2008-04-22 20:38:00

Rumor: Chuck Liddell To Face Rashad Evans
Bisping To Make Middleweight Debut In March
2007-12-20 22:03:00
Earlier this week, the UFC's Thomas Gerbasi announced that TUF 3 winner Michael Bisping would be dropping to his natural weight class following a less than stellar effort against Matt Hamill and a split decision loss to Rashad Evans.UFC's Middleweight class is well known for being the least deep while controlled by the sport's most dominant champion. These contrasting truths make this an interesting decision on Bisping's part. On one hand, he will most likely be considered a Top 5 fighter in the division whereas among the 205 pounders, he wasn't among the Top 10. On the other hand, once he climbs the short ladder to a title shot, he'll have his ass handed to him by the most dominant UFC champion since Chuck Liddell.Bisping elaborated on the move: ?Even though I?ve never fought at middleweight, I?ve gone back and forth with the decision to go down pretty much my whole career.  Even from my very first pro fight (April 2004), people were telling me that I was a little too smal...
Rashad Evans and Michael Bisping Post UFC 78 Interview Video
2007-11-21 13:54:00
Rashad Evans and Michael Bisping comment on their UFC 78 main event fight. Rashad states that Bisping was tough as hell and that their fight was one of Bisping’s best fights ever. Evans states that he didn’t preform as well as he wanted to. Bisping responded that he wants to get back to fighting ASAP. He agrees that he made a few mistakes and should have pushed the fight a bit more. Bisping also responds to how he was booed by the Newark NJ crowd and how that would not happen in England.
UFC 78 Validation Results - Rashad Evans vs Michael Bisping Who Won?
2007-11-18 16:58:00
Don’t laugh, we went to UFC 78 Validation last night at the new Prudential Center in Newark NJ. In another post, I’ll talk a bit about the atmosphere, the celebrities who showed up, the madness around the arena, but for now, here are the results of last night’s fights. Akihiro Gono defeated Tamdan McCrory in the Second Round with an Armbar Marcus Aurelio defeated Luke Caudillo with a TKO like a total badass in Round One. Joe Lauzon finished Jason Reinhardt like nothing in Round One with a rear naked choke. In a controversial ending Thiago Alves defeats Chris Lytle via doctor stoppage in Round Two - The fans were completely pissed off continuous “booing”. Frankie Edgar who received a ton of New Jersey support (he’s from Toms River New Jersey) dominated Spencer Fisher and won via an unanimous decision. Ed Herman defeated Joe Doerksen with a sick Knockout in Round Three.  Joe was hurt pretty good and needed assistance out of the octagon. Karo...
Rashad Evans Looks Forward To Bisping Clash - 01 Nov 2007 01:33:51am
2007-11-01 02:33:00
By Mick Bower Rashad Evans is expecting fireworks when he fights Michael Bisping at UFC 78: Validation. Although he expects the Briton to improve on his last performance, Evans is confident of victory. Evans told the Daily Star he is not underestimating Bisping: ?The minute you start thinking along those lines you end up getting your ass kicked. If I go in there thinking Bisping didn?t look great in his last fight, or hasn?t reached my level, I will end up waking up in the dressing room asking people how come I got beat.? In his last fight, Michael Bisping beat Matt Hamill at UFC 75: Champion vs Champion in London. Although he won on points, many observers thought that Hamill had done enough to get the decision. Evans told the Daily Star that this controversy could work in the favour of his opponent. ?I think the criticism will actually fire him up to give the performance of his life. Bisping underestimated Hamill. Because Matt Hamill is known as a wrestler, Michael must have ...
Rashad Evans' Road to 78 ? Week One - 31 Oct 2007 12:45:08pm
2007-10-31 13:45:00
By Rashad Evans We?re less than a month away from UFC 78, and things are heating up here in the gym in Albuquerque as I get ready for my fight with Michael Bisping on November 17th. Bisping?s a tough opponent coming off a tough fight with Matt Hamill where he left a lot of questions out there for his fans and for himself, so I know he?s gonna come out in this fight and try to make a statement. I?m coming off a tough fight myself with Tito Ortiz, and whenever you leave it in the judges? hands, and make it close enough to be that kind of decision where it?s not one-sided, you leave room for error and you?ve got to take some of that responsibility on yourself. You really can?t be like ?I did this,? or ?I did that?. You really can?t make a case for yourself because if you really did as much as you believe you did, there would be no question in anybody?s mind. (Continue Reading)
UFC 78 Bisping vs Evans: Early Betting Odds
2007-10-26 00:47:00
Rashad Evans: Best Odds -275 at BookmakerMicheal Bisping: Best Odds +250 at BetUSWell right off the bat I've notice many comments on forums etc (myself included) that this card is lacking in "star power". But, don't mistake that comment for meaning that I'm think the card is weak. The headline fight between Micheal Bisping and Rashad Evans is a more exciting match up that the original Evans - Ortiz. The styles of these two fighters should provide for a very active fight. Honestly anything would be better than what we saw from these two in their last bouts. In betting terms the bookmakers seem to be putting much more weight on Bisping's last showing than Rashad's. Both were tentative and slow to initiate their game plans and not up to their expectations. Unfortunately for Bisping his win was probably due to poor judging and left a bad taste in many mouths. My initial take on this fight has been that Rashad has the advantage in size, wrestling, and it seems close in the standup. On...
UFC 78 Winner of Rashad Evans vs Michael Bisping Gets a Title Shot Against
2007-10-20 15:38:00
According to Gareth Davies of the UK Telegraph, it appears as if the winner of the Michael Bisping vs Rashad Evans UFC 78 main event will get an opportunity for a light-heavyweight title shot against Quinton Rampage Jackson.  According to the Telegraph, “Dana White, the UFC President, says that the winner will gain an automatic world light-heavweight title shot. Bisping believes it is the chance of a lifetime.”.  At UFC 78, both fighters will put their undefeated records of 15 wins and no losses on the line and fight for an opportunity for the gold.  Bisping states, “Rashad’s the toughest opponent of my career, no doubt, and he seems to get better and better with each fight. But I want to test myself against the best fighters in the world and I think I’ve got the tools to beat Rashad in what I am sure will be a war.”  Expect a brawl folks.
Ortiz And Henderson Not Official; Tito To Wait Till 08
2007-10-11 19:51:00
Despite having his expected rematch taken away from him, Tito Ortiz has not been booked in a match with Dan Henderson, contradictory to a TAGG Radio report from earlier this week. It appears the The Huntington Beach Bad Boy will wait until 2008 to fight again.Contract troubles are the culprit again in preventing fans around the world from watching Ortiz lose (or tie) once more. The best fight for Ortiz would have been a rematch with Evans, which he would've had a legitimate shot of winning. When the contract couldn't get done, Ortiz was bumped to Henderson, a match which he would clearly lose. When Ortiz finally fights again in 2008, one of two things can happen. It is possible that Ortiz would get stuck with Hendo, Wanderlei, or a myriad of other guys who would humiliate him. Or, he might get an opponent he can beat, but the fans will be so disinterested in his persona and generally boring fights that he'll be relegated to mid-card status. Either way, Ortiz is headedtowards...
Round Robin Leaves Hamill In The Dust
2007-10-10 07:32:00
With Michael Bisping booked against Tito Ortiz's expect opponent (Rashad Evans), and Ortiz being put up against Dan Henderson, Matt Hamill has been left out to dry, with no opponent and no rematch against the man whom he beat.Apparently, Dana White and Joe Silva are making a conscious effort to let the past be the past and have since booked Bisping and Evans in a match up of TUF winners. The winner will most likely get the UFC "future stamp of approval," setting them up to be the unofficial #2 or #3 contender.Rather than bother Ortiz with another fight against Evans, he'll face Dan Henderson, which will either resurrect his career...or end it. Similar to Liddell's potential bout with Silva, this is a chance for the two vets to put up or shut up. And for Hendo (and Silva) it's a chance to prove they belong in the world's premier fighting organization.Meanwhile, the man who actually won a fight in the last three months (something Bisping, Evans, and Ortiz can't say) is stuck ...
Around The Horn
2007-10-08 06:40:00
Match booking was the name of the game this weekend, as some blockbusters (and equally spectacular surprises) were made official.FOXSports has the Nogueira-Kongo bout, first scheduled to take place at UFC 79, now happening in "early 2008," according to Dave Meltzer. This fantastic match (and potential #1 contender fight) should be one of the bigger wars we've seen in years. It features one of the true veterans of the sport against the HWs newest star. I know it seems as though the division has a new star every week (Gabriel who?), but Kongo is LEGIT.Matt Hammil is "in shock" (read: furious) with the Evans-Bisping booking at UFC 78. I can't really understand it either, considering that Rashad Evans-Tito Ortiz and Michael Bisping-Matt Hammil were probably the two most unresolved bouts of the year, but Joe Silva knows what he's doing. In my most disappointing moment of the weekend, the Kimbo-Tank fight, to be held at Cage Fury 6, has been canceled. I don't know quite what to ma...
Rashad Evans to fight Michael Bisping at UFC 78!
2007-10-04 04:34:00
It was just announced that Rashad Evans will NOT be fighting Tito Ortiz as many expected. However, he will be fighting Michael Bisping, who is coming off of a very controversial win, at UFC 78. Read here to see how this affects the card. This was a huge surprise to all people (including myself), not to mention Rashad. It will be the first time that two Ultimate Fighter winners will fight each other. This boosts up the UFC 78 card a great amount.Right as Sherdoggers started complaining about the lack of exciting fights on the UFC 78 card, Dana sets this fight. This is a GREAT move in my opinion, because while doing this, Dana sets up a Tito vs. Henderson fight.BOOM. UFC 78 would then have two great headliners, plus a Karo fight. This isn't even mentioning the great under card fights that UFC 78 will contain. This is a wonderful decision by Dana.Being a fan of "The Count", I have to give this one to Bisping. Due to Bisping having a lot to prove to everyone after his controversial "win...

UFC 73: What's Next?
2007-07-09 06:56:00
In my last post, UFC 73: Quick Results, I didn't really get into the details of what happened at the event, why certain outcomes were noteworthy, and where the UFC and its fighters go from here. I didn't do any of that. But I'll do it now.Who does Sean Sherk fight next?A little-known 155 pounder named Masson Liang. Just kidding...actually, I don't know who he's going to fight. Since the Lightweight division is relatively new and unfilled, who is to take the takedown master on while all the Welterweights cut pounds? I don't really need to see a rematch with Florian and Penn seems to be more interested in fighting up a class. BJ is no longer the svelte Hawaiian who took out Caol Uno in 11 seconds. Maybe Nick Diaz or Sports Illustrated cover boy Roger Huerta? It's possible, but there's nothing currently in the works. With 9 events in between Sherk's last two bouts, don't expect a title defense before the New Year. What happens in Silva-Franklin II?The same damn thing....
UFC 73: Silva, Sherk Retain Titles
2007-07-08 17:35:00
UFC 73 Stacked certainly had its ups and downs. Labeled "best card in the history of combat sports," it failed to deliver what most fans anticipated so greatly and failed to fulfill the hype that was built around it.The event took place Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California and had been regarded as UFC's most "stacked" card to date, no pun intended. The cards featured two title fights, one with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and the other with lightweight champion Sean Sherk, both crowned at UFC 64. Last night, they defended their titles against former King of Pancrase Nathan Marquardt and former WEC champion Hermes Franca, respectively. Former PRIDE Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, also seen by many to be the #2 HW in the world, made his UFC debut against Heath Herring, whom he had already defeated twice before in PRIDE. UFC 73 also featured a light heavyweight showdown between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz an...
UFC 73: Ortiz-Evans Preview!
2007-07-06 19:42:00
Just thinking of the Ortiz-Evans fight gets my blood going. Fresh up and coming talent vs. relatively old talent, Ortiz gets to step in the shoes of Ken Shamrock for this one. You have Rashad Evans, the younger, perhaps hungrier, fighter of the two holding an unblemished record of (10-0), stepping in the ring with the Huntington Beach Bad Boy himself, Tito Ortiz (15-5).Tito Ortiz recently stirred up some controversy with UFC President Dana White. Ortiz and White were set to participate in a boxing match, but Tito Ortiz bailed last minute and the fight never went down, but that didn?t stop SpikeTV from airing a special on the whole situation. The "Bad Blood" SpikeTV special, allegedly filmed to document the preparation behind the boxing match, but instead was twisted into a thirty-minute Tito Ortiz bashing session. White took advantage of this special dropping some F-bombs here and there and bitched and moaned about how he trained vigorously, blah, blah, blah. All in all, both Dana ...
UFC 73 Betting Odds and Smart Bets
2007-07-01 08:42:00
The big juicy card we've all been waiting for is finally just around the corner. The odds have moved around quite a bit but they appear to be settling in. The main line to keep an eye on is Franca's, it looks good now but could definitely get better.Desert Dog?s Smart Bets for UFC 73:Main Card Bouts:Anderson Silva -160 (Bet $100 to win $62.50) BetUSAntonio Nogueira -500 No ActionRashad Evans +120 (Bet $100 win $120) SportsBookHermes Franca +225 (Bet $100 win $225) BookmakerKenny Florian -310 No Action (Bet on Alvin if line hits +400)Preliminary Bouts:Chris Lytle - 400 No ActionFrankie Edgar -240 No ActionJorge Gurgel -285 No ActionStephan Bonnar -300 (Bet $100 win $33.33) SportsBookAs always, if you are going to bet, only play with what you are willing to lose. The best value on this card is Hermes Franca at +225. Rashad is a good bet at +115 or better and Bonnar is a solid chalk bet at -300 or better. I would seriously consider a dog bet on Alvin Robinson if his odds hit +400, he...
UFC 73 Early Betting Odds
2007-06-26 07:38:00
UFC 73 Stacked betting odds have for 3 of the main card fights (right side of page) have been out for almost two months now and with all other events out of the way the public eyes are now focusing on the July card. All three of these main event fights are very tight matchups which are close to 50/50 in true probabilities. However, current belt holders and fan favorites tend to become overvalued especially during early betting. If you're looking to shop for odds on a few of the dogs now is the time.....These are not necessarily my predictions, just pointing the current value on the dogs.I'll discuss the specifics of the matchups in more detail later this week, but for now I'm just going to point out where the best returns are.Hermes Franca odds recently moved to +225 at Bookmaker.com. I would say that this is one of the best values on the card. The trend looks like it could get as good as +250, but it's worth catching it here if this is a bet you want to take.Nate Marquardt's od...
Tito Ortiz Expects Self To Beat Evans, Face Shogun
2007-06-10 20:58:00
In a series of statements made by former UFC Light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz concerning events which both have not occurred and have not been scheduled, Ortiz has predicted a win over Rashad Evans and scheduled himself against PRIDE-crossover Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. And by "predict," I mean build hype using hyperbole which then makes him look like an idiot when he loses the fight. I call it "The Tito Ortiz Method." Other aspects of the Ortiz method include claiming to be "in the best shape of my life" before every fight in addition to claiming that "I'm completely prepared." Weeks before his last fight with Liddell, Ortiz was taking shots left and right at The Iceman, calling him soft and weak (even though Liddell had knocked him out previously at UFC 47). We all know what happened after that -- Ortiz had to eat his words again. This time, his words exactly: ?I am really pumped on caving Rashads face in? more focused than I have ever been I think. He really has no idea wh...
Wikipedia: MMA Fighter Rashad Evans
2007-06-09 07:52:00
Check this guy out, he could be the next mixed martial arts star fighter. He won The Ultimate Fighter heavyweight season and is undefeated as a heavyweight fighter, but is headed to the more high-profile light heavyweight division, where he should thrive. His next UFC fight is July 7, 2007 against former Light Heavyweight Champ Tito ...
Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans Scuffle at UFC 69
2007-04-09 02:37:00
The feud that Josh Koscheck and Diego Sanchez brought into last night’s UFC 69 event could soon have a match at UFC 73, thanks to main-card combatants Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans. The two light-heavyweight contenders, who meet on the Vegas fight card on July 7, had to be broken apart at last night’s festivities, according to a variety of eyewitnesses, including a couple UFCjunkie.com roving reporters who were on the scene. No punches were thrown, and the encounter consisted of little more than some yelling and chest-thumping. The two fighers were separated from the ringside encounter before anything especially newsworthy happened. Ortiz was at UFC 69 primarily as support for his Team Punishment fighters who were on the card — his protege and The Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight winner, Kendall Grove, for example. Evans was likely on hand to catch a few fellow Team Jackson members, including Sanchez and Roger Garcia. Although there’s no extensive history of bad blood between O...
