2007-10-26 16:12:00 DN meddelar att militÀren i Rangoon idag omringat flera av Burmas största pagoder (tempel) som finns i staden. Enligt DN ska detta vara en ÄtgÀrd för att förhindra att upproret bland munkarna blossar upp igen.Mina spontana kommentarer pÄ detta Àr som följer:Det hÀr visar eventuellt vad samtalen mellan Daw Aung San Suu Kyi och juntan egentligen tjÀnar för syfte. Se till att det Àr lugnt och fint, putsa ytan, tills vÀrlden helt glömt Burma igen.Det kan ocksÄ tyda pÄ att stÀmningen i Rangoon inte Àr i det "normallÀge" (media har kallat det normalt men situationen i Burma Àr aldrig normal) som mÄnga trott. Kanske bubblar det fortfarande. 2007-09-29 05:38:00 The best outcome we could hope for in Burma would probably be if the soldiers were won over. That would be in keeping with the peaceful Buddhist ideals. Whether or not this is a real possibility has been debated by many others far more knowledgeable than me, but the reality is nobody knows. However, if this is true, it looks promising:Reports from Rangoon suggest soldiers are mutinying. It is unclear the numbers involved. Reports cite heavy shooting in the former Burmese capital.The organisation Helfen ohne Grenzen (Help without Frontiers) is reporting that "Soldiers from the 66th LID (Light Infantry Divison) have turned their weapons against other government troops and possibly police in North Okkalappa township in Rangoon and are defending the protesters. At present unsure how many soldiers involved." Stir in drained crabmeat, add garlic powder. Place a round teaspoonful on won-ton skin and wrap like an egg roll. Seal edge with beaten egg white. Deep fry until golden, and serve hot!Crab Rangoon #21/2 lb fresh crab,1 drained and chopped8 oz cream cheese,1 room temperature1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce1/4 teaspoon garlic salt3 doz wonton wrappers3 cup cooking oilCombine crab, cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic salt; mix until well combined. We went at this time to avoid the heat, and also because the elephants rest after 11 a. m. The illustration will show the processs, but it was an amusing sight to see five pnderous animals moving slowly along, propelling the logs with their trunks, and ever and anon trumpeting; not being versed in elephant expression, I was left in doubt as to whether the sound meant joy or sorrow. 2007-05-13 15:48:00 The feelings that Burma shares with visitors run unusually deepThe old, brown-robed monk in a conical peaked cap gently nudged me to the left, two steps, and there it was, in a brilliant white flash: the 4,351 diamonds at the topmost orb of the Shwedagon stupa.Only a few tourist and locals were at the temple this late. Some places diminish in stature when you take away the crowds, but this site, one of Burma's holiest, becomes even more impressive.On a prominent hill overlooking Rangoon, the temple complex dominates the city. In the 1400s Queen Shinsawbu donated her weight in gold to the temple. It was beaten into leaf to gild the first stupa, and the layering of gilt continues today - there are now 53 tonnes of gold covering the structure.At mid-afternoon the spiritual reverence had been palpable.
