The Real Stories

© Mrs. Flinger 2008. I’m postponing today’s scheduled post. You’ll understand after you read these: Catherine replies on behalf of all mommy bloggers to those who hate. Erin talks about journalism and mommy blogger perception an the power of Web 2.0 after being blocked by a “techie”. The always amazing Jenny makes me spit out hot coffee when reading her recap of Puerto Rico and promises (Vowes even) to have a drink with me the next time I get to Houston. (That last part isn’t in the post itself, unless you read really closely, like Divinci code, in between the lines where it says, “Leslie? You and I are going for Margaritas the next time you come to Houston”. Didn’t you see that?) On Blissfully Domestic I post about the diets I’ve been on. Anne gives us a glimpse in to her daughter Emma’s insight. And finally, as we all watch and listen, we find out the power of the media and how we have the impact...
Premium Pet Foods - Real Stories #2
2008-01-25 03:44:00
I have a cat, Indiana, who is half bobcat and is currently 6 yrs old. Living in a city environment, our cats remain indoors, to keep them safe. We were living in an old house at the time he was growing up, where the previous tenant had been an excessively heavy smoker. We’d cleaned every surface in the house, except for the rock front fireplace. BIG mistake. The nicotine from the cigarettes had settled on the hearth, and we hadn’t even thought about it. Indy- being adventurous as he grew older- decided licking the hearth was interesting. We didn’t think of the nicotine, but thought it was a nasty habit for him to do, so we discouraged it always. It didn’t matter. He got by our preventitive measures, and we couldn’t be home 24/7.Then, Indy started loosing weight; fleas were now becoming a problem where they never were before, and he was grooming excessively, almost obsessively. We wormed. We de-fleaed. We took him to the vet. None of the other cats seeme...
Premium Pet Foods - Real Stories #1
2007-08-27 15:53:00
Hearty Pet will be sharing stories from our customers about their decisions to buy premium pet foods and the results they have seen. The stories are truly inspiring. Enjoy the reading  To Whom it May Concern: In March of 2004 we learned that one of our cats, Miss Weezer, had diabetes. I read as much as I could about the disease in cats and came to the conclusion that, since cats are obligate carnivores, I would remove as many of the carbohydrates from her diet as possible. I started by cooking chicken, beef, fish for her and eventually found Wellness canned cat foods. At that time, it was difficult to find premium (or any other) cat food with out grains or rice. Wellness fit the bill and it is a large part of her diet to this day. She especially likes Turkey and Salmon. We were able (with our vet’s supervision) to gradually reduce insulin over the years and, as of July 12, 2007, she is insulin free. If you’ve ever had a diabetic animal, you know that this is huge&nd...
The Art of Intrusion: The Real Stories Behind the Exploits of Hackers, Intr
2007-04-28 12:45:00
From Publishers WeeklyIt would be difficult to find an author with more credibility than Mitnick to write about the art of hacking. In 1995, he was arrested for illegal computer snooping, convicted and held without bail for two years before being released in 2002. He clearly inspires unusual fear in the authorities and unusual dedication in the legions of computer security dabblers, legal and otherwise. Renowned for his use of "social engineering," the art of tricking people into revealing secure information such as passwords, Mitnick (The Art of Deception) introduces readers to a fascinating array of pseudonymous hackers. One group of friends bilks Las Vegas casinos out of more than a million dollars by mastering the patterns inherent in slot machines; another fellow, less fortunate, gets mixed up with a presumed al-Qaeda?style terrorist; and a prison convict leverages his computer skills to communicate with the outside world, unbeknownst to his keepers. Mitnick's handling of thes...
SubPrime Lending - Real stories from the front line…
2007-04-25 17:21:00
When I first started in this business about twenty years ago there was a definite amount of respectability across the board in the industry.  My position as a loan officer for a major savings and loan was viewed in large part as a professional endeavor.  Borrowers were respectful of lending guidelines and of my position relative to their having access to information and loan product in general.  Mortgage brokers were thankful for the service provided by lenders in the issuance of mortgage product for their clients.  All in all it was an industry where all parties involved respected each other’s roles and a general sense of continuity existed in the dynamic that was the real estate lending industry. Then subprime lending came along.  I have written extensively in this blog regarding the outright demise of a respectable business in the wake of subprime and every day I am reminded of the virus it brought - and not just to me, but to you, and your neighbor, and our housing ma...

SubPrime Crisis - Real Stories…
2007-04-24 02:59:00
OK.  Here we go.  I thought I would share some real world stories that taken on a grander scale send a chilling message.  On a daily basis my web-site - http://thefundingshop.com takes in numerous inquiries for mortgages of all kinds.  The ‘lead-pool’ as it were, is growing scarier and scarier by the day.  Over the last few days I’ve received the following inquiries… One - A gentleman who’d purchased his home about a year and half ago with 80/20 financing.  Purchase price was $690,000.  He indicated on his inquiry that the value was now $900,000 and his FICO score was between 600-649.  I contacted him over the phone and narrowed down some further details.  After the call I immediately pulled sales comps in his neighborhood and found that his value was not $900,000, but that it was more likely below $600,000.  He’d been basing his $900k estimate on the sale of a home that preceded his purchase (over a year and a half ago).  The home...

More Real Stories From WWIII/Iraqi Theatre
2006-08-06 18:48:16
Again, more information that you won’t hear on the evening news since their reporters are too scared to go out with our American heroes…. Iraqi Forces Divert Mission To Aid Kidnapped Citizen - CentCom BALAD – During a pre-dawn raid in Baghdad on July 26 to capture a ‘death squad’ member, Iraqi forces diverted their mission to free an Iraqi citizen who was abducted and being beaten by two unknown assailants.   As the Iraqi forces moved toward their original objective in the Abu Ghurayb area of Baghdad, they discovered an Iraqi citizen who was bound and being beaten by two men while he lay on the ground.  The Iraqi assault force surprised the kidnappers and an exchange of gunfire ensued.  During the gun fight, one of the kidnappers and the hostage were wounded while the second kidnapper fled the scene.  Both were treated on the scene by a U.S. Army Special Forces medic who was with the Iraqi forces in an advisory capacity. The hostage and the kidnapper were evacuated immed...
