Dollar gains traction as Fed says it might raise interest rate
2008-05-07 15:51:00 However Gains in the dollar may be limited by speculation that an industry report today will show the housing slump in the U.S is slowing the economy downThe dollar gained against the euro as the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Thomas Hoenig said ``serious'' inflation pressures may spur the central bank to raise interest rates. Some traders are looking at Hoenig's comments with interest and have decided to push the dollar up. ``This is a very hawkish tone that highlights the Fed's concern that inflation may get out of hand,'' According to Hiroshi Yoshida, a foreign-exchange trader in Tokyo at Shinkin Central Bank, Japan's sixth-largest lender. The dollar climbed to $1.5487 against the euro as of 7:33 a.m. GMT, from $1.5532 in New York yesterday, when it fell to $1.5594, the lowest level since May 1. The U.S. currency also rose to 104.97 yen from 104.77 yen. The euro fell to 162.51 yen from 162.71. The dollar may advance to $1.5420 per euro today, Yoshida forecas...
Personal Loans UK ? meet requirements through low rate loans
2008-05-06 16:32:00 By Peter Taylor If you are in need of money for personal purposes then in the UK you can always avail a personal loan. The UK residents can take personal loans for almost any purpose like home improvements, buying a brand new car, consolidating debts, going to an expensive holiday tour or for wedding. The UK borrowers have the option of taking personal loans in secured or unsecured forms as suits to their requirements and personal circumstances. Secured personal loans are usually best for greater borrowings. This is because you take secured loans against your home or any valuable property. So you can borrow an amount that goes up to value of your home. But the biggest advantage and attraction of secured personal loans in the UK is its lower interest rate, which makes the loan easier to repay. And for those who have a clean record of repaying past loans in time, secured personal loans come at even further reduced rate. Another advantage is that secured personal loans can be repa...

In total, 86 per cent said they were at least ’satisfied’ with the services provided by the government, while about a third said the services were ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’. This was the consensus of a group of 60 Singaporeans who took part in a focus group discussion organised by management consulting firm Accenture last August. The research findings - which will be made public later today - showed Singapore coming in second, only behind Sydney, in terms of how its citizens perceive the quality of the city they live in. Big Brown Wins Kentucky Derby: Are You Winning That Rate Shopping Game?
2008-05-04 17:01:00 Many thought Richard Dutrow, Jr. was, dare I say, egotistical since he was saying this week that his horse, Big Brown, would win the Kentucky Derby. Many thought he was overconfident and that the odds would prove that since they were against "inexperienced" horses.Nevertheless, Big Brown did pull off the win. So, what does that have to do with mortgages and rate shopping in particular? Let's compare races. Many Americans, if not most, have gotten caught up in the race to get the best deal on a mortgage . As they run that race, the furious contact lenders, fill out online forms, or whatever else focusing only on getting the lowest rate and fees. The problem is that the odds are against them, even more so than an inexperienced horse, as Big Brown was, winning the Kentucky Derby.Mike Mueller put out a good post yesterday that highlights some of the pitfalls associated with the rate shopping race. All too often, mortgage borrowers whom fa...
Affordable Auto Insurance Rate - Don’t Let Your Home Ruin It
2008-05-04 09:52:00 What has my place of residence got to do with getting an affordable auto insurance rate? A lot! The crucial thing is to find out if it is compelling you to pay more or less. You may find this hard to believe unless you are versed in insurance matters. Nevertheless, there are things you can do to actually use your home to attract better premiums. You understand quite well that insurers ask for your home address and likely your office address depending on your profile. They do so for obvious reasons. Among other reasons is the fact that they have to check the level of risk connected with your area. Let us take, for example, that you reside in an area that has high rush hour traffic or regular high traffic (Or an area that has high car theft records). If that describes your community then and you have to drive through to work each and every day then you should be ready to pay a little more than people who reside in neighborhoods that never experience much traffic. This is where many pe...

Fed cuts rates by 25bps, but leaves door open for more rate cuts if needed.
2008-05-03 00:20:00 CURRENCY TRADING SUMMARYU.S. Dollar Trading (USD) was weaker on Wednesday after the Fed yet again cut rates by 0.25% to 2.00% for the seventh time since September last year. The votes counted 8-2 in favour of the cut, with only Fisher and Plosser preferring no change. The accompanying statement which was widely expected to suggest the Fed would ease its rate cutting for now, only hinted at the Fed?s future course of action by suggesting ?indicators of inflation expectations have risen in recent months.? The market took these sorts of comments as affirmation that the Fed is near a pause in rate cutting but is leaving the door open to further rate cuts should the economy need the relief. US GDP for Q1 grew by 0.6%, surpassing forecasts of a 0.2% growth, suggesting the economy is still grinding ahead despite the plaguing financial turmoil. In other data news, the ADP Employment report for April improved from 8k in March to 10k, far outstripping expectations of a fall to -60k. Chicago P...
Securing The First-Rate Deal On Car Loans
2008-05-02 19:53:00 By: johnnyacerjr Of course, the concept of looking for the car of your dreams is always fraught with disasters, enjoyment and also a bit of amusement. Yet as the excitement and amusement of buying a car can be great, trying to be sure that you have the money tidbits worked out in a method where you are never abandoned feeling like you have been mugged is not always quite so pleasable. There are some tasks that you could do though which may be extremely helpful to being sure that you have the best car buying situation in general. You will want to study your credit. This needs to be completed before you spend a lot of time looking at real cars because your credit rating as well as your take home pay, will help decide how expensive a vehicle you can afford, or how much car you can likely be qualified for. If there are errors on your credit report then this is the time to correct them prior to the lender whom to about your auto loan ever discovers them. As well it is an extremely sma...

Earth is losing dirt at an alarming rate
2008-05-02 17:08:00 Nutrient-rich topsoil is being eroded much faster than it can be replenished, experts say. While many worry about the potential consequences of atmospheric warming, a few experts are trying to call attention to another global crisis quietly taking place under our feet. Call it the thin brown line. Dirt. On average, the planet is covered with little more than three feet of topsoil -- the shallow skin of nutrient-rich matter that sustains most of our food and also appears to play a critical role in supporting life on Earth."We're losing more and more of it every day," said David Montgomery, a geologist at the University of Washington. "The estimate is that we are now losing about 1 percent of our topsoil every year to erosion, most of this caused by agriculture." "It's just crazy," fumed John Aeschliman, a fifth-generation farmer who grows wheat and other grains on the Palouse near the tiny town of Almota, just west of Pullman. "We're tearing up the soil and watching tons of it wash...

2008-05-01 00:58:00 The Federal Reserve and its Chairman Ben Bernanke announced through a statement on the Federal Reserve's website today that they will cut the key interest rate for America down to 2%. The Fed believes this is a way to combat the recession. As you may know, one of our top articles of this month was Hey Bernanke, Ron Paul's Been Prescribing The Salve For Years, in which we compared Ron Paul's prediction of a recession (as early as back in the year 2000) to Bernanke's moves in the opposite direction of Paul's solutions.

Vacancy Rate
2008-04-30 07:10:00 Yesterday I ran absorption rates for the seven county metro area. It would have been nice if I had mentioned that an adsorption rate of about six months indicates a balanced real estate market. Balanced means a market that does not favor the buyer of the seller. We had a sellers market for several years, in the last two years we have seen a buyers market. It is still a buyers market but it is coming closer to a more balanced market. An absorption rate of less than six months indicates a sellers market, an absorption rate of more than six months indicates a buyers market. Yesterday I checked to see how many registered vacant building there are in St. Paul and discovered that the number is still rising at an alarming rate. There are currently 1775 registered vacant buildings in St. Paul. Last time a checked, about a month ago there were 1695.
