Giants Sign Randy Johnson
2008-12-31 00:00:00 I know it happened a few days ago, I was just waiting for another move to follow which is why I'm just now getting around to posting about it. I'm sure everyone who cares knows by now that Randy Johnson signed a 1 year, 8 million dollar deal with the Giants. I fully support this move as the pitching staff was a little overrated before this move (Outside of Cain and Lincecum, you didn't really know what you were going to get) but adding RJ into the mix for a year is a great move. He can still pitch obviously, as evident of his 2.41 era, and 8-5 record over the second half of last season. Put that together with the fact that he's now coming to pitch at a legitimate pitchers park for the first time in his career and we could see The Unit find a fountain of youth here. While he should be a fine pitcher here, he will be a great sounding board for the young power pitchers, and should be a solid overall team leader. Now, I'm not saying RJ's add is the one that puts the Giants over t...
Baseball Notebook: 300 Wins for Randy Johnson in 2008?
2008-06-04 17:38:00 It is looking less likely that Randy Johnson (4-2) will reach the 300 win plateau this season since he has made ten starts, yet has only won four of those starts with two losses and and four no decisions. Three of his four wins have been against teams with losing records: Detroit, San Diego, and

2008-03-16 02:38:00 Randy Johnson was back on the mound, and this time it didn’t feel like “extended batting practice.” Johnson, who missed most of the 2007 season with a herniated disc in his back that required offseason surgery, worked three innings in his second spring start and allowed only a solo homer to Gary Matthews Jr. Read the ...

Randy Johnson Rocked In Return
2008-03-11 07:29:00 In his return to the diamond from back surgery, Randy Johnson did not perform well. The 44-year allowed 3 runs on four hits in less than two innings of work. The good news was that Johnson claimed to be pain-free, but there are clearly other issues that have to be resolved. Last season, Johnson did offer some promise in his ten starts before injury set in. In 56.2 innings of work, he struck...

D'Backs Still Searching For A Starter
2007-12-07 23:25:00 The D'Backs' loss of Livan Hernandez should become official today when he declines their offer of arbitration. That leaves the team with a rotation of Brandon Webb, Randy Johnson, Doug Davis, and Micah Owings. The Big Unit is a question mark, so a starter must be acquired. Back on November 15th, Nick Piecoro noted the team's interest in Matt Clement and Bartolo Colon. But the Diamondbacks are sticking to their no bonuses/no escalator clauses mandate. So that pair will probably look elsewhere. Hiroki Kuroda received a three-year offer and a pitch video featuring Randy Johnson. He'll visit Arizona next week. If he chooses Seattle, L.A., or Kansas City, the D'Backs will have to move on. It's rumored that the Ms added a fourth year to their offer. The big name is Dan Haren. Jack Magruder says Arizona's proposal included two of Carlos Gonzalez, Emilio Bonifacio, and Brett Anderson. Magruder believes the A's are also seeking Ma...

MLB Rumors: Miguel Cabrera, Pirates, White Sox, Randy Johnson
2007-11-29 18:59:00 Mike DiGiovanna reports Angels owner Arte Moreno had two trades for Miguel Cabrera nixed when the Marlins backed out. Moreno also says the Marlins have been dealing the same way with the Dodgers. As an aside, DiGiovanna has again reiterated that the Angels do not want to deal 3B Brandon Wood. This leads me to beleive he will be given the opportunity to be a contributor in 2008 at either 3B or SS depending on the resolution of the Cabrera issues. Clark Spencer gets a quote from Marlins' president of baseball operations, Larry Beinfest, on the statements by Angels' owner Arte Moreno that the Marlins have gotten cold feet twice in agreed-upon trades for Miguel Cabrera. In typical denial-equals-guilt fashion, Beinfest said, ``We do not comment on trades or trade rumors.'' If this is how the Marlins demonstrate their professionalism, then expect there to be a change in the front office barring an elevation to big-market status by the Marlins. A team that must always...

2007-07-28 04:48:00 Barry Bonds hit career home run #754 tonight, leaving him 1 homer shy of tying the record. This topic has been beat to death by the media. The game is still in progress and if Bonds is to tie the record I will immediately let everyone know.As far as big named pitchers go, Randy Johnson is going to have season ending back surgery. The surgery is going to be a major operation that is going to take a lot of time to heal. Johnson said, "I have no intention at this time of retiring" Why not? What let does he have to prove in his career? He is going to go down as one of the best pitchers in the history of the game. He has won the major titles in his professional career. Go home Randy and enjoy the day you get accepted into the Hall of Fame.http://img68.imageshack.us-/my.php?image=amerlegendslogo5w-j.gif

2007-05-09 22:28:00 A cut (or lack there of) above the rest (Part 1)Expressing yourself with your hair style is not a new concept. For years, people have decided that the best way to make their statements, however right or wrong, was their hairstyle. Recently however, I've slowly begun to realize a growing trend (no pun intended...wait, no scratch that, pun fully intended) in sports of athletes letting their hair style go with reckless abandonment. Lets take a look at some of the bigger offenders:Ben Wallace In what can only be cited as a tribute to the afro's of yesteryear, Ben's got the look working for him. Now, at times, he'll switch it up to this lovely do:Not as intimidating, but these cornrows would make Snoop Dogg proud (on a side note, how many videos must Snoop D-O-double G make that show a random woman braiding his hair as he raps? You like cornrows Snoop, we get it) With that being said, if you're gonna steal a hair style from Snoop, better the cornrows than this train wreck!Anyway, I ...

Randy Johnson Trade Dissected
2007-04-20 21:37:00 Steve Gilbert of MLB.com gets an inside look at the Randy Johnson trade. Originally, it was going to be a three-team deal where a mystery AL club would send a first baseman to the Yankees. Perhaps it was Richie Sexson on the Mariners? Johnson should make his season debut Tuesday against the Padres, Arizona's main competition in acquiring him this winter.

Randy Johnson Set To Be Traded???
2007-01-03 08:03:02 According to Peter Abraham of the Journal News, the deal between the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks could be picking up majoring steam as the Diamondbacks have reportedly asked for a 72 hour negotiating window with Johnson. The D’backs want to settle his contract status for 2008 and also work on the $40 million dollars in deferred money the D’backs already owe him from his previous stint in Arizona. This deal could be great for Johnson because he lives about 14 miles from the ballpark. Also, he never seemed to really fit into the New York market especially with the media hounding his every move. It remains to be seen what else New York will be giving the Diamondbacks. We can only wait til this becomes official to find out. This brings up an interesting question. What does this do to the availability of Rogers Clemens? Rumors are Randy Johnson and him never got along. So were the Yankees getting rid of Johnson as a good faith move to show Clemens they were inte...
