’s day alert:  First of all, let’s take time out for this important message: You do know Mother’s day is this coming Sunday, right? Yeah. You’re welcome. Fur Flying: Lots of fur flying from my Pajamas Media piece posted earlier today, and that’s pretty much as I expected. I suspect I may have snarked the comment stream into silence, though, earlier today. We’ll see. Better than you: But there’s more in the way of indirect linkage to the points I made in that bit than I ever imagined. Take for example Mark Steyn, who points up in a post at The Corner today: My old editor, Charles Moore, has a piece in the London Telegraph on the 30th anniversary of Mrs Thatcher’s arrival in Downing Street. Very pertinent, as Britain regresses to the basket-case Seventies. But this passage, I think, ha...

Nightly Ramble:The Garden Store Edition
2009-04-24 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere: The ever more popular BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Garden Store Edition When government rises, true charity falls: This blog has pointed out for years, that when taxes go up, ostensibly to support social services programs, actually charity giving suffers.  So it is no shock to find that the immediate effect of Obama’s enforced ‘volunteering’ for teens is that Youth volunteering is falling for first time since 9/11… Liar, Liar: No shock, either, to find that Nancy Pelosi is lying through her teeth about not being briefed on water boarding.  I’d like to see her under oath on this stuff, but with Democrats in charge, it ain’t gonna happen. ZZZZZZ: Well,, perhaps she was asleep, like Obama’s Financial advisor, Larry Summers, yesterday.   I wonder if she’ll cop to that, though, You Dirty Rattner:  Kaus is still chasing the bit with Rattner. Nightly Ramble: The “Well, Blow Me Down” Edition
2009-04-23 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the very more popular, always talked about, never equaled most intense nightly read on the sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble. This is the The “Well, blow me down” edition. Oops… I forgot: Turns out it was ‘Bring your behavioral problem to work‘ day. I got a reminder on arrival at work, this morning, of course. If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute: The weather around here is screwy. Snow flurries last night. Tomorrow, and the day after, they’re predicting 80 degrees. Welcome to my world. Harman: Oddly, David Frum confirms my read of the Harman case. This smells a CYA operation of the first order.  Harman’s an idiot, but one gets the decided impression someone’s using her as a scapegoat. We’re watching. So is Ed at HotAir, who has a different angle.   I agree with Ed, here, but this still smells to me of projection. Touching: Ann Coulter’s mom died last week. I hadn’t h...

Nightly Ramble: The “Keep It Under Your Hat” Edition
2009-04-22 22:03:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the “Keep it under your hat” edition. Earth day: Ah, yes… we’ve not heard much about Earth Day, this year, have we? Certainly not as much as we have in previous years.  It is today, you know. I  suppose it not being front and center is due to two situations: First, Democrats are in charge, and to call attention to the plight of Gaia as OwlGore is wont to do, would only show the electorate that the Democrats really aren’t doing all that much about ’saving the earth’ either.  Secondly, even the Enviro-whackjobs are started to see that the whole thing was a scam from the get go. They’re not quite ready to let go of their anti-human paranoia, but neither are they willing to continue making fools of themselves, either. Me? I’m celebrating Earth day by toddling down to the gas station,  and filling up my...

Nightly Ramble: The Billboard Edition
2009-04-21 22:02:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The world famous, ever more popular BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Billboard Edition. For a small percentage: So, Obama’s making lots of hay out of a call to save $100 Million? God bless Jake Tapper. Surber seems to agree. As I mentioned in Last Night’s Ramble, Obama and his people never bother to mention in terms of percent of the budget. Here’s why: The total savings amounts to (ready?) 0.00027% of the budget.  Tell you what; courtesy of The Heritage Foundation, let’s put this supposed cut in perspective:  And should I mention the Democrats in Congress are already annoyed at having even that much less to spend? To answer Gibbs, let’s out it this way: Only in Washington, and only among the Democrat party can the federal budget balloon by record amounts, while Democrats try to credit themselves for cutting the budget.  Starting to understand what a croc...

Nightly Ramble: Ten Tons O’ Stuff Edition
2009-04-20 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere … The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble. This is the Ten Tons o’ Stuff edition It’s all indicative: How is it President Water Walker has no problem releasing interrigation memos, but won’t release his birth certificate? It’s called “Reality”.  Look into it. And no, regarding those memos, I really don’t care about what’s being reported as tourture, because it isn’t torture, any more than being forced to listen to Barry Manilow covering AC/DC.   There’s a lot in the way of frantic sounding appeals to the high moral ground on this, all sounding like a ‘UNICEF’ PSA.  All nonsense, of course.   But look, even if it were torture…. and again I say…. even if it were, consider what happens to your moral and legal high ground if you don’t survive?  What happens is your enemy gets to choose what is moral and legal, wha...

Wecome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere… where the typos are always free. The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Friday Fish Fry Edition. (Chuckle) Insty notes Micheal Graham: MICHAEL GRAHAM: Janet Napolitano was right. There were hatemongers at the Tea Party rallies on Tax Day. They called themselves “reporters.” Remember when journalists sneered at those dumb bloggers with their obvious biases and potty-mouth approach? . . . . Yep. What you guys fail to connect with however, is the idea that anyone who agrees with the leftist dominated Dinosaur media, cannot possibly be biased in their eyes, because they think themselves unbiased. No amount of pointing to biased behavior like what we saw the other day, will convince them that THEY… The Dinosaur Media… are in fact the PROBLEM. All of this is nothing new, of course.. It’s just that when the power shifted in Washtington, the bias of the Dinosaurs was much harder to hide un...

Nightly Ramble: The “Day After” Edition
2009-04-16 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nigtly read anywhere on the sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble This is the “Day After” edition. So many things went on yesterday, I can’t begin to discuss them all. An eventful day, to be sure. A day when the leftists infesting our government were served notice that the right will not be silent, anymore. Stand up! Across our nation conservatives stood up in numbers heretofore unimagined unreported, and unseen.  Estimates from a few places I’ve seen are 3,500 in Hartford, CT.  9,000 in liberal infested Madison, WI, another  2500 in Jacksonville,  2,500 in Boise, ID. 5,000 in Sacramento, CA, 16000 in Atlanta. 4000 in Lansing. New York had between 15,000 and 20,000. Of course the Dinosaurs are downplaying these numbers, lowballing them by quite a bit. Apparently, they’re trying to compensate for overplaying the numbers at the so-called ‘million man march’, or else are showing the same mat...

Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Route 66 edition Why is it caled ‘Good Friday’? Ken Collins does a fair job with that question. God’s still here:  And why is it that the left and the press (There’s that echo again) are so busy trying to get us to think that God is dead? Seems every Easter, one major rag or another coughs this one up.  They’ve been doing it since the middle 60’s. Prostelitizing for atheism, is the simple answer, but I suspect, myself it’s simpler than that… It’s about killing what they cannot control.  I’ll point you at KJL’s fine article, today. Pirates on the Horn of Africa are flourishing because we’re letting them . In many ways, this situation is analogous to Jimmy Carter’s failures in Iran.  One does really have to wonder what would have occurred had the Crew of the Maresk Alaba...

Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble This is the Free Beer Edition. Take a Bow: Apparently the lesson is still not learned, that it’s not the mistake, it’s the coverup. If nothing else, this confirms what we on the right have been saying for years now about Obama’s inherrent dishonesty. David extends these comments. Oh, let ‘em all come…   Seems Obama will introduce legislation including “a path for illegal immigrants to become legal” this year. In short, he’s looking to push amnesty, again. the rumbling I’m hearing just now suggests that the votes aren’t there for it in Congress, though, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. Right Wing News has an interesting interview up on this just now. Taxes and their effects:  So, after weeks of talk of rasing taxes on the producers of this country, particularly coming from Gracie Mans...

Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere: The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble Springtime in Western NY This is the snowstorm edition. The picture to your right is one of our fair city as (not) seen by a skycam run by a local TV station. The ray dome was covered in snow this morning. So, try to picture the downtown skyline, in your mind.  Irony abounds, the cam is positioned on top of the local association for the blind. We had 50 degrees here a couple days back. The trees were budding, the early flowers were up.  A common question around work this monring was “So, how was your summer?”  Drivers around here, meanwhile, never seem to change. Give them a break from the snow and when it comes back, they forget how to flippin’ drive. OK, I’ve lived with it all my life, but it still annoys me. Did you hope things would change? Seems to have slipped the notice of the press, but apparently Obama’s been defending wiretapping.   Not...

Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere…. The BigsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the State Park edition Newspapers: Billy, personally I’m sympathetic to these sentiments, as I think most Americans are… particularly the ones who have a bloody clue what’s going on. The only problem with a bad company going out of business is that the company behind them is likely to be worse. I suppose the New York Timesto be no exception.  I personally think the nail in therir coffin will be either the mid-term elections, or the general. Their bias will be revealed once again, and will in the end so disgust people that they’ll sink below viability in terms of subscribers, and advertisers. Sometimes, when I start talking, I just ramble until I run out of words.
2009-04-06 17:03:00
I am, right now, the sole breadwinner for a our family. That is, Middle and The Boy both work, but they work at the kind of jobs where the primary benefit is not so much the pay as it is the ability to bring home free bagels for me -- something that happens all-too-rarely, if you ask me.But I take my responsibilities as the income earner in our family seriously. I get up and make it to work on time, mostly, at least two or three days per week, and I spend upwards of 25% of my time at the office not surfing the Internet, all to bring home enough money to make sure that when the coffeemaker breaks down, we can take a jaunty trip out to Wal-Mart and get a new one, and throw in a Hershey's Bar for Mr F and Mr Bunches to split on the way home.I'd hate to think that if something happened to me, Sweetie's ability to replace coffee makers (and toilet seats, and couch cushions) at will, with a bonus candy bar thrown in, would be hampered, and I'd hate to think that she and the kids would...
Nightly Ramble: The Bumpersticker Edition

Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the Bumper Sticker Edition. It’s Society’s fault: It strikes me that this is emblematic for the excuse making that liberals make in world affairs, too. Working class dog? Speaking of excuse making, I note word on the wire that  Michael Vick’s lawyer is telling the courts he has a job in Construction lined up. Yeah, right.  Let me know if you see pictures of him actually working, OK?  Links would be nice. It’s a matter of what you believe: Rich Lowry says Obama’s faith that his fresh attitude — more flexible and thoughtful — will in itself open new international vistas is unshaken.  It’s also mistaken, of course. Goddard, it aint: We’ll likely see NORK launch that missle tommorrow from all indications.  And from all accounts, the Administation instead of responding correctly, will do some finger shaking.  I lo...

Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere; BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble This is the “Jet Airliner” edition.Since Al Gore has decreed ‘Jets are bad’, in spite of having at least one of his own, I’ve decided to get one for the Bloggers here at BitsBlog and our friends in the blogging world.   And here it is. It seats 25, has a built in hot tub, a bar, a full entertainment center,  3 workstations with Full Internet connectivity, of course,(For blogging in flight)  as well as parking for two Hummers on the lower level, for the posse once we arrive.  Great for those last minute worldly Rambles. There is other news than GM, of course, and here’s some of it: Lights Out: Speaking of Al Gore, I see that energy consuming arena he calls a house wasn’t darkened properly for ‘Earth Hour”.  The people in Nashville have started chatting about that one. Olberman still a loser: Glenn Reynolds notes that Glenn Beck is outdrawing Keith Overbite. Like, this is a surprise? Rove in 2010?: I’ve been watching Karl Rove quite closely the last several weeks. I started once I started noticing he was quite a bit more visable than any of the other Bush White House alums. I’ve long since started to wonder if he’s going to be a player in the 2010 election. He clearly will be a large voice for the mid-terms.  Anyone who rattles the left that badly while being the nice guy that he invariably is, has to be worth something. He’s a little too centrist for my taste politically, but… Trouble in Doggie Land: Word on the wire is that Dylan Ratigan has quit over at CNBC.  Apparently this has been brewing for a while. Nightly Ramble: More Pizza Edition

Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere…;The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble This is the “More Pizza” edition. I feel like Pizza for some reason, tonight. Sping, perhaps. What is rich?  Megan says: …that the definition of “very rich” seems increasingly to be set at “just above the level a top-notch journalist in a two-earner couple could be expected to pull down”…. No. the more universal method of determining “Rich” is someone who makes dollar one more than the speaker does. That said, however, let’s face this one: all this smoke and fury on wealth envy is actually driven by those interested in making government bigger, and more powerful.  The Peasants are revolting: Among other places, in Kansas and Connecticut.  I keep hearing about how Obama turned down a Meet the Depressed stint because he thought David Gregory wasn’t enough of a challange. Yeah, right. Oh, more than granted, Grego...

2009-03-19 21:03:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere; The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble  When reality strikes: It has become startlingly clear that there’s a major difference between candidate Obama and President Obama… as I have always insisted there would be.  References to this today come from all over, notably James Joyner, Byron York,  and the AP.     Clearly, the now axiomatic point that all of Obama’s promses come with an experation date, is being reinforced daily.  What’s that line? I want to take a second to officially anounce I am a Duke fan, again. And I couldn’t even care less about March Madness. Indeed, I’m constantly amused with the idea that anyone is. Never could get into college sports. The cause: Here it comes, America… a UN levied tax on oil.  “green new deal’ they call it. Now, think; Obama is now saying his cap and trade thing would end up costing us about three times w...

This is the first result. And yeah, I’ve used it before. But I’m working on another one, which brought this to mind.   The party’s over: Looks like Obamas approval ratings are falling fast.  The article doesn’t except well, so I’ll ask you to simply Go and RTWT.  Oh, and on that point, it’s nice to see Megan McArdle finally recognizing  reality on Obama. I called that one, too. Jen Rubin has a great piece on this today, as well. Remember I said that the administration was using the crisis to push an agenda they’d have pushed anyway? They’d better hurry. Maybe it’s the people: The Obama nominess are dropping like flies. I’m not even keeping up with them in the blog anymore. ...

Yes, indeed, this object to the right is the genuine article, the Bits Ballcap, the subject of a multitude of tippage, as I salute or thank one being or another. Always nice to have a picture of what I’m talking about. When I say BBCT, from now on, you know what I’m talking about… it’s a Bits Ballcap Tip.  How much he Madoff with? It was mildly interesting, and more than a litle bizzare, to watch Fox and Freinds doing live coverage of Bernie Madoff’s trip to the court in southern Manhattan, to plead in his case.Bizzare, because first, I very seldom get a street level view of the place anymore.  No, seriously. Nightly Ramble:The “Boy Am I Looking Forward to Spring”edition
2009-03-06 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere… The Bigsblog Nightly Ramble This is the “Boy am I looking forward to spring” edition. It’s getting warmer around here. It started this morning above 50 degrees, and there’s a smell of spring in the air. In just a few weeks, now, I’ll be bringing our camper home from storage and setting it up for the season.  I’ll admit to having a decent case of cabin fever going. The law student speaks: Go and read this from Boortz. Did you read it? Good. My reaction: The letter he posts makes a great deal of sense, but ignores the point that we’re already physically seperated to a larger degree than many want to acknowledge.  Take a look at the foreclosure rates, and the unemployment rates. Where those rates are the highest is where leftists dominate. Think anyone will notice? When even his supporters see it: Glenn says today: Paul Krugman says Obama’s killing the Do...

Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere; Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble This is the “Would you buy a used car from this Blog?” edition.  Rmemeber, no down payment and 72 years to pay. Our first offering this afternoon is a brand new offering from Jennifer Ruben at Commentary. I’ve said repeatedly that I’m a fan of hers, and this kind of stuff is why. Eli Lake reports that Chas Freeman is indeed to be investigated by the Inspector General. At issue are his ties the to China National Offshore Oil Corp, in which the Chinese government has a majority stake, and his role as president of the Middle East Policy Council (MEPC), which is in part Saudi-funded. And not surprisingly, the backpedaling has already begun: Mr. Freeman has not submitted the financial disclosure forms required of all candidates for senior public positions, according to the general counsel’s office of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Glenn mentions today: HEY, WASN’T HE CALLING WASHINGTONIANS SNOW-WIMPS JUST THE OTHER DAY? Barack Obama cancels press conference with Gordon Brown “because of snow”. Yeah, well, remember why Brown came here; He was here to remind Obama his call for protectionism isn’t very popular in the UK and elsewhere. Welcome, one and all to the most INTENSE nightly read on the sphere… Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble This is the Roadside Cafe edition. Death Wish 17: Is it just me, or does the name of Charles Bronson sound odd in this context? Great speech: If you missed Rush’s speech at CPAC  on Saturday, you’ll want to knock an and a half hour out of your schedule. You can view it here. Keep it real: Rich Lowry has a firm grip on the obvious. That’s less snarky than it sounds. I like Rich.. and so few in the media DO in fact understand reality, that one who does is increasingly important. Good Day: You will recall I ran a bit of a statement here on Saturday night about Paul Harvey. The left is now reacting to his death with all the class and charm of an impacted wisdom tooth. In other words, about usual. NERW: In mentioning Paul Harvey’s passing, over the weekend, I leaned heavily on Scott Fybush’s Northeast Radio Watch.  As well I might; Scott’s lik...

Follow On: I guess I ought to start here:  Billy, I should have mentioned in my argument last night, that I think your reading of the SOLO crowd to be dead nuts on. My only point in the discussion of the last few days is what I see as a misidentification of the problem we both see. I should also point out, while I have you,  that I found your post on finding who ended up with your LPC  quite touching. Yes, really:  Oh, comon, Billy… that’s an easy one. The Constitution calls out a design involving limits on governmental power. So what we’re talking about, here, is the principle that government needs to at minimum be limited, with it’s powers both enumerated and limited in nature;  The princiiples on which the traditional American philosophy is based… the one that teaches th...

Nightly Ramble:The Gone with the Wind Edition
2009-02-12 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense Nightly Read anywhere on the ’sphere…Bitsblog&r-squo;s Nightly Ramble This is the “Gone with the Wind” edition. As I was driving into work this morning, I was getting reports from all over Ohio that they’d had lots of win, and power outs, trees and wires down, schools closing and so on. Wind started up our way around 10-10:30. Snow with it. Over at Pajamas Media, Tom Blumer points up that Obama and the Democrats are responsible for much of the pain we’re in, just now… even when history is ignored: .In his Saturday address that followed this news, President Barack Obama was correct in pointing out that 3.6 million jobs have been lost since the recession, at least as “defined” by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), began. The recession, as normal people define it (”a decline in gross domestic product [GDP] for two or more consecutive quarters”), began in the third quarter of 2008 a...

Nightly Ramble: The Target Rich Environment Edition
2009-02-11 22:03:00
Welcome to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere: Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble Once again, we at Bitsbog are presented with a target -rich environment. Let’s get some of it. IN THE BEGINNING, THERE WAS THE PLAN: So, Geithner’s plan was revealed yesterday, and the response from the markets was less than enthusiastic, to say the very least.  The market tanked bigtime before he was even done speaking. Clearly, they saw disaster in their future, given Geithner’s plan. I’ve been watching the market for a lotta years and I’ve never seen that depth of  negative response before.  This is the indispensable man? The Financial Times gets into why  the investers don’t like it. So does USNews.  But while they do a good job at listing why this thing is a failure, in terms of specifics, I suspect this is something most people know on an instinctive level, without such specifics. See, here’s the thing; The issue here is to my mind more basi...

Nightly Ramble: The Stimulating Edition
2009-02-09 22:01:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere… Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble An interesting weekend, and lots on the horizon to discuss. Let’s get it. PROKULUS: Obama is scheduled to beg and plead for his Porkulus bill tonight. He’ll lay out all kinds of doomsday scenarios, and basically, be playing the politics of fear, as I described the other day.  And Class Envy as well. He’s scheduled to show up on your TV at 8pm eastern. THE POLITICS OF FEAR: Fear, and something else, as well. Remember when Obama used to complain, bitterly about people ‘questioning his patriotism’? Funny how when questions ours,  it’s OK.  Whatever happened to his call for ‘bipartisanship’? -Dissent, apparently, is no longer patriotic. Did I call this one, or what? Over at Pajamas Media,  Victor Hanson notes the tendency of Obama and his people to engage in hyperbolic arguments, and says it’s hurting them. He’s rig...

Nightly Ramble: The Crossing Edition
2009-02-06 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere. Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble. It is jolly well amazing to me that Obama should be resorting to the politics of fear so quickly.  There’s a simple reason that he is resorting to this tactic at this time; He’s losing.  He’s about ready to lose the first big legislative push of his administration.  Not a very impressive start. His approval ratings have been dropping markedly since his coronation inauguration, and not surprisingly, he;’s looking like he’s  starting to feel the whole thing slip away from him.  Less than three weeks into is administration, and already the stench of desperation is overpowering.  Oh, hopey changitude. Charles Krauthammer adds his own comments, here. Interestingly, even the congressional budget office is saying that TARP is a load of crap. remember my friends that the congressional budget office is the group of people that always lea...

Nightly Ramble:The Deep Frozen Edition
2009-02-05 22:04:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the sphere; The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble. Coming to you today, direct from the frozen tundra of western NY, the very heart of the chruch of Global warming. This Global Warming nonsense continues to get more comical.  The Buffalo News, just down the road, here, reports a global warming conference gathered inthe Queen City, today, in -6 degree temps. How much denial can the global warming scammers deal out? Stay tuned; I have a feeling we’ve not seen it’s zenith, yet. So AP thinks their image of Obama was infringed on to make all those Hopey Changitude Posters?  I tell ya… it’s hard to know who to cheer against, here. Surber tosses in a stink bombs.  I’ve about run out of patience with AP, but this business at least has a quality of entertainment about it. Salon’s staff seems to be having some questions about The Chosen One. So do the voters, apparently. Support for Obama’s &lsquo...

Nightly Ramble: The “under the Bus” Edition
2009-02-04 22:03:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere… The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble This is the “Under The Bus” edition. What about the rest? With all the activity on Obama’s appointees and taxes, it shouldn’t shock anyone that some news agencies are actually looking more closely at things, which in turn results in more calls for resignation of the other dirty players. Geithner, for one. Natiional Review: Daschle’s negligence was gross, particularly for a party and an administration that have celebrated prostration before the taxman as a “patriotic duty.” But Daschle’s offenses, galling as they may be, are exceeded by those of Geithner. Indeed, of all the tax transgressions touching Obama’s circle, Geithner’s are the worst. Not only did Geithner neglect to pay his taxes, he turned a buck by doing so—accepting payments from his employer for the very purpose of offsetting those taxes. When he took the money, he signed a...

Nightly Ramble: The Tourist Trap Edition
2009-02-03 22:02:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere; The Bitsblog Nightly Ramble As usual, there’s lots going on, most of it both predictable and avoidable. Let’s get to it. Cutting the Military? The only sizeable cuts in spending Any Democrat has applied, in recent memory, have been to the Military. No shock then that Obama’s following suit.   Max Boot thinks this is a stupid thing to do… and I think Max has it right, even leaving aside the idea that spending on things Military would be as a stimulus far more effective than anything in the Bill Obama’s pushing for. Bailout perspective: Let me put some perspective on the bailout. Even at the levels of $825BUSD currently proposed,  that comes to $17,000 US for every household in the country.  Want to stimulate the economy? Simply give every taxpayer in the country that $17,000 by not collecting it in taxes.  In the end, it’d work better to get the economy mov...

Nightly Ramble: The Burrowing Edition
2009-02-02 22:01:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… Bit’sBlog’s Nightly Ramble  There’s a lot to discuss, today, and here’s some of it, in order of importance: The Punxsutawney Prognosticator Predicts Plowable Piles (6 More Weeks) Yeah, it’s groundhog day. The day when a rodent with all the intellect of an ant and the vision of Mr. Magoo, reportedly managed to see his shadow this morning  with the supposed help of around 20,000 cheering yahoos,  most of who couldn’t see the critter at all, not to mention the help of around 50,000 watts of Kleig lighting strewn about the stage.  Under those conditions, I wouldn’t expect the shadows created by the sun to be anything but a non-issue.  I also keep expecting Al Gore to come out of that little box. His predictions of weather are based on the same science, after all. Besides….If Al Gore was a woodchuck, would that make him a cannibal? No Globa...

Nightly Ramble: Pizza, Anyone?
2009-01-30 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble Quite a bit going on, today. Let’s get to it. And while we’re at it, let’s try something new with the formatics of these Rambles: PIGS: You guys keep screaming that you want more evidence of this ’stimulus’ package being pure pork. Here’s one more they don’t say much about. The Washington Times… the only real paper inside the loop, in my view… is reporting thatthe bill as passed by the house provides 2.25 billion for the National Parks Service.  First of all, I’m a little skeptical that this has anything to do with our economy.  This is stuff that should ahve gone through the usual appropriations process. That it did not and instead gets stuck in a ‘we gotta do something in a hurry’ bill, is bad enough on it’s face. But go deeper. Turns out the head lobby type for the National Pa...

Nightly Ramble: The Day After the Storm, the Nonsense Continues
2009-01-29 22:04:00
Welcome one and all, to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere; Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble Yes, we’re still trying to shovel out from under the snow, but we’ll carry on with a little wishful thinking. Forgive me, but I tend to dream about getting the camper hooked up and running to the outdoors. Usuualy a few thousand miles away. So…. Ok, anyway, lots going on. Let’s get some of it in. So, if you have an ‘unpopular’ name, you’re more likely to commit crimes?  Hmmm. Let’s see, here. Maybe we’re dealing with the culture behind the kind of name one gets, hmmm?  I mean, just blaming the name seems superficial. The New York Times has an interesting report online last night: WASHINGTON —(New York Times)- The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. O...

Nightly Ramble: Day One
2009-01-20 22:02:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’sphere… Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble Since I’ve already given you my thoughts on today’s events, before they even occurred, it’s down to some random tidbits. Today marks the end of being able to blame those Waskilwy Wepublicans for the problems the Democrats face. Going forward, they’ve nobody to blame but themselves. I suspect they’ll find the mantle an uncomfortable fit. If there’s a bight spot in Obama, it’s one that’s getting under-reported. I found this one in The Hill, (and I see Boortz has linked it as well…) Government can only do so much … And if we’re just waiting around for somebody else to do it for us, if we’re waiting around for somebody else to clean up the vacant lot or waiting for somebody else to get involved in tutoring a child, if we’re waiting for somebody else to do something, it never gets done. Heh. Nice...

Nightly Ramble: The Monday Before the Storm
2009-01-19 22:01:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble Lots going on, today, despite it being a holiday. Let’s get to it. It’s about time you did this, Mr. President.  Only one thing I want to know… why the delay? Fred Dickeris reporting that Caroline Kennedy is the odds on fave for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat, according to what he’s hearing.   OK, Rumor mill and all that, but still… Dicker is usually reliable in the extreme, and Patterson strikes me as just dumb enough, and enough of a party loylaist to  make such a singularly stupid appointment,  so I’m inclined to take this report at face value.  Do the Democrats really think there’s not going to be a negative reaction at the polls in a couple years? I think they’ll be suprised. This has to be the longest Glenn Reynolds post I’ve seen in a year. He usually does this around the point in tim...

Nightly Ramble: Frozen Friday
2009-01-16 22:05:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’shpere. Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble A busy Friday. Let’s get to it. According to what I’ve seen, O’Hare recorded 20 below zero, this morning.  Here in Western NY,  it got to around 5 above. A bit lower across the I86 corridor, and north along I81 and I87. Over at PJM, Mary Madigan writes about protests in NYC that I thought that if I took out my camera, a person who was apparently trained in community relations would express some interest in politely explaining police actions to the community. As you can see in this video, that’s not what he did. When I asked a few questions about freedom of assembly, he pushed my hand and the camera away and told me to stop recording. One organizer from the Silent Majority, who is also affiliated with Gathering of Eagles, said that the police seemed to be harassing pro-Israel and pro-America folks lately. She believed that these pro-Palestinian rallies wer...

Nightly Ramble:Frozen
2009-01-15 22:04:00
Welcome, one and all to the Flash Frozen edition of the most intense nightly read on the ‘Sphere: Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble The brass monkeys are circling the door with signs in their hands, protesting us, and screaming in their now high pitched voices.  Gotta type to keep from freezing.  It’s about 12 in Hotlanta, tonight and  it’s 9 degrees here, -1 in Chigcao,  which means the worst of our cold here is yet to come; we usually get Chicago’s storms, second hand. Damn global warming anyway. Chicago, particularly is saying it’s the coldest there in a decade.  Wait a sec; Aren’t sunspot cycles 11 years long?  Don’t tell our government. Ignoring the sun and it’s role in our environment,  they’re still about blaming you and I for a problem that doesn’t exist. Maybe I oughta throw Al Gore to the Monkeys, and Henry Waxman with them. That doofus is still telling everyone he’s about pushing global warming legi...

Nightly Ramble: COLDER
2009-01-14 17:03:00
Welcome one and all, to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble. (Editor’s note: Due to a screwup on my part, this post went up before it was suppsoed to.) We started off a little below zero outside Casa deBit, this morning. The kind of morning where you keep the brass monkeys inside for their own safety. The rest of the day wasn’t much better; 10 to 15 degrees. Let’s look about this frozen tundra. Timothy Geithner is still all over the news, this morning as well he might be, given the revelation of his tax misdeeds, particularlyin relationship to his role as the guy who has to sign off on what the IRS does.  Obama’’s people are in scramble mode, trying to save this one.  We’re told he did his own taxes. We’re forced by this to conclude he’s either an incompetent, or a crook. (More likely, both.)  ZHowever that question falls out, he’s not fit for the position Oba...

Nightly Ramble: COLD!
2009-01-13 22:02:00
Welcome, my frozen brothers and sisters, to the most intense nightly read in all the sphere: Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble More of that global warming stuff, today. Several inches of it, I hear… and the first batch is already falling. The expected cold snap is going to be longer than they were originally calling for. Now, we’re loking at TWO nights of below zero temps.  Oh, joy, rapture. Oh, well, let’s get to it. Glenn notes the proposal that’s been floating around about an income tax holiday surring the economy better than any other single action the government might take, by quoting Megan McCardle. One of her commenters mentions the showstopper for that proposal: The main problem with a payroll tax holiday is that it minimizes Congressional opportunities for graft and larding out goodies to their contributors. That makes it both wise and politically unfeasible, at least until we get a better class of congresscritter. Remember what I said about teachab...

Nightly Ramble: All This And a Cookie, Too
2009-01-12 22:01:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble Another Monday. (Shrug). Let’s go… Oil’s down below $39 /BBL as of this morning;  It may be lower now, I’ve not looked in a  few hours, but it probably is. That price spike we saw last week? A memory, nothing more. I note Reynolds reccomending the Canon Powershot SD770 for $159, and I concur. Hell of a deal, that. The A590 is a great deal, too. As for how long they last… I have an Powershot A95 that I’ve beaten up for years now, and had no real problems with. I’ve been adding accessories to that particular camera off of E-Bay over the years, and it’s proven to be well worth it.  Matter of fact, that’s a fairly decent way to get into electronic photography , is to get a 95, or maybe even a 65 off Ebay  or somewhere… and get yourself some accessories with it. There’s a number of them under...

Nightly Ramble: We’re Screwed.
2009-01-09 22:05:00
Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere… BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble Disgusted, would be the word of the day. Grab your ankles, America, here it comes. Yestrday’s Obama speech. What can one say about it? (Remembering this is supposedly a mainstream venue, which blows away whatI’d like to say about it at the off.)  It was clearly a message to those of you who still hold onto the outdated, quaint and , yes, racist notions of common sense, and thereby haven’t gotten the message yet:  Big government is back, and in a big way. We’re going to spend out way to prosperity… but we can only do that, if we spend as directed by government. Ignore the concept that spending as directed by government is exactly what landed us in this soup pot in the first place, when they tried to alter housing priaces by waving a governmental magic wand. The speech of course was, as is Obama’s wont, long on panic creati...

Nightly Ramble: Snowjobs
2009-01-08 22:04:00
Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the ’sphere: BitsBlog’s Nightly Ramble. Lots of snow up here the last couple days… and most of it coming from Washington, DC. Let’s have at it. Over at US News, James Pethokoukis says he thinks Obama will “Own” this resession. Now today’s Obamacrats are apparently going to try and Hooverize President Bush in an effort to shield themselves from the potential political fallout of a prolonged recession. It will take years to fix the American economy, Obama says, and years of trillion-dollar budget deficits to do it. And everyday it seems that Team Obama tries to lower economic expectations, such as bearishly predicting that unemployment would hit double-digits.The not-so-subtle message in the middle of all these pessimistic prognostications: When ya’ll go to vote in 2010 and 2012 and a) unemployment is still as high as it’s been in decades, b) income growth is sluggi...
